I have just purchased the xda mini s yesterday from an o2 store. After spending a day with it. It seems like the screen has some blue dots on it. I can see those blue dots when I take a totally dark picture using the phone camera. But those blue dots are not permanently there. I have taken a few black images with the phone camera and I can see the same blue dots on the same location a few times. I just wonder those blue dots consider as dead pixels. Besides that just wonder anyone came across this problem. If yes, anyone have any idea whether how many dead pixels are consider as an acceptable level. Cause I am not too sure whether to ask the O2 store to exchange for a new phone.
OK, i had this and when i showed a friend at work (he's got a magician) he fixed it in about 1 min. go into the camera options and change the contrast (think thats what he did) - no more blue dots and no need to return the phone.
Hope it works for you
Gto my XDA mini yesterday and also have a dead pixel on mine. Mine is definetly a dead pixel as it appears as a single Green failed pixel on the screen whatever is open.
Rang O2 and they have posted me another phone out and a jiffy bag to post old one back.
maybe HTC are using cheaper panels nowadays as I don't recall hearing of this problem on older devices?
I have the same problem with the camera. I'll try the contrast thing. They're not dead pixels as the other poster said because they go away after closing the cam app.
However, i do have a real dead pixel too. It's just one so i don't really care. In fact, it may be a stuck pixel as it appears blue rather than white.
Can anyone recommend a 'dead' pixel fixer program?
funny thing that . it happend to my phone also . i took it home and seen there was a red pixel stuck on the screen tried everything to sort it . i just took the phone back to the o2 shop and they gave me a new one ... remember u got a 28 days exchange with the phone . if i was u i would be right back to the o2 shop with it ... i did . to tell u the truth . the o2xda mini s . crashes all the time and well its crap . i have went back to useing my sony ericsson p900 . with no crashes and no bother at all . now this xda2 mini s is sitting in the box not getting used . anyone want to buy it from me . used it for 2 days and could not handle the unreliable crap i got from the xda . is any of u guys phones the same crash when u look at it . xda still need to do some research with this phone . and in my eyes it should not be on the shelfs for sale if it keeps ****ing up
my 0.02 pence worth
thanks for all the reply. I will try and play around with the camera later tonight. If the dead pixels are still there, will go back to O2 shop to change it tomorrow. My xda seems to be doing fine. Hardly crash on me. But I have just used it for 2 days now. Did you install alot of software on it??
i have no software in my phone all i have is the crap that came with it . and i took all the o2 active stuff out of it. it did make it a little faster but . its still not as fast as my p900 not a chance ... why did i get this phone as its a bit of **** for all i can see . anyway its in the box and not getting out till i can see some updates for it . it should never of been released on to the market if there is still bugs in it . dont get me wrong maybe all your phones r sweet but mine is slow and i cant use something this slow and unreliable . as i need it for work . as i said i am back to useing my p900
this is whats up with my thing
1 phone wont open so i can dial a number
2when i open the keyboard up it takes ages for the screen to change directions
3 sometimes the when i open the camara there is no icons there just the camara screen with no icons
4 if u dont close running apps on the phone it slowes right down
5 the phone is pants for all i can see

If the pixel has failed it has failed full stop. Failed pixels are down to faults and imperfections in the panel itself so there is no software to resolve it.
So I opened my phone and as soon as I opened up a white screen, I noticed a nagging MISSING PIXEL! I know it's a bit paranoid but one would expect their product not to have any effects after dropping close $600 on it...
I called HTC and their warranty department says there are 2 options: 1) they can send a new phone, or 2) repair this one. Taking the first option, they would charge my credit card full price of the phone for the time being, then send out a new phone and I send mine back. Once they realize the defect, they will refund the money. If you send it in for repair, not only are you out of the Nexus One for 2 weeks, but they also charge a $28 service fee (nonrefundable), and in the end probably replace the phone anyway. I'll probably take option 1.
Anyone have missing pixels? (Try looking at some blank white screen to analyze)
nope not me
I am afraid to check. If I do and I find one, it will drive me crazy. I sent back 2 dell flat screens in a row because of a dead pixel on each of them.
I suppose I better find out now, and not when its too late to do something about it.
I wouldnt worry about getting dead pixels too much. the AMOLED displays in the N1 are Samsung -- high quality stuff
Which is fine, but checking is a good idea. You can get a pixel fixing app on the Market that helps you test for dead or weak pixels. If you find one, then tell them to send you a replacement.
Hi guys,
how many of you are you having troubles with dead pixels? I already returned my 7.7 two times (!) -two times a dead red (sub)pixel. The new one it arrived just now with a green dead pixel ;(
I don't know if i even dare to ask for a new one.
Could someone give me a reliable source? I'm sick of returning it over and over again.

Is it dead or stuck? If it is dead it will not light up. If it is stuck it stays on. If it is just stuck you can google video files that will attempt to unstick pixels.
me too, 1 red pix.

Mine has no dead pixel, but there is a tiny dust between its front panel and OLED.
It looks like a dead pixel
Since I got from HK reseller, it's too hard to send back and exchange it.
Besides, I doubt they allow exchange for this case.
mine has one in the left bottom corner. I only notice if after I install honeybar. (the menu bar hide it pretty well; in portrait or landscape)
i got a red dead pixel also.. worse thing is i cant return it because i bought it at hongkong and i'm already at the Philippines even though its still can be replace because today is only the 4th day...
Hey guys, about 3 weeks ago I bought a Galaxy S3 (after waiting for MONTHS to get one, by the way) at first I was delighted with the performance and looks, but after 3 days I noticed I had a stuck pixel (it was black, on a blue screen) using the *#0*# test
Okay, I got a bit sad and went to the store to get it replaced, and so I did, second one......noticed the same problem some time later
Tried AGAIN, went to the store, this time they let me open as many units as I wanted to , to find a perfect one, I went through SEVEN , ALL OF THEM with stuck pixels in some color (green, red, blue) after more than an hour looking I TOUGHT I found a flawless one.....went home with it to apply a screen protector, while I was doing that I found another stuck pixel, couldnt believe what I was seeing
Went to the store ONE MORE TIME to get ANOTHER replacement, the LAST one.....took it out of the box, and there it was, a black pixel on the green screen, just gave up and got my money back
What the hell is going on with samsung? I just wanted a flawless screen, afte all, its a state of the art device, should be flawless!!!
By the way Im from Brazil and the phones were all unbranded
Might be the imported batch .
Mine is flawless .
jje
Must be the batch, mine is flawless on the LCD test.
No stuck pixels here.
Perfect here too haha. Wait two weeks then go back and try again.

Tested a few and no stuck pixels on any colour background. Bad batch for sure.

Perfect screen here too. Honestly, I have yet to buy a device with dead pixels or similiar flaws, lol. Guess I'm lucky.
Mine is flawless as well - no dead pixels at all. So you waited months? It was released at 29th of May, so in the worst case you waited about 1,5 months.
To be perfectly honest, I don't believe your story...
When I said "waited for months" I meant: I was going to buy the S2, after finding out the S3 was gonna come out I decided to wait, and in my country it was only released at the day I bought it (about 3 weeks ago) so yes, I waited for about 6 months just dreaming about it
If you dont believe me I have one good solution for you:
The big X on the upper right of your screen, click it and witness the magic
For everyone else I hope it was just a bad batch really, for christ sake I loved the device but I cant stand anything but perfection on a US$1000 handheld (its how much it costs here on Brazil)

He probably waited since it's announcement and possibly even before. But that's pointless to calculate, since one might say I've waited for years to get it... Which btw is true since I knew that more or less the 3.generation would be around roughly at the time my S1's 2year contract was over.
but after 3 days I noticed I had a stuck pixel

I'm very sure you've not found a single Samsung Galaxy i9X00 phone with a stuck pixel and you probably never will. AMOLED screens have no moving parts so the pixels cannot get stuck as with LCD but either die (dead pixel) or react too slow (lazy pixel). Factory-defects such as pixels lighting at the wrong time or shorting with others are of course also possible.
I went through SEVEN , ALL OF THEM with stuck pixels in some color

Have you actually tried apps designed for stuck pixel / dead pixel repair? Often enough the pixel can be revived regardless of whether it's an (O)LED or LCD screen.
My dear friend im sorry for using the wrong expression.....im used to LCD screens and I would call it a stuck pixel because it cant reproduce one especific color (for example the pixel which presents itself black on a blue screen)
Yes, I tried the "unstucking" apps, left them running for hours and hours, like 12 hours at least, it didnt make any difference
Guess I'll just have to wait 2 months and try again, lets hope Im luckier this time, since its not looking to be a general problem...
That was (very faint) humor, so don't take it too personal :silly:
I think everyone understood what you meant, you just used the wrong term for the technology in question
Hmm, that definitively sounds like a bad batch. However I'm surprised, since Samsung's quality control might let one or 2 units slip but ALL of them having defects? I dunno, but that kinda sounds strange...
Maybe your seller got duped into buying units which Samsung's quality control filtered out. Only a hypothesis but well...
On an interested side note: How hard or easy are the dead pixels to spot? Maybe some of us got them but are unable to notice.
The brain is very good at interpolating missing parts of an image or color. Also how bright was it in the room?
I've recently seen a darker splotch on the screen on the red color but can't find it anymore. (Maybe it was just dirt after all...)
Probably a bad batch, I also bought in Brazil and it is perfect.

i had to take my gs3 back to the shop because of a fault with the phone but that was my own fault. but ye the man behind the counter said the gs3 has never had a problem no one has brought one back apart from me to the store so the phones that you went throught must have been fake or something because these are the beat phones out and you dont get any problems with them.

Lets just get one thing straight, a black pixel is considered as a dead pixel, other colours are considered as stuck or bright pixels, it's also normal for a screen to have upto 3-5 pixels problem according to the international standard, so you are luck the shop will allow you get a refund after all the unboxed you did, not that anyone will blame you if you get a dead or stuck pixels in the middle of the screen is quite annoying.
anyway here is my story with problems
1 st unit was a in store inspection, out of the box the power button was stuck.
2nd unit, instore inspection the phone had a few specks of dust in screen.
3rd unit seems fine, and thats the unit I took home until I made and received call, although calls made instore were fine, 99.8% of them, the calls will just cut off between 3 minutes and 7 minutes.
Next day
4th unit had more dust in the screen.
5th unit had a black dead pixel in blue screen.
6th unit with instore inspection seem ok, took this home and then I noticed there was a problem with the wifi.
Phone detects wifi but won't connect, just saves into the memory and sometimes it will connect.
Also my router has 3 ssid set, guest, 5ghz and 2.4ghz, most of the time it will just detect one of the 3 ssid while the other 2 will be detected about 5-7 minutes later.
I also have one of the air drive where i can stream music or video from a portable box, most of the time it won't even connect, but the phone detect the signal, if it connects, it won't stream.
If a wifi signal connects, just moving a meter or two away from the router will disconnect.
In all cases the wifi signal detected is very strong.
Next day
7th unit in store inspection found a dark grey stuck pixel in a dark grey background using pixel testers.
8th unit, the greyish silver side of the phone was made very bad.
Next day did not exchange phones
9th unit one tiny speck of dust right at the top of the right corner of the screen.
10th unit, there were two white spot on the bezel, one next to the ear piece and sensor and the other on the side near the volume, both on top next to the screen.
before I check the 9th and 10th phone I did say I will check 2 more unit and if unlucky I will return it to samsung and have the phone's wifi fixed instead, as I did have a good screen.
Well I took the 9th phone as the 1 speck of dust didn't stand out that much.
upto now the phone is working very well.
there you go, my short story.
It's interesting to see that there seem to be quality control issues with devices sold by Hong-Kong retailer and a brazilian retailer.
Both locations are known to have a lot of fake or "fell of the truck" electronic devices, so I stand by my earlier hypothesis that they might not be devices from a batch Samsung ever intended for sale.
(This does not mean the seller knew about it, any part of the delivery chain can be the cause)
Hello every one how y'all doing? Hope u having a great weekend so far.
I need your opinion/advice on something.
I discovered a reverse dead pixel on my S7 edge! What I mean by reverse is that it's only visible whilst displaying a complete black picture. Like for example a black picture in the gallery or aod. This pixels never turns black it's so to say lit! It's in the dead center of the screen and only visible if I'm in a very dark room and my eyes adjusted to the darkness. Maybe you would ask what's my problem seem's not that bad. But first it's kinda a defect which after spotting it get's on my nerves, and secondly VR I honestly haven't tested it out yet but I can imagine whilst using the Gear VR this dead Pixel would cause a Problem.
Do u think I should do something about it and take it to samsung? My concern is as follow, Knox is tripped and I don't trust those baffoons at those service centers. The last time one of my device had something was a iPhone 4 many years ago and I repaired it myself because like I said I don't trust service center people. But in this case getting a new screen is very expensive and I don't believe those r 100%new and genuine no matter where u buy a replacement screen. I think they r just professionally refurbished.
I've read many people having a bad experience with samsung service centers causing the device to have more issues after a repair which I believe. OK I admit most people make a thread after something went wrong rather them being happy and everything being fine.
I don't like the thought of some idiot opening up my Phone. Probably losing water resistance. Even if they agree repair my S7 edge with Knox tripped in case something going wrong (maybe even on purpose) them just saying Knox is tripped we don't care. This happend to someone else on xda! how crazy is that?
So what would u do? leave it or take it to samsung? and r my concerns valid or just a load of bull bull?
peace out
My S7e had gotten the screen replacement once by service center. They will test the water resistance before sending it back to you. This is in Thailand though.

It's a "stuck" pixel you have. There are dead pixels and there are stuck pixels. A stuck pixel can be fixed sometimes if you are a bit lucky. Just search the Play Store for "stuck pixel" and you should see some apps that can try and fix it for you.
I had a line of dead pixels on my phone. I just phoned them up. UPS were round the next day. They picked the phone up, and dropped it back to me in a week all fixed good as new.
I had a different problem though. Mine were more green I think. It wasn't like it all the time though. Sometimes theyd be normal, then it would be like a green line down my screen. It was worse with light backgrounds.
