Had been very pleased with this device in the the three months that I've had it. Until yesterday that is.
Basically the screen is jerking up and down on its own. When looking at the homescreen, the only way I can think to describe it is it's like 60% of the screen starting from the bottom is moving up and down by about 2mm on its own. I can see it eating pixels as it does so (it eats into home screen shortcuts). It also does this jerking motion when in an application or using a the keyboard.
I haven't dropped the phone, it hasn't got wet. It is completely stock unrooted and was bought SIM free in the UK in December and not tied to any network.
Things I've tried to fix it :
1.Numerous reboots.
2. Uninstalling the couple of apps that I'd installed around the time I noticed the problem.
3. Just done a full battery drain and now giving it a full charge keeping it switched off to see if does anything, (can't say I'm hopeful).
Next step is to back up / get my data off it and do a factory reset. Despite the bloatware, the stock ROM isn't too bad.
I was also thinking of just rooting it and running a cyanogen mod also.
Would be great if anyone has any ideas what I can try or if they've seen this issue before and remedied it. I can't find anything in Google and I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a random bad luck hardware problem -- which is worse than it might be on account of living in Southeast Asia -- but the device was purchased in the UK in December. Anybody know if there is such a thing as international warranty for LG phones ?
Thank you in advance.
I wouldn't root it send it to lg it sound like a serious hardware problem the g2 seems to be plagued with problems

Yeah I won't bother rooting it. A factory reset has made no difference and it's actually worse now and totally unusable, the screen just pogo's / jitters up and down an inch at time constantly.
The phone was bought on 22th of December, I'm pretty annoyed at getting little more than three months out of it. It would be understandable perhaps if I dropped it, or it go wet, none of these happened and the hardware has just failed for no reason.
For sure the LG repair centre where I livein Bangkok won't want to know as it was bought in the UK. And no doubt I'll get slammed for import duty both ways together with eating the postage sending back to the UK. I think I'll feel better taking a lump hammer to it and make a youtube stating what I think of £400 phones that last 2 months and carry no international warranty.
Have you dropped your phone?
Yep it is sad I hope my g2 doesn't go through the same thing i will definitely get a backup device sooner than later but like I said earlier the g2 seems to be plagued with problems which means the nexus 5 prob has the same problems maybe maybe not I'm a little nervous now because in the us most of us buy our phones locked with contract in the UK everybody buys there devices unlocked without contract from what I've heard if your looking for a new device I would wait for the xperia z2 looks very nice

Hello, same problem with me too, mine screen starts to jittering (like there is an earthquake inside my phone) after the latest update for kitkat, the updates says for optimising apps and such.
But recently i realize if i block my mobile data, and only using wifi for the data transfer, my phone stabilize much much better than when i used GSM/3G to do internet activity. When i used 3G my phone jittering like crazy, sometimes bottom half of my screen is gray pixels and bottom up of my screen dancing like crazy almost 70-80 % of the time. But when i block my mobile data and using only wifi, 80-90% of the time is OK, still a bit jitterish, but waaay much better.
There is also member of this forum experienced this and suggest to full cycle charger for couple of times. He say his phone stabilize after do full cycle charger (depleted ur battery until conpletely empty, than charge to 100% while turning off the phone). Im trying it tonight.
I also consult with some cellphone tech support (in shopping mall). They say maybe when i did my update, there are some data corruptions, so my phone did not update properly (corrupted). Because when you factory reset your phone, people said that it retain the latest update of software. So if you already did a corrupted update, it will stay even if you factory wipe the phone.
Seizure ?

It's a hardware issue, it's been discussed on this forum dozens of times. If nothing helps (including updating to the latest available version), send it in for repairs.

Nope, still my screen jittering...
Does anybody know how much LG would charge to fix this.

Im taking it in on LG Service Center this morning, the tech guy said its Hardware problem, about some sockets loose or something like that, He fix it and because im still have the warranty, so its free, no idea how much if the warranty is expired. And i still retain the KitKat OS (4.4.2). but my data is wiped out.
So far no jitters... I let you guys know if the jitters comeback.
phone automatic jerking
hello my s9380 phone have too much heating problem…during heat my phone is again and again restarting..also my phone is automatic touches screen and automatic jerking….can anyone help me how to solve my phone problem…my phone is rooted phone….
i have this flickering problem 1 week now i try to find a way to remove the rooted status on download mode so i can send it to warranty... anyone can help? flashed kdz with flash tool but rooted still stays red.. i tried to do factory reset using power+volum down but i cant do it...
Op...sounds like you have a faulty digitizer have you sent it in yet?
After 15 months own this phone, now this problem came to me too so unlucky because this happened after my warranty end...
Such a beautiful monster with so many hardware (screen or lcd) defects
I got same issue recently for many days, typically starts after turning screen on. Finally got it fixed by discharging fully and charging back again. No issue now. And I try not to charge phone too often only when battery is close to zero. Try charge and recharge a few times if it doesn't work. Works for me ?
Passing this on so others can benefit.
Hello,
i am thinking about buying a Xiaomi mi a1 but currently i heard a lot of bad things:
- Excess battery drain
- GPS issues
- Sound and calling issues
- Crashing Apps
- Fingerprint bugs
- Mobile data freezing issue
- Ambient display iusses
And a few more.
What is the current situation ? Can you guys still recommend this phone ?
Or maybe do you know a better alternative device ?

I agree with battery drain issue, but everything except battery works perfectly for me, gps ok, sound and calling good, no crashing, fingerprint fast as lightning, mobile data never freezes for me and ambient display works fine. Im using stock april ROM.
Edit: talking about battery, I just dont know, I have a feeling that sometimes it drains and sometimes Its just okay, im a medium user, actually if I use my phone only for calling and some chatting - I have 40% left with 5,5 hours of SOT.
Posting my battery stats.
I get around 7hs of screen on time from a single charge. Not everyday I spend such much time with phone but on weekends I get around 7 or 7.5 hours.
The phone works well.. .it's not a top of the line phone, it's not a flagship (I came from a Galaxy S7, it burned itself). The camera app has to be changed to GCam if you want decent pictures.
So far, after the this month update, the one that provided April Security Patch Level, the only issue I'm facing is the Fingerprint bugs... half of the times that I want to unlock my phone it doesn't read correctly my finger and I end up using PIN to unlock it.
This wasn't an issue until this update, the fingerprint sensor and unlock was 100% accurate, never a miss... but Xiaomi fuc**d up with this month update.
Regards,
100% stock with April update.
No Battery issue, no fingerprint issue, in fact.... no issues at all, amazing phone.

I agree, but the battery could be a bit better, but it is 3000 mAh battery, not the 4000 like Redmi 4x and others.

I only had issues with idle drain which is now solved with April update for me at least. If I clear all apps from recents before sleep then I get 0% drain at night otherwise 1%. And fingerprint bugs? What does that even mean?

I have no idea where You got that list from as I don't recognize any of the issues at all!
I'v been using this phone since mid Nov -17 and travelling across Europe and Northern Africa several times without any hassle what so ever.
Of course there are "better" phones but as such, absolutely nothing to complain about.
There will always be people crying, whining, yelling and demanding for fixes, features and "issues" but quite many of those people "forget" to mention what they did before the "issues" started...
Unlocking, rooting, forcing updates and so on.
I don't get panic is a patch/update/fix is delayed a week or two or if I don't have the latest OS at same time as Nokia or Pixel phones...
This is my first "China phone" (6-7 earlier of various brands) I decided to let be original as long as ever possible and it just works.
Mobile data keeps falling away to the wrong frequencies. No real fix for it yet...
https://c.mi.com/thread-413908-1-1.html
I have no issues from the above list.
battery drain is very normal and and better than expected with my heavy use and it lasts from the time i disconnect from the charger in the morning until i get back to the charger late at night. camera is way better than expected (specially after enabling HRD+ using google camera) finger print never failed me and did not notice any mobile data drops that annoys me. sound is very clear during calls and the speaker is loud.
There's a larger amount of overnight battery drain than with my other phone (Essential PH-1) but the SOT is more than respectable and the fingerprint sensor is a lot more responsive than the one on my PH-1. The camera is only average which actually seems to be by design. Xiaomi phones normally take very good pictures but Google didn't enable the camera 2 api on this phone. Maybe Google doesn't want an Android One device to become competition for Google branded phones. I'm in the USA (which is not an official market for this phone) and pretty much the only issue I have encountered is that the MI A1 works way better on T-Mobile than AT&T. This is a really solid device for the price but at $200 it isn't intended as competition for flagship phones. But it is both fast and smooth and has pretty impressive build quality so I have no complaints.
Hello,
I dont really found centralized information about Oreo and feedbacks regarding battery life.
So please, people from Korea and North America, can you provide some feedback about Oreo update, especially about the battery life ?
I heard some negative opinion from this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5hH0TQY6Jg
Before he was at 5-6h SoT, after update 3-4h
Thanks !
It was entirely predictable and expected that there would be no improvement in battery life or performance with Oreo despite all the anticipation.
I have literally NEVER seen a major operating system upgrade actually speed up performance of identical apps on the same device. Sometimes there might be a non-significant decline, but never an improvement.
Each Android upgrade promises some new trick to improve battery life like wakelocks etc, but it's only theoretical and perhaps applies only to brand new hardware.
Otherwise the progressive process of bloating in updated apps and system software use more power and more resources which more than compensate for the supposed improvements in efficiency
I think the few reports that have mentioned improvement are just the random variation that people get, even with Nougat, or even day to day on the same device.
Sometimes I get 1% standby drain per hour and sometimes 3% with no change in use or settings. I have found no consistent way to control this, including trying all of the tips mentioned (except for wiping my phone and starting from scratch).
So far the video reviews that I have seen of Oreo on the G6 are pointedly unexciting and confirm my predictions. As far as I am concerned the only reason to update is for the security patches. I am hesitant to update given that going backwards is difficult on a unrooted device.

maybe some little improvements are made, sure, nothing big to say its a major update, NO!
is almost only a Android version bump and a security patch. PERIOD...
The features this new version introduced is low and people who update the phone dont will see a big change, i already see some videos of update in youtube and didnt see too much difference.
Of course is a good thing LG doing it but isnt night and day,is more like some hours of difference.
Lets see with time to time the Doze mode and power savings features step in and see some change in battery life, i trust LG make something to improve it, again nothing special but for me that already make a difference.

2 remarks :
From my experience, I never saw an android update improve battery life too. But that was a long time ago, with "cheap" phones (expect nexus 4, so disappointed). But recently, a friend bought a Nokia 8, and after the Oreo update, the battery has become so amazing, I was really really suprised and so jealous! So now I still have a little hope ...
However concerning standby drain, for me it's pretty ok. In airplane mode lost 0 or 1% for all night, and with data or wifi, it stays "normal".
You guys have something else going on.like the first post said it depends on day to day and other factors like many apps running in back ground. My phone and battery have 0 issues.on full charge it stays at 100 for about 10min on heavy internet use and then drops about 2percent per hour.I only charge my phone every 3 days.I also found phone much faster after oreo and less studder.I suppose because part of the update is to have less apps running in background.I wouldnt really listen to some users because the change log for oreo is huge.Soooooo many changes under the hood.people should read the change log before giving false facts(and they are false)Always gonna have some dude complaing about something

Did you make some improvements like disabling logs and reducing resolution ? Any reset after oreo ?
I disabled event logs yes.kept screen on large size and no resolution change.Yes I did a factory reset immediately after.I think alot of people are having issues with battery because they dont calibrate it first when new out of the box.As a rule of thumb no matter what electronics i buy i always charge to 100 percent and literally let it drain to 0 percent then full chage again.Do this step twice in a row and i can pretty much guarantee you wont have issues with battery that are out of the ordinary.LOVE MY G6

There are people that mainly use the phone under a wifi connection, and others that use it under a mobile network, this is just an example to give you an idea of why there is much difference between users
Y kllua but people are complaining regardless of wifi or mobile network. My package includes 6gb of network per month every month i spend 4gb etc...
And lots of people i see have bluetooth, nfc ( if they even thats in or what it even is. ) and then comes some1 like you and says ooo wifi on. What im gonna use at home ? Data ? To consump battery and empty my month data, and what im gonna use on streets, work, free time outside house etc. Mobile fking data. You think wifi is all around us

Well, my G6's battery sucks because at work the phone switches every couple of minutes to all the networks, and so I'm not able to reach home after 9-10 hours with 1-2 of SOT without charging a 20-30% during lunch, besides in weekends where I'm almost everyday under a wifi connection I easily reach 4-5 hours of SOT with gaming in a full day usage.
Also yes, there are many other parameters, like BT, NFC, GPS, Apps ecc...
So finally got Oreo thanks to LG Brigde.
The battery stock app seems really... broken ? Please see screenshots.
The message says : "2 days ago , 1h27min left the conversation."
PS : I made a factory reset after the oreo update.
Mine has actually improved! I'm getting like 30 minutes more (the improvement came after I drained the battery almost completely and charged it back like 3 times and after a factory reset). Not much but I can't complain. I'm actually happy for the improvements in fast charge speed, it's even faster now.
Third day with Oreo now.
Battery life is great, at least as good as before. I have 3.5h of screen on time right now and I'm at 43% battery at the end of a full work day with traveling etc.
And that's with Nova Launcher, Gesture Control [root], Always on Display and Pixel live wallpaper enabled.
Very happy with the G6 at the moment. Of course battery life always depends on your personal use and different phones provide better battery life for different people... G6 seems to work well for me and definitely better than the Huawei P9 I had before.
For people with battery life issues I suggest this: Battery life guide (I keep resolution at max because it messes with AOD and camera)
and also if you don't use google voice assistant try disabling the google app and use the chrome search widget instead. And keep location services on battery saving mode if you don't need GPS all the time.

can i ask where you got the browser? ive been trying to find it in play store with no success, thanks
Last week I have purchased a brand new S5e, and overall I am pretty happy with it, outside of one big problem: the damned thing loses like 30-40% of full battery charge per day while sitting in my desk drawer, doing absolutely nothing. This is, frankly, unacceptable. My two-year old Galaxy Tab A loses 2% per day when idle, so I would kinda expect similar idle drain from the new device as well, given they have similar-sized battery (7040 mAh in S5e vs 7300 in Tab A).
I have tried:
Uninstalling unused bloatware via ADB pm uninstall
Turning off data and wifi
Turning location off
Restarting the thing
"Sleeping" of all the apps via Samsung's battery save features
Factory resetting the tablet and repeating the above with no extra apps installed
Tried the "Extreme battery saving" feature, but frankly, that leaves the tablet in absolutely unusable state because it limits you to like 5 built-in apps and portrait mode. Who the f uses their 10" tablet in portrait mode?!
Currently trying Airplane mode, will see how that goes, but I'm not keeping my hopes up at this point. -- Update: Airplane mode seems to have satiated its hunger for battery, but that's not really an option to keep on at all times. Any other ideas?
I'm frankly running out of options here. I bought this for xmas and it's, tbh, unusable in this state. It does have the latest software update from Samsung (October 1st, 2019).
I've tried running BBS to shed more light on what's going on, and while it's showing the device is spending nearly 50% of the idle time in "Awake (screen off)" state (compared to 2-4% on my tablet and phone), but neither Kernel nor Partial wakelocks show anything egregious. And normal battery stats are about as useless as you'd expect, too.
Currently considering taking it back and asking for a return or RMA, but figured I'd ask here first, maybe one of y'all has encountered the issue and by chance knows what's the problem and how to fix it.
You need to take an idle log with BBS and post in the BBS thread asking for some analysis.

Remind me, how do I do that?
Naptime by Francisco Franco will turn off Wifi / Data / GPS when the screen is off, and turn it back on when the screen is turn back on. Works best on Rooted devices though.
I'm using Lineage 16 on my Tab S5e, I generally get somewhere between 7-8 hours of SOT, and go 5-7 days between charges. I use Naptime on all my tablets have for a long time. Found it doesn't work as well on cell phones. I haven't paid attention to what my idle drain is, but overall my battery performance has been excellent with Lineage.

I have figured it out.
Turns out, the tablet has some issues with the provider's sim card and plan. I got internet-only plan and it does not allow for neither outgoing nor incoming phone calls. And my other tablet has a normal calls+data plan. When I swapped cards between the two tablets the drain issues also swapped! Except the older one wasn't draining nearly as fast, but still noticeably enough. While new one only lost 1% overnight.
So looks like I will be staying with my old plan, maybe upgrade it a bit. Oh well, no big loss, but mystery solved.
Hi all,
I got my S20 a couple days back and never since that day have I not seen my phone heat up every now and then.
Heavy multi-tasking ; this thing starts to warm up which is normal but what is not normal is how excessively hot this device get when using the camera for a little over 5 minutes , whether it is recording videos or clicking pictures, this device becomes unreasonably hot.
Playing a little bit of game on highest settings for a couple of minutes shouldn't be causing as much heat as the S20 ends up generating.
I am skeptical for the logetivity of this device if this heating up keeps up on such trivial tasks.
Not sure, but has anyone before ever experience this kind of problem and has seen the OEM actually fix it with mere software updates?:fingers-crossed:
Let's discuss the status of each of our devices and figure if only a bunch of us have the devices which are behaving like this or is it happening with all of our phones?
SD S20 owners can also pitch in for comparison.:good:
Thank you.
Yes I'm also experiencing same thing. Even watching a 3-4 minute video on YouTube makes the phone feel warm. Camera heats up the phone very quickly.
Hope Samsung solves the issue.
Same problem on camera it heats up rilly fast, not seeing that in you tube though..
Same here...or even worse. 5 mins on facebook/twitter and then the device becomes obviously warm.
Same thing happens when doing wireless charging. It still gets warm quite quickly even when fast wireless charging is disabled.
Exynos S20 exynos 990
Same problem. So I went to Samsung Service center and told them the problem regarding this overheating issue. What they are telling me is that 41.8 degrees(what they have read from my device using a thermal scanner) is normal (I don't think so as 42 degrees for trivial task is absurd) also they inform me that they will reinstall the operating system once again and check whether the problem still persists, if yes replacement will be done by giving us one certificate that we can take it to the shop where we have bought the phone and get a new s20 (what a lengthy process).

New Software updates
Since I wrote this post, there have been two updates pushed by samsung.
None of them made any dent to the slew of problems that this phone has been having.
I tested antutu score, I know they are not the real test for day to day usage but these scores have actually dropped since latest update.
The camera albeit is better at focusing , I can testify to that as I made two videos before and after the updates and I can see some difference but the heating is still going on like crazy.
Now I think, Samsung should have added a heat vapor chamber in the phone to manage this hot garbage.
Very disappointed to have payed so much and not even get the performance as good as the last year's SD devices.
Facing the same issue. I just want to know how can I get is replaced.
Samething on Exynos. When it hits 40c, it automatically switches to 60hz and get back when it cools down. Exynos was never good.
But one thing I can say for sure if you are worry about longevity. Never user your phone while it is charging. One thing is using your phone hot while discharging. Another thing is using it while charging and it will definitely impact battery life long term speaking.
I would disable fast charging too.
Same here! And if you have like 30-35% battery and your phone begins to heat up, say goodbye to 120hz, I think it throttles so hard that the performance can't go beyond 60.
It is really very very disappointing .It gets up so hot just using the device continues for 30 min. Once the temp cross 40+ it switches to 60hz. hahahah for this we have to pay a premium price.
Have already started to have 2nd thoughts for next galaxy devices with exynos. really really very annoying to use this phone these day in hot summers.
I hope to get it fixed soon. if not probably iam goning to quit this phone. very disappointed.
Display turns into yellow
Same problem here with ultra exynos after watching serval videos and using camera for 10 to 15 mins. At low brightness display turns yellowish because of heat and screen turns into 60 hz automatically. Has anyone noticed this yellowish problem?

Yeah, noticed that too. I tried turning off the 120hz and it fixed the issue.

That's strange. I have noticed 2 times yellowish display like a filter and after increasing the brightness it was OK but after reducing again it went to yellowish. Thank you for the info..

Same. But it wasn't happening before so it might be a software bug.

Same issue
Same problem here guys, I am very frustrated.
First of all why make two variants, one with snapdragon an other with exynos?
Why this discrimination?
Secondly why should I pay for a flagship and get a less than flagship experience?
I hope it is partly software fixable.
I am so gonna be very unpleasant and persistent at support. Greece here and bought s20 two days ago

It goes back to the early 90's when Samsung made a trade deal with Qualcomm. As a result of the trade deal, Samsung were allowed to use Qualcomms products but only in the markets where Samsung's products didn't compete directly with Qualcomms i.e the USA.
Nobody held a gun to your head when you bought the device. You could've just done a simple Google search and found a way to import the SD variant. Samsung aren't discriminating - it's called business.
If you dont like the Exynos variant, the OnePlus 8 is being announced on the 14th - that'll surely have the SD865.
It sucks, the only software solution I can see is throttling TBH.
Honestly thinking about cutting my losses on my S20+

Least expected from a flagship
I have a S20 and it heats up to that level that with a cover also it gets uncomfortable to hold. And this observation is with not any heavy use, very routine use like checking Gmail, watching Youtube, browsing Instagram.
I sold my one plus 5t and got this phone, very disappointed, should have waited and bought a one plus only. Samsung, if you are hearing me please fix this - if it's a hardware issue, please recall and provide a replacement, if it's a software issue please fix. But stop asking customers to go to service centres as it is not a specific problem to any phone. Most if not all exynos customers are facing it.
We been really ****ed over by samdong with latest updates the charging has gone from 1 hr to charge from 0 to 100 too 80 mins and only reason i can think of is because of the overheating that exynos is suffering so we pay nearly 1400 notes for this piece of **** and its getting worse on every update **** you samdong
