Both wifi (2.4 and 5 GHz) and lte radios suffer pauses of service lasting 10-20 seconds. This happens when either or both are turned on. When both are turned on concurrently they both lose connectivity at the same time.
They won't drop videochats but it's very apparent during whatsapp texting. As if someone turns off the radios after 60 seconds of connectivity.

Here is some strangeness that I'd like to investigate.
When I'm on a voice call, data usage is strangely inhibited even when on Wifi. The market will report network errors, and when it does download an app, it will never install the app while on the call. Other apps that use data are either non-responsive or extremely slow. For example, the Engadget app will display text, but not images. As soon as the call is ended, all returns to normal. Again, this is not over 3g/4g, but Wifi enabled and active.
As an additional datapoint, over the same Wifi network, my laptop gets 12.63Mb/s down and 1.36Mb/s up while my Atrix gets 2.4Mb/s down and 1.4 Mb/s up.
Is anyone else having reduced and/or null data traffic while on voice, even on Wifi?
speedtest seems fine for me on WiFi. Not quite the max bandwidth.... my connection is 15Mbit down and it comes in around 9... but not bad either way. Upload bandwidth seems right about where it should be on WiFi.
As for the data use while on call.... i dunno. Never used it when i used my iPhone that i can remember.... and haven't had my Atrix long enough to even think of doing so, so i wouldn't know about that one.
Well I haven't tested data use while on a call, but as for the wifi data speeds...I've never once used a phone that received as fast a wifi signal as this one. My home modem usually connects at around 15.5Mbps. My phone speedtests on WiFi at 13-15Mbps. That's *amazing* for a phone.
I was just wondering whether you guys have experienced this or not.
When I connect to Wifi networks (generally only when I am in a basement or area with poor 3G/LTE connection), I always disable mobile data as well. Coming from the Note 2, this would also disable the 3G CDMA/LTE radio and just leave the 1X connection because it needs no more than that for calls and messages. Now it keeps the 3G/LTE radios on searching or trying to hold a very poor signal, completely killing my battery (8-10% an hour).
Are there any ways to turn off the data radio? I already tried Phone Info (used on Note 2 to force 3G) but I don't think it can force 1x only.
Hello.
So my T-Mobile Note 3 is acting up. The problem is, when WiFi is connected, the cell signal indicator drops to zero, or almost zero. It is more noticeable when I am at home. Not as much as the office. And the impact is, that calls do not come through, and when they do, they sound like a horrible T-Pain autotune song. To make a call, I typically have to disable WiFi, wait for about a minute for better signal. Signal always gets better when WiFi is disabled.
I am on a stock T-Mobile ROM, rooted. WiFi calling enabled but not active.
Any suggestions?
I have a lag that takes 3~5 seconds for data to connect.
I am using PTEL, which rides on T-Mobile network.
The symptom is that, when I am Tmobile 3G/HSPA and trying to connect to internet from cold, I have to wait 3~5 seconds.
When the phone is idle, the icon stays "H". When I am trying to pull data, it takes a moment to change to "H+" and starts to pull data.
For example, when I open an article, I have to wait 3 seconds to connect to H+.
After finish reading it and try to load another article, I have to wait again to connect to H+.
My friend has Verizon LTE and when I use her phone, I am amazed how quickly I can browse through just like when I am on my computer with strong WIFI.
This is annoying and makes the battery drain.
On wifi, Nexus 4 can idle for hours and only lose 1% per hour.
But when it is on 3g, even when it is idling, it loses 10% per hour.
I think this 3g/HSPA lag causes the phone to be awake longer then needed to sync data.
I notice this because, sometimes the phone hangs forever waiting for data pull.
In that case I had to exit out of an app and go to chrome and try to access any website.
That helps other apps connecting to internet.
It seems that when I search about this connection lag, most of them have T-mobile.
I am wondering if anyone had similar issue and found a solution for this?
Is this also happening for folks who have Tmo LTE?
By the way, I am using Nexus5Experience rom and have left network configuration default.
I have apn that PTEL recommends which is "wholesale".
I tried "fast.t-mobile.com" and "epc.tmobile.com" and both have worst result than "wholesale" apn.
Thanks,
Lately using Android 10 I have been having DATA signal problems. It just turns off...waits a few seconds and restarts. Speeds are VERY slow even when i see a 46+ icon. 4mb/s max.
Google voice calls simply do not work most of the time.
I am on Verizon with VOLTE enabled.
Any ideas?
