New camera update 29/03/19. What's new? - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

I've seen the following changes
1) transition animation between switching camera mode has changed
2) selfie flash looks a bit changed
Any other changes?

Weird,
My last update was November 10.
I checked again and nothing

You can get the apk from apkmirror
(https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/camera/camera-6-2-024-239729896-release/)

Also the camera setting interface becomes dark in battery saver mode. I wonder why it's not like that for normal purpose.

If you have developer options, setting dark to always on will work too.

Hi thanks, yeah it worked. I had it on before but i guess a reboot turns it off on it's own.

That's sad. Did they remove the color calibration too? I want to correct the yellow tint but I don't feel like rooting right now.

If you want accurate color...use sRGB. I've taken photos on my phone, edited them on my phone, then printed them out, It's almost dead on accurate in the actual print. Doesn't get much better than that. I was against sRGB mode at first, but now I can't use it any other way, knowing that's how pictures will look if I decide to print anything.

Not actually, I have problems on both sRGB and the regular setting. My problem is with the yellowish screen and white reproduction.

There is nothing or no noticable changes in Android 7.1.1 update.
Just a change in icons and a feature like 3d touch.

Yea, it's like 3d touch!
Yes, dynamic app-shortcuts are beautiful. Take a look at this screenshot from android 7.1.1 with pixel launcher and you can see. Best update ever. Thanks motorola. Feels good!
Would someone be so kind and run one of the GPSTest or GPS Test apps to see if they added Galileo support?
Thanks!
I have found one more new feature. Now there is a reboot button on the power-button menu. That's pretty kewl. Don't have found bugs until now. Works very good. If I found a bug I will tell you.

Not only brightness, but gamma as well. But that's pixel exclusive. Google had the code hidden on 7.0, which few apps from play store been able to expose as well. Those apps used to work on my previous Nexus phones, but never worked on MZP. Now we have 7.1 and unfortunately Google has erased the code completely... Now we can't reveal it through any 3rd party apps anymore...but few OEMs have their own solution like One Plus, Moto Z2 Play
Is the android 7.1.1 really so much bigger? On android 7.0 I had 1.5GB free on system-partition. 800MB bigger? Why? Or is the update.zip in there and must be removed? Would like to understand that. Thanks!
A friend of mine have this home button like pixel.

But is it normal that the system partition is so much bigger? I mean, there is more in the partition as before. 800MB more. For what? Or I'm wrong and I remember wrong values from before? :silly: Or is it for the update.zip? But would it be so, then android would remove it after update, or? Can you check how it is on your phone, please Hope that I'm not switch off the usb plug to early

Auto flash does not work properly on the XL

As you can see by both images, 1 was auto flash and one was flash on, they both fired the flash even the auto one but for some reason it's weak and looks crap, I do not recommend using auto flash on this phone, it seems in auto mode it fires at the wrong time!
I avoid using the flash on a phone if at all possible, they never work well.

I've never had a problem on any phone when using auto flash, only when I've used some third party camera apps it's not fired correctly but not with the stock app, i even got an update for the camera a couple of days ago and that hasn't fixed it either.
I've just sent feedback to Google, does anyone know how to attach images for Google to look at with feedback reports?

Looks to me like the blue, relativley bright lights behind the toy threw the camera off. The ones that look like lit computer ventilation fans. Try a bunch of different situations and see how it does. You've picked a tough shooting situation. I actually try not to use the flash myself for indoors since phones seem to do pretty well in dim light now. But now that taking pictures is basically free (no film to develop) I take it both ways when I can.

I thought that it threw it off but the flash fired so it should have been as bright as the flash on image, i did try other scenarios and it's the same, it seems the flash is out of sync in auto mode.
Regardless of when the flash went off, to me, the slightly darker image when it was in auto looks more natural.

To be fair any image with more noise certainly does not look natural

I think he's saying it's more natural in terms of color reproduction. Noise is noise but the color does look better probably cause it actually didn't get the flash at all. If I do use flash (just way too dark of a situation) I do flash on anyway.

That's just the point i was saying, I've never had to flash on by force manually on any phone I've owned and I've had quite a few, it just seems odd it's flashing but incorrectly, just adds more fuel to the fire of Google making so many mistakes this year if I'm being honest, i love Google phones but it seems this year they have made some rookie mistakes.
Just tested auto versus on and the pics look the same.

Weird I've just tried a couple of different locations and now it seems right, as someone said it could have distracted by my pc fan lights but then it did flash still but weirdly.

Any way to adjust the colour temp of the screen?

I was hoping this was a feature they would add in Oreo, but alas, they just added an extremely overly aggressive night mode that doesn't really let you adjust it enough.
My only real gripe with the phone is how insanely cool the screen is. It almost pains me to go from looking at something like the Pixel in SRGB mode, the S8, or even my LG V20 to then looking at the Essential screen.
I am currently using Screen Balance, which is ok, but it causes issues with some things because it's just an overlay(this is especially bad when casting if you forget to turn it off). Is there a way to manually adjust the temperature of the LCD?
Los 15.1 has it built in. Using latest build and adjusted blue down to 88. Working great.

Does it support the notch? Last time I used custom roms(about a month ago) none of them supported the notch and so stuff got cut off
Expanded desktop works search bar is in camera otherwise have had no issues.

Nice haha. Also Samsung browser dark mode? Only thing i have is the mclaren wallpaper rest pure black with substratum. Also status bar is immersive via system ui tuner in the internet Browser (had burn in the Icons on m s9+ after 1,5 years xD)
My phone is always on dark mode too and I've never seen it, actually never paid attention to it.
