I have noticed that for the last week my Tytn won't always charge itself up either when its in its cradle or is being charged via the charging lead.
I have no idea what has brought this on. The solution I am using at the moment is to soft boot, which seems to solve the problem for a while. For the techies on here I am using the standard HTC Win5 Rom, straight out the box.
Has anyone come across this problem and, if yes, knows what the solution is please? It was only because my low battery alarm kicked in the other day that I realised there was a problem.
As I use the kit for work I cannot afford to have it not charge up.

Caveat - Yes, did search first on here and elsewhere before posting.
Could be hardware (at Device) / could be software. Without testing these things out it's impossible to say. I suppose a quick test of the physical contacts of the device would be to switch on and connect the charger and by gently moving the connection, see if the amber charging LED goes on off.
In the end I always think with this kind of problem a hard reset saves a lot of time testing this and that. If there is nothing you can pin down as an obvious change/installation you made before this started, then I'd do a hard reset.
Of course you are fully prepared for this with full backups taken at key installation stages?? - Hope so.

The only thing I've heard of is that using USB cables/cradles, car chargers and non-standard wall chargers (such as for motorola) are ok for trickle charging but if the battery goes low you need to use the original wall charger supplied with the phone.
I know this was the problem on my Wizard - wouldn't charge a low battery with a motorola charger but fine with the original.

I think I will do a hard reset as a last, last, resort only if all other options are well and truly exhausted. I rebuilt the damned thing for the umpteenth time only 2 weeks ago and I absolutely don't want to go through that pain again.
The frustrating thing is that for the first time since I owned the Tytn (6 months) all the problems I did not know about before I bought it had finally been resolved (excepting the freezing of TomTom, which still remains outstanding).
So just when I thought I could finally start to rely on the Tytn as a fully functioning relible working tool we get this.
I owned a Sony P900 for over 3 and a half years as a business tool (grant you the PDA functionality was a tad restricted compared to the Tytn) and it never failed me once! If it wasn't for a problem with the touch screen and me thinking it was time for a change I would still be using it today.
Anyone else any other suggestions on this problem please? Wiggling the charging cable in the mini-usb port makes no difference. Only a reboot does at this time.

I have a similar problem. I had a go for the WM6 from LVSW (2007-05-19) and the latest Radio (1.41.00.10) and a brand new out of the box TyTN.. First thing I noticed was that the unit discharges itself very quickly. I've tried various radios without any good luck too. I think it killed my battery, at least it went so low that I could'nt recharge it normally. I had the RED LED blinking fast, constant RED and sometimes AMBER. My tip is to never let the battery fully discharge here.. I had to kickstart it with 3 AA-batteries in serial, and hooked up + and - wires to the TyTNs battery so it could have a little power, or else the TyTN would not charge it anymore. I assumed it could be my old SIM and/or the battery, so I went to th store and got a new battery as replacement for testing this. I am now able to charge, but I the power consumption is far beyond what I expect, it is like 341 ma read with ABC Power Meter....! Even with radio off, wifi off, receive incoming beams off, BT off, screen to minimum brightness, nada... I was expecting a lot less... This hungry device will not last many hours, and the battery does even produce much heat during standby operation, which is not good besides from a hand-warmer in the pocket during winter time maybe... I have also tried using Bandswitch to disable UMTS as maybe the UMTS reception here is not super good, but still working... Even talking on the phone while charging it drains the battery heavily.... to empty...
Besides from all this the WM6 from LVSW seems to be super quick and stable, maybe the very best one to pick for a HERMES.
I am desperate to find a conclusion here...

Update:
I happened to purchase a faulty device!!! There was indeed a HW error on my brand new device so I got it swapped with another one that works. Not all problems are SW-bugs..
Thought I would come back on this thread.
In the end I had to do a hard reset and rebuild as other problems started to manifest themselves and rebuilding became the easiest option.
Rebuilding has solved the problem; however it might interest you to note that this time I rebuilt the Tytn just like I would build a PC. The OS built itself first, with its associated apps, then I added any other additional OS tools, eg SPB Mobile Shell. I then grouped my apps into a logical order and installed them one by one.
After each install I rebooted the PPC, checked that the last app installed ran ok, then tested every other app to see if they ran as well BEFORE installing the next app. This process was a little tedious but it seems to have paid off.
I have to say though that having rebuilt this piece of kit from scratch at least 20 times in the last 6 months, I just cannot count on it as a reliable business tool in the same way as I did with my previous Symbian device. Shame given how much I spent on it.
When my next upgrade is due a Windows mobile device WON'T be on my list!

Wacky - Get a full back-up tool like SPB backup and you can avoid all that pain. Hard Reset to Restoring a full backup - 10 minutes maybe. Much better than re-installing all those apps everytime you hard reset. And you can create a backup before and after each installation if you wish.

Thanks for the tip. Must admit I had not thought of using SPB backup in the way that you suggest (can't see the wood for the trees sometimes).
Now that I think I have a stable system I will back it up using this tool and create a "line in the sand", in terms of a good system backup.
I still remain to be convinced on the stability/suitability for sustained business use though.

Similar (Battery Meter) Problem
This week, my phone reset for some reason and came up with the screen which shows the current IPL and SPL. The phone still has all the apps and data I installed, so it was not a hard reset. This happened with a 1/2 charge on the battery.
Since that happend a full charge now shows as a 1/2 charge only on the meter and this is as high as the meter will show. The phone still lasts just as long, so there is no physical battery problem.
Anyone know how to fix this without a true hard reset.

The only suggestion I have is to hard reset the unit and then rebuild it from scratch. Worked for me.
In any case it may be advisable to do this as it sounds like you have other problems.
Once rebuilt I suggest you take up Mike Channon's suggestion to get a tool and backup the device. That way if you have further problems you at least have a line in the sand to refer back to.
By the way, I am not ruling out a hardware problem in your case. However my starting point would be my suggestions above.

Strange TyTN behavior when charging
I bought a car charger for my TyTN and used it for ~4-5 months without a problem. One day a fuse went off and after replacing it with a new one and connecting to TyTN, a TyTN stopped charging completely. I checked at home with an original wall charger - nothing. I was stupid enough to try the same car charger with my second TyTN - not surprisingly it burned the other one too :-(
I got them both fixed, a car charger replaced with a new one, so everything should have been working fine. The following happened:
1. First time a car charger is connected, it works fine and the TyTN is charging.
2. Disconnecting a charger and reconnecting it back after couple of seconds restart charging, however this stops after 1 sec and the screen shows as it is not connected.
3. Repeating step 2 does nothing - no charging starts at all.
4. Soft reset - go back to step 1.
5. When TyTN off and car charger connected - charging is working - amber light is on.
6. Wall charger (original), TyTN on or off - charging is working - amber light is on.
I did hard reset as well thinking it might be a broken driver problem, but it didn't help. Tomorrow will try to reload ROM.
Any ideas?
Help will be appreciated (before I take it back to lab and spend another $40 for repair)

This is a known issue. It also appears you've realised the soft reset workaround:
In Car charging
(May be relevant to USB/Mains charging also)
Hermes only charges when switched off
Pulling out charger lead (or interrupting power supply) while charging in car (with device on or off ) may result in Hermes only charging while turned off
Possible Solution:
a.) Connect charger with power on
b.) Switch on Hermes
c.) Soft reset whilst connected
Hermes should now charge whilst on or off.
I charge mine in the car but I do not use a car charger but a 12 volt to 240 volt inverter - so I can plug in a mains charger. Never have problems with this and I can also use it to power my laptop.
Examples here of cheap and expensive ones - small ones and large ones:

Update: tried the method explained, however the situation is still the same - both points 2 and 5.
Regarding the DC-AC inverter - do you use a wall charger or USB output (if there is one, I found one that has both main and USB).

Unless I misunderstand something - one of the primary causes of the problem is the disconnection whilst charging leading to a refusal to charge when re-connected. To quote my post:
"Pulling out charger lead (or interrupting power supply) while charging in car (with device on or off ) may result in Hermes only charging while turned off "
I realise of course this does not explain things and is just a statement about what happens.

THe funny thing is that the other TyTN I have doesn't suffer the same behavior and charges fine, even though I disconnected and connected many times while charging.
Yeap, it's strange, unexplainable and most of all extremely annoying.

I am happy to tell that I managed to figure out how to overcome that problem. I hope it will work for all users - I tried it with 2 different TyTNs and it was OK.
The solution is to plug/unplug the USB charger only when the device is off - not a complete shutdown by long press on Power button, but a short one.
If it's OK, when plugging the lead the power button lights up in <1 sec. If not, it takes ~5 sec to go on.

i discovered today....when i plugged my hermes into the car charger, that it wasnt charging.
after a soft reset it charged. an then.....no problems untill about 22:00 pm. i plugged it again and...same thing, it needed a reset to charge.
what could cause this? igo may way and bluetooth gps. coz i think this is the reason.

Hey everyone,
So I *JUST* walked in from a 7.5 hr drive from Kansas back to Colorado from a family visit, and I have some info that might be of use to some people. Here's some of my observations:
First: Battery! Coming home today, I had the phone aux'd into my car through 3.5 mm, and listened to podcasts and music for the entire trip. Additionally, I had about 45 minutes worth of call time, about 20 text messages, and two email accounts (one exchange, and one gmail that checks every 15 minutes or so). I still have ~20% remaining, which is fairly impressive.
Second: APN... When traveling with my HD7 previously, I could data roam from T-Mobile, to VieraLink to Westlink to USA West (all roaming partners) seamlessly. With my DVP, I was unable to get data to work on the trip out there, even though it showed I was syncing with either GPRS or their EDGE networks.
I hunted around the net, assuming that I would have to change APNs for each network, but luckily, I just "added" the epc.tmobile.com APN, and it worked for all roaming networks across the states.
Third: Charging! This was a big one...I have the Monster Travel-Go USB outlet for my car, and it worked with my HD7 flawlessly. I was able to stay completely charged for the entire trip...on the DVP, however, it looks like it's a little more power hungry. I noticed that the power was slowly dropping, despite being plugged in, and showing the charging symbol. Also, I don't think the power management is very good on WP7 yet, as when it got down to around 25%, it actually power cycled while plugged in. I was able to reproduce the power cycle as long as I had it plugged in to that charger - when I left it unplugged, the phone continued to operate from 25% down to 0...Was very strange. I actually had to spin down my harddrive and use my laptop as a charging device for the remainder of the trip.
I was going to try and pick up the Griffin 1amp USB plug in a couple of days and retry the experiment - but just as a warning, not all car chargers might work with the DVP! (reminds me of the old power-hungry blackberrys days)
Fourth: Freezing! This one is a little more finicky, but I was somehow managed to get the phone to lock-up and require a hard reboot on two occasions! Both times, I was multi-tasking by listening to music, and flipping through the tiles. The first time I didn't think much of it, and just rebooted quickly, but the second time was on the trip home, so I had plenty of time to sit (and I was listening to a podcast, so I let it continue). The device was completely unresponsive, although it continued to play the podcast for another 1-2 full minutes.
There was a notable hiccup - I had just flipped back to the homescreen from the People app, and was getting facebook updates. When I came back to the main screen, where the icon would normally rotate through images, the entire icon filled up with 9 complete (sub)images, which I've never seen before, almost like it was a software glitch (possible infinite loop programming error?)
Anyhow, I know there's a lot of discussion about whether people should get the phone, so hopefully some of this info helps!
Quick question - when you were roaming on the DVP, did it show the standard triangle "roaming" symbol? I'm roaming in Canada right now and it isn't showing that.

What a coincidence, I too traveled from Colorado (Denver) through Kansas and Missouri to Arkansas. I started a thread on the charging issue.
The following things happened in both car and in the house with variety of chargers (I didn't take the DVP chager). I tried the iPhone charger (1A), the iPad charger (2.5A), a dual 1A (each) charger, and then a 1A G2 charger.
1. The phone switches off when you plug it in when the battery is below 25%
2. When you get it to charge, it reaches 100% and then it keeps draining. Like I plug it in @ 80% (it starts charging) then after 6-7hrs (night) I see that the battery is @ about 25%.
3. I the car, it never managed to charge it more than 25%. It was plugged in with nothing on.
Since no one else seam to have this issue, I'm planning to return the phone and see if it's this particular units problem.

No, purchased directly from dell, labeled 12/15/2010.
Completely stock unrooted Nexus 4. Just upgraded to 4.4.3 via OTA a few days ago.
Charging via USB from a computer (as opposed to a wall outlet) now doesn't work right. It always used to take longer since there was less current available, but now it doesn't work at all. If the phone is on, it will actually lose power rather than charge over time when hooked to the PC. If the phone is off, it will charge, but WAY WAY slow, left mine hooked up to my laptop all night (~7 hours) and it only went from 10% to 60%, whereas previously it would have been fully charged in maybe 3-4 hours.

I found the issue. Shortly after I updated Android, I updated my Good For Enterprise app for my work email. So long as Good is running in persistent mode, the phone will not charge via USB and the battery drains wicked fast (basically two sides of the same problem). Shutdown Good and everything works fine. God I hate Good.
On January 29th there was a software update. Since the update I have an extremely slow charge. For example I can put my phone on the charger at night at 30% and when I wake 9 hours later it has only charged 20%. This has happened almost everyday since update. I have checked my charger, changed outlets, put ultra battery save on. Still the same thing happens. One other problem is I will be connected to wifi but it will also alert me to sign into my wifi. I am finding myself restarting my phone all the time to clear issues. Am I the only person have issues since the latest software update??

Use Galaxy Charging Current app (free) from Play Store and see if the phone is getting the correct current - it should get around minimum 1200 milliamps. If not, the cable must be damaged.
My 6P on 6.0.1 stock with the march update has had occasional times where it will intermittently charge, then stop, then charge endlessly, changing back and forth about once a second or more often. There's been times I've woken up, like today overnight when I noticed it barely inched up a percent or two on the Google USB-C cable connected to my laptop.
To isolate this from being a defective cable issue, this has also happened with the Google charger that came with the phone. I would see the screen turn on in fact, like when you first plug the phone with the screen off, to indicate charging has begun. That would occur every few seconds.
I'm a little concerned. The time it happened with the charger, a reboot seemed to have calmed it down. But today no matter the restart, the charging just keeps cycling nonstop.
Anyone else had this? Would it be wise to file a problem with the Google forums and contact support?

Dang, good to know I'm not alone!
I've also experienced higher battery drain (twice more I'd say) than normal recently. Even overnight when I used to see hourly drain rates of 0.5%, now I see 1.5% and higher. Getting worried the charging issue may be damaging the battery. But it could also be the patch or a rogue app.

Well either the cords bad, the brick is bad, or the receptacle. Or the charging port on the phone, the battery or power control module in the phone. Or if theirs a thick case on your phone.
Sounds like it starts to charge then stops. But I'm no electrician. Oh wait, yes I am.
It starts to charge, then stops as though the cable was disconnected, then resumes within half a second, then disconnects, and so on and so forth non stop.
Case might be a reason. It's a rubber and plastic transparent Spigen one. I'll try removing it when it happens again next time.
But at this rate, sounds like 3 people are having the same issue, and if it's a hardware one, then damn....
This isn't the charger... There is something buggy with the update. I woke up a few days ago after the march update with an almost dead phone, and the charging icon flashing over the battery, as if the phone new it was plugged in but refused to charge. I unplugged and plugged it back in with the same result. I restarted and tried again, same result. I was only able to get it to charge my plugging it into my girlfriend's nexus 5x charger, which instantly started charging my phone. I went back to my charger and all of the sudden no issue and the phone was charging fine. There is definitely something up with this update.
Well then, that makes 4 people now.
What's a good way to report this?
I'm not seeing the same exact issue as you guys, but I AM having charging issues after updating to MHC19I. I can still charge my phone from the stock charger and my other USB-C chargers, but now none of them allow my phone to charge rapidly. Do you guys who can get your devices to charge from a rapid charge compatible charger see the "Charging Rapidly" message on the lock screen? Ever since this recent update, I've noticed that my device isn't (and is taking over 2 hours to charge fully from ~20%).
I have this problem too. It's fixed by a reboot so I'm assuming it's not a hardware problem. It only happens once a week or so.
The first time it happened I didn't notice the charging/not charging and only realised something weird had happened because my phone was off & showing fully charged. My phone is never switched off.
I figured it out the next time when I noticed the screen was still on during the night. Switching from charging to not charging was keeping the screen on.
So glad it's not just me.

I normally see it say that on the USB C charger. That being said, you seem to have an intermediate speed going on, as opposed to super slow normal USB cable speeds and the USB-C fast charger. In my experience most 1-1.5V low amp ports like my Mac's, or the car's USB port will charge at a rate of about 1% per 3-5 minutes. So a full charge would take 8-9 hours from 0%. From the USB-C wall charger it would be about 1%/m so an hour and forty is enough to get it back to full.
Based on that your charger seems to be somewhere in the middle.
But yes it isn't normal. If you are using Google's native hardware, you should see the same charging speed as I am.
I'm just terribly worried this cycling is destroying my battery. I have definitely not gotten the same battery life the last few weeks.

My phone just randomly die. It will work for like 2 hours. Almost like the battery would been disconnected.
When the phone shutdowns it says the battery is low and try to charge. The Battery icon with a flash is showing, but just for 5-7 seconds, then it shutdown again and it's looping again and again and again.... To get out of the loop i'm booting in to fast boot, then push at start. and it is almost 50/50 if it is working. It can be booting up and you see the red/yellow/green/blue yada yada boot-up sequence then in 5-7 seconds in to the sequence it would shutdown again immediately.
I tried several factory-resets. re-flashed to stock. Nothing helps.

Just starting having this issue. It constantly says charging then a second later shows no charging and the process keeps repeating itself. I did a reset and the issue seems to be resolved for now. Really hope this isn't a constant issue. Definitely appears to be software related though.

I hadn't had it for a while then recently it happened again once. I still don't know what triggers it for sure.
The battery drain is also rather random. There are days I can expect the unit to idle and drain at or below 2%/h, but lately it just goes through it way faster, twice that. I am unsure why and how that happens so randomly. Seems the Google Play Services and Google Apps are using up some %s. Not much else I can identify.
I've had this issue since a few days ago, restarted the phone and it's come right for now.
Haven't experienced this in weeks now.

Any updates on this? My Nexus 6P started showing the same symptoms (either won't charge at all, or charging cycles on and off rapidly (< 1 second) and only sometimes charges). The issue appeared out of the blue 4-5 days ago, just before the 1 year anniversary of receiving the phone. I tried different cables and adapters, still no change. Last night at 11pm it was at 50% when I set it to charge and it seemed to charge. This morning at 6:30 am it had only charged up to 83% and was charging on and off. Worried about how to reliably use the phone if it won't charge, and also how this might affect the battery / other circuitry.
Any help/tips appreciated!
Edit: The phone hasn't been dropped or had any other issue that may affect the hardware. Also, no OS update or anything recently (AFAIK - it did not ask me to install anything, not sure if there were any silent updates). It is currently on Android 7.0 Nougat (baseband version angler-03.72, build NBD90X, security patch level Oct 5, 2016).
Have not had this in a long time. It sort of stopped on its own. :S
Solved (for me anyways)
I just had to restart the device.
I'm having the same issue on my LG G5. Started out of the blue and like others, restarting temporarily solves the problem. Anyone solve this yet?
