I did an official OTA update of my Samsung S8 SM-G950FD.Post update, the very next day without any phone drop, my phones rear camera developed a black spot or kind of sketch.
It is not a dead pixel on screen just visible when the camera is on and in the pic clicked.:crying:

Maybe there is dust inside the camera
Is it cleaneable if I take it to the service center. Attached image of the problem.

Is it a UFO????
Yes and yes it's cleanable
Try and shake it maybe it will go to the sides
Had you keep it under direct sunlight?
I had similar smudge due to exposing the phone at direct sunlight.

I take a bunch of pictures while welding and using th3 plasma cutter at work. Been doing it for years. And never had any issues with spots or discoloration on my cameras. If you dont know. Without proper shielding welding and plasma cutters can cause burns to your eyes. Like sunburns. Ive been sun burnt by welding i dont think a mere few seconds or so facing the sun will cause this

That were my two cents.
The other suggestions maybe right then. Try to clean it....
Thanks guys, it's gone now..not sure how..probably by just a tap on the back of the phone or a mild shake.
Wow that is weird. I figured a dead at on the camera. In the past Samsung cameras have a tendency to get a purple tint when going bad. Never saw this one before

Hello everyone
I've had this phone for almost 30 days and so far, so good. Seems to be impossible to slow it down. I do have a few questions, however. Does anyone else have to take two pictures to get the digicam to focus? If I take a snap, the first picture is taken as-is, no focus. If I take a second snap of the same subject very quickly thereafter it seems to focus *then* take the snap. Common?
The display seems to be Corning-made GG For Mobile. If that's the case, why does my phone show many small, light scratches on the face after just 28 days' use? No keys or diamonds were in my pocket with the phone. Thanks for any responses.
D
For the scratching part of your question, it might be sand that scratched it. I read that sand can scratch gorilla glass displays.

I read lint can too.
so does your atrix show signs of minor hairline scratches like this on the display? i prefer to go without cases or other additions to the phone's original design, maybe it's time to bend the rules a bit

Studies have recently shown that its worst enemy may in fact be minute particles floating around in the air.
To the TC, I've had the same problems...I was all excited for this magical gorilla glass, so I left it naked for like 2 weeks after I got it. Numerous scratches appeared from seemingly no where, so you're not alone...
The glass is not as resistent to scratches as the captivate. If it is gorilla glass, something is different between the two. I was testing the phone for the trial period and did not apply a screen protector. Wound up with scratches even though I was always careful with the phone.
The camera app does fail to focus on the first try for me too. Definitely a bug that they should fix, but for now I just hold for focus, slide away from button (to not take a picture), lift, hold for focus again, and then lift to take the first picture.
My Gorilla glass has been great so far. Naked since buying it two days after release, no noticeable scratches.
Never had issues with my iPhone 3GS when I had it, and am not having issues with the glass in the Atrix. Both were/are naked. I wipe the screen very regularily to get prints, etc. off it, and always make sure it's a soft material that is very clean. (After 1-1/2 years and a full cycle wash in the washing machine, my iPhone still looked brand new all over, albeit after the wash cycle it became a paperweight).
I'm assuming people who suffer a lot of scratches aren't as careful as they say they are with their phones.
Damn, what do you guys do with your phones? I rocked an Xperia for months and never scratched it despite dropping it. This Atrix screen is damn near indestructible compared to other screens I've had!

My motorola milestone screen was practically unscratchable but I have a very deep scratch on my Atrix. However I will admit I got it in a freak accident, so I imagine under normal circumstances it should hold up pretty well

This screen is really great. I'm a mechanic and I have my phone in my front pocket all day. When I'm under a truck and other vehicles, a lot of dirt usually falls in my pocket. When I take it out, my hands are dirty and greasy and I just wipe it off with my work shirt. I bought my Atrix around four days after it was released and the screen has always been nude. Don't have any scratches that I can see and the screen still looks great after a month of owing it.

That's how it works: Tap and hold for focus until the frame turns green, then release and it takes the picture.

Thank you... apparently saying thats what I did implied I didn't know what I was doing.
It does not turn green the first time, ever.

So if you tap and hold on the shutter button it never turns green? I misunderstood you I think. I thought you meant that if you just tapped it wouldn't focus. That's how mine works too, I have to tap and hold.

When I first run the Camera app and tap and hold the shutter button, the camera will sometimes try to focus but after a second it just gives up. Other times it doesn't try to focus at all. Either way whatever focus it stopped at is incorrect and the framing at the center stays white instead of turning green. If I lift it will take an out of focus shot, so I slide off before lifting. Subsequent pictures while the app is still running focus fine.
I can reproduce this problem 100% of the time in rapid succession just by pressing Back and rerunning the Camera app.

Mine doesn't do that. Sounds broke. I'd exchange it if possible.
Hi everyone, this is my first post in the xda-developers forum!
I dropped my S4 yesterday and a few hours later when I wanted to take a picture with the camera I noticed this horizontal line that goes across the screen (it even casts a shadow underneath the line). At first I thought I might've cracked the camera lens but I shined the camera under a light at all different angles and I can't see any crack. Can someonw help me on this so that I can determine whether I just need to clean the sensor or buy a complete camera replacement?
Try a different camera app. If it's the same then it might be the camera.
That doesn't look like a crack though. Even so, it still might be something case by the impact.

it's definitely inside since you dropped as you said.

Had the Note 4 a bit over a week now and I just noticed something with my camera.
The rear-facing camera always has a small black spec 'stuck' on like there's some debris stuck to the camera. It's not removable by any means... at least without opening up the lens. I can't tell if it's a defective camera or some manufacturing debris from the factory. I don't see how it could've gotten in there from me since the camera is sealed. To state the obvious, yes I've looked at the outer camera cover and done all I can to see if it's removable but it's not. This is probably inside the cover either on or between the lens and the cover.
The spec is only visible at 0% magnification up until 1.4x magnification. Anything above that, the debris is gone from the view. Here's some pictures and a video I took on a white piece of scratch paper. Used the S-Pen to point out the dark spec in red color. This does not move. Always in the same spot relative to the upper lefthand quadrant of the phone display.
So is this a defect or debris? Wondering if I should just take it back to Best Buy for a replacement.

My guess is, that if it was a debris, it would be out of focus, since it would be too close to the sensor. Usually debris looks like a flare and it looks round. Your's looks very crisp. I noticed in your video, that when the camera is focusing, that thing stays perfectly visible. So I think it's a problem with the sensor itself. Like a portion of the sensor cant capture those pixels.
I would take it back and have them change the phone asap.

I think your guess is correct. I stopped by Best Buy on the way home and the Samsung rep said pretty much the same thing you mentioned. They'll replace it, I just gotta go back with the original box and everything to get it replaced.
Thanks!

If you can, open the box in front of the Samsung rep, to check for any scratches on the aluminum bezel. Mine arrived with two pretty big, but I was to bothered to go get a replacement. Also make sure the home button click sound is normal and not loud. I ve heard some people complain about that!
We need a stupid name with this... I don't know if it's a gap or the glass is so thin that the light will leak through. To find out if this happens to you, Google "white" go to images and put your phone on full brightness and go in a dark room and you will probably see through sides of the phone growing lightly, I don't think it should be visible during normal daily use but I found this while in bed. I will have pictures soon I don't have any phones with usable roms at the moment.
yaa.. same here with gold s7 edge
There is no back light like ips displays. There for cannot have light leak. What your seeing is the side angle of the display because it bends. Test this by recreating the situation then turning the phone so the edge part of the display is facing you.

I gave my S7 edge back for warranty repair because the screen stopped working. They changed the screen and now my repaired unit has the same issue. I'm pretty sure the original one didn't. See the pictures. Do you guys think it's normal ?

It is normal. It's because of the curve of the glass, that's all.
Yep i see those too in my device, but i highly doubt people check their phone in that angle.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
As others have said I don't think it's a physical gap in the glass but more of a reflection of light against the edge of the glass. I wouldn't worry about it.
It's normal. Every S7 Edge will look like that. It's just physics.
I am 100% positive that it comes from under the glass and not a reflection of the edge.
I even put a black tape on the edge just to be sure.
Do all of your S7 Edge look like this ?
I have same thing pretty sure it is light bending off the glass and reflecting at an angle that it illuminate the outside edge

Hi Guys,
mine also does that after I replace my cracked screen.
Samsung has released a statement about this. Just google: Light leak Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, and you will find it in the first one from Samsung website.
Hope this one help.
Cheers

I dont think it does this because of the curvature of the glass, because if you add pressure to the screen the "light leakage" sort of goes away.

lol, I've seen that. but I'm just saying, from my observation I noticed tiny spots along the line of light at the edges, possibly dust or air during production of the phone. If the light was caused simply because of the bend of the screen, wouldn't it be a perfectly straight line?
i dont know if your still going on about this but the top speaker also lights upcause of the light leak
I just got my brand new S8+ USA Unlocked version today. Been playing with it, getting it set up, and was taking some pictures outside while sitting (parked) in my vehicle.
It's very bright and sunny here in Tulsa today, but I'm parked under an overpass, so I'm in shade. I was not intentionally talking pictures of my legs, but was looking down as I was looking at settings, and I noted the image looked very foggy. Actually I received the dirty lens notification, but I had just wiped the lense off with microfiber. I confirmed it was clean, but the image was still foggy.
I took my case off just in case and no change. That when I noticed it. A semi circle of light around the edge of the picture. Identical to the lens flare WIDELY reported in the Pixel camera.
Now I know, all lenses have flare, and the software, filter, processors, etc eliminate it, but it was such a huge deal with the Pixel.
I know this was not a normal lighting condition, shaded area with a bright background, but honestly it was only during similar scenes that I would see the flare on my Pixel.
I'll check my wife's phone to see if hers also flares, but my guess is that it will.
Anyone else noticed this?
The second image I posted is darker and clearer because I used the auto correct in editing. It originally looked just like the first.
Never noticed any lens flares on my phone, but the pixel's lens flare is much worse, see if you get it in other situations.

I'll definitely keep an eye on it. I didn't think the Pixels was that bad or any worse then this one, and I've used the Pixel XL for the last six months.

My finger was nowhere near the lens and I had just wiped it clean with a microfiber cloth. There were no fingerprints or smudges on it.
