Got "text could not be delivered" message while talking on phone - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi folks,
Been using my 6t (totally stock, not rooted, version 9.0.12) quite happily for months. I'm on AT&T mobile service in the U.S. Honestly I don't spend a lot of time actually talking on the phone with it; have never bothered activating VOLTE in large part because I don't want to fight with ATT over turning on that SIM permission.
Anyway, yesterday I was talking on the phone and got two notifications, something about "text could not be delivered; check your APN settings"
After I hung up I immediately got two texts from my kids.
My phone automatically used the ATT nextgenphone APN when I set it up in December; never had any problems.
There is also an ATT Phone APN..
Before I mess around with any of this, does anyone have input on this (very small) issue?
While not a big deal I guess I would like to be able to get texts while talking.
Thanks

T-Mobile data connection, SMS, MMS and missed calls problems

Okay, I'm at my absolute wits' end here with T-Mobile. This is my first time posting here, I've trolled the forums for some time and have gotten some very valuable info here and I figured you guys were the best ones to talk to. Anyway, T-Mobile was FANTASTIC up until about 3 months ago when it all went to crap. I'm getting voicemails with no missed calls quite frequently these days.
Every now and then SMS messages come in 2 hours before they were sent (not really, but that's what the phone says) and it's completely inconsistent. I'll be having a conversation with someone and a text will come at 8:19pm and the next one at 6:21pm.
MMSs just don't come to or send from my phone anymore. No reason why. They show up as sent from my end but people don't receive them and I don't get them at all.
My internet connection (I have the $20 plan...whatever it's called) frequently stops working and a screen comes up every 30 seconds demanding I log on to the T-Mobile network. I have never received a username, password or domain (I think that's the third thing it asks for) so wtf am I supposed to put in there?
I'm done. The only reason I haven't crapped in a bag and mailed it to them is because I'm waiting for the Touch Pro to come out on Sprint. It's brutal. And it's hurting my social life. I got into a huge fight with a friend because half of my texts weren't going through and the ones she DID get made it seem like I was being a **** when I really wasn't at all. She still isn't talking to me and that was 2 weeks ago. It's so cliche to just blame the phone, BUT IT REALLY IS.
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this at all?
actually, you can't blame the phone. Blame the network. But thats just semantics.
have you tried using network wizard to set up some settings for your device?
What network wizard?
And yes, of couse I blame ****-Mobile, not the phone. The phone has been amazing. It's their crappy service that makes it look like a POS.

[HELP] Problems Receiving Text Messages on T-mobile's $30 Prepaid Service

Well as the title says, I've been having issues receiving texts messages on the $30 prepaid plan.
What happens:
-I will randomly not receive a text message, or I will receive it days later(if I turn my phone on after being off all night), or I will receive a message that is one half the current message and one half an old message from days/weeks ago(the are intertwined).
-It happens complete sporadically, no rhyme or reason. It happens at my apartment, while I'm sitting at work, or at the gym. At my lowest signal level I will have 2 bar remaining of "3g" but it's usually around 3 (I'm in Pittsburgh).
What I've tried so far to fix it:
-I had T-mobile swap out for a new sim card.
-I've contacted T-mobile customer service twice. They've "refreshed" my connection to their network, reset my sim, played with my account, etc.
-I'm using Chomp SMS as my messaging app. The issues also occurred when using the stock messaging app.
-I've cleared the cache for both apps.
What I haven't tried and what you may need to know:
-I haven't played with the APN settings all. As far as I know all of those settings are set straight from/by T-mobile.
-I'm not rooted
-I've had this problem intermittently since buying the nexus4 from google in Nov.
-My original nexus 4(which I RMA'ed) also had the problem- looking back I just thought it was the other persons phone. Which makes me believe it's on T-mobiles end, or at least a tweak in an APN setting?
-Zero issues with call clarity, data speeds. All have been perfectly fine.
-It doesn't seem to matter which carrier the person who is sending me the message is on.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or has anyone else experienced similar issues? I'd like to hope that there's a simple fix that doesn't require me changing to ST and using AT&T but I guess if I have to... I have too. I'm at a complete loss as to what else I could try in order to fix this.
All help, tips, suggestions are welcome. Thank guys!

I have had this issue on and off with SMS messages and "Waiting Voice Mail" messages over the years (mostly on pre-smartphones and G1). All you can really do is reboot the phone often (at least once a day). I think it's related to messages sent while your phone has no service, but not 100% sure.
For 3 yrs with a half dozen smartphones I had texting issues with tmo and now on straight talk tmo it is the same thing.
It hasn't been as bad as you seem to have it but there do sometimes seem to be heavy delays.

Stuck on Setup Wizard Screen

Hello All,
Just got my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge today
upon attempting to activate the phone it start I choose a language and then when it begins the Setup Wizard it only gives me the option to make an emergency call or turn off the phone.
When I got my LG G4 Last year in the mail I activated it without issue, I do believe I needed to register the SIM card online but I looked around on Verizon's website and the only thing I could see was Activate a Device, which gave me an error each time.
Something to the effect of this option is not available at this time please try again later, except I tried this from roughly 6 PM until Midnight EST.
Can someone point me in the right direction for actually activating this phone?
Have you tried to take the SIM out and run through the start-up process?

Same thing happened to both my lines. I think it's happening to a lot of people.
I cleared the issue easily by calling the automated Verizon customer service number (from another phone) and telling it I was activating a new device. It will ask you something like "are you activating a device on this line or another line", then you just input the number of the line you're activating. It will then take a few moments on hold, and then prompt you to turn off your old device, blah blah blah, and voila! Problem solved.
The customer service number is 800-837-4966 (at least in Ohio where I live). This took all of about 2 minutes each line I activated. So it's pretty easy and quick. Best of luck.

I had the exact same problem and solution. My S6 was still powered on while I was activating the S7. It's the same number and you can't have two phones activated on the same line. Once I turned my S6 off all was good.
Hey I got it working.
Called (877) 807-4646 to activate a new device since the website was not working.
Looked like nothing happened initially.
Turned off my old LG G4 and Left my S7 Edge on overnight.
Woke up this morning with neither phone working, called Verizon. After rebooting my S7 it started to activate no problem, I do not think the rep actually did anything but I was running late so I just preemptively called.
Yeah forgot to tell you that you should have turned your S7E off before calling. Glad you got it working!

I bought my S7E at Verizon full price. I told her I didn't want to activate the new phone yet and just wanted to take it home and swap sims.
However when I got to my car, I noticed my current G4 was with no service. I guess they scan and activate it prior to even opening up the box. Pretty upset.

repeat text messages

Got my phone from Sprint, activated it Monday and I keep getting repeat texts. I've called them and had my network settings reset on their end, I've reset the network settings on my phone, updated profile and profile, rebooted phone, everything I can think of. I'm still getting texts, from multiple people/security codes.
Is there anything else I can do?
I am having a similar issue. Yesterday I wondered why my phone appeared to be a bit on the quiet side. Turns out I can send text out just fine, but receiving them has proven a problem...
I was able to get an MMS message from one person, and then a repeat SMS message sent before that MMS on their end, again, again, and again, (At least 30 times so far) every 5 minutes or so until about mid last night...
Today I tried to do a full reprovision which doesn't seem to have done much. I got that same text once again, and the one after it, but I am still not getting anything after that from them, or anyone else who may or may not have texted me....
Not good and I can't figure out if it's a Sprint or Phone issue. :/
I'll like to add on to this, I have experienced the same issue.
I'm on Sprint as well.
There was two days I didn't get any replies from texts I sent out, then when one of them called me all their texts all came in at once, those messages had the times for when they was originally sent.
Even the girlfriend is telling me to return the phone now.
In the past when I've had similar issues I usually texted myself to see if it would send. So on the last day I was having issues I did that, I got back my message, so I'm like okay it works. Then 5 minutes later I got the message again.
Sounds like some quirkiness of the phone working with Sprint's network. The only people I have heard have this issue are Sprint users. I'm on T-Mobile myself and everything works. I did however have to manually correct my APN settings in order to send/receive MMS with WiFi Calling enabled. Have you confirmed your APN settings are correct?
This happens on sprint regardless of the device. Every Android phone I've had since 2008

I think you are right. I didn't necessarily had this issue with every phone but it did happen with Moto X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P and now with Essential phone.
I've never had this issue before on any device on Sprint, and have had Sprint for a long time. Moto photon, HTC one a9, and now this. My wife has had Galaxy S5, note 3, s7, so with no issues
I have the complete opposite problem. I don't get texts for 1 to 2 hours after some one sends it. And I also don't get voicemail notifications. I don't know if I'm just missing something or what.
So, no ideas on how to fix? I've been on chat with Sprint 2x but didn't have time to finish the process. It takes 2+hours

The fix for it is pretty ridiculous but it seems to work:
Simply call someone and have it connect. For some reason this gets it to connect properly to the network. I'd guess it is a provisioning issue but who knows.
(Now if I can only get mobile data to work on all sites and not sporadically)
done that and its temporary, as soon as i get another text they all come in a flood

Guess it was Google voice that was causing the issue. Need to find a new voicemail app
I'm having the same problem I'll text someone but I won't get theirs back until I make a phone call I'm also on Sprint I was on the phone with tech support and told me to take the phone to the store to see if it was defective they ran a diognostic and everything came back good they said if it happens again to call customer service non of them know what to do

Do the online chat, that's where I had the best success. The people in store were 0 help.
Are you using Google voice? Try factory resetting and not using that app
No I'm not using it I did the tech support app they are the ones who sent me to the store
There are two fixes to this:
1. As mentioned previously you can place and connect a random call. The negative is that you need to redo it periodically per need.
2. Change your cellular network to not include LTE (CDMA/EvDo auto or the like) settings-->wireless & networks-->cellular networks
Method 2 also fixes some other cell data issues such as not being able to open certain sites.
The negative is very slow data speed <5Mbps since you are using 3G which is an older wireless standard.
A quick way to see if things are working is to do a speedtest, if there is no upload speed (quick bounce then zero) then something is wrong.
It appears to be a communication/handoff issue and not hardware related so I'd expect a fix to this reasonably soon.
Just turn off text notifications within the gvoice app

I did that already. It's not the duplicate app notifications from gvoice and messages. It's multiple texts.
I'm not using gvoice anymore and haven't had a problem
I still don't see a fix for this does anyone know if sprint is working on this

I wiped phone and didn't install Google voice, everything seems to be working fine now

is it the phone or is it sprint???

Some texts won't come through I also am getting repeat texts. Some voicemails either. I called Sprint to refresh on there end and all of a sudden everything comes through at once. Some of the messages were 4 days old. Wtf. My first reaction is to to be pissed of at Sprint cause I can't stand the network. So my question is should I contact essential?
I was literally about to post this same question. I think it has something to do with our preferred network type/enhanced lte mode/APNs or some variation of it. My only work around for now is using Google Voice, however MMS is still giving me issues.
Maybe it is a combination of essential AND sprint! Following this thread in hopes that we can figure out a fix.
Edit: I wonder if the issue will be resolved once we receive the update. I read that we can sideload it but I haven't got around to it yet. Have you updated yours?
It's Sprint. Used the have problems with my Nexus 5 but haven't had any issues with the essential. Just as a test, check your signal when you have the issues and see if you can get the sender to do the same thing. My mom, who has terrible signal at her house, will send me double texts sometimes. But if she is out and about, no issues

I originally hadn't had this problem. Just got an RMA replacement today and was having this problem on the new one. I updated the profile and the problem seemed to go away. But I've only received 2 factor authentication texts so far so not really comfortable saying it's fixed yet.
But if you want to try it:
1. Go to Settings
2. Tap About Phone
3. Tap OMADM Updates
4. Tap update profile.
Updating prl here would be worth doing too.
OP and others, still having issues? got this phone saturday and have been getting duplicate texts.... i can deal with that but not completely missing texts.

I am still having this issue of duplicate texts. My temp fix is using Google voice and turning off the messages notifications. However, I had to create a Tasker profile to notify me when I get mms.
I've done all the updates to no avail.
I am not experiencing any of the issues being mentioned on this thread. Had my phone almost a week now and no issues at all. Texts and calls, etc all work fine. No duplicates.
