Picked up my samsung tab from VZW direct retail earlier today.
Interesting note on the activation
as soon as the tab was turned on, it dialed a number on what appeared to be a stock dialer for the activation.
Also interesting to note is that the tablet was assigned it's own number under my account. An actual local area code one at that.
Is this the same for Verizon MiFi devices?
Lastly,
size comparison between my droid inc, evo, and new tablet
So how do you like it so far. Did you add the data right there?

performance wise it's as expected from an Android OS..the only thing I can tell is noticeably slower than either of my phones is the web browser. I did add the $20 data plan on month to month.
I got a tmobile tab yesterday and the stock browser is definitely laggy at times but I'm using dolphin hd and it is buttery smooth and very fast!
is it true that it only has 2gb of onboard storage? You can check by going to the "settings" menu and going to "storage".
I believe you are correct. Right now it says I only have 1.12 GB free on internal storage, 14.73GB free on the 16GB external SD card that's provided from Verizon.

extremely disappointed with that. T-mobile is not only CHEAPER with a contract, but it also has 8 times for storage (16gb).
edit: I know this will sound stupid, but someone over at android central posted a comment that it didn't have android market, which I find hard to believe.

It has android market lol, I picked up most of my usual apps right away. This really needs a fresh rom though to get rid of all the bull**** everywhere though. It's too busy to even look at, had to get rid of everything on home screens lol

Is that true? I thought all US versions have 2gb internal and a 16gb micro-sd card.
Yeah t-mobile has built-in 16gb, and an external slot for ur own SD card. Picked up the t-mobile yesterday.
The T-Mobile version does come with more than 2GB internal... I am looking at mine now and it says:
Internal Memory:
Total Space: 12.66GB
Available Space: 12.47GB

Nope, just the CDMA ones, same as the Fascinate and Epic. Don't know if that's a hardware issue with the radios, or just Verizon and Sprint being cheap, or them being aware of the RFS lag issues and sidestepping it with the lower internal memory.
Does it have GPS built in? Every review I've come across never touches this subject.
TMO Version: Yep GPS built in. Got mine last night. Confirmed it does have 16GB internal and sd slot. so I guess up to 48GB.
I didn't even realize that about the internal memory. Kind of sucks, but still wanted the vzw version.

2) Take your own screen shots in the T-mobile version by pressing the back button and press the power button to take screenshots. simple! no req root nor cap apps.
3) Use pinch to zoom in/out gesture to view all the 5 or 7 desktops all at once.
4) If you have bluetooth mouse and/or bluetooh keyboard use it. Like this:

the internal memory is also used for all the apps that come pre-installed, not to mention the OS as well. its 16gb on the phone, but a lot of it is used up already thanks to Samsung and T-Mobile

Maybe but I came from S3, but isn't 8Gb too much for just bloatware? On my previous S3, the total available internal memory was 11.25gb. I would understand the 4.75Gb reduction because of the OS (I already have removed some bloatware) But 8Gb?
Why manufacturers even makes phones these days with 16gb internal memory is beyond me.
Some games these days are 4gb each! that gives you enough space for 2 top of the line games on your phone, ridiculous!
I can understand back in the day of the Galaxy S and S2 having 16gb but not these days. Also Samsung really shouldn't claim 16gb when half of it used up already!! It's very misleading. We do not have 16gb available at all.
It was understandable when the OS and system apps only used to take up around 2gb, but saying the device has 16gb storage when 8gb is already taken doesn't seem right to me.

Samsung should be reported to trading standards. It's clearly not got 16gb free for the user nor is there any warning that half is already used.

well true, but it has always been this way. not sure of any phone with internal memory that wasn't partially used by the phones OS, even non-android phones are like this, even iOS
Same issue with windows and Mac computers lol. But yes, I agree that 32 Gb should be new min standard because of app size increases as the years go by.

Partially used is ok. Not 50% used. Big difference. And there needs to be a warning apps/games cannot be saved on the sd card - forget tweaks that's for tech geeks not the average person.

Well they neber stated 16gbs free or 16gb useable...so what woupd report them for? You expecting more?
Every device is like this...some more than others. But even blank hardrives/flash drives don't have as much as they claim...buy a terabyte blank hard drive and your actually only getting 9XXgb hard drive
And you cant really base it off the s3 as every year the system partition gets larger taking up more space...due to more features/bloat being added. The worst part is not even debloating will increase your free memory as the whole system partition needs to be changed if you want more user space
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
So now we are justifying why it is ok for companies to do this? surely not. So if the S5 is 16gb with 4gb free that will be ok then?
no, its not ok, but you can try emailing samsung instead of beating a dead horse here
but here's the thing. hard drive manufacturers have been doing this for decades. when they say 16gb they dont mean gigabyte, they mean 16 billion bytes. there is a difference.
hard drive makers use base 10 in computing hard drive sizes, so when you see 16gb it really means 16 billion bytes which is less than what you think you are getting. those who understand binary know the difference. in base 2, if i say kilobyte, that means 1024 bytes, but on a hard drive, it means 1000 bytes. see the difference?
on my wife's Tmo S4 she has 9.62gb free from her 16gb internal memory, a lot yes, but not half
I have been in touch with Samsung. They blame Google. I've responded and awaiting a further response.
The available memory varies dependant on carrier. 9.62gb is the UK average I believe.
The other issue is Samsung doesn't sell the phone. It gets orders from carriers and wholesalers. The carriers and wholesalers all chose 16gb since they all thought the memory was expandable with sd card along with apps and games being able to be saved on the sd card.
Maybe a few months down the line we will see 32gb versions being available. I am hopeful.
I'm still holding out for the 32gb version of the Galaxy S4 on Sprint.
Any word?
Also is there a way to get the 32gb version on Verizon and use it on Sprint?
Thanks

So I switched over to Boost Mobile in order to get my hands on this phone. I really like it but my version only has 4GB of ROM, so after the OS and bloatware I'm left with less than 3GB of usable storage. I contacted Boost about this and they said that they only sell the 4GB version. I haven't seen anybody else really mention this problem so I'd like to see if anybody here can let me know how much available space they have on their phone that they ordered from Boost Mobile's web site. Thanks!

With all the apps I have installed (1.2GB) I have 2.8GB free, so 4 GB useable seems to be what I have on my Boost model I also purchased online. I don't remember the exact amount after first boot, but it was about a couple hundred MB used already.
Maybe doing a factory reset can fix it?

That's why everyones wanting an unlocked bootloader or root, to get rid of all the crap on internal and make full use of the 128gb external for apps and not just media. Once this phone gets a break on either of those this phone would be a powerhouse for media, till then were stuck patiently waiting.
So ordered the 10+ 512gb 5G (uk) version, was wondering if it would be worth my while to get a new memory card, or use the 64GB one I have had a few years?
What recommendations do you have for a new card, will it be faster etc?
thanks
I think I'll continue to use the one that came with my Note-8.
I'm going to add in the one I got for the note 7 pre-order. High speed sd not that big of a deal to me on a phone. Others may disagree
I use this card: https://amzn.to/300f7NM

Honest question, what would you need a memory card for with the 512gb version?
I agree its a lot of storage, but if the phone locks up and i have to hard reset, i will probaly lose everything. Thats why i prefer a memory card.

Yeah for sure ,, I have admittedly in the past fiddled around with ROMs and mods so it was really an issue then
I've even screwed up and formatted SD cards before lol UGH
But I definitely prefer to try to store things -- photos, documents, etc on an SD card (really hard to get used to not having that when trying/using pixel or OP devices)

Very understandable, I just use Google Photos to back them up. Anything else I have downloaded I just redownload.
Now I do prefer to use a SD card when I root a phone even though my OnePlus 7 Pro doesn't have one.
When I bought my S10+ I took one of the 128gb SD cards I use in my GoPro 7 black and popped it in (I'm 100% sure the speed of it is overkill, SanDisk Extreme PRO). I just checked and have 119.6 available...lol. The only thing on it is two old sms backups, I've since switched to backing them up to my Google Drive.
If you don't mind spending the money it's an amazing card. When I receive my Note 10+ I don't think I'm using a SD and my S10+ will be just my backup phone so the SD card will make it's way back to the GoPro.

Depends if your full or not.
Ive been using a 64gb i got from one of the samsug promo for a while then got a 128gb in another promo. So i use that, but its not even half full.
I've ordered the Samsung 512Gb Evo plus, mainly so I can move the 128Gb in my Note 9 currently to the Tab S6 when it arrives though.
I am maxed on on the 64GB Note 8... Do have a 256GB card in it though which is about 3/4 the way full... Preordered the Note 10+ 512Gb 5G - and SOOO much want to get the 1TB cards that just came out on the market... but smarter to just wait until the insane proces come down.... Guess I'll just have to sit tight and wait... LOL
Because Note 10 plus has UFS 3.0 I need to know if UFS memory cards will work in note 10 +.

Did some research. There are UFS Memory cards on the market but the Note 10+ does not support it, it only supports microsd cards up to 1tb.
The ufs storage is MUCH faster and uses less power, and those removable cards are used in Samsung Notebooks (note the one on sale on eBay, check the compatibility part of the description), but they have not caught on yet for widespread use and that is the main issue.
They should have offered a Note 10+ compatible with ufs cards as well!
This article although not very well written and 8 months old, is a somewhat good overview:

Speed ?
There's not much to be debating about external SD storage. Any higher quality microSD will do. I'm using the same 128GB San Disk Extreme as I had in my previous S10e with all the personal folders saved, like pictures, music etc... The only thing I did was to delete all the system remnants like Android related folders, Amazon music(it's proprietary-protected, it has to be reloaded from Amazon again) and that was it. My new N10+ has accepted that SD from S10s like it's own.

Not everyone is going to need the 512GB Evo Plus, but for those who might be interested in filming in 4k60fps for long duration it's practically a must. Just remember two years back a 128GB card was "Just plain unnecessary" but as the push for higher resolution in games, movies, and images continues the need for space to store them grows too. I grabbed a 512GB Evo Plus for $85 on Amazon, myself.
