Moto G5 Plus STUCK with no service - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

I've had and used T-Mobile service for the longest time since last year. Last night I woke up to the phone shutting down. And after I turned it back on after charging it for a bit service was not picked up at all.
Already tried safe mode, clearing cache via recovery, toggled airplane mode on/off and rebooted numerous times. It's always been on stock since Nougat and updated to Oreo just fine, ran fine like a champ for months till this. Never rooted. Unlocked. Even went in with T-Mobile and they don't know what's going on either, they reset my APN and network to see if that would fix it but no dice, still no service.
Any ideas? Please. I need service working again on my G5 Plus.

Obvious question probably, but does the sim card show up or does the device show no sim card?

Settings > System > About phone > Status > SIM Status?
What should I look for here that indicates that it's there?

Even after updating to the recent Feb security patches it still won't pick up service. Can't afford to send it in nor reset it.

What do you mean you can't afford to do a factory reset?
As for your earlier question, SIM status would show:
Network: T-Mobile
Signal strength: -101 dBm (yours would be different)
Mobile network type: LTE
Service state: Voice: In service / Data: In service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Connected
My phone number: whatever it is
IMEI: whatever it is
IMEI SV: 14 or whatever yours is

Mobile network state: disconnected

Got an x10 today off ebay, unlocked after browsing this forum, by htc-code, network shows carrier on home screen, signal shows 4 bars, yet in status it says mobile network state: disconnected, this results in me not being able to get any calls at all, not even a simple balance check, the sim card is pay&go whilst I sort it out but as far as I'm concerned it isn't a data plan issue or anything like that.
Just wondered whether this is an issue anyone knows anything about or whether it's been imei blocked or whether I should just get in touch with tesco.
possibly important info:
Tesco mobile
phone was locked to orange, now unlocked
firmware 1.6
baseband 1.1.25
kernel 2.6.29-rel semc-android semc #2
signal strength -85dbm 14asu
mobile network type utms
service state in service
mobile network state disconnected
Being a pay as you go, the SIM might need activating? Ring your Telco and see what they say.
The sim came out of another phone I've been using for the past 3 years I'll give them a call later to set up a data plan anyway.
Got hold of Tesco, they couldn't solve it, imei isn't blocked or anything, tried and Orange simcard (the network it was originally on) and that works and makes calls, my other sim doesn't make or recieve calls, so it looks like it hasn't been unlocked fully. I need to get hold of htc-code and try to figure out a solution, that is, when they're online. I'll post back with an outcome.
both my x10a and my nexus1 say the same thing, mobile network state disconnected, and my phones work great. i am on wifi now, but when i turn off wifi my phone has no issues with cellular data.
your phone must not be unlocked yet or you might not have entered your apn correctly. make sure the apn is correct for your network and try again
i just turned off wifi and waited for the 3g symbol to reappear and now my mobile network state reads connected. so this indicates if you are attached to the network for data only.
i would still make sure that you manually configure your networks apn settings and then try to make a call. i think i had an issue when i had flashed to a different firmware and had not entered my carriers info.
Thanks for the reply mate, I'll try that seeing as ferraripassion/sudarshan is offline I'll let you know how it goes.
Sort of fixed, manually entering APN puts up 3g symbol and changes mobile network state to connected, even on wap internet, but I still can't make or receive calls on this sim card :/
Thought I'd check the phone on checkmend this morning, although the phone does still work on an orange sim card, checkmend says
Ever blocked UK: This item has been blocked during its lifetime by one or more UK network(s).
IMEI Currently blocked: This item is currently blocked on one or more networks. It may still work on some networks.

So, with that, does anyone have any advice on IMEI unblocking/people to contact and getting my cash back?
Write to matey boy on eBay and get money back. Because clearly, he's sold a non-working phone that's probably been nicked.

Limited Service / No Signal, Please help!!!

I recently exchanged my o2 HD7 for a Desire HD locked to 3, i had the phone unlocked and everything was amazing!
2 Days ago the phone came up with a message 'limited service' and 'Emergency calls only' on the lock screen and i cannot get the phone to connect to my network at all.
So far, Ive checked both covers on the back ensuring the pins connect properly for the aerial and there is no damage to either panel.
Hard reset did nothing to help, it booted straight up with the same limited service message.
Ive searched here and google for anyone else with the problem but i cant find anything of any help.
o2 have told me they cant anything other than sent it to repair to get a quote for fixing it...
What i dont get is that the phone can still make emergency calls yet it cannot connect to any of the networks.
Under Menu > Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > Search Networks, I can see a list of all the networks including o2 UK 3G and o2 UK, when i press to connect to any of them i get the message 'Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network'
I have tried my SIM card in another phone and it works perfectly, ive tried another o2 SIM and a Vodafone SIM in the Desire HD and they dont work either so i know its a problem with the phone.
The phone is not rooted, has a stock 3 branded rom and there are no available updates for the phone.
Ive had the IMEI number checked and the phone is not blocked (o2 customer service did this for me).
Some info on the phone:
Model number: HTC Desire HD A9191
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_m
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d

Build Number:1.37.771.3 CL290190 release-keys
Software Number: 1.37.771.3
Browser Version: Webkit 3.1
When i dial *#*#4636#*#* i get a load more information on the phone, some i think might be relevant are:
Signal Strength -85 dBm 14asu
WCDMA Preferred is selected
Ciphearing is ON
As far as i know the phone hasn't been cooked and has the original 3 branded ROM... Is there a chance the guys who unlocked my phone did something to the software?
If anyone can help me i would really appreciate it! i cant afford to take it for repair
I had the same problem with a so called new HD phone out the box.I phoned HTC they said the only option was a repair or replacement so i sent mine back for a replacement.
Ill have to give them a call wen i get home and see what they say.
It must be a problem with something stopping the connection though, like i said i can see a list of available network operators.
Anyone think a better radio could work? would this stop HTC from repairing it though?
Something that might be worth noting is that i cannot swich the phone to GSM only.
In both the *#*#4636#*#* > phone information > set preferred network type & Menu > settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > network mode, i cannot make any changes, no matter what i select i cant change it, it always stays on WCDMA preferred for *#*#4636#*#* and GSM / WCDMA auto for the menu in 'network mode'
If i turn off the radio in *#*#4636#*#* menu, if i try to change the preferred network type, i can choose any but no matter what mode i pick it changes to GSM auto (PRL) and i cant choose anything else. but when i turn radio back on it automatically changes to WCDMA preferred
ive figured out that if i turn off the phone and remove the sim, reboot and enter into *#*#4636#*#* i can change the settings mentioned above, change the mode no problem, turn the phone off and put the sim back in and the setting stays (but once the sim is in i cant change the setting from what i set without a sim in). ive tried switching to GSM only but still getting limited service so far, ill try every mode if i have to. Going to go to the shop where it was unlocked now as well. I will keep posting updates in here as id imagin itl be helpfull to someone else at some point.
Anyone any suggestions?
Sounds like it has been blacklisted. I wouldn't trust o2 to give you the correct information. That behaviour is typical with blacklisted devices. Maybe HTC will fix it. Goid luck.
Sent from my Motorola Startac
I believe its a stolen phone.
I went back to the shop that unlocked it and we tried and o2 sim, vodafone, t mobile and 3 and non of them worked. We tried a virgin sim and it worked, but thats the last network to be blocked on a blacklisted phone.
Going go to back to the shop i bought it from tomorrow, the best give me a replacement of the same phone or im just going to go to the police.
Turns out the phone was blocked by 3 for no payment on the contract it was taken out on. watch out when buying a second hand phone even from retail stores! ive lost £25 unlocking the phone but the retailer (cex) have been very helpful and are swapping it like for like with another DHD and lent me a desire until my new DHD is in stock!

Loss of Signal

Moto g4 XT1625 - retail purchase (non-Amazon)
Stock ROM 6.0.1 - Not rooted
Build#: MPJ24.139-64
Carrier: RingPlus (Sprint)
Phone was working fine. About 6 days ago cell signal went to 0 (just the outline of the triangle signal meter with nothing inside) and could not make or recieve calls, texts or use any data.
Cannot update PRL - says no update available
Profile update does nothing just stalls on configuring screen
Settings>About Phone>Status>IMEI - sometimes shows correct info, sometimes shows all 0s
Settings>About Phone>Status>SIM - 0s, unknown, out of service, disconnected, sometimes shows phone# and IMEI -
SIM Status Service State: Voice/Data - out of service/radio off
I have done factory resets and networking resets. Nothing has worked. I have different phone on the same plan/carrier that is working fine. I submitted a ticket w/the carrier and waiting their response. Any ideas for me to troubleshoot while I wait?
Thank you !

Calls go straight to voicemail

Hi,
I have a H873 on Telus in Canada. Some calls go straight to voicemail in some situations:
If,
- In Advanced wifi settings, wifi is "on only when charging" AND
- Phone is locked for at least a minute
Calls go straight to voicemail, even if there are no wifi networks nearby.
If the phone is awake calls go through normally.
If wifi if off, calls go through normally.
I have no VoWiFi settings on my phone.
So far, I have resetted network settings. Didn't work.
I did a factory reset and set up the phone as a new one. Didn't work.
Went in the hidden menus and pu VoWiFi to 0 (default was -1). Didn't work.
Changed the sim card. Didn't work.
I wasn't able to change network. Will try next week.
Network at home does the same thing that the one at work. They are both using Ubiquiti antennas but I am using an open network at the office (I first thought of the the WPA2 channels or encryption method).
I previously had a S7 Edge on the same network with no problem. Had a S8 for a couple of days to test the device. every device worked correctly. Only the G6 does that.
The phone is on the latest security patch (july 2017). Not rooted.
I wonder if it's software related or hardware. Device is unlocked. I will turn off VoLTE, seems like the next logical step.
Any resolution?

Still Having Verizon / Page Plus Connectivity Problem

Sorry for dragging this issue out again, but I got my phone messed up again.
Situation is that I use PagePlus (Verizon MVNO) It was sorta working, but I was only getting 1X data on my A2017U running version B35. If I restarted the phone, I would get an LTE signal until the phone went back to standby. I got tired of that, and I took some time to try to get it reinitialized per the messages here and on the ZTE forum site.
The result now is the phone starts up, says Verizon Wireless for about 4 to 15 seconds, then it goes to No Service / Emergency Calls Only. LTE never appears on the screen.
To get to this condition, I backed up my files cleared cache and did a factory reset.
I put in a T-Mobile SIM. When I start with that, the top of the screen shows HOME and two bars. I restarted the phone a couple of times, then put the PagePlus SIM.
I can put the PagePlus SIM into my old Galaxy S4 and I get LTE service
With the PP SIM in place, under the SIM Settings, I have:
Network Mode: LTE/WCDMA/GSM
Data Roaming : On
Access point settings:
Name: Verizon Internet
APN: TRACFONE.VZWENTP
MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 311
MNC: 480
APN type: default,dun,mms,supl
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN enable/disable: APN enabled
Everything else Not Set or None
In the phone diagnostics, it does show my proper phone number. The IMEI displayed matches the sticker on the back.
Current Network: blank
Signal Strength: -1 dBm 99 ASU
Voice Service: Emergency Calls Only
Data Service: Disconnected
Voice Network Type: Unknown
Data Network Type: Unknown
Voice Call Status: Idle
Roaming: Not Roaming
Preferred Network Type: LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL)
Right now it shows me attached to a Verizon tower since the Cell Measurement Info shows MCC is 311 and MNC is 480. It has attached to GSM signals at other times.
I thought I followed all the right steps. Did I miss something?
Thanks,
Paul
I had the same issue. I had to have Verizon manually approve the device on their network. I still don't have VoLTE, but i have data (4G) and calls. Call them and explain what your trying to do. They should help you.
Thanks.
I tried calling, but their system kept wanting me to enter a phone number to get through. It hung up on my a couple times. I went to a Verizon corporate store today, but they couldn't (or wouldn't) help.
I tried calling Page Plus again just now. I got up to 2nd level support this time, and he went through the IMEIs for my phones. He was saying I had a different number assigned to my account that I couldn't identify. We ended with him suggesting a contact a local dealer.
After our call concluded, I was about to give up, so I started looking at the plans AT&T MVNOs offer. I went to Cricket, and it wanted the IMEI. by using #*06#
I forgot this thing has two. What I noticed is that the IMEI that appears when I go to *#*#4636#* phone information is IMEI2. IMEI1 is what PP has in their system for me. I can't put the CDMA SIM in slot 2
Another weird thing is after I went to #*06#, looking back through *#*#4736#* changes the IMEI correctly to IMEI1. I still don't get a signal. Now I'm getting No Signal with the T-Mobile SIM installed. I think I need to go mountain climbing to get this set.

Hey Paul,
ZTE does seem to have de-stabilized the radio for me as well on B35. Oddly enough though, the Verizon SIM I have in slot 1 seemed to work ok...it was the MintSIM in slot 2 that seemed to be an issue, as it was barred from LTE (and showed 'No Service' unless I manually switched to WCDMA/GSM in the network settings) when switching from SIM 1 to SIM 2 for data and also after reboots when it was the data SIM. EDGE service seemed to work, but only when data was on Verizon or if I disabled LTE on SIM 2 if MintSIM was the data SIM.
It seems that with two GSM SIMs there wasn't as much of a problem...so this does seem to be related to CDMA in slot 1.
I fixed it (I hope...fingers crossed...seems to work better at least for now) by restoring the modem partition from my B32 backup in TWRP but keeping all other partitions in place from the B35 update. So basically I'm on the B32 modem firmware with the B35 system and boot and stuff. Of course, I know that may not be an option for you if you're not rooted but if you do happen to have TWRP and a B32 backup it may be worth trying. Good luck...I definitely agree there's some issue with what ZTE did in B35...CDMA has been affected adversely it seems...and all the typical magic tricks (i.e., using a GSM SIM, booting with no SIM, etc.) didn't seem to bring about a lasting solution either, though I didn't spend too much time on it before I opted to just do a restore to B32...

I've been looking for some help with my phone. Ive had a perfectly working axon 7 on verizon (mvno total wireless) for like 2 years with full volte and all the rest. Works perfect. Now I had an issue ewith the display on that phone and got a replacement shipped out and now even after spending a solid week figuring out exacly how to copy my setup I cant get volte or any voice service at all. Here is what I did.
I'm on RR 6.0.0-20180511, hellsgate 3.18.109, ver 2.3 & baseband TH.2.0.c1.9-. This the old phone and the new one I copied everything over to it exactly as it is except a made a few minor changes. Those are: switching to f2fs data and cache partitions for speed, updating the bootstack to a new B10-B32 version i found and thats it. Modem, twrp version and everything else is the same. So the question is could the bootstack be the issue. Now I also noticed one very odd issue. My IMEI do not match the back of the phone after putting in the sim card but why? This is really odd, it seems that changes the IMEI but how? It still has 2 IMEI and they both start with a 990 number instead of the 861 for the first imei that they usually do. Is there something to that?
