Picked up my Vibrant on launch day and it's been great through the weekend, now about an hour ago the home key seems to be flaking out on me. The other three keys are still as responsive as ever, but I have to hold my thumb perfectly still for about 5 seconds before it registers, if at all. Is anyone seeing issues like this on their Galaxy? Or on similar hardware?
Dosent seem to be anything physically interfering, and no there were not any drops, falls or accidental sittings. I'll swing into a tmo store tomorrow, but figured I check in with you folks until then.
Doesn't happen on mine, probably defective device sadly .
Mines working great also... Sorry to hear
Thanks for the responses, unfortunately it looks like I'm not alone...

Tried restarting?
I did, a few times. Nothing.
I had the same problem. The home button would not respond to multiple touches, so I completely drained and charged the battery, now it works without any problems. I'm not sure if its fixed completely or just a temporary fix but so far so good.
Had the same exact problem! the next day after i got the phone i noticed that the home button would not work right, had to press it multiple times while the rest of the buttons seemed fine. I just went back to the store and replaced the phone. Everything seems to be working great now. I bet its a manufacturing screw up seeing how many people have the same issue. I would just replaced the phone and hope your next one doesnt eat sh*t
Any updates on this? I didn't have the problem until today, now my home key only works when not lit up. So if the keys are lit up and I want to use it I have to wait for the phone to go idle after a second and then hit it... I will call radio shack tomorrow and see if I can do an in-store return or since I ordered it online if I will have to mail it back, I will call the one far away so I can see if I just show up in store and fail to tell them I ordered it online if they will just do a swap for me there, and I can try that at tmobile as well... it's a 1 for 1 trade off so they aren't losing out (on much)...
I have the same issue. Sometimes it goes away but it always come back, even after factory reset. It seems like a shoddy manufacturing process. Just be glad you aren't a t-mobile employee as I have to ship it back before getting a replacement for the broken phone they sold me.
Sorry for reviving such an old post, but I stumbled on a solution of sorts to this issue of unresponsive capacitive buttons which I can reproduce 100% of the time.
This sounds silly, but I noticed the last week that whenever my home button decides to flake out on me switching live wallpapers brings it back to life. The button will then function perfectly for anywhere from a few hours to a few days, flake out again and then be brought back by a live wallpaper switch. No reseting, or changing of settings beyond the LW.
I just wanted to throw this out there, if only because many were guessing this seemingly common problem was a hardare issue and in my experience it's looking to be very much a software issue. Now I just have to figure out what's killing the button in the first place.
paxton, I tried your solution but it doesn't seem to do anything for me. I'm still at a loss.
I called Tmobile but tech service wants me to ship my phone back to them phone at my own cost. They forwarded me back to customer service when I refused. Anyone else having problems dealing with TMO? I'm worried that if I return the phone using buyer's remorse, I'll lose my Bing cash back.
i kinda had the same problem, just all buttons didnt seem so sensetive. So I removed my zag for reasons of it being sticky feeling during games like nova. Now my buttons respond so well. Thats how they should be...
i ONLY have this issue when i have a live wallpaper and also when the lights of the buttons are on, as soon as they time out i can press the home button and it will work

I had the same problem... Removing the screen protector seemed to fix all issues. Oddly enough, it was only my home button that was having poor responsiveness.
Now first let me start of by apologizing to anyone who has had a good experience with The Lenovo TouchPad, or anyone who dose not want to here anything negative about the product, because what is to follows may sound like a horor story. (Sorry for the length)
I purchased the Lenovo Touch Pad 16gb, with pressure sensitive digitizer, and folio case (the one without the keyboard). I dont remember the exact dates but i ordered the above products (directly from the Lenovo website) at the start of September. I received the folio case in about a week and was supper excited. The case seemed on par with what i would expect, nothing to rave over but at the same time nothing to complain about. Upon receiving the case i checked online to see when i could expect the remainder of my order. To my surprise the estimated delivery date was late into October. Thinking something went wrong with the order i called the Lenovo sails department....several times. i was reassured that the date provided was a worst case scenario and i would receive an email conformation that my product had been shipped "any day now." The email never came until the last week of October, thankfully i received my tablet in a couple of days after.
I received my tablet on a thursday and spent the day setting it up with my personal preferences (as i have used several android products). The very first realization i had was the pen added absolutely nothing to the user experience. The note application that comes with the tablet is nice to show off but is virtually useless in every sense. I tried, at the time, every handwriting method of input and note taking application that i could find on the market. Needless to say nothing worked as i was hoping they would.
After setting up the tablet i let it charge on the factory charger from about 4pm to about 9am. I was a little shocked in the morning when grabbing it to test it out in the first day of class that the battery was only at about 70% charged. despite what i mentioned above about the note applications, the tablet performed as well as any tablet would have, I was able to browse the web, read the pdf copies of my books, send emails, etc. but as an engineering student i was hoping to get a little more use out of the pen then i actually did.
Saturday night i had some time to test out its media playback ability. i found some tv shows that i wanted to catch up online and decided my newly purchased tablet would be perfect for the job. upon starting the video stream (that the tablet had to struggle to finally load) i realized there was no sound being emitted from the speakers. I grabbed a pair of earphones and plugged them in only to find the sound coming from the earphones loud and clear. Thinking i missed a setting somewhere i checked and rechecked the system, adjusted the volume rocker up and down, tried everything i could think of, before trying the standard.....restarting the tablet. upon the restart i downloaded an audio test track to the tablet and found it would play from the one speaker on the bottom (landscape) of the tablet. confused, i chalked it up to a bug in Honeycomb. but after 20 mins of streaming my tv shows, while straining to hear what was being said, with the volume maxed out, all sound again cut out. again restarting the tablet seemed to solve the problem for a few minutes. over the course of the next couple days i came to the realization that the speaker did not work more often then it did. (i did find fix, to push down on the screen bezel above the speaker).
Sunday brought on a new issue, i could not get the screen to stay on/ turn on. after finally getting the device to stay on for more than 0.05 seconds i managed to turn all screen timeout settings off, that way the tablet would never sleep. but it did not matter, the screen would shut its self off. the wake/sleep button would often be unresponsive, if the screen would ever turn on i was not able to get past the lock screen. not being able to turn the tablet on long enough to restart it i was left with no other option than to sit the tablet on the shelf until the screen decided to light back up (normally around 4am). completely annoyed by the entire device i called tech support. Their answer, boot into a stock recovery menu and perform a factory reset....didn't solve anything (i was not expecting it to). after 3 more days of use i again called the dreaded Lenovo tech support and after several hours of arguing i managed to convince the technician that the device would need servicing.
A box arrived the next morning for me to place my tablet in and mail to a certified reapair facility. After 3 weeks of no word and no progress (as i was tracking the repair status online) i again called Lenovo. who after several hours of being transfered all over the company gave me a number to call the repair facility. I then managed to get the tablet put back together and mailed back to me so i could return it to Lenovo.
Then i had to arrange a return with Lenovo which took in total 9 hours of phone calls and arguing, as my 30 day full refund window had expired. Eventually i persuaded them to wave the restocking fee and give me a full refund on my order. the next day i shipped everything back, and was glad the entire ordeal was over....it was not over until last week when i finally received a credit on my credit card for the full purchase amount. I had already arranged with my credit card company that if a refund was not received by the first of the year that my credit card company would fully refund my purchase and open a case against Lenovo.
Wrap Up.
I had the device for a total of 7 days. in that time i became dissatisfied with every thing about the device, (other than the folio case). The screen was washed out and faded, the speaker was weak, the tablet struggled to open the app drawer with the addition of maybe 10 apps that did not come with the tablet, the pen was useless in every way imaginable, the sd card slot and full size usb which despite trying to use many times, I never was able to get working. The only pros i have for the device, is the back did not attract fingerprints, the slot for the pen worked great, the rotation lock button was a nice feature but the remainder of the buttons were only an annoyance. However there was no indication that the rotation had been locked and i found myself rotating my tablet and nothing happening. Thinking i had the rotation locked i would push the designated button, only to then lock the rotation, the device was sooooo slow i could not tell if the screen orientation was locked or if the tablet was still trying to rotate the screen. One last note: as being a personal device i never used the security features the Lenovo included for businesses, but all in all i had an absolutely terrible experience.
I've been really lucky and haven't had any of the issues that most users are reporting on in other forums.
It's strange, 4 of us bought 16GB/3G units at same time. I've never had an issue. One of the other guys had issues even running the applications that came preinstalled on the Tablet. A complete system reset seemed to fix all his issues.
Bugger it didn't work for you
you dont happen to have the IMEI number?
low chances... but just in case... if you could publish the last 4-5 figures of it?!
that tablet of yours is going to go back into circulations, and there will be someone else frustrated with it... it'll help if part of the IMEI number is out there warning people of this fugitive of the QA department
seems the QA department was kinda spotty on these 1838's...
some people report no problems at all... some cry a river.
(I hope mine, coming this weekend, will be alright)
I picked up my Nexus 7 about a half hour ago, woke it up and all of the sudden it started clicking things on its own. I wasn't even touching the screen at all. I had to lock the device for it to stop doing it, and after waking it back up the touchscreen was twonky. I would touch, but it wouldn't register until like the 3rd click. I restarted the device and its fine again.
I have the screen separation issue, though its not bad and doesnt bother me so I havent considered sending it back. But now that it has a mind of its own, its kind of freaking me out. I am unable to replicate it so far and I can't find anybody on these forums who has the same problem. Any ideas what is going on?

So it's a hardware issue and I should get it replaced?
I had the same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago.
After waking it up from sleep it started touching itself.
I restarted the device and it hasn't happened since.
Hope I don't have to return it.

I had the same thing happen on Saturday. There were odd solid white line outlines around the icons as well. I had to force it to power off and restart it. It's been okay since.
Ken
I too experienced the issue. I can replicate the issue by running "Gallery" app, select an album, set it on Slide Show mode. Within 15 mins or so, it will start malfunctioning.
I've discovered how to reproduce the problem on my tablet:
1. Put the tablet to sleep by closing smart cover or using a magnet
2. Plug in wall charger
3. Open the smart cover and the touchscreen malfunctions
The screen does not malfunction when I put the device to sleep by pressing the power button and insert the charger.
Can anyone else confirm this happens to them or is it just me?
My nexus7 is controlling itself after 10 mins of playing a game... this is nuts?
EDIT:
Really PI$$ED off now. Travelled to the shop where I bought it. Told them they said "they have to see the problem" I sit there for 25 minutes playing a game, google earth...anything to create this problem.
NOTHING.
get back home!! gusss what? stupid tablet is controlling itself again! OMG this crap is annoying.
edit: I sold the nexus. It had a fault on the screen. I paid £70 and managed to get £80 for it so am happy with that at least
Same issue!! Is someone remotely hacking in??
I have seen the exact same issue on mine. Weird and very worrying. Have seen apps being opened and pages being scrolled. Has only happened twice in the past few weeks (that I have noticed). Have checked firewall logs on my home network, but unfortunately my ISP has made the UI more 'user friendly' even in advance mode so can't get any actually useful information from the logs (though I don't have any port forwarding active). My only guess is that it is therefore:
A) Random HW/SW issue - seems unlikely, but possible I guess
B) Some nefarious app giving external access (all apps from Play Store though)
Will try and get a video of it next time to put on Youtube nad have installed the logcat app (though to be honest I don't really know how to use it).
Anyone else seen this or have any suggestions on what to do?

May I ask. Have you used a case that has a magnet that may have touched the screen? I theorized that this may have happened to mine because right where the magnet clipped the case is right where fault started. When i touched the screen just on the edge in that spot it started going crazy.
So I sold as faulty

Hi - I have briefly (only use it when travelling and have it in a bag to protect it from knocks and scrapes), but the case was never around when the screen has been off doing it's own thing....so I would be surprised if there was a link between a small magnet being near it a few times and a recurrent fault of some kind.

I read somebody else used a case with a magnet and thought that slight chance that it could've caused the fault. I know on the one I had I could instantly recreate the problem by touching in that place a few times. perhaps just a coincidence?

My device has a similar issue randomly. Detects inputs that aren't there. Most of the time it is one prolonged input. Sleep then wake and problem solved. I don't know if I have the screen seperation issue or not. My device is only two weeks old and has never seen a magnet before.

Bought 4 Nexus 7's for the family for Christmas and one unit had this issue. Read up about it before returning it the next day. Apparently it's a problem with the digitizer (I think that was what the hardware piece was called). Basically made the N7 unusable because it'd detect other "ghost" touches. Especially annoying when trying to unlock the device. Long story short, the unit was returned to Staples and replaced with a new one. So if you're is still under the "new buy" warranty I'd definitely try for a replacement.

Ditto, + 1 here and my ex-N7 16GB WiFi unit was from local Staples, 1 of 2 "open-box" ones that they had in stock, no wonder manager was "kind" enough to approve a 10% discount for it, hmmm - SOB quite possibly knew it was a problem unit returned by another customer & just wanted to pass it on. It had 4.1.2 loaded and intially, the OTA upgrade to 4.2 seemed to make things better (false.)
It was horrible with the sluggish & un-responsive touchscreen and even unlocking, especially bad over time as I had managed to unlock the bootloader & root it to load custom Rom. It's as if the hardware had a keylogger installed and/or was hacked remotely, trying to take over the tablet and typing its own command as I input gmail account info & password - freaking mad crazy, to the point as others said, I started checking the wireless router's firewall & security logs, etc. for signs of breach, etc. and even release the DHCP to get a new external IP on our Fios link. Disabling WiFi seemed to at least "calm" it down but made the device useless. GPS radio/receiver also seemed to be defective. To make a long story short, it has been returned to Staple as we are within the holidays/14 days technology product return & exchange timeframe - and, of course, all 16GB WiFi models are out of stock everywhere - ended up paying the difference & traded up to a 32GB WiFi model - S/N beginning with "CAO"s and has 4.1.2 on it
Noticed the immediate difference - this one is perfect and no hardware issues whatsoever - and so far so good and with all the issues cited about 4.2 - staying with 4.1.2 for now by disabling the fraemwork, etc. to stop the annoying OTA upgrade reminder. Unlocked & rooted, tweaked it with the goodies & Flash Player 11.x loaded with Chrome browser removed, this is what a N7 should be like.
I have had a similar issue twice. I was reading a webpage when all of a sudden a pop up appears asking where I want to send it to, then it gives me a list eg. Dropbox , email, etc. I never press anything and I didn't even know what wanted to be sent lol. Hopefully its nothing serious.

mine does it to all the time especially if i slightly squeeze the bezel? i get random touches all over the screen?
Hey y'all,
Picked up a SM-N935L a few weeks ago. Last week, for no reason I can think of, the touchscreen started causing problems.
As of now, a 1 inch swath of the screen on left side doesn't respond to touches unless they are long touches. This is annoying on the homescreen, but IMPOSSIBLE when trying to type on the keyboard as the number key, shift, A, Q, and 1 key barely ever respond to touch.
AT first it was intermittent. Now it's permanent.
The S-Pen works perfectly, even in the affected area of the screen.
I tried flashing the original firmware the phone came with before the OTA, no dice.
Long story short, the phone is now back in it's box and I am back to my old n9005 Note 3.
Has anyone else run into this?
Before someone says that maybe the screen connector is loose on the motherboard, I cracked the phone open (heatgun, etc) and checked that. Not the issue.
I even tried the secret code *#6233*# which allows you to "update" the touchscreen firmware. No difference.
Any thoughts?
you didn't mention the software version you're using.... did you update to the latest OTA for the L version of the Note FE? Google Translation change log

Try *#2663#, which will update the TS firmware. Used this recently to correct a touch screen reversal (which was a weird experience at first).

Sorry. That's the code I used, not 2633. It didn't help at all.
Have you installed any apps that control screen brightness, remove the brightness slider from quick settings? If yes, uninstall and see if that fixes the issue.
Very late to the party but I'm having the same issue. Tried everything and no luck. The left side of screen not responding unless I use the pen. Stock OS no extra apps installed. Gutted.
I also have this problem..after one month use..right side screen doesnt respon..
Im runing on ARA1 firmware
hi pro, did you fix it, i have same issue
I had the right edge screen problem too. You can use *#0*# to test. Select touch to start the test.
Press 'volume up' button once done.
My problem on the right side and only not responsive to touch only. S pen works fine though.
I went to samsung and they said they had replaced the screen. And it works ! So guys, maybe it's really a hardware problem with the display screen.
Now after 2 month, the problem had resurfaced
I really like this phone and my note 4 previously was great and not having any hard problem.
I'm going to send this again to samsung for repair since it's still under warranty. Hope the problem will diasppear and not repeating again once we warranty expires.
Hello, i am having the same problem. It started about a week ago when the left side of my phone became unresponsive to touch. I have to long press the left side of the screen to register my touch. I tried the "Touch" test at *#0*# and the left side cant be touched. Now the lower and right side of the screen became unresponsive too. Anyone knows how to fix? Using Android 8.0.0 on this Samsung Galaxy note FE
exactly happen to me too...
went to samsung center and replace the screen, under warranty

Hi
the same issue started happening to my Note FE yesterday.
have you found a way to fix it? or have you returned the product?
BAD NEWS everyone
Hey y'all,
So I have bad news for you.
The problem is hardware not software. I ended up giving my dad the phone when he went on a business trip to Hong Kong. He's got a guy there that owes me a favor or two so he got the screen replaced. That fixed it immediately.
Sorry for not updating you guys. I ended up just picking up a brand new Note8 back in Nov when I had enough of the touchscreen thing. When my dad finally brought me the FE back with the new screen it worked perfectly.
No software changes at all. Just replaced the screen.
Hi !I am having the same problem here with the right side of the screen.
First it started when the right side started to be less sensitive but then after a while it suddenly stopped working for the touch. The S Pen works ok.
Its really terrible to use it like this. At least if there was an option to squeeze the screen. Where did you guys bought the phone? I am in Europe but i think the company imported it from Saudi Arabia. Dont know if its a regional issue but i am courious. I tried clearing the cache and updating the touch but no difference. Haven`t tried factory reset yet....

I have been using it for about 3 months before it first started to lose its sensitivity and then to not function at all on a 1 cm wide area on the right side. I havent dropped it for this to be an issue and since i already seen other people complaining its definately a manufacturing issue. I have sent it to the service and hope to have an answer and i will update here about it.

Hello, do you know if your phone was imported from Saudi Arabia? It might be a problem with the phones for this market.
Thanks all for your reply. Really its very scary, just brought a new one from Saudi Arabia, where made in Vietnam. Sometimes I feel some lag with back button . But I dont think its common defect, I heard about same problem in Note 8. Those screen curves brought troubles to all of us ,
I installed tempered glass screen protector but it didn't cover the whole screen , anyway I preferred it rather than the normal elastic one.
Exactly the same issue on my FE
Nope. It happened to me as well just this morning. It is exactly as you've described. I did a factory reset but the issue still persists.

Have you un-paired then re-paired the controller? Which o.s are you running? Does your remote have the "latch" to hold battery cover on, or the original 2019 remote without the slide lock? 1st unit i bought had remote without latch....stopped working intermittently after about 5 or 6 months, replaced with newer version and has been fine since.

thanks for replying.
the control is the original that came when I bought it. i'm not sure if the problem is in the control because I also have another one that works in the box, and sometimes the box does not answer it too, so I think what hangs is the box, and not necessarily the control.

Then next I'd say check/clean the vent on frontside (bottom)...i didn't check mine for nearly a year, only checked the back vent because i forgot there was the intake upfront.
Anyway it was clogged pretty good, won't be forgetting to clean there.
