Bluetooth paired devices gone, now won't find any - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

My almost 2 year old stock G4 XT1625 is running android 7.0 and has recently decided to have no Bluetooth connectivity.
I last used it maybe 3 weeks ago and all was fine. Now all my previously paired devices (3) are not listed, and the phone will not detect any of them when I try to pair.
So far I tried restarting 2x, then booted into safe mode, which should disable all non system apps, still won't detect anything. I saw a while back that there might have been some issue after 7.0 update on the G4's, but I've had no issues til very recently. A solution for the previously mentioned problem seemed to be to reset app preferences, but I think booting to safe mode should have the same temporary affect and should rule out recently installed apps.
Any other things to try to regain Bluetooth connectivity?
If the bluetooth has actually gone bad I can still get the phone warrantied thru my VISA card I purchased it with at WalMart, but I've only got til March 10th to do that. That would be a WAAAY easier warranty claim than dealing with Motorola. I'd have to take it to a local repair shop and get documentation that it's defective, which might cost $30-40, but if I get the warranty claim paid I'd get the $179 back I paid for it.

Well more confounding information to relate. I tried searching for devices again today, and it discovered a Sylvania SP353 portable speaker. Problem is there is no such device in my house!! I did get it to connect/pair to my old Moto X2, a Maxell soundbar for my TV, and another portable speaker(after several attempts). It still will not connect to my Chromebook or the earpiece as it did before. Strangely the earpiece will no longer connect to anything, 2 other phones or the Chromebook. I suppose the earpiece could have gone bad, but that doesn't account the other failures to connect.

I tried a network settings reset, but it changed nothing. I forgot to mention that previously, and just now, the phone detected a mystery device identified only by a MAC address, but would not connect/pair. There were no known devices on at the time

New XDAIIi user a little disheartened

Hi, this is my first post to these forums, although I did spend a couple of hours browsing after finding them last night.
Having played with my wife's month old Mio168/TomTom5 and loved it, I decided that when my CPW/o2 contract was up I'd go for a pda/phone rather than the SE K750i I had previously been planning on.
I did just a little research and went for the XDAIIi over the MDAIII (don't like T-Mobile's pricing!) and XDAIIs (no wi-fi, slower and unnecessary keyboard).
I initially thought I had a great unit but things haven't been as smooth as I expected.
http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk supplied me with a Holux combined GPS receiver/cradle, Kingston 512MB SD card and screen protector at very reasonable prices and with swift delivery.
First thing I noticed was that whenever the phone utility was brought on-screen, it showed me that my last caller was the very first person I had phoned on it. After any call, the same info would pop back to the display, too.
Another little thing that surprised me was the SIM code entry. I have set an 8 digit code. When I enter the first number it appears on the display as an asterisk but when I hit the second, the first two numbers appear (the asterisk changes to the digit). Is this normal or a quirk of having '08' as the first two digits of my code?
TomTom5 installed fine but kept randomly freezing (whenever a call or txt msg came in it was certain to happen) so I contacted o2 Customer Support who told me to take it back to be checked out.
Three days after installing the card (and before I had taken the unit for its o2 'inspection') the SD card suddenly 'disappeared'. Actually, it's shot; it isn't recognised by my XDAIIi, my work supervisor's XDAIIi, my wife's Mio168 or my computer's USB card reader. I researched this a little and found it a fairly common occurence but the only recommendation seems to be to format it. HELLO? How does one format something that no equipment recognises? Fools!
Actually, while googling the SD card problem I found people recommending the removal of o2 Active to cure TomTom lockups. o2 Tech-Supp were very helpful with this - instructing me how to hard reset and install 'corporate' using the 0506 password. This appears to have cured almost all TomTom problems although I need more than the old 128MB MM card I currently have for storage!
This also fixed the 'last call' bug I'd been experiencing.
Having found this marvellous forum, I set about finding info for the XDAIIi and promptly discovered that the wikki bears little specifically for it. I would update it but don't know enough yet!
I did read a post last night that pointed out to a user that the cradle charges the battery from just the USB port, and not requiring the AC supply so I decided to check it out. Sure enough, the battery is shown as 'charging' but after leaving it overnight, I find that the charge has actually dropped to 87% (still says 'charging', too) from the 95% I left it on.
Perhaps I have a faulty cradle.
It also seems a little odd to me that I can use mp3s for ringtones but can only use wav files for the alarm!
Is there a way to stop the wi-fi 'do you want to connect' popup appearing when TomTom is running other than disabling wi-fi before running it? It's a right pain having TT freeze until I get rid ot the popup.
One other little thing - anyone know how I can ensure that GPRS isn't going to be used for web surfing? I don't want it to be activated accidentally and certainly don't want to go surfing on it for an hour thinking I'm using wi-fi!
Don't get me wrong - overall I'm still happy with the XDAIIi (look -> ) but there's just a few doubts as to whether I went the right way creeping in.
Hi there, im pretty much a "new" user of the XDA 2i aswell but have learnt alot from using this forum.
I have almost the same setup as you now as far as the "corporate" install, TomTom5 etc etc .... but i have updated the ROM on mine to the latest Imate version, which you can find in one of these forums , its called PDA 2K ROM streight from I-MATE or something along them lines.
I would recommend that you update also as it fixed a few problems was having with lockups, but make sure to do alot of research before you attempt it cos you dont want to knacker it up
Anyway .... my cradle charges fine just using the USB (no AC adapter)
Passord thing .... this has came up before , it for some reason displays the digits when the numbers 08 are first , i seem to remember it being something to do with emergancy calling features, although i didnt think that they started with "08" but there ya go
GPRS ... will only activate when you cannot get a Wireless signal, the hirachy is WiFi then GPRS, but to be on the safe side i removed all the setting configurations for the GPRS so it can never connect, i never use it anyway.
Im not sure about the "Do you want to connect" popup you get when running TomTom as it doesnt happen to me , perhaps you have wireless enabled all the time, id tun it off to save your batteries anyway.
well .... i think ive covered a few of the things your asking as good as i can, best of luck with it
Thanks for the reply, Danny.
I haven't had any TomTom problems since 'going corporate' so I'll wait and see how it goes before trying another ROM - taking warranty into consideration too.
Mind you, I haven't received any calls or texts while running TT either so all may not be as it seems.
Hmm. I'm plugged into a 4-port USB hub that came with an external power supply I don't use, so I wonder if that makes a difference. I'll have to pull out the base unit and plug the cradle in there to check charging on that.
I've double checked that I have no settings for GPRS so unless o2 'push' them to me I should be OK.
Yes, I do have wi-fi on all the time and the battery still lasts all the work day with a little usage when time permits. My cradle/GPS receiver charges the pda when it's in there on the way to/from work, so I don't really have to worry about that.
I'd just like to not be bothered by the connection dialogue box rather than have to turn off wi-fi for navigation purposes... have you seen how many networks are open out there? Not just the city centre ones, there are loads of not-very-secure company and household networks that can be connected to and utilised. Free broadband internet - almost makes you want to get a laptop!
the computer to which the cradle is connected via USB must be turned ON, or else there will be no current passing through the cable. Thus, no charging the PDA. The Ipods have the same "handycap". You can always use the AC power adapter...

Quite true, but my charging test was performed while the computer was on and defragmenting my 5 partitions.
Actually, my Soltek motherboard has 'hot' USB ports at the rear that still supply a little 'juice' when the power is off - my USB hub, BT dongle and Intellimouse 4 stay alight when the main machine is off, although I've not bothered to check exactly how much voltage is supplied.

USB connection charges but that's all it does.

I've got a blackstone with an Energy Rom and 1.17 radio. This week I wanted to upgrade my ROM. Everytime I do that I make sure al my data ( contacts and calendar ) are properly synced. But this time when I connected the device to my Windows 7 pc,which charges just fine, nothing popped up. So my heart kind of skipped a beat (using HTC cable and two other micro-USB cables) Than I tried connecting it to my Windows XP (Flashing/Backup) PC in bootloader and noticed Serial isn't changing to USB anymore... But still it charges just fine..
What's wrong? And what can I do? Is this hardware failure or is it still possible a hard reset will do anything to fix this? (haven't tried yet, afraid of losing my unsynced data, and have never used PIM backup yet)
Please, some advice!
Thanks in advance,
Hugo
This isn't good news...but i think your phone has a hardware failure.
I bought a second hand HD last week which would only charge via usb but wouldn't sync. I tried a number of different cables and pc's but no joy.
I have since returned the faulty one and bought another one which syncs no problem on all the pc's i tried previously and with all cables, both genuine and oem.
I actually had that issue too, I just kept on trying. Gave the device a soft reset, rebooted the machine. Then I tried to flash the rom and all was ok.
Chance I can get it repaired without getting the costs?
I've got a phone insurance and it's within the warranty period.
Spank me on the arse and call me Charley.
It's syncing right now!
Thanks for the help you two
Glad you got it sorted

Nexus 7 can pair but won't connect with BT

I had originally paired my Nexus 7 with my DHD such that they were paired with BT, and at any time I can connect to the DHD from the Nexus and I would have internet access on the tablet.
On the DHD, in addition to the blue BT icon, I would also have a BT tethering notification on the top left of the status bar.
This morning, all that changed – for seemingly no reason.
I could connect fine, but the BT tethering icon was not there on the DHD. The tablet would connect, but it reported that the internet connection was not available.
I tried unpairing and pairing, and rebooting both devices.
Since then, the problem has significantly worsened.
I can still see and pair both devices fine. The pairing code comes up on both devices and I am able to confirm that the codes match and the pairing appears to work. That's where my success ends. I tap on the device to connect, and it says "connecting..." for a few seconds, and then returns to the original, unconnected state. If I touch the device again to connect, it will not only flash up for a fraction of a second "connecting..." and revert back.
This happens regardless if I try to connect to the tablet from the phone, or vice versa.
I figured the BT stack must have been corrupted somehow on one of the 2 devices, so I tried pairing the tablet and phone to my dad's Galaxy Nexus and also his Nexus 7. I can pair anything to anything, but can't connect from anything to anything.
I am rooted on both my devices, but neither of his.
I tried the program "Bluetooth fix repair" from play store, which requires root access, which claims to fix some bluetooth problems. I tried it on both the tablet and phone. After a restart, I notice it has reset my bluetooth settings like the device name, etc. It didn't fix the problem. I can still pair the tablet to the phone, but can't connect.
Any ideas what may have happened and how I can fix it?
Tablet is running stock jellybean with root, and phone is running AOSPx BR3 from XDA.
I've run into the same issues! Trying to connect my GN to my N7 over BT shows that they pair, showing the same PIN, but won't connect. Previously, I could connect my GN to my Xoom but no longer.
I've flashed back to stock on both devices (I'll do so later on the Xoom) to eliminate as many variables as possible, and I'm still getting a connection. GN is now back to IMM76K and N7 is running JRO03D, only change is supersu on both. They connect perfectly fine to my laptop but will not connect to each other. I noticed that some people got good results by turning off WiFi but that didn't help me at all. I know BT worked on my GN because I could connect to 2 different BT units in 2 different cars.
Some people are going to ask why not use Wifi. Well, I have poor reception at home and I'd like to retain internet connection on both while using Tablet Talk (which I have yet to be able to use...).
I'm tethering via bluetooth as well. Its frustrating that when I walk away with my phone, the tablet will not auto-connect via bluetooth. I have to go back and connect the two.

I can confirm I'm having the same issue. Only way to repair is to do a full device wipe. Power on / off doesnt seem to correct.
Confirmed this is the case iwth my N7 and Galaxy Nexus Stock Rooted and CM9 Galaxy Note.
BTW reason people want to do this is because BT tethering has very low battery life cost particularly compared to wifi tethering which will flatten a galaxy nexus in ~3 hrs.
Love to hear if anyone else found a fix for this!
Try This
I had the same issue. I went into the more settings on my phone for Wireless & Networks/Tethering & portable hotspots. Make sure the bluetooth tethering is checked. After i did this i had no issues using my phone internet through BT. I have a T989 running CM9 RC2. My N7 is rooted running the stock rom. Hope this helps.

I can confirm I was having the exact same problem as everyone else and this fixed it for me. The only other thing I had to do was connect FROM the Nexus, not the phone (an HTC Sensation). Trying to connect from the phone was a no-go. Thanks!
I cant pair my Nexus 7 with my Sony Ericsson MW600 bluetooth headset.

New Dell Inspiron 15Z does not have HDMI output

My GF recently got the new Del Inspiron 15z ultrabook with touch display. Gorgeous piece of engineering and it's pretty nice from what I've experienced with it so far.
I decided to mirror it's display to the TV (1080p) using HDMI, like I always have with my own laptop. So I simply plugged the HDMI cable into the TV's input, and then the other end of the HDMI cable into the 15z's HDMI output. Nothing happened! No video or audio. I did the exact same thing with my own laptop on the same TV, and it worked fine.
I proceeded to call Dell support, who said I needed additional software. The guy wanted to direct me to tech support, and then told me that tehre would be charges made for the tech support. This is a NEW laptop we just purchased 2 weeks ago... the guy on the phone basically gave me an unsatisfactory response.
What am I doing wrong? I googled the problem, and a VAST number of people had this problem. Couldn't pin point a solution, but I found something that says I need to press FN+F8 to activate the HDMI port... never heard of that before. The thing I read is here http://techtips.salon.com/use-hdmi-slot-dell-laptop-548.html
Somebody please shed some light on this! I don't want to send the laptop back and be out a laptop for 2 weeks when school just started again!
OK... it seems I've been griping about people turning Dev&Hacking/General into a tech-support forum a lot, lately, but come on... this isn't even Win8-specific! Aren't there Dell-specific forums you could be asking this on? Or support people you could call/email/chat with/whatever other than the one you talked to already? You could also try the Setup utility in the BIOS/EFI (sometimes this is only accessible from the booted PC, in which case you'll need software that can be downloaded off Dell's site). Beyond that, if plugging the HDMI connection in and pressing Win+P doesn't work, take the thing back as defective and buy something that isn't a consumer-grade Dell (their Latitude line is good, and Vostro is OK, but Inspiron has a well-earned reputation for poor quality, and even their Latitude line has had some serious problems in the past. They just cut too many corners on price.)
EDIT: WIN+P, not CTRL+P
As GDTD said, bit random mate!? Its also very common to have to push buttons to enable it, very often this is the case with dual display hybrid devices but I've seen it on lots of things, another tripping point is HDCP hand shake, sometimes you have to have devices turned on and plugged in, in a certain order, a common one is to ensure the tv is powered off before pluging in and turned on. Another one is your laptop drivers, have you used manufacture specific ones? Or did you update to genuine amd,NVIDIA, Intel etc ones ? Sometimes, as nice as it is to use up to date drivers, they may not work, laptops etc frequently use customized drivers

Regarding the comment about the forum and tech support: this is the general section, where questions are frequently asked. Even if you go the general section of specific devices, people ask questions (arguably considered "tech" questions) there as well. And regarding if this is Windows 8 specific, how would I have known if it's WIndows 8 specific. This is the first W8 laptop I've handled, and all other W7 laptops I've used in the past do not exhibit this problem. From the average joe's perspective, the only thing that's changed is the OS for my situation.
dazza9075: I assume the specific driver is what the Dell customer support guy was referring to. I'm using this laptop straight out of the box with no software installed aside from what it came with.
GoodDayToDie: I'll give the CTRL + P thing a go. If I get no luck for the next week, I might have to return it. Thanks for the input.
WIN+P, not CTRL+P, not sure what I was thinking. It's the standard Windows shortcut to control external display modes.

bluetooth dead?

so my wife went to use one of the nexus players and the remote wouldnt connect, pushed the button on bottom and it would search, but never connect, tried new batteries, still nothing. tried other remotes (we have 3 NPs) nothing.
did a factory data/reset. cannot get passed the setup screen because it wont see the remotes. got the factory image and ran the .bat file and reset 100% stock. still no connection. if we leave it scanning long enough it comes up with "bluetooth has failed" or "bluetooth connection force closed" im sorry i cant recall the exact wording as last i messed with it was 2 weeks ago.
we've already replaced the player with another one, but i'd hate to toss this one out if its something i can fix in some way. does anyone have any ideas? is it possible the bluetooth chip is dead? I cannot recall if wifi was out to, but i want to say it was but i cant actually get into the OS to be able to double check.
since its back to factory image, then USB debugger is not enabled so im not sure if i can run ABD on it now, and im not sure how i would even connect a keyboard to it, ive tried a usb dongle cable thru the microusb port but either the cable is junk or it just couldnt recognize the keyboard or mouse.
We have 2 of these devices and the remotes stopped working and pairing with them around 7.0 or so.
Tried new batteries, swapping the remotes between devices with no luck.
Can still pair other devices like smartphones and controllers successfully, so it doesn't appear to be a Bluetooth stack issue...
Sent from my VS990 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
sadly mine wont pair with anything. remotes, controllers, smartphone. and it was on a custom ROM pure nexus for the last 6 months or so
