Backing up fingerprint data? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any known way to backup your fingerprint data to restore at a later time? Kind of annoying to have to remove your fingerprint to take a TWRP backup, just to set it up all over again when you restore it. I use 4 different fingerprints to unlock my 6T, and we know how long it takes to register a fingerprint on this device..... Thanks!

The answer is no.
The data is stored in an area that is oneway for the actual data.
The fingerprint data is stored in a secure element. When you check a fingerprint it is submitted to the secure element for a match or no match.
You can't pull the data out. If you could someone else could restore different data.

One way? That's crazy to me, that's cool! Thanks for the information man, I had no idea! Well alright, I'll continue to remove my fingerprint data and just re register them as usual.

Yep. you cannot read the data back.
That is part of the security protocol that makes it so secure.

Why do you have to remove your fingerprints to make a TWRP backup? I never have to do that...

Like, I remove my PIN so there's no security before taking a backup, so if I restore with it, I can get in. When I go back to re add my PIN, my fingerprint data is gone. Is it not supposed to do that? Because if not, that bums me out [emoji23]

[Q] Fingerprint doesn't recognise my fingerprint and forgot my password..

Long story short...i setup a fingerprint a few weeks back, didnt use it for a while and now I want to delete it.
Except now my phone refuses to recognise my fingerprint no matter which way i swipe it...
on top of that i'm retarded and forgot the alternate password too.
Is factory resetting the only way?
EDIT: Fingerprint is not set as my passcode, I just have it registered. My passcode is a separate PIN code.

Oh thanks, I don't mean I can't get into my phone.
I have a separate PIN code set as my passcode and I have a fingerprint that is registered that I want to delete, but to delete the fingerprint I need the alternate password, which i have forgotten lol. When I swipe it many times and it fails, it just asks me for the alternate password.

Only way I can think of is if you have a custom recovery installed enter it and factory reset or something.

Thanx
Update: I found this. But i dont know if this also removes the alternative password.. i just located my phone but i cant check anything else
cause im at work.. need my phone..
go online to android device manager log in with your google log in wait till it locates your phone u then click to lock your device it asks you for a new password. It over rides whatever password or lock feature u have on it. Then you get phone type the new password and boom problem solved.

Be advised--if you have registered fingerprints, perform a full/data Nandroid, and later restore, your fingerprints and alternate password may no longer work. The effect is the same as what the OP experienced. It seems like the only way to resolve the issue at this time is to reset.
This problem also affects the Note 4 and Edge. See thread here:

I am offering in the general Q/A forum $25 for anyone who comes up with a method to wipe/clear/delete the fingerprint registration when the registered fingerprints and alternate/backup passwords don't work.

A friend of mine is in real trouble. She bought her s5 for christmas and travelled. She took amazing photos and made National Geographic material videos, including of melting glaciers. when she was on a cruise for the new year, the phone locked her out due to the fingertip lock. The worse part: She wasn´t using it, when she got it from her coat pocket it was already locked. When she went to the Samsung store they told her to do a Hard Reset since the option to unblock with the google id wasn´t appearing. Before I found out that maybe she could´ve tried to unlock with samsumg lost my phone or google remote she did the reset and lost all her stuff. Tried 3 different recovery apps and all of them requires rooting. Not only we´re not confident enough, she wants to return it to Samsung and rooting voids the warranty. Is there any other way?
I even thought about taking the phone to a computer assistance to see if they can do something

Forgot my Pattern on my 6P.... now what?

Ok, i forgot my pattern lock.
and i am not prompting to any "forgotten pattern" option.
what should i do?
i prefer not to erase my device...
you have to be aware how fishy this is gonna look right?
yes...
i am currently at the Android Device manager, trying to lock and reset device device password without any help.
i cant find any option at my gmail account how to do it.
only wipe my phone?
as far as I know, yes. not 100%, but I mean... that's the point of the security
Factory reset is the way to go. If you can easily disable the pattern lock, and there's no point having it in the first place.

lock it with device manager, it will ask u what pin to lock it, unlock with that on phone
Use a factory reset in case you´ve forgotten the PIN or the Pattern. Even if I had a 100% answer for this problem, I´m not sure if this is something which has to be posted on any forum? What if somebody "snatches" a Nexus 6P and asks for help, how to get rid of the safety features? This is what makes these kind of questions at least very suspicious to me.
Seriously? You can't forget a fingerprint you know? This device got a fingerprint scanner in case you didn't realize.
not sure I buy the "not prompted for a forgotten apssword" option.
iirc, you have to have a PIN as a backup. Sooooo, ya
You need a pin backup for fingerprint, but not for pattern. The OP should contact Google support using her/his Google account. That's if this is genuine. Perhaps the community should contact Mishteret Yisra'el.

October firmware update [NMF26X.N950USQU2BQJA]

I received an OTA today. Like 377 MB.
It looks like a new bootloader as well. Didn't come with a change log, but below is the informative after the update. NMF26X.N950USQU2BQJA

Yes it is new bootloader. I expect this for around 2 weeks now. Seems like it is little harder to flash anything on this bootloader.

Yeah I'm installing it now myself.
Updated mine but facial recognition is now not working. Under settings, I see under Screen Lock Type I still have password, Face and Fingerprints as an option but "Face Recognition" is now grayed out. If I go into the Screen Lock Type setting, Face shows the switch to the right but that option is grayed out as well and can't be changed.

Might want to try going to lock screen and security settings then go to other security settings and clear credentials. I haven't had that same problem since I updated today so I haven't tried it on this phone but it worked on another Android device that I have when it greyed out Security Options.

What's changing: Network performance enhancements, stability improvements, other various updates and fixes, and Android device security updates, including KRACK Wi-Fi vulnerability fix and BlueBorne fix (on SPLs September 1 or later)
I'd say that the KRACK fix itself is a good reason to update.

Happened to me a few minutes ago. Don't do factory reset yet. Use ADB to uninstall the app created by substratum.

apparently all that does is clear your saved certificates. I have been able to disable face scan by turning on iris but that doesn't work so well with my glasses. Face recognition is my preference but I can't seem to get it to enable after update.

Shoot! I couldn't wait around anymore without my phone not working and did a factory reset through recovery.... UGH woke up was all restored and I forgot NOT to restore substratum and was back to system ui errors so here I go again restoring without substratum... I'm nervous to reinstall substratum again!

Anytime you do an OTA the Substratum app developers suggest uninstalling all of the themes. Nothing is broke on the device it's just causing an issue with seeing the home screen/settings.
This is also why using ADB to uninstall the layers would fix the issue.
Just for future reference for everyone.

Not working on mine
Do anybody have problem with making and receiving calls ? When I try to make call phone app drops in 1 sec. When someone try to call me they are forwarded to voice mail. I experience this on 2 of my Notes 8 after update.

Fingerprint reader does not work and Really low call volume.

Hello everyone, thank you for commenting on this publication.
Current place, Ecuador.
Phone purchased in amazon US.
Since 10/18/2018
No Root
Today I'm adapting to the phone, but when setting up the unlock with fingerprint reader it does not work, it does not detect me, it does not do anything.
In addition to making calls the sound is really low, somehow they have managed to increase the volume.
Thank you

Just a guess, similar thing has happened to me.
bypass initial finger print setup ~> security & location ~> Fingerprint
If there is already a finger print profile there, delete it and re enroll your finger print. Good luck.

I tell you that the phone is new, there is no existing profile.
Also I tell you that for the gesture on android 9. It does not react.
How can I know that it just came to me with factory error.

Locksceen PIN Bug!!! ON ESSENTIAL!!!

I have been updated to android ten and now the lock screen will revert back to the lock screen every time you put in the pin even if its correct. I seen the pixel is having the problem also. Ive tried to change to a password instead of the in and it wont let me change it because it asks for the pin to change it and does the same thing and if you twice it crashes settings app. I went to turn oem unlock bootloader in case it turned off and couldn't get back in and it wont even let me turn oem unlock on because it ask for a pin and then does the same thing then setting app crashes. Is anyone experiencing this and what is the work around?
Not a real solution, but it appears you can add a new user and still use the phone while you wait for a real fix from Google/Essential.
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/12740836?msgid=15068331
Another post early in thread suggests resetting the phone in recovery, of course you will lose your apps and user data.

So I had been on Android 10 since it came out everything worked fine until yesterday was trying to put in my pin, and it would do what I explained. I didn't think anything of it until I seen the article about the pixel and then I knew it was the same bug. This almost has to be a server side change because my phone was fine until yesterday. I tried everything I could find to fix it and it will not let you change the user on essential. Ultimately I did reset in recovery because the phone isn't functional after this bug hits.

Any chance that your phone automatically did an OTA update just before having this problem? There's a small hotfix that just released.

You can get into the settings with that method but it wont let you do anything from the setting that would be useful. I seen where on pixel you can change users and use the phone but this option wouldnt work on the essential for me.
You can try deleting /lockscreen.db in data/system/lockscreen.db
That will delete your current lock screen password but won't touch anything else. Just go in twrp and mount system and go to advanced/file manager and navigate to said file and swipe to delete.
Probably not very much help but just an idea...
