Forgot my Pattern on my 6P.... now what? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, i forgot my pattern lock.
and i am not prompting to any "forgotten pattern" option.
what should i do?
i prefer not to erase my device...

you have to be aware how fishy this is gonna look right?

yes...
i am currently at the Android Device manager, trying to lock and reset device device password without any help.
i cant find any option at my gmail account how to do it.
only wipe my phone?

as far as I know, yes. not 100%, but I mean... that's the point of the security

Factory reset is the way to go. If you can easily disable the pattern lock, and there's no point having it in the first place.

Is this the F.B.I.?

lock it with device manager, it will ask u what pin to lock it, unlock with that on phone

Use a factory reset in case you´ve forgotten the PIN or the Pattern. Even if I had a 100% answer for this problem, I´m not sure if this is something which has to be posted on any forum? What if somebody "snatches" a Nexus 6P and asks for help, how to get rid of the safety features? This is what makes these kind of questions at least very suspicious to me.

Seriously? You can't forget a fingerprint you know? This device got a fingerprint scanner in case you didn't realize.

not sure I buy the "not prompted for a forgotten apssword" option.
iirc, you have to have a PIN as a backup. Sooooo, ya

You need a pin backup for fingerprint, but not for pattern. The OP should contact Google support using her/his Google account. That's if this is genuine. Perhaps the community should contact Mishteret Yisra'el.

[Q] Forgot lock pattern, but doesn't unlock with my google account.

(I know this is gonna sound stupid question )
I set up a lock pattern and wanted to see what happens after a few times of incorrect entering it. So, I entered the paterrn 5 times and it said to wait 30 sec. I noticed there is an option to click "Forgot password" and unlock by using the Google account.
Well, I am inserting my google account and password (The correct one ) but it DOES NOT unlock my phone!
Guys, I'm stuck without a mobile... any thing I can do?
Thanks,
David
OK. I succeeded to perform a "Hard reset".
Lost apps, contact and calendar occasions, but at least I can use my mobile.
Thanks any way.
LMAO! Just couldn't resist doing it ey? Doing something your not ment to always makes a person feel good, until you land yourself in crap. But i guess that's how we learn. At least you know what happens when putting in the wrong code 5 times, and now you know how to fix it when all else fails.

If we wouldn't get wrong we wou'd never learn.
But in fact my question is a little bit more than just "what happens if..." Because I did insert the correct details for my Google account, and it still wasn't unlocked. The question is: Why?

[Q] Fingerprint doesn't recognise my fingerprint and forgot my password..

Long story short...i setup a fingerprint a few weeks back, didnt use it for a while and now I want to delete it.
Except now my phone refuses to recognise my fingerprint no matter which way i swipe it...
on top of that i'm retarded and forgot the alternate password too.
Is factory resetting the only way?
EDIT: Fingerprint is not set as my passcode, I just have it registered. My passcode is a separate PIN code.

Oh thanks, I don't mean I can't get into my phone.
I have a separate PIN code set as my passcode and I have a fingerprint that is registered that I want to delete, but to delete the fingerprint I need the alternate password, which i have forgotten lol. When I swipe it many times and it fails, it just asks me for the alternate password.

Only way I can think of is if you have a custom recovery installed enter it and factory reset or something.

Oh i see what you mean now..
for now all i can think of is factory reset.. will try to find out..
Thanx
Update: I found this. But i dont know if this also removes the alternative password.. i just located my phone but i cant check anything else
cause im at work.. need my phone..
go online to android device manager log in with your google log in wait till it locates your phone u then click to lock your device it asks you for a new password. It over rides whatever password or lock feature u have on it. Then you get phone type the new password and boom problem solved.

Be advised--if you have registered fingerprints, perform a full/data Nandroid, and later restore, your fingerprints and alternate password may no longer work. The effect is the same as what the OP experienced. It seems like the only way to resolve the issue at this time is to reset.
This problem also affects the Note 4 and Edge. See thread here:

I am offering in the general Q/A forum $25 for anyone who comes up with a method to wipe/clear/delete the fingerprint registration when the registered fingerprints and alternate/backup passwords don't work.
The thread is here:

A friend of mine is in real trouble. She bought her s5 for christmas and travelled. She took amazing photos and made National Geographic material videos, including of melting glaciers. when she was on a cruise for the new year, the phone locked her out due to the fingertip lock. The worse part: She wasn´t using it, when she got it from her coat pocket it was already locked. When she went to the Samsung store they told her to do a Hard Reset since the option to unblock with the google id wasn´t appearing. Before I found out that maybe she could´ve tried to unlock with samsumg lost my phone or google remote she did the reset and lost all her stuff. Tried 3 different recovery apps and all of them requires rooting. Not only we´re not confident enough, she wants to return it to Samsung and rooting voids the warranty. Is there any other way?
I even thought about taking the phone to a computer assistance to see if they can do something

Bypass password screen?

Hello, I had found a S 5 at a McDonald's parking lot(Dead), so I went home and charged it up.
Is there a way to bypass the lockscreen without erasing all data? Or maybe somehow grab the phone number by looking up some unique code?
I can Unlock VIA Google, enter backup password, and use a fingerprint.
P.S. The phone has an alarm that goes off at 6:00AM and not sure if it's rooted.
Thanks,
Syn
Umm, that's the whole point of security, so if you lose it, no-one can get in
Hand it in to the local cop shop, ask McDonalds to put a poster up

It's not security without being able to be breached, I'm not here to ask what to do with it, I'm here to ask how to bypass the lock-screen.

Then you will be reported, this is not a hacking forum
Hopefully one day you lose your phone, and someone manages to access all your data
Mod Edit
As has been suggested , the right thing to do is hand the phone in

Regarding the automatically lock !?

Hey guys , is there any way to turn this option off completely? i hate it when my phone locks By itself.
i want this option completely off (im using the nexus imprint function, it's really cool but i would like to completely disable other phone locks..)
is it possible? like i just want to use the fingerprint (i use it only for the convenience of unlocking the phone, not for the "security")..
hope someone can help me with this I'm rooted , have PureNexus + Kernel AuditorMod installed.
the phone is encrypted (so if i was actually to decrypt'unencrypt' the phone, would it then get rid of the auto lock features? but would i still be able to use imprint?)

I use Xposed and the module FingerprintEnabler.
This module bypasses the requirement for a password at boot and only requires a fingerprint.
I never notice when my phone is locked.

really ?
like, also not from automatically lock ? i mean do you have security off completely?
so is it like , that module 'fingerprintenabler' does not need you to actually set it up in the settings security??
if so i will install xposed asap! xD

you dont want to autolock itself when exactly? if you have an android wear watch, you can just set "Smart Unlock". it'll bypass security whenever the watch (or any other bluetooth device of your choice) is connected to the phone.

Fingerprints still installed but it will never ask for a manual password as long as your fingerprint works.
It will not require a password even from a cold boot, only the fingerprint.
The fingerprint works so well I never really notice my device being locked.

thanks for your assistance!

I need to open my Nexus 7 with pattern lock that I didn't put on it.

Need help to open my Nexus 7 tablet with pattern lock on it that I didn't put on it. Can't lose the data inside. Please help.
Thank you.

From Google: "If you set a pattern to unlock your device, you are in luck. Try to unlock your Nexus device 5 times and a "Forgot Pattern" option will appear. After selecting that, you can enter your Google Account email and password to unlock your device and reset your pattern. If this method does not work for you, try the method below."

It seems you may have your answer. Thread closed.
Please note that requests like this are generally removed from XDA. This is because claims of "forgotten" passwords and the like are often (= usually) rather dubious. You have the benefit of the doubt on this occasion.
