Google Security Updates - Huawei Mate 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

I am on MHA-L29 8.0.0.378 (C636) and have not had a security update since October, almost 4 months now!!!!
Is this normal for Huawei?

Wait for pie release. China itself already in pie.

With Huawei, especially if you have a USA version, you are LUCKY to get ANY updates.

Is there any timing available on when pie will be available?

March/April.

The longest time my C432 Mate has been without an update was about two months back in 2017 or early 2018. After the December patches arrives, no new updates in FF at least. I guess they make me wait for the Pie update.
EDIT: 4 months sounds crazy, at least to me. Damn shame if they don't update all Mates as often as C432's.

I spoke to a Huawei rep on their support line and they said they usually role out security updates every 3-4 months. That being said, I would mind waiting an extra month or so to go straight to Android Pie.

Google security updates are issued monthly aren't they?
So if Huawei upgrade the Mate 9 to pie, will they continue to issue security upgrades? I have been 4+ months now without anything.

They probably will issue security updates every 3-4 months when Pie releases until Android Q comes out.

Android Oreo for the FRD-L04

So I had a quick conversation with the Honor US team. Their customer support agent (Who was very kind btw) hasn't received information about any future updates or Oreo. I'm starting to become a little skeptical about getting Oreo on our phone. Also multiple articles about Huawei devices recieving Oreo have been taken down. Let's hope for the best.
Hope our Honor 8 will get O, but if no, we have reason for buy a Pixel devices like Pixel 2
If we don't receive Android O I return to iPhone devices

But we do need to consider the price of this device. I paid 290 dollars for my phone and a pixel or iPhone will cost somewhere around 700 dollars.. That's nearly 2 and a half times the cost of this phone. In no way we can compare this phone to those phones but yes Honor promised 2 years of updates and they should live up to it.

Me too. They rolled out Nougat pretty early for our devices when compared to other devices. My phone was running Nougat before my friend's Galaxy S7 Edge.

I hope we get it, mainly for two reasons:
1- to get Oreo itself
2- so honor can release source code of Oreo for the development
They have to upgrade us to Android 8.0 due to this policy

I don't think that means anything about a firmware update. They could update Emui and provide security updates for 2 years and fulfill that promise. Afterall, security updates come out very often and though most manufacturers ignore most of them, they are there every few months for the taking. So Huawei throws one of those out every now and then and they keep their promise. I hope we get it like everyone else but I don't trust any of those wormy cell phone manufacturers.

They said the same things with Nougat. I come from a Lumia 630 and as you know Microsoft said that ALL the Windows phones would be updated to Win10. Well in the end 1/3 of them received the "update" a crappy bugged beta. The rest was out, with even ms services down.
So is better for them to don't say anything if not confirmed.

Did any US mate 9 receive oreo update?

I sent an e-mail to huawei to ask about this. Here is the reply:
Dear XXX,
We widely appreciate your preference and hope you are doing well. We thank you for contacting us and for showing interest on our products.
We kindly inform you that the update for the Mate 9 to oreo was already released, this update might vary depending the country, continent, location and carriers.
Please wait.
If you have any further questions do not hesitate to give us a call to 888.5HUAWEI / 888.548.2934 english/spanish: monday – sunday 7:00 am – 9:00 pm (CST).
We thank you for contacting Huawei Technical Support, we remain at your service.

However I couldn't find a proved oreo firmware for us mate 9 (C567). How about you guys?

Can the C567 Oreo could install with Firmware finder, I tried all of them, they are not approved to be installed. I don't want to unlock my phone, it is not safe.
"already released" yeah, officially everywhere BUT the USA version.
I think Huawei is just going to cut their losses that the US government pressured AT&T to bail.
Oh well... Huawei's loss, & if they do, the Mate 9 will be the LAST of the 3 Huawei phones I will buy. No support/updates without having to jack around with it, I'm done.

same here..coming from samsung and I thought they were bad with updates. You can see on their facebook page people are asking about the update but all they say is wait for it for the last few months and yet they keep on saying they are committed to providing U.S. customers with best possible products and experiences.
It also makes no sense because the Oreo update that's on firmware finder (360) is fantastic. I've been using it since Friday and so far not a single bug or hiccup. My battery life is also better than on Nougat. I haven't even bothered with root this time. I'm on track for 9 hours of SOT on this charge without any special tricks or constantly managing location services and syncing (previously I would get 7.5 hours but I was disabling services and turning off location when not in use). They did a great job with the update. Release it already!

Well afaik huawei isnt the best company on updates.. Been in huawei quad xl before and i thought they already changed but i guess i was wrong. Sad.
This is my first Huawei. Previously mostly had LG phones. The way LG did it was they just stopped supporting the phones seemingly at random, or whenever they determined it wasn't worth the effort. Usually leaving a few large bugs in the last release (such as a terrible battery drain in the last Marshmallow release for the G4, with no way to downgrade). That makes some business sense I guess (not using the resources). In this case, Huawei already developed the update. In fact, there are two version of Oreo for US Mate 9s on Firmware Finder. They've already spent the money. Well, hopefully they'll make it official soon and they're just ironing out some bugs.

Guys am new to Huawei device so how do i update my mate 9 (L29C185) to oreo. System updater shows my phone is up to date.
Should I update using Firmware Finder (FF)?, if i update to oreo using FF is there any problem? Or should i wait till i get OTA? Please hlp...
i guess the reason Huawei make US market the last one for the rom update , was want to make sure there is no bugs when the time to do the OTA for US market which is a major one for Huawei. so i am also waiting for OTA
Guess they are holding off "officially" until after the U.S. release of the Mate 10?

I decided to rebrand to C432 and get the oreo update, I am tired of waiting, the cell phone has 1-2 years lifetime, I don't want to waste my life to stay with buggy EMUI 5.0 . EMUI 5.0 US B190 has a lot of bugs, and the security pack is April 2017, and the battery can rarely last for a whole day. Rebrand to C432 and enjoy smooth and battery-saving system.

I don't understand this, I never had any battery problems when I was with Nougat, majority of the users on Nougat are satisfied with the battery life, yes there's some bugs on EMUI 5.0 but not enough to cause any major issues, are you sure you didn't do all the steps like back tracking on what apps were installed and etc.?
I only upgraded to Oreo for the security patch and for curiosity reasons, been having a good device experience so far
Stock mate9 here. I'm getting 7-9 hours sot. It is the best phone I've ever owned as far as battery goes. I just can't kill this thing in a day. I YouTube, game, hotspot, social, maps, and everything else.

Got my update at 9am this morning, performance is definitely a lot better

I Think Oreo Update Is Eminent Cuz of recent Security Patches

I don't know about anyone else but I have gotten 3 back to back security updates in the past 24 hours to bring my ph up to the April 2018 patch level. Before this, it had been months since I'd gotten a security patch.
I speculate its a pre-req for the Oreo update because I just bought my daughter the Moto X4 this week & the 1st thing that occurred out of the box, is that it got 3 consecutive security patches to bring it up to the March patch level & only then did the Oreo update show up immediately after that.
This is all pure speculation on my part but based on some recent events that don't add up unless they are about to push out the Oreo update.
What do you guys think?
I was surprised to receive the April patch this morning. I really hope they're pushing the Oreo
i think so also man.. because to get march and april so quick..something is up!
Lets see what they are up to.. as we are now in Q2
I would doubt that the security patches mean anything other than the Android Security Team pushed out an extra patch.
Honor release Oreo for 7x.. i think next One It s Honor 8 ?
They're also updating their Huawei Backup app with a newer UI.
I haven't received any updates since Feb, B361, L02 anyone else in India got the security patches for April?
I was thinking this also. I hope it means that for true.

I dunno. My phone still sits on B394 with august 2017 security updates. And it's bought officially. Go figure.

Where's the promised regular updates??

Isn't this an android one device which was supposed to get regular updates? My phone is still on the FEBRUARY SECURITY update..
What kind of jerks are working in ASUS???
1st. We are not on android one zone
2nd. There is March 2019 security update
Not that I'm not annoyed at the lack of updates - Pie still isn't pushed to Taiwan and not even Oreo is updated now - but it takes a jerk to call someone a jerk, huh?

Really? I'm on the latest oreo, build .340, and have february 2019 patch. The Pie rom are not for global for now. Do you received an update after .340, that is not the beta pie or the first pie released (.050) only for india?
really?are u still believe it??its first time u use asus phone?this not first time they lie to us.
honestly speaking, am i the only one who thinks developers on xda are better than asus developers ? oh yes ofc xda devs are better undoubtedly.
coming to updates part you see its a stock android and still it is taking so long for asus to fix it and update properly and on the other hand we have color and miui os which inspite of being completely custom already are updated to pie and that too with no major bugs whatsoever. not to ignore the fact that miui and color os both are very heavily modified.
Also the fact that nokia, motorola, realme, redmi have already updated almost all their eligible (promised) devices to pie months back if i am correct so where is asus in all of this no where near.
tbh asus is kicking of itself and if all you wanted to do was push the beta as stable after a month then should have done that the same day inspite of making a fake promise coz a fake promise hurts more than a bitter and sad truth
EDIT: i know its not an android one device but come on afterall its completely stock not like miui or color os to take time. instead if redmi and realme goes onto this kind of delay its understandable but not when it comes to stock. i still remember motorola before lenevo took it was always the first to update their devices to new android after google why ? simple coz motorola was using stock android
May be, being irregular is regular for Asus.
Android pie os full of bugs , Câmera APP dosent work some time Nerf to close and Open again to take pictures.... ONLY solution for now is Google câmera...

The pie update is full of bugs and what's the point of applying a update if it will hamper your user experience.

We may can get Android 10 (Q) update?

What you think people?
Technically speaking, the 2 years of updates that "Android One" promises will be fulfilled shortly in September, so neither Xiaomi nor Google are committed to launch Android Q for the Mi A1, which might take it out? Well, I don't know, the Mi A1 is still a great phone, but as I said before, the 2 years just end in September
Probably if we see the Android Q will be in Custom Roms that in my opinion offer you a better experience in every way compared to the Stock ROM
If we talk about 2 years then the phone was launched on 5 September and Android q comes comes on 3 September so, technically we should get
I would not get your hopes high. The 2 years of promised updates i dont believe they match with the initial release of the said OS, they are 2 years of updates they are released when Xiaomi releases them to the public. Pretty much the same as saying we can seriously expect 2 major android updates in the said period which we already got: A1 was released with Nougat (7.0) out of the box and in those 2 years we got Oreo (8.0) and Pie (9.0). And with new One devices in their portfolio they most likely will prioritize them over such our oldie A1. Anyway if we get 10, cool then. Otherwise we have to get it from custom roms such as Lineage as others like.
Hopefully it won't be buggy like Oreo or Pie and have no way to rollback easily.

That's what I've been thinking since I've got the phone!
I don't think of getting Android 10 on our Mi A1. Buy fortunately web could try It on custom roms. It's been 1 year I use Pixel Experience custom rom. Used stock Onlus for 1 month.

When the Oreo 8.0 update was released, it was pulled due to bugs. Features like high impendance headphone support got broken. Oreo 8.1 update was also pulled because of data loss and safetynet not working. Then the Pie update also broke wifi, BT, 4G and got pulled.
Xiaomi doesn't have a good track record when it comes to major Android updates.

A1 a priori cannot get android 10. The support period has ended, there are only security patches. And in order to run android 10 on A1, you need to run beta testing - what to do cannot, because the beta test team has been disbanded. And updates with corrections and upgrades to the android version will no longer be. Only security patches will remain. And about Android 10 - you can forget, and not hope. Only custom roms.
But can we get in custom rom?

As you're seeing now... We could get something almost pure if we switch our device to Treble... People is starting to build GSI images with Android 10 for Tissot.
Official 10 - NO.
However we still have decent dev and community so we are going to get Unofficial 10 for sure
