I have been noticing a weird issue since many moons (updates) ago where our beloved device (601KL 6gb variant v338 stock+rooted with magisk in my case) refuses to connect to internet over Open Wifi.
E.g.- If any of you are travelling in India by train, try connecting to the free Google Railwire Wi-Fi for free internet. Normally what should happen is that you are connected with no internet and a pop-up page appears where you are requested to input your mobile number for receiving an OTP. The OTP is then entered into the page and you will be connected to internet.
OR
You can open any page which by default will lead you to the OTP page where you go through the entire process.
Now, in X00TD what happens is that you will be connected with no internet but you do not get any pop up page neither are you redirected to any such OTP page. Hence no free internet !
This isssue occurs across multiple open wifi networks which require OTP sign in (I have checked at airports too) and this bug has also been reported on Asus zentalk forum but the Mods there are clueless about the nature of the problem itself.
I have tried several solutions but none of them seem to work all the time, the only solution that works at times is opening <http://login.page/>.
So any ideas to implement it natively ?
I too had problem but my device 6gb did got a notification to sign in to WiFi network and I entered mobile number then an otp was received after entering it the verification never finished and I used my mobile Internet instead.
Hmm, well I keep trying to connect with my above mentioned method but initially it requires mobile network and sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't

Nope, neither disabled nor deleted. I can login to other password based networks just fine, it's the OTP based ones that have been causing trouble.
Not facing this problem as I connected via railwire yesterday and It showed the login page and even got the notification for login , my device is 4GB varient

Hi, my 8525 suddenly can't use WIFI. It do show the icon on top of screen indicating that I am connected to a hot spot. But when I open IE, I can't open any web page. I can do it hours ago, and that time I visit gmail.com, download its application to MIDlet and then use WIFI to check my mail box. Also I visit Ebuddy.com and download and setup its application. Both of them run okay. But when I turn on the phone tonight. WIFI doesn't work well. IE just keeps locating... and gives no response for a long time and finally tells me "The Page cannot be displayed or download because the connection was lost." I want to know what happens and what I can do to solve this problem.
In addition: Now I unlock both SIM and Supper CID using this webpage's guide:
http://www.windowsmobilecool.com/2008/08/how-to-unlock-your-htc-tytn-aka-hermes/
But I don't know how to check whether I already have unlocked Super CID? I try a T-Mobile SIM and it works well. So at least it is SIM Unlocked now.
often it's enough just to pull the plug from the wifi router for 10sec
happens with all wifi routers think it's their dhcp which get confused but mobile device
because I dont get the same problem with laptops and desktops connecting with wifi
another thing which could fix it would be the update the router with the latests firmware
as they fix bugs with newer wifi devices once in awhile and then release new firmware for their routers
Thanks Rudegar, I solved this problem last night. The problem is caused by an application I use on my phone. China Mobile Fetion. Since China is a country forbid the WIFI function on phones officially sold there, some software application from Chinese companies and programmers set GPRS as their default connection method, and I mistakenly choose let this software setting the connection function automatically and it just adjust all program's default connection as CM GPRS. After delete all GPRS settings on phone, the WIFI works well.

I noticed there was a thread for this sort of issue in the HD2 forum but this is a stock DHD running HTC Sense.
When the wireless is on I cannot connect to the internet at all through applications such as facebook or twitter or even the XDA app. I recieve notifications from those apps, and I recieve email.
However if i try to browse to anything within these apps I recieve a "server is not responding" error, or variation therof.
This happens on ANY wireless network as I have been running on my home wireless and a corporate wireless (which I control so is not just a corporate blocker, or firewall issue).
I am reasonably new to android, but I am also a network technician so I know what I am doing RE network.

Getting arsey isn't going to help you get a decent response.
I am also a network tech - but I have not experienced any issues with wireless on my DHD.
You say stock - so I assume you have not rooted/flashed anything other than possibly the OTA update?
All I can suggest is manually forgetting the network and reconnecting. If you have any security on your WLAN, take it off temporarily and try again.
Failing that, it's time for a full factory reset to see if that gets you anywhere. If that fails, your device is probably faulty and you should have it replace.
I assume you have no issues over 3G/HSDPA?
It just seemed pointless having someone say they don't have the problem.
Like I say this occurs on any network I have trialled it on, I will disable security when i get home.
Data over Network is fine, I have not rooted or flashed a ROM this is OTB phone with 1.72 installed.
I just got my Nexus 4 yesterday, when I installed whatsapp I wasn't able to connect. I was getting the below error. Any help?
Code:
"Unable to connect. Please check that you are connected to the internet and try again.
Please reboot your phone if your connection problem persists."

Bro, even I had the same problem when I installed it on my N4.
I had even mailed about the problem to the support section of Whatsapp, but they didn't responded.
So I switched to "VIBER" along with my friends.
whatsapp
I amongst many, with the same issue if you do a google search re whatsapp issue.
Not only can I not connect, but I did finally overcome that issue by downloading the newer version.
The other issue I experience with whatsapp is the delay in receiving messages. It seems the push service, is not running properly.
All this I have experienced since the update of Android 422.

If you can connect to other applications on your data network, but not WhatsApp, it could be that your mobile provider has configured your wireless access points to block certain chat applications. Try this if WhatsApp still will not work on data only:
Contact your mobile provider and ask them about different access point settings to run chat apps.
They will guide you through a process in which you will manually configure your data network and web settings.
Go to access point settings (APNs) and select TATA DOCOMO INTERNET apn or which ever service provider you use select Internet apn , your whatsapp will work.

Since the MM update (stock verizon, no root) my wife's phone cannot connect to wifi networks that have a redirect to a login screen like you see in hotels and unfortunately her work network. At first I suspected an issue with chrome so I had her clear the cache for chrome which works for exactly one login. Tried different browsers and the problem persists. I sat with the phone at a restaurant last night and after 5-10 minutes of trying to connect I finally got it to work but three different browsers and cache clearing is clearly not how this is supposed to work. Is anyone else having problems like this and has anyone found a solution? I'm about ready to throw the phone away. Also for what it's worth rooting/romming not an option on this phone due to her work software.
Some additional info, on her work network when the login attempts to redirect she gets the errror: NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID. When I was trying to get it to log in on a public network that had a redirect login page all I got was a page not available message in whichever browser I tried.
I am on vacation and in order to get WiFi we have to connect to the router first and then authenticate through a webpage.
Should be a piece of cake, but it seems that CM13 devices can get a connection but not get to the authentication page. Both my OP2 and Samsung TAB2 have CM13 installed, and both can connect to the router, but don't get the authentication page.
My wife's Huawei P8 and my son's S4 can get a connection as well as the authentication page. Both their devices are stock.....
I have been trying for days now, but I'm lost. Can any one point me in the right direction? Search gave no result
I don't think this has to do with the ROM.. Have you tried to open the authentication page in another browser?

Yes I have: the built in browser, Chrome and Opera Mini. Neither of them give a satisfying result
Normally when you connect to a public WiFi you get a pop-up in which you can authenticate. In the case of the above mentioned devices there is no pop-up that pops up, but one that states that there is a connection but no internet. When our stock devices connect they het the normal popup to be able to authenticate ?

Try to manually type in the authentication web page's URL (copy it from your son's or wife's phone) onto your browser and see if you can authenticate that way. If this works, just save that URL as a bookmark and keep a shortcut on your homescreen as a work-around.
This may be some weird bug with CM13. Was it working when you were on stock ROM?
Don't know, only have this phone since october LOL (means I haven't been @ this vacation-location since)
Anyway, I will give it a shot and report back the results
I tried to loading the authentication - page manually, but without success. I get the message that there is a connection but no internet. I guess this is where it ende.....leaving on thursday, and I have invested too much time in this already. I'm also thinking about reverting back to OOS....dont like surprises like this one.
Do
I'd like to thank everyone (S4G4R) for trying to help me out!
That is really weird. Either there's a setting in your router which is causing a bug on CM13 or its a plain WiFi bug. Can you try to run this app and let me know if it helps?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.in.zextr.wcf
If nothing else works, I guess you should switch ROMS (Paranoid Android, Exodus) or go back to Oxygen.
Either way, you should report this bug.
Thanks for your help; tried the WiFi fixer, but did not help unfortunately.
I will switch back to OOS
I have the same problem with lineage os some WiFi networks fail authentication although open
If it's still a problem, you can try WiFi Manager by Kostya Vasilyev. I have had some luck with that before
