WiFi authentication problem(?) - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on vacation and in order to get WiFi we have to connect to the router first and then authenticate through a webpage.
Should be a piece of cake, but it seems that CM13 devices can get a connection but not get to the authentication page. Both my OP2 and Samsung TAB2 have CM13 installed, and both can connect to the router, but don't get the authentication page.
My wife's Huawei P8 and my son's S4 can get a connection as well as the authentication page. Both their devices are stock.....
I have been trying for days now, but I'm lost. Can any one point me in the right direction? Search gave no result

I don't think this has to do with the ROM.. Have you tried to open the authentication page in another browser?

Yes I have: the built in browser, Chrome and Opera Mini. Neither of them give a satisfying result
Normally when you connect to a public WiFi you get a pop-up in which you can authenticate. In the case of the above mentioned devices there is no pop-up that pops up, but one that states that there is a connection but no internet. When our stock devices connect they het the normal popup to be able to authenticate ?

Try to manually type in the authentication web page's URL (copy it from your son's or wife's phone) onto your browser and see if you can authenticate that way. If this works, just save that URL as a bookmark and keep a shortcut on your homescreen as a work-around.
This may be some weird bug with CM13. Was it working when you were on stock ROM?

Don't know, only have this phone since october LOL (means I haven't been @ this vacation-location since)
Anyway, I will give it a shot and report back the results

I tried to loading the authentication - page manually, but without success. I get the message that there is a connection but no internet. I guess this is where it ende.....leaving on thursday, and I have invested too much time in this already. I'm also thinking about reverting back to OOS....dont like surprises like this one.
Do
I'd like to thank everyone (S4G4R) for trying to help me out!

That is really weird. Either there's a setting in your router which is causing a bug on CM13 or its a plain WiFi bug. Can you try to run this app and let me know if it helps?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.in.zextr.wcf
If nothing else works, I guess you should switch ROMS (Paranoid Android, Exodus) or go back to Oxygen.
Either way, you should report this bug.

Thanks for your help; tried the WiFi fixer, but did not help unfortunately.
I will switch back to OOS

I have the same problem with lineage os some WiFi networks fail authentication although open

If it's still a problem, you can try WiFi Manager by Kostya Vasilyev. I have had some luck with that before

Does wifi turn on? (Does the left LED blink like it does when wifi is turned on?)
If not, then it could be related to a cingular cab - did you install any of the cabs from the original cingular extended rom?
left led does blink.
ive also gotten as far as picking up a network.
i have tried everything, i cannot get my wifi to work at all. i dont know whats up.
the settings i needed (which i replicated for the new rom) on the old rom, was this
I would select networks, MY work network, this connects to the internet.
then in the WLAN adapter i had to manual enter my dns servers.
thats pretty much it to get it to work, but now with this rom it wont
Similar or different problem? Not sure. PARTLY SOLVED!

Hi NG,
I updated my O2 XDA mini s (German) from OS 1.3.4.2 to 2.16.9.1. (Radio 02.07.10 included). To be honest, I was never really happy with the quality and reliabilty of the radio. 4 out of 5 times it did work, but once in a while, especially while roaming, it gave me a headache. After unlocking and updating to the new version, WLAN looks to be working quite well, at least for connecting to access points, but it seems that it can't browse external websites. VXutils give back a socket error trying to access external (outside my home network) websites/Email.
Internal (inside my home network) connections work like a charm. Termincal Services client accesses my Win2003 Server no problem and I can also connect to a website hosted on my internal server. (http://servername:port).
Whenever I try to connect to external sources, the browser stops afer not successfully "locating" the respective server. On the other hand locating might not be the problem. Performing a ping to an external site with VXutils properly picks up the right ip address but cannot send/receive ping!
GPRS works as supposed. Can connect to sites with no problem.
May be somebody experiences the same problem or, even better, has a solution.
By the way I used @Work for all possible settings. The work profile is set up for both connection types.
Besides that, the new rom is really nice
EDIT Well after some time playing around, I have solved the problem or better the problem partly disapeared. In 'Settings' 'Network Adapters' I switched from Use server-assigned IP address to manual and entered IP, DNS, Gateway, etc. With these settings it everything worked after a soft-reset. Going back to DHCP and soft-reset, it first worked an now it doesn't anymore. At least there is a work around and I'm trying now some other things. All machines currently work with the DHCP settings correct. I will check and keep you updated if the problems comes from Server settings or from something in the PDA EDIT

Danrw. Concerning the registry settings, after patching the os I did change the registry settings. One already existed with the right value as shown in the 802.11g thread. The other one, DotG, I added.
After that, it did pick up a only G router!
As far as setting DNS manually. It is not enough to just cange the dns setting. You have to enter all the information and even after a soft-reset it takes some time to have the settings picked up... Use vxUTIL 'Info'-Screen to check the current settings. I did test wlan before and after applying packages from the extended rom. No change on reliability or performance on WLAN IMHO.
As far as I understand. Your problem is actually connecting to the router/Access Point. For testing please disable all security on your router and do a soft-reset before trying to access. Also since we have heard of several problems with model 9100 not realizing if an access point is available or not. Also change the SSID of your router and if possible the MAC Address of the router.
Don't forget to soft-reset and first try SDIO Adapter inyour pda with auto IP/DNS/etc. settings.
Another thought. Embarassing, but once I messed around with trying to get a new pda online and forgot to disable the mac filter settings in the router, which resulted in being able to see the active router but it didn't let me connect. After those two days I was missing a lot of hair.
Good luck

I did but only the minimum. I trimmed down their install to the basics. I narrowed it down to one of two CABs. Either the gprsstall or EnableEONS. I didn't install either of those and I"m now back up and running. Of course, I still can't get it to prefer WiFi to EDGE.
I had experienced the same problem with home wifi network after upgrading my rom. I saw in my laptop that the key was set to 2. I went to the network cards, clicked on my wifi network, and under Network Key swithed the value from 1 to 2. I can now connect to my wifi network at home.

I do not know if my solution will work for you because I upgraded my rom to 2.16 but lets give it a try. I use d-link DI-524 wifi router. Start menu > Settings > Connections (tab) > Network Cards [I must admit earlier today when I was trying to connect my k-jam to the wifi, I did get as far as it asking me for my authentication code and afterwards it timed-out] --> select your wifi network [at this moment as I'm trying this out my wifi on my k-jam is off] --> Network Key (tab) > it was the key index that I had to change from 1 to 2. Before doing this though, go to your router's wireless configuration page through your webbrowser and make sure the keyX (it looks for d-link this can be from key1 to key4 or at least on mine) and make sure the key index you select on your mda is the same number that is used on your router for code authentication.
Also I noticed after resetting my k-jam that I could get connected to my wifi but I could not surf, in wifi setting on my k-jam I had to hit renew ip and then I was able to surf.
I hope this works for you. Good luck and many late nights.
no luck with this for me
even tried removing wep all together. tried multiple routers.
i can detect the ssid's, but i cant connect to them. times out on the connect.
Mine worked no problem...you may already have had this suggestion but here was my process.
Unlocked with lokwiz
Upgraded
Reset before extended ROM apps installed
Installed total commander
deleted extended ROM
Upgraded again
i re-installed the CINGULAR ROM and WiFi works like a charm
......any clues?
Here's what I ended up finding out for mine. First, at the time I wrote this, I was running the 2.16 ROM. Now I'm running the 2.17, but the fix is the same with either.
Don't load the cingular add-ins GPRSSTALL or EONS. I narrowed it down to those two that were causing the issue. So, the only ones I install now are CingularMMSAccount, EdgeIcon, TimeStyle, WiFiRate4, and SmartDialingEnable. Thats it, and its all I've seen to be necessary from Cingular's little bundle 'o fun. Everything else I haven't found interferes with my ability to use the phone at all.
Hope this helps...

PiE not Browsing over 3G

Hi All
Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, I searched but coudln't find anything.
My PiE works fine only under WiFi, but never seems to want to work over my mobile data connection.
My BBConnect, and HTC Home Weather can establish and use the connection no problems, but not with PiE.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this up
Thank you!
...actually pie isn't working at all even over WiFi.
I click on any link, it says connecting then it stops...
i would
1 check the setting in connection advanced to see if it was set to use the right connection to access the internet
2 try another browser then pie (it being the worst browser on the planet could be an issue)
3½ if special network settings for gateway and or dns was set i would remove them or change them to the connect ones

My other programs (BBConnect, HTC Weather) have no problems getting on.
Just PIE (was set for Rogers Internet) I also tried My Blackberry and HTC Home still updates, but not PIE....
I thought I would bump this.
I gave up and did a re-install. Everything was fine for a bit, and its back again.
All I have installed is SyncML Client, VJDevice Lock, Today Agenda, voice command BBConnect.
Its ONLY IE that won't work. I would really appreciate some help with this one!
So it is the blackberry software that is doing it. I think it is forcing you to use that, rather than the regular data connection.
If anyone can help me manage this, I would appreciate it.
Thank you!
I have a similar browser related problem...
Everything works on 3G, GPRS, WiFi, etc... EXCEPT PIE only does not work with WiFi, same symptoms you are receiving. I have to turn off the WiFi to get PIE to work. With WiFi on, email and all other connectivity programs can stilll get data from the web.
There is something here where PIE settings are somehow slightly different than the WiFi connection....
Anyone have any ideas? The fix for me would also fix the same issue for you...
...and a follow up to the issue, if I wanted to change the default browser in WM6 to NetFront of Opera, how would I go about doing that?

Wifi Guest Connection Problem

I've searched several forums for this problem with no luck. It seems this is not specific to the Droid X but many Android devices with some posts 2 years old. I figured this was a good place to start. Surely it's been solved by now.
I've been trying to connect to our guest wifi network at the hospital where I work. The X says connected and gives me a good signal. When I try to open the browser it doesn't give me the screen where I agree to the terms to get access. It attempts to send me to http s: //1.1.1.1... but the page never loads and instead gives an error about the lack of connection.
The network is open but the SSID is hidden. I have setup a new wifi connection with 'guest' and it sees the network. I can briefly see Citrix popup on the browser address bar before it sends me to the failure screen. I have turned off the popup blocker and tried the default browser, Dolphin, Skyfire, and XScope. I've also tried Open Wifi Login but since all I need to do is click this crazy button it doesn't work. The security certificate box is unchecked in settings and I've tried changing the browsers to desktop and even iphone. I do not have access to the router itself. I can connect to my secure wifi at home with no problem.
Sorry for dragging this out but I wanted to give as much info as possible. I've seen posts various places about this but never a solution. The worst part is a friend of mine has a new iphone and it brings the confirmation screen up and he's in immediately. Of course I've harassed the crap out of him about my huge screen, etc so he's really loving this. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Not sure, but the first weekend after the phone came out I was at a hotel in AL for a wedding and was able to connect to a guest access. The droid told me it found a wireless network, I connected and opened the browser and it took me to a page where I had to click 1 day access. All I can say is try getting a laptop or another phone and see if you see the address it goes to and email the link to yourself and try to connect that way.

[Q] New S5 not automatically connecting to WiFi

Hello everyone,
Last week I upgraded my S4 to a brand new S5 on T-Mobile and currently it's stock and unrooted. It works great, except it won't automatically connect to WiFi. Every time I encounter a known WiFi it'll say Sign in Required. I'll press Connect and it'll then connect and function perfectly.
This smells like a software bug to me, but then I'd expect more posts on this topic (I didn't see any posts on XDA, and posts elsewhere were unhelpful).
What I'd ultimately like to know is if this is a hardware defect and I should get my phone replaced before it's too late, or if this is something that a software update (or rooting and flashing) will fix. Or of course it could be neither...
Thanks!
I have the same probblem and I am dying for a solution. I've spent hours googling and testing different things to no avail.
I am going to try to bring as much detail as I can, hopefully someone can pitch in.
Things I have read might work:
"forgetting" the connection and recreating it
Turning off and turning back on
Turning off, removing the battery
Turning off, removing the battery and the sim and waiting a minute (seems like voodoo to me)
Factory reset
I've tried everything, bar the factory reset which I am reluctant to do, specially when people's answers on forums said it wasn't a solution.
To try and shed more light, I would also add that:
It does this with any network (so it's not channel/router issue)
It does this consistently (and since I got my phone)
It finds networks, but just won't connect
It always connects fine if I pick the network (so it's not a distance/bad reception issue)
My phone is unrooted and stock and I have no weird apps (only popular/regular ones, social media, news, and so on)
My options are set correctly (notifications for open networks is checked and wifi is on)
I really hope someone can help as I rely on wifi a lot, and this is kind of a deal-breaker for me.
So I found a psuedo-fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723486
The key part being:
1. >Wifi >Advanced >Disable (uncheck) Smart network switch.
2. Forget connection, then establish connection again. Works no issues.

This has "fixed" it for me, but it also means I no longer have Smart Network Switch which is kinda annoying, albeit less annoying.
A true solution would be lovely.

I now have factory reset and let google reinstall all my apps.
Until now, auto-connect works.
The only thing I didn't do this time that I did last time is deactivate a bunch of samsung apps that come pre-installed.

I have been having the same issue. I can't get any answers either. It really is frustrating. I am going to keep trying to find out. When I called the T-Mobile store they said that I could bring it back w/in the 14 days & replace it and I may do that if I can't get an answer for the problem! If you happen to find out what the answer is PLEASE post and let us know! Thanks
My wife has the same issue with not auto connecting. She has a AT&T S5 that is not rooted....thanks to AT&T putting her in prison lockdown. I think it could be something with the last update because her phone used to auto connect just fine and now it doesn't. The strange thing is that she just now noticed it not connecting and she had took an update that was a few weeks ago or whenever it actually was and now we don't really know for sure if it's really just now an issue or has been since the update....imo I think it could be something with the update.
I have an S5 as well with no issues, but then again, I have the TMO that's rooted and carrier unlocked running custom rom.....thanks TMO for not being D***'s like at&t
Solution!
Long story short, there's a problem with Android and DHCP. Specifically, an IP associated with a router doesn't die when it should and attempting another connection goes back to this IP instead of using the correct (new) IP.
The good news is to forget the problematic wifi connection, head into /data/misc/dhcp/ and remove the files, reboot then connect to wifi. That flushes the DHCP lease information and life should be good.

use a program like "root explorer" or "ES file explorer" and navigate to your root folder ( / )
then follow the path /data/misc/dhcp/ , you will find the files i mentioned there.

Im reviving this thread, I have this issue also. And with my "unlimited" tmobile bandwidth of 2gb, this bug is completely screwing me over.
I quoted this post since you just claim its Android and DHCP, if thats the case, wouldnt all android phones just not work like the S5?

Hey I'm having the same issue, only with my work open wifi. The phone will be aware there is a wifi and it tells me to sign in. I go to the wifi settings and tell it to connect it does, but if it drops for any reason it won't automatically connect again, I have to go through the same thing every time.
I read this in a previous post:

I have X-plore and went to the root/data folder, but there was nothing in the data folder - Do you have to be rooted for this to work?
Any help would be appreciated.
Samsung Galaxy S5 - Koodo - Unrooted

It works fine on my home network and others that I have a username and password for. The issue is WIFI hotspots at coffee shops and work and such, where I don't have access to the router settings.
I have an app that does an auto login when it recognizes that you need to sign in once it connects to wifi, and it works when I tell the phone to connect, but the phone will never connect automatically - I have to go into the WIFI settings and tell it to connect manually every time.
I have the 'Smart Network Switch" unchecked, and I have 'forgotten' and reconnected several times but it still happens.

I had a corrupt .keystore on my S5 and the fix I found by googling was to do a reset of the device.

Can't connect to wifi that redirects to a login page

Since the MM update (stock verizon, no root) my wife's phone cannot connect to wifi networks that have a redirect to a login screen like you see in hotels and unfortunately her work network. At first I suspected an issue with chrome so I had her clear the cache for chrome which works for exactly one login. Tried different browsers and the problem persists. I sat with the phone at a restaurant last night and after 5-10 minutes of trying to connect I finally got it to work but three different browsers and cache clearing is clearly not how this is supposed to work. Is anyone else having problems like this and has anyone found a solution? I'm about ready to throw the phone away. Also for what it's worth rooting/romming not an option on this phone due to her work software.
Some additional info, on her work network when the login attempts to redirect she gets the errror: NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID. When I was trying to get it to log in on a public network that had a redirect login page all I got was a page not available message in whichever browser I tried.
