TVIRL & Live Channels - black screen and "this video is expectantly unavailable" - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

TVIRL & Live Channels - black screen and "this video is expectantly unavailable"
This issue is killing me
I've 2 x iptv subs - Vaders and NexGenTV.
I've 2 x m3u editors - xtream-editor and epg-iptv.com
I've tried every combination of both IPTV sub and m3u editor imported into TVIRL, it doesn't matter; the result is the same
Every 10-20 seconds every channel just goes black with error message "this this video is expectantly unavailable"
If I change channel and go back., the channel will work again for maybe 10 seconds before going black again.
Thinking it might be network, but no - When I use Vaders App, no such issues. similarly no issues when I use other players for my 2 x m3u lists. It only happens within Live Channels.
Tried clearing cache and Data for both TVIRL & Live Channels apps, reloading my playlists, trying combinations of each playlist and editor
Also happens with or without VPN.
Only thing I've not done is wipe the shield, which I'm hoping is a last resort.
has ANYONE else out there seen this issue? I've contacted the dev for TVIRL and sent logs, but he can't see anything that's causing the issue.

Last seconds of an mp3 are skipped in touchflo3d player

Hi.
I've copied some of my mp3 files to the sd card of my touch hd which I just got.
Some of them are part of an audio book, where it does matter a bit more than other tracks if some parts of the file are skipped.
So I play back a track, and the last 1 to 3 seconds (I cannot tell exactly how much) of the track are skipped, but there is still spoken text in those last seconds of the track. This is very annoying as it makes it more difficult to follow the contents of the book.
Could someone test if this problem is reproducable?
Anyone got an Idea how to correct this (without going through the work and modifying the mp3 files to counteract this)?
Thanx in advance,
Lukas
i get this too
have u noticed this happens to your message tone when u get messages as well?
I usually have gta chat radio from various gta games in the background while reading and I notice this same last second skipping. Playing them in Coreplayer works fine.
You'd think that HTC would check that their software works before releasing it. I would have put playing complete files up there in the high priority list.
more details
I checked some more on a hunch and found out that the windows media player has the same problem. I think that htc uses the playback libraries of the microsoft media player in it's software. Assuming that is true, it's not directly htc's fault.
Still, this does not solve the problem, and I did not find this problem mentioned concerning windows media player 10(.3) mobile for pocket pc...
I searched if there are patches availabe, but did not find a clue to this.
Anyway, maybe someone of you has more luck?
Maybe some alternative software that makes music management and playback convenient, similar to what htc provides?
Lukas
Hm...I didnt notice the same problem on my phone using the windows media player only the touchflo player.
It sounds as if the device is blanking the audio immediately it reads the end of the track from the media. Unfortunately this isn't valid because the buffer(s) will still be full of data that hasn't been played yet. It should continue to play until the buffer is empty of valid data.
If this is true, then I would expect that the bitrate being used might influence the duration of sound lost. For example, an audio book recorded at a low bitrate for speech might lose more.

I get the same in media player, when the whole mp3 file is played it skips the last 2 seconds, but when forwarding to the last 20 secs it plays to the end. So to me it seems like some kinda crossfade effect, but cant find a way to turn it off.
any way to use/port the touchflo mp3 player from the diamond or touch pro since those phones don't seen to have that problem?
This is what htc says: Are any of you game to try it out?

Have the exact same problem but nobody seems to know, or at least be telling anyone about, a fix.
What I can confirm though is that the problem disappears when using CorePlayer.

What formats can the built in streaming player play

I have a bunch of radio channels that I love to use. Unfortunately my standard players (Pocket Music and Pocket Player) won't work. The HD2 turns off after a few minutes no matter what I set the power settings to. So I tried to stream with the built in Streaming Media Player, but couldn't get anywhere. The stations I use are OGG. what formats can this player play? Only the rather obscure RTSP from streaming media players?
Try TCPMP.
But isn't OGG a wave format?
No idea... But TCPMP doesn't work because it turns off after a few minutes, like all other third party players. But I have heard that Kinoma play doesn't do that. I may make an attempt with a trial version of that.
Yeah I've noticed this morning that it does stop playing if you turn off the screen. What works for me is to leave the screen on. It doesn't fall asleep while playing. Would that be an option for you?
Yeah, that would be an option. Just not a very good one, since it will eat the battery faster. I guess I may have to get myself an extra battery. Totally idiotic to have an error like that in such a great phone!
I don't think it's an error. I think it's some sort of timeout that the Sense player can handle (reset) but other players can't.
I have solved the problem! Turned out that it could be fixed by using the cab from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5353195 That keeps the WiFi connection alive even if the phone is suspended or whatever you want to call the "sort of sleeping" that happens when you're playing something. Now I stream until the battery dies!
Nice find!
But... isn't keeping Wifi on the whole time more energy consuming than leaving the screen on (dimmed) when playing music?
Regular music playback isn't affected of this problem. That will keep playing if you suspend. The problem is streaming, and at least for me streaming means WiFi. So it's actually a step down in power usage from having both the screen and the Wifi on to only the Wifi.
In that case you and I have different problems. My music (from the storagecard) stops playing after about 2 minutes but only if I use my bluetooth carkit to listen. If I play music on the HD2's speaker the music stops almost immediately after turning off the screen. I read that Mortplayer shouldn't have this issue.
It's probably the WiFi and the bluetooth connections that keep the HD2 alive for some minutes and after their timeout puts the phone to sleep.
There's probably a similar registry key hack that will fix that for you. I hope somebody finds it!

Hi Mastiff, what app did you find best to use with streaming radio? Would be great if you could share some setting or xml file that contain radio stations list, so that I do not need to collect them from scratch (I live in Norway too..)
Actually I think I remember you from earlier! I use Windows Media Player, "Det enkleste er ofte det beste". Of course I use Pocket Music for anything else of music (video I watch in my home theater with a 2,5 meter wide screen, not on a cell phone!). As for my sttaions I simply use a reg file that puts the few stations I listen to (I'm a boring dude, I prefer news and facts, not music programs). Make this into a reg file and import it (P3 is there before I do actually listen to Pyro sometimes...):
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\OpenUrlMRU]
"3"="http://straumr.nrk.no/nrk_radio_p3_m"
"2"="http://straumr.nrk.no/nrk_radio_alltid_nyheter_m"
"1"="http://straumr.nrk.no/nrk_radio_p2_m"
"0"="http://straumr.nrk.no/nrk_radio_p1_m"
Editing Registry... Thought some text or xml file with all settings could be kept... Anyway, I went to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences , but there is not OpenUrlMRU key there. Should I create new one? Not sure how to enter those HTTP references into registry...
No, you don't have to edit anything. The text is in the correct format to be imported, you copy from "REGEDIT" and down, with the last ". But you ned a program like Tascal RegEdit to import reg files. I didn't mention that because I'm so used to it. Sorry.
To my surprise I found out yesterday that turning off the screen while playing music over my bluetooth car stereo did not affect the music. It kept playing, while previously it stopped after a couple of minutes. I'm still using TCPMP.
And you haven't changed anything? I guess it's those HTC Gremlins again...or was that leprechauns?
Well I was forced to perform a hard reset a week ago, enabling myself to make a decent tweak list for my phone. As long as the HTC Langoliers stay away I'm OK with it . I'm still using a stock 1.66 Dutch rom.

How to guide: Orb for streaming. Through Wifi from your PC.

So I thought I start a thread giving some help to those who would like to stream content, the easy way from your home PC, without the port forwarding, firewall, and network issues (as in how the heck do I configure it).
So here goes a first try (udated1.0.3):
1. Download Orb and install (on your home PC): http://www.orb.com/en/download_orb
2. Create an Orb account.
3. Add folders to Orb's library through the controlled panel, select the type of content that Orb should expect to find in that foulder (advanced tab).
4. Make sure you have flash installed on your mobile device.
5. Browse to Orb's website and log in, do not use any of the market apps, they either will not work or quality will suck.
6. In Orbs settings (center bottom) then stream (center top), then set to flash save. (HAT TIP Melvnx)
7. Quality depends on your internet connection, both LAN and WAN along with the quality of the local wireless. I have also found it can depend on the time of day, at my college around noon everybody hits the WIFI at the same time and quality sucks.
8. (This might no longer be true) If you pause the video upon resume it will seem to play fine for a couple of seconds and then reset so you must remember how much time elapsed and backup a page and hit resume (top of page given in hours min sec) from the point you left, if you pause it again you must add the two elapsed times together to resume.
Any help expanding or fixing this guide is greatly appreciated.

6. The only Browser that I have found that works consistently is Skyfire, I have had the built in browser working but now it forces me to choose an external player which brings down the quality extremely. Skyfire will play it in the browser although it has a few issues, when you go to play it brings up a popup window that is blank, if you touch in the lower right corner of the popup it will go to full screen and play beautifully.

I have found that Orb works just fine from the stock browser but you have to go into settings and to streams and change it to flash. It will give you better quality if you stream that way instead of the default stream.

My Recorded Videos Wont Play (Doesnt Freeze, No Error Message)

I did some searching for about an hour now and haven't found anything pertaining to my problem, about a month ago i suddenly couldn't play videos that i have recorded on my phone. Theres no error message that pops up nor does the phone freeze. When i click any video file in my album it slightly expands, like normal signaling that it recognized that i clicked it, but the phone doesn't do anything. ive tried opening them in windows media player and no such luck. the player pulls the file name and says ready beneath it, i click play flashing opening for a split second. the file then switches to the next video file and does the same thing
*after posting i dug around more on windows media player and finally found an error code "source filter for this file could not be loaded" googled it and traced it to a youtube app, once uninstalled videos are back up and running*

Galaxy video player doesn't remember setting?

Does anyone have problems with the Galaxy video player not remembering its setting?
For example:
When this window pops up, I select ALWAYS but the app never remembers its setting, it's really annoying! And it pops up this window again everytime I play a video.
My friend has this same problem on her Note 3 as well. She has a Verizon version. Mine is T-Mobile. I think it's a Galaxy problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Does anyone else have this problem?
I don't know if I'm really right on this but that window pop ups for specific actions. For example if you open a video file from File Manager opening an mp4 file then select always with Video Player then it will open it always with Video Player. However, if you do the same with an for example an mkv file then it will pop-up the window again since it is not the same action. So basically you have to do the always thing for every possible action. Different scenario = different pop-up action/history.
Again not sure of this but this works for me.
It's a KitKat bug.
I have the same problem with Tapatalk, AndroZip and Youtube.
It started with the 4.4.2 update. I factory reset immediatelly after. Didn't help. It just changed the apps with the problem from Tapatalk & Quickpic to Tapatalk, AndroZip and Youtube. Reinstalling, clearing data, clearing cache, factory reset, reflash, none of it makes any difference.

Sadly, this bug occurs even when you repeat the same file over and over again, telling it 'Always' every time.
