Can you restore a whatsapp backup without re-installing it? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hello
I restored a nand backup that included whatsapp, unfortunately it didn't give me the restore from google Drive option after the sms verification, so all my medias are gone while on the cloud.
I also installed whatsapp twice between yesterday and today so I think whatsapp won't let me again for 24h that's why I wanted to see if I can restore a whatsapp Drive backup without the need of re-installing

You can, but this will install media files but not the conversations. You really need to re-install whatsapp

Nondroid or TitaniumBackup does not restore whatsapp correctly! For some reasons you should verify the account again and it would not be able to use local or cloud backup to restore them.
you should have made a backup in Google Drive before you install WA in New device, also install WA in New device from PlayStore or install from the APK then it will restore the cloud backup correctly,
FYI I've used oneplus switch for my new OP6T and I didn't select WA but it has copied it's data,

Conversations were restored byt not medias, I guess I will have to uninstall and reinstall from playstore.

Media are not backed up, they are stored locally, if you have set the WhatsApp media folder to be stored in Google cloud then you can have them again. It's one of the few apps that don't tolerate restauration. Installation is the only way to have a fully functional app.

And can you restore medias from google Drive without the uninstall reinstall thingy?

Look in Drive app if they are present, if they are there you can access them yes, on the cloud or by downloading them

Making the dive to Root... How to backup/restore data?

I've finally decided to make the dive and root my N1, and I am fully aware that it is going to wipe my device. But I've had it since launch and installed a good amount of apps and games and was wondering if there was a way to backup my apps and/or be able to restore them after the root process. I'm mostly concerned with certain games that I've been playing on it and having to start over once it gets wiped. Is there any way to go about doing that?

When I rooted mines this morning, it turns out apps are backed up then reinstalled after inputting your account info.
But just incase...download Astro File Manager, backup apps onto the SD Card, then if the apps don't reinstall like it did on mines, go download the Astro, then reinstall your apps. Just that simple.
Sorry for my noobish ways, but i just purchased my first Android device (Nexus One ) so i really know nothing.
When i wipe my phone, what gets deleted? will my contacts, songs and photos get deleted or only apps?
Contacts are synced wit your Google account. (If you allowed it)
that will be downloaded after you logon after wiping it.
Apps and settings can be synced with your Google account also.
I've lost the text messages and call log after wiping the phone. Apps were redownloaded and reinstalled
you can use wavesecure to backup your sms's and call logs. for free, If you signed up fo to their android beta in time. not sure what their current account offerings are. works well.

How to backup photos during flashing Rom

I'd like to know how I can backup and restore all my photos and movies on my device when I flash a new ROM?
I understand Titanium pro will let me restore all my apps in one go but what about my photos and files?

flashing ROMs and wiping data doesn't touch your storage. everything will stay in its place. there is no reason to wipe your storage to flash a ROM. the only time that the storage gets wiped is when you unlock your bootloader.
To my my photos and are very important. I sync them with my google + also sync google plus with my pc and my phone. so there are 3 copies of them.. Now with that said unless you mess up your internal storage your files will always be there as said above.. But like a pc . ALWAYS backup stuff off the device.
once you have google account and google + setup.
go into settings accounts and sync.. and sync photos Instant upload .
also you could use Ti media sync . there are also others on the net such of some for picassa .
Also a new option... I use just host to host a website. Pm me your email and i can send you a invite to just cloud service they have a great picture sync app.
many options ...

[Q] Contacts backup help

I was under the impression that google kept a backup of all my contacts since I have a google account and all photos were being stored there(like iPhone does with icloud). I recently installed twrp recovery and made a backup before wiping and installing a new rom (ROM【5.0】Google Play Edition 【LRX219】 - 12-17-2014). Google does not have my contacts. Is there a way to get just the contacts back from the backup I made in twrp?
Thanks
TRoN
You can use "Nandroid Manager" from the Play Store to explore and restore specific files.
An easier option is to restore your Backup and simply export your contacts to an SD card via the contacts app, and then go back to current backup, and restore your contacts.

Questions on debloating U Firmware (Nougat)

Hi I recently am trying to upgrade to Nougat and have it rooted.
Before I update, I have backed up all my user apps with Titanium Backup
But it seems to me that some apps being preinstalled with U firmware (such as Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook etc) as system, I am not able to use Titanium Backup to restore the data for them. So I decided to get it removed from my system app and install it again on Google Play as User App.
I am not sure if its the difference of Nougat from MM, but when I used Root Explorer to have it deleted from /System/App, what I still see in Application is "Disable/Enable", same to Google Play, it shows Disable or Update. Therefore the crap is still there even if I have deleted from System/App.
Is there anybody who would tell me how Either I can restore my old data with Titanium Backup or Completely have it deleted from system to reinstall?
Cheers!
Hi I'm not sure how to fix your problem once you use titanium bavkup. But if you use samsung smartswitch and backup to external sdcard. That works very well. Then you just import backup from sdcard.

[ROOT] Need help rooting my S8 SM-G950U please!

Hello, I have been looking for a way to root my device without flashing (deleting data on my phone) because I have a lot of data that can not be retrieved through a backup such as chat data that is saved on an app's server or only gives you access to back it up within the app. I cannot open my apps right now due to a malicious APK. My apps constantly crash until I reinstall them from the app store, but upon reinstalling them I lose all my data since I deleted the app without backing up first, I still have all the apps that I want to back up, but as stated they cannot be opened. The Google Play store, Samsung, and app developers cannot do anything to help, I've already been in contact with them numerous times. I want to root my phone so that I can create a Google Drive backup of the information in the apps or be able to copy the data to paste it over a newly reinstalled app. I know something like this exists for KIK.
I have heard that towelroot and framaroot don't delete data on my device when used to root, but I wanted to come here to know for sure. So if anyone can point me in the right direction or even walk me through it I would seriously appreciate it because this has frustrated me for a month now and I want to root it so bad.
Here's my device info;
-Model: S8 SM-G950U
-One ui version: 1.0
-Android 9.0
-Baseband version: G950USQU8DUA2
-Android security patch level: December 1, 2020
-Carrier: Sprint
Thank you for your time and assistance.

Apps like this often install adware on your phone afterwards, so make sure to reflash ROM afterwards.
You don`t need root to copy non-system-related files. So make a backup of folder of your apps and after you will reflash ROM, install these apps and swap data.
Also, I don`t know any app that wouldn`t restore your messages after you reinstall it. Can you name me your messenger so I can try it myself to be sure?
Another option is to install antivirus.

I created a backup with Smart Switch, but I am not that confident in that backup. From what I've seen it backs up most of the data, but I don't know how chat data from messaging apps are handled with backups. Is there a more precise backup that copies over all data exactly as it was on my phone in this current state with all accounts logged into as I am now?
The apps I am concerned for their data are LINE, HelloTalk, KIK, and songs I saved with Shazam since I never linked an account to it. WhatsApp used to be on this list, but a friend told me that WhatsApp locally saves its data to the device's storage so I was able to backup the data just by reinstalling WhatsApp and restoring from internal storage.
It was directly stated that LINE data would not be backed up through Samsung Switch. If you could make an account on these apps, send some messages, and do a backup and restore to see if the messages transfer I would be grateful. I also have no idea if Shazam songs that were found without an account can be transferred as well.
I am sorry, I don't have a Samsung device. What you can do is go to your file manager and copy all folders you see to external storage. Then, after reflashing ROM, get data of wanted messaging apps back by pasting it to internal storage.
What about antivirus?
