Hi I recently am trying to upgrade to Nougat and have it rooted.
Before I update, I have backed up all my user apps with Titanium Backup
But it seems to me that some apps being preinstalled with U firmware (such as Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook etc) as system, I am not able to use Titanium Backup to restore the data for them. So I decided to get it removed from my system app and install it again on Google Play as User App.
I am not sure if its the difference of Nougat from MM, but when I used Root Explorer to have it deleted from /System/App, what I still see in Application is "Disable/Enable", same to Google Play, it shows Disable or Update. Therefore the crap is still there even if I have deleted from System/App.
Is there anybody who would tell me how Either I can restore my old data with Titanium Backup or Completely have it deleted from system to reinstall?
Cheers!
Hi I'm not sure how to fix your problem once you use titanium bavkup. But if you use samsung smartswitch and backup to external sdcard. That works very well. Then you just import backup from sdcard.

I have the latest version of JJ installed on the phone, but want to upgrade to Swedish Spring. I've downloaded Titanium Backup (free version).
Is it simply a matter of selecting the apps I want to save data for? Most important are numbers and SMS - what do need to look for in the app list? I understand that everything will be saved on the SD card.
When the backup is done I guess I simply copy across the fw for Swedish Spring to the SD card root, reboot, enter xrecovery and install. Then I root etc, but I don't have to reinstall xrecovery and Busybox again right?
Finally, I reinstall Titanium and restore - do I need to download the app off Market first, or will Titanium reinstall that as well?
Many thanks!
Using a Gmail account all contacts will be held on your account and when flash they get synced
SMSBackup+ on the market is best solution for sms as has auto backup to Gmail
Re: Software backup via Titanium
Don't reapply system/settings backups with Titanium on different ROMs as will cause issues.
Hope that helps.
Hi,
I need to backup my apps and data, contacts and messages. I used to backup with GO Backup, and it worked flawlessly up to android 4.4, but now on LP and M I can not use it anymore. It was very simple and as soon as I restored my backups everything was back to normal (I didn't even need to login or register again in apps like instagram or whatsapp...). Now I use Titanium, but after restoring backups, I should login to every app, which is troublesome and it can not backup contacts and messages.
I was wondering what app you use with LP or M for backups, and if it is as simple and effective as GO Backup ?

I have the last version, I think it's 3.51. It can not backup apps and data, I've given go backup root permissions, but when it starts, an error is being shown, saying that go backup can not read or write sd card. do you know anyway around it ?

Hi
i´m facing a problem whith Titanium Backup.
I backuped my apps under Nougat LOS14.1 , which i wanted to take with to any Oreo Rom.
after flashing of several Oreo Roms , i didn´t get any App to restore under Oreo.
Titanium Restore still stand 0% and did not anything.
Is this a known Problem, that Apps from Nougat can not restored under Oreo?
Not a known problem that I know of. Well, used to be. When going from Marshmallow to Nougat.
I use TiBu on all Oreo ROMs. Originally anything restored was from Nougat backups.
I take it you're only trying to restore some user apps. No system apps which is a bad idea. Also, not sure if Oreo's change in the naming of items in /data/app/ have any bearing. Maybe not. TiBu would just dump the restored apks there instead of in subdirectories.
If possible, I would suggest installing the apps normally (Play Store, apk, etc.) then restore the data with TiBu. Some apps can be easily reconfigured so it's best to be selective.
Another issue you might come across is device ID. Has Titanium Backup shown a dialog about the backups being from a different device ID? If so, normally you can choose the previous and be good, otherwise data might not restore.
Oreo has changed how it deals with Device ID. TiBu can't make the change. Existing device ID changing tools don't work either.
This one does, on a per app basis...

If you get everything squared away and data restored onto Oreo, create a different Oreo-only backup destination.
Moto G5S Plus XT1806, AOSiP 8.1 ROM, microG (NoGapps), MultiROM, Tapatalk 4.9.5
no dialog about different Device ID
i tried only User Apps to restore, no System Apps
the way with only App Data is a good advice , i will give it a try

The auto install mode on titanium. Backup doesn't work on Oreo, U need to change that to Interactive ( Preferences> App processing mode) change from auto to Interactive, But this will ask install permission per app which can be a lengthy process especially if u have large no. Apps to restore but something is better than nothing
I've had no trouble whatsoever restoring apps and their data with TiBu. But I only restored user apps. Could have something to do with your root solution, probably Magisk. Or SELinux interfering. I use SuperSU on Oreo and all root apps work as expected.
I have TB example in latest AEX. Installed new version of google play services, and it was FCing. I tried to restore previous version from TB, and it did it, at least I thought so. TB didn't give any error message. When I looked in settings>apps and the version of GPServices was not the one from TB, but the one that was giving me problems. Eventually I manually installed the proper version of GPServices. I suspect it could be Magisk 16.0, which is what I am using for root. Non system apps get restored correctly.
Hello
I restored a nand backup that included whatsapp, unfortunately it didn't give me the restore from google Drive option after the sms verification, so all my medias are gone while on the cloud.
I also installed whatsapp twice between yesterday and today so I think whatsapp won't let me again for 24h that's why I wanted to see if I can restore a whatsapp Drive backup without the need of re-installing
You can, but this will install media files but not the conversations. You really need to re-install whatsapp
Nondroid or TitaniumBackup does not restore whatsapp correctly! For some reasons you should verify the account again and it would not be able to use local or cloud backup to restore them.
you should have made a backup in Google Drive before you install WA in New device, also install WA in New device from PlayStore or install from the APK then it will restore the cloud backup correctly,
FYI I've used oneplus switch for my new OP6T and I didn't select WA but it has copied it's data,
Conversations were restored byt not medias, I guess I will have to uninstall and reinstall from playstore.
Media are not backed up, they are stored locally, if you have set the WhatsApp media folder to be stored in Google cloud then you can have them again. It's one of the few apps that don't tolerate restauration. Installation is the only way to have a fully functional app.

And can you restore medias from google Drive without the uninstall reinstall thingy?
Look in Drive app if they are present, if they are there you can access them yes, on the cloud or by downloading them
Hello, I have been looking for a way to root my device without flashing (deleting data on my phone) because I have a lot of data that can not be retrieved through a backup such as chat data that is saved on an app's server or only gives you access to back it up within the app. I cannot open my apps right now due to a malicious APK. My apps constantly crash until I reinstall them from the app store, but upon reinstalling them I lose all my data since I deleted the app without backing up first, I still have all the apps that I want to back up, but as stated they cannot be opened. The Google Play store, Samsung, and app developers cannot do anything to help, I've already been in contact with them numerous times. I want to root my phone so that I can create a Google Drive backup of the information in the apps or be able to copy the data to paste it over a newly reinstalled app. I know something like this exists for KIK.
I have heard that towelroot and framaroot don't delete data on my device when used to root, but I wanted to come here to know for sure. So if anyone can point me in the right direction or even walk me through it I would seriously appreciate it because this has frustrated me for a month now and I want to root it so bad.
Here's my device info;
-Model: S8 SM-G950U
-One ui version: 1.0
-Android 9.0
-Baseband version: G950USQU8DUA2
-Android security patch level: December 1, 2020
-Carrier: Sprint
Thank you for your time and assistance.

Apps like this often install adware on your phone afterwards, so make sure to reflash ROM afterwards.
You don`t need root to copy non-system-related files. So make a backup of folder of your apps and after you will reflash ROM, install these apps and swap data.
Also, I don`t know any app that wouldn`t restore your messages after you reinstall it. Can you name me your messenger so I can try it myself to be sure?
Another option is to install antivirus.

I created a backup with Smart Switch, but I am not that confident in that backup. From what I've seen it backs up most of the data, but I don't know how chat data from messaging apps are handled with backups. Is there a more precise backup that copies over all data exactly as it was on my phone in this current state with all accounts logged into as I am now?
The apps I am concerned for their data are LINE, HelloTalk, KIK, and songs I saved with Shazam since I never linked an account to it. WhatsApp used to be on this list, but a friend told me that WhatsApp locally saves its data to the device's storage so I was able to backup the data just by reinstalling WhatsApp and restoring from internal storage.
It was directly stated that LINE data would not be backed up through Samsung Switch. If you could make an account on these apps, send some messages, and do a backup and restore to see if the messages transfer I would be grateful. I also have no idea if Shazam songs that were found without an account can be transferred as well.
I am sorry, I don't have a Samsung device. What you can do is go to your file manager and copy all folders you see to external storage. Then, after reflashing ROM, get data of wanted messaging apps back by pasting it to internal storage.
What about antivirus?
