Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Samsung Galaxy S10 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Galaxy S10e: When installing/updating many apps, the sides of the phone's frame(mainly on the left side) does feel warmer then I would like.
Galaxy S10: while on wireless charger and screen is on, phone overheats after 30min of use. Have to take it off wireless charger till it cools down. Disappointed. Didn't have the same issures on my Galaxy S8.
Mine has been heating up since a week or two and the phone is around a month old.
It gets warm without any significant app load and temperature range is around 32 to 38 deg C at that moment. (Checked using Accubattery app)
Also, a couple of observations from my end:
1. Usually happens when I am on 4G/LTE network. I will test on Wifi as well using the same apps.
2. Happens more while using specific apps - Reddit, Flipkart (India specific app) -- I'll try to find more universal apps and observe the pattern.
3. Network signal is poor.
4. Ambient temperature is high (Peak summers here in India)
I did a "Wipe Cache Partition" 2-3 days back after reading some articles online - didn't help though.
Battery and phone heating up - two things really making me wonder why I went ahead with the galaxy S10E.
Hey guys, could you add please wether you are using an Exynos or a Snpadragon phone? My researches suggest that S10/e/plus tend to get warmer/hotter with Exynos processor.
I had an exynos s10e that went warm/got with low load. I did send it back. I am considering buying a G9700

Everyone I know who owns any model S10 has complained about overheating. I hope this isn't going to be another Samsung battery debacle.
I have a s10 Exynos using mine without a case and can confirm it does get warm. Coming from using a oneplus 6 and more recently a Huawei mate 20 pro this is not acceptable. Am not even playing games just twitter, fbook and ebay. I dare to think how hot this is going to be when I game on the phone. Does anyone know if the s10 plus has the same issue?

For what it's worth, I have Snapdragon and have never had my s10 get even remotely hot. Seems like an Exynos issue?

Yea, that was exactly the problem I was having. I didn't do anything fancy, just taking some pictures, browsing, checking messages and the phone would heat up notably. Under load it really gets got on the sides. It might be better with the S10+, but I wouldn't bet on it if it has an exynos.

Yea this seems like an exynos problem. I already sent back my S10e and I am looking to buy a G9700 (S10e with a snapdragon). Really sucks though, I do not understand why Samsung is doing this. the Snapdragon is better in almost every regard. I actually would not care that much if it there wouldn't be any heat problems
I have a s10+ exynos and I can confirm overheating issue......i do normal job (face, messanger, viber and texting) and my phone got pretty hot on the left middle corner on the back.....im dissapointing

We in Eu do not have that kind of opportunity to buy snapdragon here. I would love to have it though.

Not sure what problems you are all having. S10e Exynos here and no heating problem. The only time phone gets hot is when playing Asphalt 9 with 60FPS setting enabled (but it's expected because graphics are super high end for a phone). During normal app usage there is no heat at all!
Using Exynos S10 I can confirm overheating with bluetooth music listening in spotify over celluar network, can't say the same about game, yes it heats but maybe tolerable, but its not super normal either

Hi XDa'ers...
I'm sorry to say I've just had it with this phone. The awesome camera was the main reason I switched my Galaxy S4 to this. The promise of wireless charging was awesome. The sd card of course made it the only current flagship worth considering. The promotion of an extra leather back + battery just sweetened the deal.
But then...
1st G4 - Camera had a distinct pink tone. The wireless charging was iffy at first, and then completely broke down. Exchanged for a new one.
2nd G4 - Wireless charging was iffy. I attempted to downgrade the bootstack and it bricked (first one on XDA to report this fun fact which I warned everyone else about)--okay, this one's on me.
3rd G4 - Refurb warranty replacement had a broken camera which could not focus past 2 feet. Sheesh.
4th G4 - Out of the blue, wifi is suffering from a ridiculous on/off cycle which is likely hardware failure related. The phone is 2 months old! My problem specifically is that it turns on and does find wifi signals, but then turns off. Then turns on again. Repeat.
It's similar to these threads, but not exactly, as the wifi does turn on, it just keeps turning itself off.

I think it's been well established that the wireless charging on this phone is poorly implemented and a hardware issue. Fine, I can do without it. But to have the wifi crap out for no reason is really the last straw.
Looking to see what phone to switch out to. I'm on T-Mobile Jump on Demand, so the Android options are really only just the S6 or V10. I've yet to investigate the V10 forums--who knows what kind of crap engineering issues LG will have in store for us as the months roll on.
I had g4 and sold it to get the note 5, best decision ever. G4 camera was the main reason i took the phone but, the poor gaming performance the weak cpu didnt answer my demands and i hated the random lags.
Same here I am selling my g4, what upset me is I mailed them about unlocking bootloader, they replied me with this....
I am checking on blackberry priv

Curious to know whether your G4 variant includes wireless charging in the back itself ootb ?
In other markets you have to use the circle case or get a sticker and connect back the two pins.
In dual sim markets there are no two pins so there is no option for wireless charging at all
Not so bothered when stock charger can take this thing from 30% to full within a hour.

Which wireless charger did you use ? how well did it work with previous models with wireless charging.
LG has a good rep for wireless charging if you consider the Nexus 5. The nexus 6 made by motorola, heh, now that is more fussy. Get the impression that bigger devices are more finicky compared to smaller ones. Also flatter backs are better than curved ones. As screens get bigger those curves becomes important to make the thing feel smaller than it actually is.
Dang OP, you had some really bad luck with your g4's. Mines only actes retarded sometime when i try charging, and it thinks my charger is a usb.
Oh dear samsung...This money transaction too transparence

I too got the Note 5 switching from the G4. The lag drove me up the wall. Glad that I made the switch, note 5 has more functionality, and TouchWiz has been toned wayyyy down since the Galaxy s4, the last Samsung device I had. I would go note 5 or nexus 6p.

While not suited for everyone, Note 5 is the best phone of this year and will hold very well for next years.
Do yourself a favor, root the device and install Arter97 kernel, it fixes the sammy aggressive ram management, and enjoy the Note!

How's the battery on the note 5. sot ? run time ? mention your brightness in %.
mention how was it with stock. And then with this kernel.
Depends on your uses and what running in background.
I can get through the day easily with 30%+- remain from 7am to 8pm, 50-75% brightness, what i do is location always on, wifi+data, google sync, messages, chrome, facebook, what's up etc.
Now i also do heavy gaming since this is the only phone that cna do it right, i measured something intersting.
While forcing the phone to run at maximum speed on all 8 cores and GPU, and playing intensive game like Tekken 6 on 50-60% brightness, it will deplete to 0 after 3:30-3:40hr straight gaming at maximum frequency... which is amazing, the G4 barely held 2hr.
you won't be disappointed, specially if u come from G4.

yes G4 is bad for gamers, what drove me insane is that angry birds 2 lagged on it, and it has weak cpu that can't run tekken 6 and dark resurrection at 60fps, note 5 can do it, that is amazing of itself.
G4 had random lags at times, Note 5 does not have any of those, rarely it has unlock screen freeze, when u unlock the screen it freezes for 5 second and then do all your taps... should be resolved in new update(already resolved for some).
Note 5 overall is the best phone i ever used, screen sound quality touchwiz... all better than g4 and v10.

How will note 5 fare against the SD 820 ?
Qualcom got a bloody nose this year, they are likely to come out swinging next year. Lots of building up going on, 80k antutu bla bla.
we will see is what i say. Note 5's cpu is a 14nm i think. so qualcom is playing catch up.

1)Note 5 will fare very well against SD820, i expect SD820 multi-test score will either slightly higher than 7420 or slightly lower, the GPU will probably be 30-40% better if it won't throttle, but who knows? i have yet seen any game that bring Note 5 to it's knees, Exynos 7420 is seriously best chip Sammy ever made, and best cheap of last generation(till 8890 at least).
2)I had G4 from June 2 till 18 Aug, i didn't really measure the speed of the upload and download of both phones , but since i know my wifi speed, the G4 would miss sometimes and stopped downloading in the middle, or download very slow despite the connection was perfect, but it was inconsistent. some days it will be good, some other won't.
Note 5 has yet to do it to me, mobile data and wifi link are great.
And btw, gonna drain my battery a bit more now and send you the picture of the SOT and battery usage, the only thing that G4 does slightly better than note 5, is taking picture in low light.

How is the rom scene with exynos ?
yes you have an unlocked bootloader but how does rom development fare when exynos sources are not completely released.
The result seems to be the same with the Lg's use qualcom but lock the bootloader. I've not figured out why the rest of the world got locked out except europe. Its like they use europe as a test case and when they have other products for sale, quietly unlock the rest. I don't beleive the current situation will endure, when the door is already slightly open.

What i'm thinking is the wifi chip sammy's have been using since the S5 last year is twice as fast. Not found any one to verify that though. There have been reports of sketchy wifi on the G4, maybe some tweaking required.

very very cool
I was amazed how this phone handles games and other demanding tasks, It gets hardly any hot. Only long camera shooting warms it up. I'm used to phones that get hot during GPS, LTE connectivity, camera shooting, games ...
The OnePlus One my son uses can melt steel...
I should give him this phone ans stress test it.
Though I'm not a crazy gamer, I do have a dig at Kingdom Rush and Defense Zone for extended plays when trying to kill time, and the Mate 10 barely gets luke-warm.
Compare this to my recently-retired LG G4 which got quite hot, or my worst (heat-wise) 'phone ever, the HTC One X (that thing felt like it was going to melt just by using Google Maps for a few minutes!).
Evidently when it comes to chipsets generating heat, Kirin is better than Qualcom is better than nVidia. Don't know where Mediatek slots into this as I've never played with one for long enough to tell.

Same here. 40minutes of Shadow Fight 3 its luke warm. And runs crazy smooth with no noticeable throttling as some reviewers mentioned...cinsidering it's one of most demanding GPU games out there.
Sd821 in comparison is oven hot in same scenario.
I wouldn't say it gets very hot but playing an hour or two of Angry Birds 2, the device can get quite warm...
Cpu doesn't get hot at all but gpu is a power hungry monster that heats a lot g72mp12 has great performance but only for 10 minutes after that in gets hot and you would get a slow gpu (something like snap 805)
Noticed the phone gets hot when I am using camera. Is this normal or have I not used camera enough before to notice? The flash is off too

I agree with you 100% , I had LG G4 and also Samsung Galax S4, and both of them used to run Super hot compared to my Huawei Mate 10 lite. The moment i turn on LTE 4G phone would get hot! Making it the worst phone to ever have ( Oh LG G5 is famous for chipset failure ). I was amazed with the difference and was really surprised, as Huawei is supposedly a less inferior brand, compared to monstrous Samsung who's popularity is sky high.
I contemplate as to what could the reasons be, and finally concluded it's the Core-Chipset , Unforunately, Snapdragon, Mali, Qualcomm , all the chipsets from these manufacturers runs Hot, in whichever Phone they might be in, S5, S6, S8, S10. Searching online mostly all phones with these chipsets are famous for heating up like a desert.
Now i am never going back to Snapdragon!
Whilst I am NOT defending Samsung and believe there is much to be improved, I do have the Mi 10 Pro with the Snapdragon 865 for a reference point. The Mi 10 Pro as you will be aware runs at 90hz and for me and my observations battery life is comparable and I'm running the ultra at 120hz.
As for performance & heat issues I decided to play an hour of PubG on the Ultra and another hour on the Mi 10 and again maybe slightly more heat on the Exynos but nothing to worry me personally. I can't say I noticed a difference in Gameplay but didn't run side by side or done a FPS count, that aspect I guess the 865 would lead, but I didn't have any issues on the Ultra in terms of playability.
I do recommend Samsung take notice and use ARM architecture on the Exynos 1000, and hope that this will resolve the complaints.
Maybe I got lucky with my chip, but honestly I can't complain as I'm not experiencing the issues that seem to plauge others.
Just showing and sharing my experience whist not defending the 990 entirely......:good:

Me too i don't deffend Samsung. But it is cruical that customer don't have any issues.
Put in side fps variation in games or better score in antutu it just isn't necessery for regular customer. He will not notice it.
I played games, record 4k 60fp 8k videos absolutley everyting also played games on charger because i wanted to know it there is any issue with thermal throtling or anything else.
And for camera with every update is better as well as battery life.I'm satisfied with my S20 Ultra Exynosm Brutal camera btw and brutal zoom
This is mine opinion after almost month with my phone.
Edit:
Also i updated myself camera app from 10.0.02.7 to 10.0.03.4 and its superfast shuter and auto focus.Overall its much much better.

Yeah I get the argument between performance of the 865 vs 990 and same price point. All I am saying is that I have seen threads saying the Cameras are Garbage, they really aren't, but yes should be better (Autofocus) which has improved for me.
The phone heats up, well I play long sessions of PubG and haven't noticed anything erratic.
I'm not debating the 990, I would also prefer the 865, but I'm most certainly not experiencing ALL of the aforementioned complaints in regards to this SOC.

Don't have a device with SD to compare....all those issue that are mentioned i see on Youtube or read on various pages ... those 20% better in performance that are displayed on various benchmark tests in favor of SD processors i don't even notice in everyday use ... such tests mean nothing to me .... still my device with exynos that i use is super fast in any sense, smooth, etc....

There's a custom recovery now. Soon we'll see custom roms and kernels and both should improve performance/battery life for the exynos. Some, if not all SD will be stuck with Samsung updates forever..
Is there a way to install system apks like camera unrooted?
Personally i play pubg like 3 to 4 hours on one single time with my friends, framerates never drops and the phone is not hot like burning hot, its hot but normal.. as a référence i have thé iphone 11pro max heats more than my phone actually so i think its good..
Guys with positive feedback about exynos, where do you live? I live in Saudi and currently it's the best weather we had this year, and room temperature is 24°and my phone get warm during casual tasks and heats up really bad and drop frames while gaming (all of this while I'm on Wi-Fi), when I turn LTE it is much worse and much warmer, when I turn 5G it stay up for few minutes then heat up then fall back to 4G (I have excellent 5G and 4G signal)

I'm so tired of people falsely claiming exynos is fine in gaming.
You can see a lot of video proofs on YouTube that exynos is trash for gaming and there's no way it can maintain 60fps in pubg mobile for extended playing sessions
If you can't tell the difference between stable 60fps and frequent drop to 40fps it's your problem, don't say it's fine.
At this point I really want someone show me a video proof of exynos running pubg mobile at 60fps for 1 hour. Then I can shut my fxxk up. But until now I see none.

Same. The pro max also reduces brightness by 50%
Tbh, the s series is not a gaming phone. Get a gaming phone for gaming.
There is more to life than gaming. There is no perfect phones out there. Each has its unique qualities.
Gaming phones don't take photo well.
To this date samsung phones, at least s and note series is a well balanced phone. Not the best on gaming, photos, ui.. But it's well balanced and do each rather well.
Not to mention the dual messenger and excellent audio it can reproduce.. If you have a decent headset. The adaptive sound is perfect when tuned using the headset of your choice and I have several.. And a profile set for each device. When i change i change the profile.

When I was in saudi, yanbu, the phone is hot as heck probably due to the constant search for better network.
Was in mobifly or mobily or something like that.

So, I'm seriously considering the OP8pro over my current s20+. While the Samsung is nice, I find myself restarting the phone at least twice a week due it to crashing on apps like maps, waze, android auto, texting. This alone is irritating to say the least. Especially when on a road trip and your using AA and everything goes wonky. I've seen several videos, read the forums, etc etc...seems the OP has some issues but maybe some of it has been fixed? Anyone have experience with both devices and able to give me some feedback? I know I'm going to miss the AOD but OP says its coming. Some threads say the phone gets hot, bad battery drain and lackluster camera especially at night? But I love the oxygen software too. One UI is nice, but like I said, restarting the phone is a pain the the fingerprint sensor is garbage.
Any input would be helpful, thanks.

a week ago I switched fm S20+ to OP8pro
s20+ was exynos though
Anyhow, I have no overheating problems and battery life is great.. currently I'm on 6h 40 min SOT with 21% juice left (4g + wifi, FHD+/120Hz ), so in theory I should reach 8hrs easily
S20+ would give me around 6hrs to 6.5hrs before dying and that was on wifi during covid lockdown. Presume yr snapdragon s20+ has better batt life
OP camera so far has been great, but truth being told I did not test the camera at night. Indoors and under artificial light the phones are comparable. S20+ camera was occasionally inconsistent, sometimes photos came out really great then again sometimes not really worth of a flagship
OP8Pro screen.... what to say, it is amazing under normal or bright light conditions
but.... as many others, also I have the black band in the status bar.. it is noticable only with certain darker backgrounds (grey...) and at minimum screen brightness..so I do not notice it during normal use, but it bothers me knowing it is there
Don't think many people here changed from S20+ to OP 8 PRO but i might help a bit since coming from a long journey with several Samsung's family in the past. ( S9+ my last one)
Never had any crashes with maps, waze or texting (never used android auto). You tried cleared cache on those apps ?
Not saying Samsung is good (or bad) .
On the OP8 Pro, don't have any drain and heating i consider normal when your pushing processor with games or GPS. ( related to S9+ )
There are complains all over the internet with any devices. Most people only post bad things but this alone doesn't make the phone bad (remember the huge number of people like myself with no problems at all don't come here saying good things )
Thank you guys for your inputs. It helps. Ordering me the Pro right now.
Had both S20+ and S20 ultra although both exynos I went straight back to 8 pro , Samsung's this time round just way off the mark total rubbish in my opinion [emoji28]

Wise choice! Your going to enjoy the ride...
Ordered the ultra, didn't come.
Saw the 8pro on three, got it, world's apart, it's just a better phone.
Rapid and great stamina. Plus it looks great. I can't fault it.
Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Good speed, but not as fast as the regular S20. I don't do any heavy gaming, but some apps open slightly slower with the FE. Reduced RAM?
Just bought it and quite disappointed with its battery and speed
Using a Dual-SIM Exynos FE 6/128: G780F/DS.
Speed is great so far, but this is my first modern "flagship" phone though, so can't really compare it to anything.
Screen on time is not great though. 4.5 hours after a week of use.
I have no issues thus far with speed

very slow. I'm so disappointed. my note 10 was faster. despite the 120hz (which feels incredible) the inconsistency gives me literal actual nausea. the frame rate stays at 120hz for 0.2-0.5s at first during scrolling then drops down to 30-20fps... when I set it to 60hz it's obviously slower but i prefer it because it just feels more consistent. it's nicer on the eyes.. very sad and dissapointing.

It's 5g so I think it's snapdragon. My brother was the one who actually got it and said it but the package doesn't say 5g. The model number is G870f/ds. And had 128gb of storage and 8gb of ram
The major horrible lag went away after letting the phone sit on the table for some time. It was very new at the time. It still lags but it's usable now. It has the good old samsung/xiaomi (I never used a non samsung/xiaomi android phone since other phones are not available here) stuttering. When I scroll there's like 3-4 frames that daty stuck for 200-100ms. It's very noticable but nothing like the mess it was at first (I had literal nausea using it)
Is the snapdragon that much better really btw?
Overall the smoothness is nowhere near a 3 year old iphone x with 80% battery health (my brother uses his a ton.) But the higher refresh rate is sooo nice. It's hard to say which I prefer but the iphone feels better honestly
It's just sad to see a great 120hz panel ruined slightly by bad software

If you've just installed all the apps you're using on your new phone, of course it's going to take a few hours to days for everything to settle down, as well as a few other restarts. Then it only makes sense to comment on his behavior.
Installing everything you had on your previous phone at the same time is not the best course of action. By gradually adding one application at a time, you can more easily detect one that has a serious problem, for example, with the A11, or with the phone itself.
However, if you are lagging without installing other apps, something is completely wrong.

Strange. For me, my new Samsung (Snapdragon 865, 6/128GB) is the smoothest phone I've ever had. My previous phone was Asus ZenFone 6 (Snapdragon 855, 6/128GB).

I'm not sure what you mean by plugging but I installed cpu z and it's actually exynos ( it's been a day and a restart yesterday and honestly still. It lags but it's usable. I'll upload a video on youtube. If you're interested reply so I'll get a notification about it (it's gonna take a bit to upload)
Have you ever used a new iphone? Iphone x or newer. My iphone X was sooo smooth in comparison. Not to mention the far lower latency (input delay.) Overall the phone felt nicer on my eyes and brain to use despite the 60hz. But it wasn't as "fluid" as this one. But the consistency made up for it. And not to mention the thoughtful detailed animations that follow your fingers acceleration and speed etc.
I've been spoiled by an iphone x before and I'm quite sensitive to stutter tbh!
EDIT:
this is the s20 fe. now that I see it in slow motion it's embarrassingly awful. I'm uploading a slow motion of proper 120hz without stutter too.
> I installed cpu z and it's actually exynos
Then this wasn't true and you only have the 4G version (SM-G780F):

Yeah sadly the person at the store either made a mistake or lied to my brother. I wasn't there to confirm
But the video I attached shows the issues. It's outright embarrassing that samsung is this bad still. It takes actual skill to make such a fast processor this slow.
If you check my channel you can see what proper 120hz looks like in comparison. I was too lazy to attach the videos
activate your developer options @AmyTheBun by going to settings / about phone / software ...and tap on the build number 7 times in a row. this gives you an extra menu called developer options. inside that, near the top you'll see running services.
click running services after the phones has become slow and see what's using CPU and ram.
your phone performance is not normal. if it's not something like an old out of date app causing problems I'd take that phone back for a refund.

smart pass was on the top. nothing special was using too many resources.
the video was in slow-motion btw.
oh and mine is exynos... we have no other choice where I live. not even a single snapdragon model!
I had the 5g version of the fe, it was complete **** so much it was slow. I instantly sold it back. Lots of stuttering, my old s9 was feeling faster (in Android). I then tried the 4g version of the s20 fe (exynos) and was surprised by how snappy it was. The menus where opening quickly, swaping between apps was a breeze. I was impressed.
So there sure is a rat under the carpet with Samsung, maybe software problems, maybe cpu/hardware/chipset problems, maybe both.
I have the 5G/Snapdragon version (recent firmware) and it's fast enough. The 120 Hz screen is smooth, all apps running smoothly including those with heavy JS graphics, which were garbage on my previous phone, A6.
