Can i downgrade to nougat from Oreo with bootloader 3 - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I was on nougat until the other night i believe my dog stepped on the update button because it comes up all the time and i usually ignore it. I want to get back to nougat(phone is unuseable on oreo)and root so this never happens again. I just paid it off also. Please give me a hand.
Edit:bootloader v3

Nope it's patched might as well use pie beta now
No root and no downgrade. Have to get another rev 2 since if you want root again or wait to see if it ever becomes available on rev or higher

Sucks so bad. Ive held off that update since i bought it and woke up in the morning to 8.0. Just paid it off also. Now its not even worth that much. Definitely my last flagship and last Samsung.

The guys from one of the safestrap root threads are saying I can get back to nougat as long as I am not past v5 bootloader. Have you heard anything about this?

If you are a regular s8 no. The combination file is a nougat system but is not functional as a everyday driver. This device prevents downgrading so yes technically if you flash the combination. It is a 7.0 base but no apps full of bugs. Heat. Crappy battery. No play store no nothing. Combination files are Samsung test imgs again not usable systems. So whoever is telling you this they can tell me too cause unless they said the same as this they are rolling off crap.
If you own a s8+ you posted in the wrong section and yes you can flash the rooted system. Or whatever they use til at least rev 3 bootloader.

Yes I was in the wrong forum. Thanks for the info. I used chat alot with ya on the telegram s8+ channel. Did you ever root yours? What allows the S8+ to be able to go back to nougat using the safestrap/samfail method? I was under the impression the phones were very similar hardware/software wise. Im just happy I can go back to nougat. I hate oreo.

Yeah my s8 had been rooted since like day 5 of having it. They either skipped or just messed up on patching the +. Past to me shows they don't patch the best model. I've seen it with several lgs. Samsung's. The plus models always get more attention.
Yeah I gave up that group, the management and I didn't see eye to eye. Now I run my own ????

Can you pm me your telegram? I'd love to be a part of one again. Thanks again for all your replies.

Yes, and that is to be expected, since root trips the custom flag.
I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect you'll be waiting a looong time for CM on the S6, given the exynos processor and locked Bootloader (on our ATT version).

I can wait. With removing a lot of bloat and junk crap my phone is much faster. I notice free ram is a lot more. Faster boots without having to auto start all the junk. I'm good for now.
Just the post I was looking for. Downloading the 235.96 MB update right now.
Lol CM? They cant even perfect or at least provide decent ROM for their 1+1 and Yureka phone what more on the latest hardware. By the way I own the 1+1 and its buggy even the official releases. Im not saying Sammy software isnt buggy its jusT CM is worst.

Downgrading to 6.0

Is there a way to downgrade from 7.0 to 6.0 even though out the box the V20 comes running 7.0?

1. The v20 doesn't have 6.0 Firmware
2. If it did have it and you were on 7.0 Firmware then downgrading would actually brick your device.
Why? Because LG incorporated an "Anti_Rollback" counter. You can see it in the 'Hidden Menu'.
i.e. If MM was Anti-Rollback #1 and Nougat Anti-Rollback was #2 there would be no going back. You can only flash/upgrade/restore firmware/Roms with the same Anti-Rollback number. So if you take an OTA and it switches to 3 then any Roms or Backups or even Firmware Packages that are lesser than that you can No longer use.
Good Luck.

Thanks, that summed it up for me [emoji106] [emoji106]
I just bought a v20 off eBay. It was already on h91810r version I just bumped it back to h91810p which is 2 versions back with no issue and got to h91810k and it rejected it so I guess that's that. No root or custom recovery for me. Lg played us dirty.

10k is the last version with ARB=0 (anti-rollback). Any firmware update that followed was ARB=1.
If you buy a V20 off of eBay, your best bet is to not buy it from an individual because they will probably have used it right up until the time of auction, meaning they will probably have installed the latest updates. Mobile phone resellers that sell them in lots are a better bet.
I got mine last week and it was on 10j. You bet I made sure it was not going to be connected to the Internet before I was done rooting.

For what it's worth. I think the anti rollback thing is mainly T-Mobiles fault since I believe the T-Mobile model is the only one that has anti rollback activated on it.
I tried getting it to h918k but it failed. And I did buy it from a seller not a everyday Joe. That's why I was pissed when I seen it was h91810r I was like WTF I'll brick it and send it back.

Unfortunately, it's still a luck of the draw. A mobile phone reseller might have gone ahead and put the latest updates on it, but that's not always the case. If an individual is selling their V20, they probably didn't keep it locked away for the last year before deciding now is a good time to sell it.
Anyway, you should keep a watch on this thread. There is hope, but it won't be instant gratification.

Yah I figured in the near future it would see full root and full working twrp. The bottom line is I like the damn phone, it works perfectly ( for a LG ) it's a big step up from the v10. But the power button if faulty you have to just about put your finger through the phone to get it to activate and that's a pain in the ass when your doing the combo to get into DL mode or fastboot.
Then the power button alone issue would be good enough reason to get a return or exchange.
Unfortunately the seller has about 20 of these devices mainly all t mobile but there all messed up or in terrible condition. I paid 130$ for this and it's mint except that button. He's got a 90$ parts phone that's unlocked but has a botched charger port and I bet it's sitting on h91810j or older firmware. There's root in sight.

Possible to downgrade from Nougat?

I would love to try out Nougat so I can decide if it's worth it for me to switch from rooted U firmware. But if I decide I would rather have root, I'd like to be able to go back. I figure at this point somebody has tried it.
Edit: Searched a bunch of threads and found 2 people saying they've done it. Good enough proof for me.
I went from U to Tmo Nougat and hated it. It's not as smooth, I lost the built in white pages with spam telemarketer detection and the bloat.... all the bloat that couldn't be removed (thanks to that great pdp license activation not working). I am going to wait for the Nougat U firmware release.

I guess I'll just have to try and see if I like it. The only thing is that I HATE not having root. I preordered my S7E and had to wait months for root, that was actual hell lol.

G935U Nougat

Hi All,
I'm a little confused as to where us U firmware users stand with Nougat. I've seen differing reports of what the known plan is with this. I believe some are saying we're waiting for Verizon to release it to the 935u, otherwise I'm reading that we're on a quarterly update schedule and won't be seeing anything until April.
I bought my 935V from VZW and flashed over to unrooted U firmware - actually by using the normal flash method and then doing a firmware restore from verizon's utility to get full unroot. Not exactly a typical method, but it gave me peace of mind knowing everything is completely stock U.
Everything is running great so I'm not in urgent need of an update for any reason, but would like to see some new features.
Lemme know if anyone has any clues here as for what to expect. Thanks in advance!
Not exactly sure what you mean by going full "unroot".. unless you ment, you wanted the U firmware for a smoother "root" can you please clarify bubby?

But anyway, lol. You are correct of the U FW being released somewhere around April. Verizon isn't responsible for U firmware, Samsung is.. I'm actually surprised Verizon released before U

Good to know. Thanks.
I had to root in order to flash U FW, but the root process we have for GS7 is really process heavy and battery draining. I wanted an unrooted version of the U firmware with no bullsh*t and good battery life so I unrooted and restored using the software tool.

Ah Gotcha, sorry I misunderstood the op. Maybe give the T or V carrier FW a spin till U gets released? I haven't upgraded yet but am tempted. Been using stang 5.0 rom and been pretty impressed. I'd say I would recommend it even with the faults of the eng boot.
I also believe I seen a "no root no bull**** playstore Nougat rom" by jkruse, or something to that effect. If that's something your into
Lots of cry babies over in the Samsung forums. I can see why everyone is so upset but Samsung never promised faster updates for unlocked variants over carrier models. I'm content waiting at least until April for the nougat release of the 935u. Screw Verizon bloat. It's not worth putting up with it for Nougat.
There are some articles with Samsung's new commitment for monthly security updates on unlocked devices. This should mean that the 935U will get Nougat this month with March security update.

Well, sorta agree with you. I'm patiently waiting for the U update to 7.0, but in the mean time I'm running the Verizon update on a backup device. I can't really enjoy 6.0.1's UI after having Grace UX.

Smart Switch PC can also do an in-place update to 7.0. It's the April security patch.
I've downloaded the nougat U firmware and can't get it to install over the latest VZW firmware, the one that came out in the last few days. Has anyone been able to, if so please outline your steps.

I would flash the full Odin package for U 6.0 and then use Smart Switch PC to update to 7.0.

Yes i have the original UDP and the tethering option works. How ever i cant get the verizon video calling to work??
So from what I'm getting, to install (if I'm on Verizon Nougat), flash Unlocked 6.0 first, then smart switch to 7.0? Also, I read that someone had been having issues with using LTE while in a phone call, can anyone confirm? And what happened to all the other fix files, since I remember the first time flashing the unlocked software required more subsequent flashes as well.

root H918 10q

Anyone thinks that root can actually be achieved?
I'm starting to think no. I'm asking only because if the majority thinks no, I'm going to grab a different device.
Its not impossible, but will take a while. Will get Oreo berore rooted 10p.
Rooted H918 10q Bounty!
We will never get Oreo. T-Mo will leave this phone as is and drop it flat in 1 more year just like the now totally unsupported g4.
I'm starting right now with a $150.00 Root Bounty on the H918-10q!

I wonder why it cannot be rooted since the bootloader is unlockable. Anyway to downgrade firmware to an earlier version that will work?
All unlocking the bootloader does is tell aboot to not verify the integrity of boot, recovery and laf. Yes, you need an unlocked bootloader to have any reasonably rooted phone, but you also need a way to flash those. T-Mobile went into full d**k mode starting with the G5 and pulled all the pertinent fastboot commands -- namely fastboot flash. Figure out a way to flash, and you can have root. I am working on reverse engineering the LAF protocol (the same thing download mode uses). If I (or someone else) can figure it out -- and it is just a matter of time -- then all LG phones that have a boot loader than can be unlocked (H918) OR have an engineering aboot (the rest of the V20s) will be rootable.
hope this is found.. I plan to keep my V20 for a while.. and would love to at least have the ability to root if I make the decision to do it.
Thanks!
right when i decided to root the phone.. now its to late lol

I think we will get oreo considering there have been many posts online saying it will come in q1 and I know people are saying they never gave us 7.1 but LG has skipped versions in the past on other phones so that's probably why and T-mobile has been giving security updates I'm on the latest November update
I'll wait to update hope they get a root for this phone on 10q.
