not installed but downloaded
My phone downloaded it but encounter error installing and didn't actually perform the install. My s6 is rooted though. Anyone rooted get same issue? I'm personally waiting for a cynagen mod, so I could care less for samsungs updates

Yes, and that is to be expected, since root trips the custom flag.
I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect you'll be waiting a looong time for CM on the S6, given the exynos processor and locked Bootloader (on our ATT version).

I can wait. With removing a lot of bloat and junk crap my phone is much faster. I notice free ram is a lot more. Faster boots without having to auto start all the junk. I'm good for now.
Just the post I was looking for. Downloading the 235.96 MB update right now.
Lol CM? They cant even perfect or at least provide decent ROM for their 1+1 and Yureka phone what more on the latest hardware. By the way I own the 1+1 and its buggy even the official releases. Im not saying Sammy software isnt buggy its jusT CM is worst.

I usually don't take OTA updates if I have any plans of rooting or keeping root.
U.S. localized versions of the latest MEA/MF2 branch of Samsung official builds.
Check over in the i9505 threads for more info. It's possible some things have been tweaked for AT&T, but probably not a whole lot.
That update will probably allow app2sd functionality, not to mention the "purple smearing" effect some have complained of, and a few other little updates.
But as the other poster said, I wouldn't flash it until it's confirmed that it doesn't patch the loki aboot exploit. Otherwise, you can say goodbye to custom roms and root.

Unfortunately the update is FORCED. In mine there was no way to not accept it. If you hit cancel it just reboots and installs anyway. So not much choice on not taking it...
It does include app2sd though. Which is nice.

Only forced if you're completely stock and un-rooted.
At a bare minimum, you should root, and freeze the appropriate OTA update apps to prevent that kinda thing.
Again, AT&T will eventually patch the loki-exploit, and possibly at the same time roll out "root defeating" kernels.
It's just a matter of time.
There isn't an option but to be completely stock and unrooted with this phone yet unfortunately.

Right. Thus my statement that we don't have a choice but to take the update on the S4 Active (right now at least).

It seems the update will only download on wifi, so if you want to avoid taking it in hopes that root comes out soon, do not use wifi.

God dang it! I wish I read this thread BEFORE accepting the update. Now I really hope AT&T or Samsung has not patched anything that prevent root.
I cannot NOT use Wifi since I have very limited data plan...
Has it ever happen in the past, at least with AT&T phone, that they send OTA update that PREVENT rooting the phone EVER?
Don't fret. We have some mighty fine developers here. You will be able to root it.

LCD screens don't suffer from the purple smearing anyway. That's just something that AMOLED screens do. No way around it except to change the colors a bit. Which was all they did for the GS4.

I never took the update (I didn't connect to wifi so it didn't force me to update) but now I want to update it. However, when I hit the update button it tells me that 'the software update was interrupted' and won't download the new FW. If I hit it again it says I have to wait another 24 hrs. I tried changing the date to a day ahead but it still failed. I was able to update the wifes phone no problem but I accepted it as soon as it notified me.
Is the above link the current FW? I see the name is UCUAMF1 but mine came with UCUAMF2 from the store... I'd rather just update the FW since it appears everyone else got forced to update but can still root it.
Edit: Phone fixed itself overnight connected to wifi.

Hey guys, as you all know the big news about how we are recieving the big android 4.4 as announced by samsung, so what do we need to do in order to prep for this release?
Heres some tips!
1. Do a full nandroid backup! Even better yet, if you know how to, convert it to a odin flashable .tar
This is so if anything goes wrong, we have some chance of fixing the device
Backup
System, data, cache, efs
2. If you dont wanna lose warranty on your device then dont bother flashing the 4.4 firmware via odin, theres a real good chance samsung implemented knox. So just wait for a dev to release a stock, rooted rom without the bootloader and knox files included.
3. If you dont care about warranty then by all means, flash the latest firmware, and when it arrives, update via odin or simply on the device itself.
So the moral here is dont flash the new bootloader until someone either confirms there is no knox. Or just wait for a dev to release a knox-free 4.4.
Take care and get ready, get set, go!
there are a two thing i worried about and that is knox and i do not expect a huge update

It is huge update but mostly under the hood changes. No cosmetic changes except the battery bar being white.
Implementation of project svelte is a huge advantage for devices having low ram.

actually ALOOT of things changed.. almost all 4.3 mods are not compatible with 4.4
1. because the android api level is higher
2. because almost every single file got a re-write

If US gets 4.4 then international certainly will as US is slower at updates than the rest of the world so theoretically the unlocked 19300 should get the updates first!

Hi All
excuse my ignorance but is it possible to flash n910T stock firmware
on n910w8 as both are snapdragon LTE varients?
So in other words I want to go from ANJ3 stock firmware to ANJ7 stock firmware..
My Note 4 is rooted with cwm recovery and I understand that i'll loose the root and
cwm recovery if I flash the stock firmware and I am totally fine with that.
Please let me know, Much appreciated!
Cheers
Anyone?
I'd hold off for now until development shows a bit more and people understand it a bit better. On the Note 3 for example you could flash any of the SNAPDRAGON N9005 ROMS on any of the devices, only difference was you had to install the kernel for your device.
EXAMPLE : Flash an N900T ROM onto your W8 would be OK but you'd have to flash the W8 kernel to get it to boot and work (wifi/signal etc).
EDIT: Just re-read, Stock isn't possible via ODIN as it changes the system and boot partitions are different, however with Custom ROMS my explanation is OK

Thanks for your detailed reply bud,
I guess i'll have to wait like you suggested. Only reason I wanted to switch firmware is because I find note 4 very laggy with the Canadian (n910w8) firmware. I know it's not my device because I've played with 3-4 different note4s and they are all the same. I've also gotten rid of most of the bloatware. Had a T-mobile note 3 prior to this and that was blazing fast with stock rom (bloatware disabled not removed). Not sure what the deal is with Note4s, i truly hope a future firmware update will fix the lag.
Cheers

Yeah but when? I am infuriated and frustrated with my Note 4. I experience lag and complete sh*t wifi performance. I feel like I've been ripped off for buying this crap that isn't even throughly tested before shipping.
Samsung announces 9.56 Billion Dollars $9,560,000,000 profit in 2013 and yet they can't make a f***king stable phone to ship. Absolutely pathetic. At least Apple patches and pushes iOS fixes literally within a week. I don't expect to see an update to the SM-N910W8 for weeks if not months from now. On the Note 3 they were few and far between.
What a waste of money (and no I can't return it store policy used over 30 minutes of talk / 50 MB of data yeah yeah canadian carriers are rape and they get away with it so don't go down that road).

Glad you confirmed that all the devices in the store are also affected. Its rarely a hardware issue despite what people say "Return it and the new one didn't have it" more or less those people just aren't perceptive enough and believe what they want.
I was wondering, I would love to switch to Sprint or tmobile but I don't get 4g coverage were I live, is there a way to make a tmobile or Sprint note 4 get 4g lte from Verizon's towers, would it be possable to flash a different radio would that work. Thanks

Can anyone confirm whether or not NK4 can be rooted freely at the moment? And if so, your method of choice? I've been hearing rumors about root-killing updates(especially in regards to Lollipop) and am hesitant to do any updating. I don't want to lose superuser access just so I can get an HD Voice icon.

I wouldn't use that unless you care to trip KNOX and give up warranty. If all you want is root to remove bloat and tweak you can without tripping.
I can say I am now on the official 4.4.4 update, rooted without knox flagged (IE still full warranty).
Runs great.
The only change I don't like is before I had WiFi calling always set to on and it would be on when I turned my WiFi on and not when Wifi was off.
Now if I have it on and my WiFi off, it turns my Wifi on randomly or on reboots, even if it was prior off.
Oh well.
Anyway. For those that want to root and keep Knox 0x0 (not tripped) it's simple.
I used Kies to update to the latest release (OTA kept giving an error that many others on sprint forum are getting).
After this I installed towelroot (don't run yet). Next I used Odin to flash the NE5 stock kernel. Ran towelroot, ran Odin to flash NK4 kernel back, after installed SU and now all is well. Full root, good performance and not knox tripped. One thing to note is that while on the NE5 kernel you will get tons of errors, just ignore them, the original kernel will fix when all done.
I don't care for custom recovery and the stock kernel honestly runs great and I can manually do any tweaks I want but have the piece of mind of not having tripped knox.
Just wanted to share though that this work around works on sprint. I know other forums mention how to do on other providers etc.
**update**
I posed the files I used in another thread (as seems we have duplicate topics). So if anyone needs the kernels I got em already converted to tar and ready to go.

Yea, I've been fighting hard to avoid tripping it for the moment. I mean I guess when all said and done I don't care TOO much, but for now if I can root without tripping I will do it. (resale value also higher if not tripped so might get new phone in March).
I imagine this work-around won't work when 5.0 comes out as the kernel is changing too much so unless someone finds a new exploit to root without knox trip I will probably end up tripping it upon official 5.0 lol but until that time I have some piece of mind if anything stops working.
I'm actually fine with stock I just hate all the damn bloat they put on it so have to root to ditch it all. I don't know why they don't just make it so we can uninstall whatever we want...
Is there any reason to update to this? I might just skip and wait for Lollipop.

Performance, bug fixes etc. etc.
Remember this is already a skipped update. Sprint skipped 4.4.3.
It also includes new modem firmware among other things.
The wait game could be a bit. I don't expect Sprint to get 5.0 until around the time the S6 is releasing. Samsung is almost done with it but it takes months before Sprint will pump it out. Do you think they would have bothered with 4.4.4 if this was going to be out in a month?
I see no reason why one would wait? Nothing is lost, root is still possible. It may also be a prep for 5.0. Maybe they are using it as a firmware stepping stone. Who knows. I wouldn't bother waiting.

So you think we won't get Lollipop until April when we already have a leaked (pretty damn stable) build?? I'm sorry but that is straight up idiotic. We will have Lollipop by the end of Dec-Jan.
As of now there is no towelroot for 5.0 so you might have to. Xposed also doesn't work and might be a while before its able to run on the new platform.
I'm running the 5.0 leak now, we will definitely have Lollipop by Jan at the latest, I think more like late Dec

Might not be April but it won't be by February or probably March even.
The key word you said is "Leaked"...
Sprint had 4.4.4 builds in testing for months also, they just don't always leak out.
Just because you have a non-production version doesn't make it magically release sooner.
If you look around you will notice Sprint is generally a tad slower on some releases at times. This is because they like to wait and see what other providers do and also avoid having to do more releases.
Take Verizon S5 for example. It got 4.4.4 a lot sooner vs. we did, but the downfall was it had issues and security holes that they had to go back and patch again with more OTA's.
Sprint waited longer, didn't have to turn around and do all of this.
Waiting longer can often mean a more stable product as it allows other things to mature.
Sprint also generally doesn't like to update an phone right away if a newer model is about to come out with the new stuff also as it could cut into sales.
S5 will get 5.0 but based on how Sprint operates and historical events I don't see them doing it before a new flagship model comes out in which some people may feel they can now hold off longer. The leak FWIW is kind of like a marketing toy. It shows that they are committed to upgrading the OS so people don't do the whole "I'll never use sprint/samsung on sprint again cause they stopped updates". They are doing the updates, just doing it slower.
At the end of the day we are all speculating. You don't know for 100% just as I don't. I'm just saying (in my head at least) my thought makes more "sense".
FWIW I hope I am wrong because like you I own this phone too and want to have the new fancy stuff
I was on nougat until the other night i believe my dog stepped on the update button because it comes up all the time and i usually ignore it. I want to get back to nougat(phone is unuseable on oreo)and root so this never happens again. I just paid it off also. Please give me a hand.
Edit:bootloader v3
Nope it's patched might as well use pie beta now
No root and no downgrade. Have to get another rev 2 since if you want root again or wait to see if it ever becomes available on rev or higher
Sucks so bad. Ive held off that update since i bought it and woke up in the morning to 8.0. Just paid it off also. Now its not even worth that much. Definitely my last flagship and last Samsung.
The guys from one of the safestrap root threads are saying I can get back to nougat as long as I am not past v5 bootloader. Have you heard anything about this?

If you are a regular s8 no. The combination file is a nougat system but is not functional as a everyday driver. This device prevents downgrading so yes technically if you flash the combination. It is a 7.0 base but no apps full of bugs. Heat. Crappy battery. No play store no nothing. Combination files are Samsung test imgs again not usable systems. So whoever is telling you this they can tell me too cause unless they said the same as this they are rolling off crap.
If you own a s8+ you posted in the wrong section and yes you can flash the rooted system. Or whatever they use til at least rev 3 bootloader.
Yes I was in the wrong forum. Thanks for the info. I used chat alot with ya on the telegram s8+ channel. Did you ever root yours? Yeah my s8 had been rooted since like day 5 of having it. They either skipped or just messed up on patching the +. Past to me shows they don't patch the best model. I've seen it with several lgs. Samsung's. The plus models always get more attention.
Yeah I gave up that group, the management and I didn't see eye to eye. Now I run my own ????
