LG G6 Always on Display and System UI crashing and screen flashing - LG G6 Questions and Answers

FIrst the issue: Every day once I let my phone laying around for a couple hours, it will behave oddly and the "Always On Display" app will keep crashing and the phone will flash the screen trying to start again the app and it keeps in this loop forever until I restart it. If I try to open the phone main screen it will sometimes say "Always On Display" stopped working or "System UI" stopped working or a combination of both.
After rebooting, it works fine again for maybe another 20 to 24 hours.
Details:
This started happening one day after I changed the system language. My phone has always been in US English but I had a problem with a local app in Portuguese so I added the language and made it primary. After that I simply changed English again as primary and left Portuguese as secondary.
I don't know if this is related, but is very suspicious since when you change the language, lots of things in the UI behave differently for a while. After seeing the issue, I did remove Portuguese from the language list but I'm guessing the damage to some setting might already be done because the issue persists.

Hey I did face the same problem... I changed the theme and it stopped happening... Usual with high contrast themes they crash

Just give it a clean wipe and restore, see how that goes

Sorry bro...

Juste delete systemUI app and always on display app data or factory rest. Make sur u are on last update

Hi!
I'm having the same problem. I just came around at the 15th January. The first days it happend once a day. Now every 3-4 days.
I tried wiping the cache, but it didn't help. We are also discussing this topic at a german android forum. Someone reported there, that even a factory reset didn't help. The error occurs some days later again.
I suspect it's due to an app update, which is causing the problem.
Yesterday I tried to delete the systemUI ans AoD App data, like @KarimAssiakh suggested. Now I have to wait, if it will happen again.
Has anyone else found a working solution?

It's me again.
Deleting the System-UI and AlwayOnDisplay data didn't help. I'm still getting the error every 3-4 days.
I'm trying to avoid a factory reset. I also read in an other forum, that a factory reset won't help. The issue came back after some days. Maybe it's caused by an app update.
Has anyone found a solution to solve this problem?

Wow, nice to hear. Thanks!
I have some questions to understand what you did exactly. Maybe I will try it in the next days.
After the down- and upgrade the error didn't occur any more? How many days ago did you do the reset and how long was your device running after that? Because the error only occurs after 3-4 days at my phone. Maybe your just in this range?
Did you install all your apps again and made the same settings like before or do you use a different setup now? Did you use a full backup with the LG tools for your apps, settings etc?
Is your AlwaysOnDisplay activated? It seems that the AlwaysOnDisplay is causing the problem.
It would be great to hear from you again.
Thanks!!!

Bro not one's I've got the error... After I did the process... As far as I remember when the error used to occur I had to restart the device altogether.. Yeah download you're region kdz and lguppercut

Seems I am late to the party because this happened to me also. Have you guys tried the solution below? Posted by someone who goes by the handle XGXGXGX over at Android Central
XGXGXGX
Same thing happened to me, the file size of the photo is too big. Did a hard reset and cleared phone cache and it didn't work.
The fix: Go to:
Settings
> Applications
>Press Menu Button (3 dots in the top right corner)
>Choose "Show System Apps"
>Always On Display
>Force Stop
> Clear Data
>Clear Cache
This worked for me. Got info from another forum with instruction to only clear Cache, but that didn't work, so I did all of the above instead and it worked. I have the T-Mobile version.
Obviously the G6 has Always-on display Provider and Always-on display apps you will have to drill into , stop, and clear cache.
I've tried it and I will report my findings...

[Q] Settings change by themselves

It started as a weird feeling. I thought that I had just forgotten that I had changed a setting or two. But now I am certain that the phone changes some settings by itself.
Knock on keeps turning off by itself . I did also enable led notifications a couple of hours ago only to find them turned off now , after I plugged in my device (I didn't see the red light when I locked the screen). I am completely stock . I haven't received the latest OTA update though. Do I need to see a shrink or something strange is going on with the phone's software ?

I suggest you get an exorcist for your phone immediately, anyways all joking aside did this just begin or has it been happening for a while now, have you installed any weird apps/modules(if rooted), as a last resort you can backup apps(via carbon if not rooted or titanium backup if you are rooted) and music/videos/pictures to your pc and factory resetting to see if the issue persist

Thank you once again for you answers. I have the phone 3-4 days as I wrote to you in the other thread ! It has been happening from day one. I am completely stock , no root , no nothing. I don't want to hard reset but it may be obligatory in this case.
Yes, I have seen the LGG2 reset settings as well

I am so glad to see someone else posting about this. This happens to me so often and is so frustrating.
I see several different changes happening fairly frequently:
1. Date/time settings get changed (auto date time gets disabled, auto time zone gets disabled, use24 hour gets enabled, various combinations of these 3 settings change)
2. Knock on/off gets turned off
Less frequently:
1. Auto rotate turns off
2. Home Screen Background resets and/or theme changes
3. Allow Home screen looping gets disabled
I have Verizon LGG2, rooted,
Android 4.4.2
Baseband version: VS98024A-M8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20046
Kernel Version 3.4.0-perf-gdf89a11
Build Number: KOT491,VS98024A
have been unsuccessful updating to the latest OTA - figured it was because of root, after uninstalling root still had the error.
Not sure if that is related.
Both the reset issue and the lack of OTA update are annoying, but not so problematic that I want to reset my phone.
If anyone has seen this issue and/or has suggestions (including reset, I suppose), I'd appreciate it.
Thanks i n advance.

Freezes overnight with my I9505 Galaxy S4

Hi Guys,
i got freezes when i charge it overnight (its connected to the original charger the whole night). I only can do a hard reset to use my device again because the touch-screen doesnt work then. This is very annoying because i use my device with Alarm to get up in the morning.
I already did a few clean installs (Cyanogenod Snapshots and Danvdh's Google Edition), wiped all caches and formated all data and caches aswell. I still got freezes. I get them from waking up my device (mostly in the morning between 5-6 am). All i see is a exclamation mark when i turn on the display. Then its frozen and i cant anything.
I already tried a few Modems and Kernels to test, but still freezes...
I use Modem I9505XXUGNK4 atm.
Any ideas ??? I really Need help with this !!!
Thanks

Have you tried the new 5.0 gpe from danvh? There was an issue with the charging animation and reboots.
yes, i got Dan's 5.0 gpe at the moment 12.17.2014
Dumb question, did you clear /system in between flashes as well?
Yes, i formated System and Cache + i wiped everything too
You should flash the latest stock firmware and see if the issue persists. If yes, try a different charger. If the problem still persists, I think it's a hardware problem. Probably battery or motherboard.
The Problem is only between 5-6 am. The whole day i got no Problems Should be a Problem with my Router maybe ?
i got no resets in my Settings there. maybe my Provider is doing a reset every day between 5-6 am and my device freezes then. i could try airplane mode too to test, right ?
I bought a new charger and battery today (both original). Maybe thats the problem.
i got News guys, i turned off wifi overnight an didnt plugged the charger to my device this night. No freeze !!! Yay !!!
So it only could be, charger, battery or Wifi, right ?
ok, i had a freeze at work a while ago. but i got no wifi or charger there... now i dont know what to do
Does it behave like this?:
You pick up the phone (it is in deepsleep),try to turn the screen on,it goes on,you try to unlock the screen and it just stops reacting to anything and turns the screen off after 20-30seconds?

i had the same problem, the only way to get rid of it is to send it in/get the motherboard replaced.this is faulty hardware, not a software problem
Damn, but i already got know activated. i dont get one for free Its about 1 and a half year old. The problem was solved a few snapshots form cm earlier and its only between 5-6 am. do you think its really a mainboard problem ?

Same problem
Hy people, i have the same problem, but is not a specific hour when it freez, yesterday i picked up the phone and when i unlocked the screen, it freezed, but i don.t wait 30sec, i just lock/unlock it again and it work fine. The other problem was overheating..
and randomly restarting but i think i fixed it with a factory reset. What i want to tell now is that i installed "Root booster" before all these problemsc ocured. After it played with the kernel, do you all thing it might not restored the original settings? My phone is randomly heating sice i installed that **** on it...(even if i do factory reset)
Ps: i have a stock kernel/gt_505
Or the battery is guilty? It's draing pretty fast, after a day of use i put it to charge
(Solved)

1. Enter in Recovery Mode and select wipe data/factory reset
2. Clear cache partition
3. Go in Settings/More/App Manager and search for Touchwiz Home
4. Force stop then Clear data
5. Withouth exit from settings, restart your phone
6. When phone is on, screen will be black and will ask you witch program you wanna use, select Touchwiz home then press "always"

Unable to turn WIFI On.

Hi there, I had my phone for about 5 or 6 months where it was fine till recently.
The problem was that I am unable to turn the wifi on. in the main settings the slider is greyed out and a text is on screen saying turning on WIFI but it does not. it does not even show the list of networks. it quick settings it shows as searching but nothing is listed.
in the about phone settings it shows the mac address to be 02:00:00:00:00:00.
This occurred a few days ago but no new software was installed the most recent being a week before to the April security update.
I have tried multiple things such as turning on the airplane mode then off, switching phone on or off, safe mode, factory reset, wiping the cache, taking the sim out.
There has been instances where I am able to connect to a wifi network but it does not last long (few mins) except when taking the sim out which lasted about half a day. (tried again but did not work)
My phone is not rooted and has the stock rom.
There has been some research on this matter where people have done something with the presist(I think that is what it is call) folder but there was no result on it so I have not tried it due to wanted to keep the phone unrooted due to warranty concerns.
I would love some solutions in figuring out this problem.
Thank you for your time.

Phone randomly wiped itself

Hey all,
Yesterday I reached for my phone as it was charging untouched next to me, and the screen said Android is updating, or whatever it says for example after the install of a new rom and the apps are all updated. Then once it was done all my data and settings were gone, like it factory reset randomly. I still have my pictures and downloads etc, but all sms and call logs, homescreen settings etc were gone and I was signed out of all my apps, like after a factory reset.
The past few weeks or maybe even months I was also having the issue of the phone randomly freezing up, necessitating a reboot, but then all would be well. This could happen when the phone was in my pocket, or even mid stream of a podcast for example. My phone is the Z force and I typically have a battery mod attached as well.
Anyone have any idea what could have happened? How to avoid it happening again? If there's any hope to recover my old data or settings?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I had that on first reboot after the nougat update, and again after a couple of security updates. It happened to a few others and Motorola blamed the sdcard.
Try formatting after backing up.
My issue seemed to fix itself.

Happened to me today
Lost all my settings, Nova theme settings, sound settings, ringers, alerts. All my apps are still installed, but I have to log back into everything.
This sucks.

back and menu buttons swapped

Today, my phone rebooted on its own... happens every few days for seemingly no reason. once it came back up, I noticed that the back and menu button, where swapped... the back button brings up my opened apps list, and vice versa.
I've tried clearing the cache, and that did nothing to fix the problem. I haven't installed anything new lately, or made any changes I can recall. phone has not been rooted.
Any idea how to fix this?
thanks guys

if you are on stock, there's an option to change this in Settings - Features
OH MY GOD!!! that was driving me CLAZY! thank you... I thought I remembered seeing that, but didn't know where... much appreciated man. !
Usually a random reboot would be a memory thing. I would start by looking at what is running and how much memory it consumes. Uninstall anything not used and disable stock apps you don't want. I sometimes find alternative apps that behave better when an app decides it wants to run by itself for no reason of your choosing.

I had random reboots after I DFU-unbricked my phone. I installed Marshmallow on it and tried to stay there for some time. i had random reboots every couple hours. Factory reset/installing an official update didn't work. The only thing that actually fixed my device was going the LOS way (then returning to stock).
