S7 Edge Phone Settings - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello beautiful people! First, my device is the Galaxy S7 Edge, I researched a bit and found i could remove bloatware via ADB command Shell. Pulled up a list of files/apps that were supposed to be safe to remove. Removed what i thought were ones from list that i could do without. If i had dought, i didn't erase! So, afterwards i needed to fresh start it so decided to do a factory reset. But found i could not get into my phone settings to do so. Only says "Settings has stopped" and close app. Now you should know that the power button on my device does not work. Maybe you can see my delima now. Need to know how to either get into settings in phone to select reset, or a hard reset without functioning power button. Have tried various commands via adb command and no luck....any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Unstuck For Now
Well after a couple of hours pondering on the issue, I realized that a reset could be accomplished thru Lookout. if lost phone you can get into google security and erase phone data over the air!
Good job brain. And sorry for the wasted post above lol.

Complete restore stock?

So I'm relatively new to the flashing, rooting, hacking android scene, but I've done some reading.
I accidentally installed Google Voice and now I simply can't uninstall it. I am offered the option of uninstalling the updates, but if I do that I can no longer 'Open' or 'Uninstall'. If I uninstall the updates I can no longer open the app and the icon disappears from the app menu.
Whilst I don't want to root my phone, yet, I would like to restore it to a completely stock image.
The "Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset" doesn't do what I want. After doing this, Google Voice is still shown as installed in the marketplace - even though it isn't.
So, can I completely reset my entire phone?
Would I be correct in thinking that if I booted into the skateboarding android screen (via volume down and power) and I applied the 'update-nexusone-ERE27-signed.zip' update from 'android.modaco.com' - this would completely wipe my phone and put it back to a stock, unrooted factory setting?
Do I need to 'wipe' my phone before I apply the zip mentioned above? If so, how do I wipe?
If anyone could tell me how to get rid of Google Voice in another way, I would also appreciate that - without being rooted.
Thanks in advance for the help.
You can pick up a complete stock ERD79 from MoDaCo, the ERE27 update wont do as it's an update not a complete ROM.
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to reply, and so quickly!
If I go and get the stock ERE27 ROM from MoDaCo, will I be able to apply this without rooting?
To apply the ROM, do I boot into the skateboarding androids screen? Which options would I choose to perform a wipe and then apply the update?
My understanding is that I will need to rename the ROM to update.zip?
Apologies for the noob questions.
Hang on a minute, I've mis-understood what's going on here
So you've not unlocked your boot loader, which makes everything I previously said invalid
Can you find Google Voice in the list of installed apps in the Application Manager (under settings) and filter it to all?
When I got the phone I made the mistake of installing Google Voice from the marketplace - no point as I'm in the UK.
Somehow, it no longer appears in the app menu but does still show as installed in marketplace. The only options marketplace offers 'open' and 'uninstall' are both greyed out.
If I browse the file structure of the phone with Astro to '/system/app' I can see a googlevoice.apk entry, with the google voice icon. There isn't a googlevoice.odex file however.
The phone still works, and works normally - it just annoys me that it is on my system and shows in marketplace and I can't get rid of it.
I was therefore looking for a way to completely restore the phone to a factory state (like you could do with the iPhone with a restore).
I am not rooted and would like to stay that way.
I hope that clarifies, and thanks for your continued replies.
Oh, and it doesn't show under manage applications in settings.
Out of interest, are you on a vodafone contract, SIM only or PAYG? I'm looking to switch from O2 but I want to ensure that I can still get full HSDPA speeds on a SIM only deal - I tried out T-Mobile SIM Only but I needed to have the £5 extra for W&W plus as their standard internet doesn't give full HSDPA speeds.
Hmm that's a bit odd then, must admit all I can think of is boot into recovery and perform the 2 wipes that are available, or... just ignore it
As for Voda, it's a SIM only 12 month contract that I got from retentions... 300mins, unlimited texts & web for £15p/m, however 11 of those months are discounted by 50%.
Thanks for bearing with me. Unfortunately I can't ignore it... what can I say, I'm just one of those people
I'm guessing that it simply isn't possible for me to do a complete restore to stock without first being rooted?
So, the last few stupid questions:
If I do the two wipes that are available, will that leave me with a completely blank phone that I will then need to flash a ROM to?
What are the two types of wipe, how do I get to them and what is each supposed to achieve?
No it wont leave you with a blank phone, it will be as if you'd just switched it on when you got it.
You need to get into fastboot (trackball and power on as you know) then into the bootloader, then recovery. At the picture of the Android and the exclamation point, you hold down the power button, the hit vol up.
Here you can use the trackball to select what you want.
What does each one do? **** knows, I can't even remember what they're called at the moment lmao
Much appreciated.
I'll give it a go this evening and let you know how I get on.

Help PLEASE Dead Phone

I have searched and posted this question in some other threads but have not got any answer so hopefully someone outh there can help
""I am in a situation where I rooted my phone but never made a backup or installed clockwork as I did not intend to do any outragous stuff just wanted to remove some bloatware. Now I did a factory reset since I just wanted to clear out all user data. I only removed safe bloatware and the phone ran fine until the reset. Now I only get a force close loop when booting and cannot do anything. I am not able to get into debugging mode to use ADB and the hardware buttons are not working any suggestions on how I can fix this.""

[Q] Galaxy S4 Google + other Issues - memory wipe doesn't help

Hello!
Please help, this is driving me insane.I've had a galaxy S4 for almost a year now. I had it rooted and ****ed around with it a bit, it was all good. Then I was running low on space and got a disk checker or whatever it's called to show me how my space was being used. A lot of it was in caches. I downloaded a file manager and went on a cache deleting spree. One of the caches I deleted was google. Ever since that day everytime I start my phone:
Samsung Link has stopped
Dropbox has stopped
Google + has stopped
Google search has stopped
The phone in general just worked extremely ****ty.So I decided today that it was time for a factory reset. I run it, all good. The phone restarts in factory settings.. and I get the exact same error messages. ?So I decided that I would do the hard reset. Shut it off, volume up + home + power, wipe/delete all data. EXACT SAME PROBLEM. WHAT?How is that possible? I wipe my phone completely and end up with the same problems? How do I reinstall the OS? Since I'm going to be uninstalling the OS completely (probably the only solution to my problems), is there anyway to get a nice clean OS? And not the one full of bloatware from my carrier? I really just want to start over from a fresh OS.
I also tried just running a software update, but I got the error message 'this phone has been modified and cannot be updated'. I guess that's because it's rooted..
Thank you for your help

[Q] i need help, bricked my SM-g870a

Disclaimer: this has nothing to do with the quality of the program i was working with and everything to do with MY lack of knowledge of android systems and what I am doing.
purchesed: 8/23.2014
my att gs870a
rooted: towelroot
xposed module: donkeyguard
the last few things that i had done was to install ABP for android and then downloaded donkeyguard. i checked the box in modules for Xposed installer and it required a reboot. i rebooted device and it starts booting up and gets to att screen and stops.
boot loader is set to freeze most of the automatic updates including KNOX
i have root cloaker in place
Xposed privacy guard in place
i can reboot into manual holding up arrow, home and power keys
from there i dont know what to select: restore factory defaults?
please help
i can try to provide any extra information that you may require and i have more rooted updates on device. please take pity on a NOOB. i dont claim anything other than sometimes a little knowledge is dangerous.
thanks
patrrick
sorry that this is my first post. i have learned alot form this forum. this is my first android device. i had been on using BB 9930 up to now.
hi again
here is what i was able to work thru. hard boot holding vol/home/power into manual. at this point i was able to get kies3 to read device. reset to factory options and reinstalled last backup. phone is back up and running/rooted and reloaded with the exception of a couple of the last programs i had installed. now for the question:
it seems to be running slower than it was before. used TB to refreeze a number of apps and i was hoping it would show me if there were dup's. i am thinking this could be causing the slower operation. have used Antutu to check it against prior to brick. any thoughts on what might be causing it?
thanks in advance

vndn thanks for the suggestion. what i did was take a close look at all the settings after the reinstall and what i found was Wifi had been switched to manual in advanced settings and was causing conflict with the system operation causing the slower operation. seems to be fine now. thanks for the help.

PLEASE HELP! Substratum messed my galaxy s8 up.

After I applied a skin, it instantly crashed with a message saying "the system ui has stopped".
I can't get in to my phone. Only the always on display is available as of right now.
I have tried ejecting the sim, booting it in to safe mode.
My phone is not rooted and I don't plan on rooting it. I haven't registered bixby so I can't put it in to max power saving mode.
I don't know what adb shell is. Please can anyone help me save my phone? I am so desperate.
PLEASE HELP. MY PHONE IS A BRICK.
Can I save my phone without a factory reset?
I was on Oreo Beta.
Please help. Thank you
once in safe mode, see if you can disable substratum or perform a factory reset.
Ok dont panic i also had trouble after applying substratum, First my phone became very laggy and then apps stopped working with constant crashes. Eventually the phone became unusable. A factory reset solved the problem for me, if you cant get into the phone use samsung smart switch you should be able to reset it from there and try back up your data.
You could also try flashing a rom to see if this would help.
If you can't delete the overlays from safe mode then you'll have to perform a factory reset. The only other way I would assume is unfortunately uninstalling the overlay apks through adb but then you need to know the full name of the apks you want to delete. by using adb you could find the names of all installed apk but then again.. could be a reason to learn to use adb
Thread cleaned No need for rude comments guys Lets keep it on track....
