Help!
My first topic here ever.
My J5 (2016) fell dramatically today, and the screen is black now. I need, need, need to save all the photos, videos and memory notes related to my kids. But when I connect the J5 to the computer - the computer does recognize it, but when I open the J5 folder - it's absolutely empty. USB debugging is off Also, I have a pin code when turning on the phone plus I need to draw a special sign to log in when it's in the stand-by mode....
So what do I do to save my precious data? So sad, such a "xmas gift"....
my first thought-buy new lcd.

Hi friends!
So I'm trying to get data off of this..
This is the exact version: gsmarena.com/samsung_i9500_galaxy_s4-5125.php
When I plug it into the PC, It says unlock it with the key. I'd love too, but I can't, because it's bent, and the screen is shattered. I just want to copy the docs, I don't need the texts or anything.

I do have play store. Any ideas guys?

Any ideas how I can remove the password so I can backup via kies or some other utility?
Much love,
Tm0
You might try posting in the right forum. This is the S4 Active forum.
Hello everyone,
My close friend recently broke her Sprint Galaxy S4 phone and she would like to retrieve the pictures off of the phone. I know to do this for internal storage the phone has to be in MTP mode to recognize the SD and Internal card. Would their be anyway of retrieving this information without having any access to the screen. The screens cracked and the digitizer does not work it doesn't even show a display. Many thanks for the help.
just plug usb in lol. u dont need screen. windows 7 it comes right up
Need to copy data (broken touch input - physical buttons work fine)
Phone is locked so internal storage shows as empty when connecting via USB, unfortunately developer is not enabled.
Is there any way to get data from device without getting new housing kit
Thanks!
have you tried a usb-otg cable and a USB mouse?
it should let you unlock, after which you can either use cloud storage or pull data off using a PC.
easy as pancake!

I had the same problem with my samsung s5 active when my screen got punctured (hated samsung for that) but it is easy to perform the unlock.
okay, you might have to buy OTG cable for your samsung device, along with that, a keyboard that can be plugged into the android device through the OTG cable, and if you have numberic or alphabetic pin you can enter it through keyboard and press enter, viola!! screen is unlocked, you need to quickly connect it back to the computer so that it can detect the device. Other than that, if you have pattern code, you need to have the screen on, along with that you need a mouse to draw the pattern. That's it. Sorry for your loss brother I was not even under warranty when it happened to my device and im still buying note 4 because of gear 2. have spent so much in samsung due to that watch!
i love gear 2 but hate the fact that in order to make it fully functional you need TW.

that one might also work if you have Samsung's services enabled.
Just install Kies 3 onto your computer and use that to transfer all your data over.
Hi,
I'm having issues with an old Galaxy Note 3.
The story is a friend of mine tried to replace the glass on his note 3 and botched it completely. He destroyed the display and gave up on it and eventually sent it to me completely disassembled(in individual parts)+ a new frame, sans the lcd, but it wasn't cost effective to replace the display so I let it sit and gather experience. He now asked me to retrieve his photos from the onboard storage and here is where I'm stuck.
I assembled the components on the new frame without the lcd and I put the battery in, let it charge for a bit and tried to connect it to the laptop and installed the usb drivers and kies.
The problem is that all the components listed under devices and printers for SAMSUNG_Android are locked, as in I am unable to update or change the drivers. Also, Kies reports being unable to connect to the phone.
The phone buzzes once upon connecting to the pc and the red led comes on(as it does when charging).
Am I missing something important? Should I use the old frame with the broken up lcd? I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks a bunch.
I was able to connect my phone to pc eventhough the screen is blank until I overblew it with hot air.... Maybe the mb has damaged?. Did yoy tried to install usb driver alone without kies?.

Sure, I had installed the usb files before Kies.
In the end, I let it charge overnight and it booted. Connected fine after that.
Thanks,
Not sure if I'm posting in the right place ( if not please direct me where I should ) I have a damaged Galaxy S7 Edge from ATT that I'd like to pull some photos off the device that was took the night before the screen decided to go out on me. Is there any programs or tools that will allow me to pull from certain folders even though the USB file sharing option can not be put on due to the screen being off?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as the phone was used to shoot a whole birthday party before it went out.
I would suggest you connect to smart switch and make a back up of the operating system.
then you can get the pictures from the back up as smart switch saves them in different folders.
Does Smart Switch run out of the box without interaction on the phone?
I guess that's a hard one. If you've enabled USB debugging and permanently authorized your desktop you can access the files through adb.
Depending on the source of your problem you can give your phone to a shop for repair who won't touch the filesystem.

Smart switch needs me to put the phone in a mode where it can read off it which I don't have access to unfortunately.

I have another device already so I wasn't trying to spend the $200+ to get the screen fixed on a phone I was no longer using if I didn't HAVE to
Point taken... however, you should be able to sell it for more than 200$ afterwards, isn't it.
Otherwise you can open it and solder wires on the memory chip and connect directly (just as a rough path given).
As previously mentioned above, using smart switch is not a bad idea.
I however didn't do that. My wife had the s6 and right before the s7 edge came out she dropped it and screen broke. Was not able to view anything on the screen but still powered on. What i did, was turned it on, connected the phone to my pc and device appeared in the Computer section of my pc as the external storage or whatever. I was able to save and remove all picture/files i wanted from that non working s6. Just a thought. Back then, i didn't like to back up my stuff now i do but just in case the back ups don't work try this. The possibilities are endles...

When I connect the device the computer only sees it as charging only because I don't have the ability to change it to fileshare. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone !

It sounds like your computer is not recognizing the phone because the samsung drivers are not working properly. Download and install them to your computer and then try smart aswitch. You should not need to put into file share mode to make a back up to your computer.
Once the back up is on your computer, you should be able to access the back up and get most of the information you require.

No, it's a security measure. You indeed need to confirm on the phone first to get access to the files.
