done: V20 unlock & root via dirtysanta
Everything else works, Wifi, calling, SMS, etc. - all good.
SIMs connect fine, with two different carriers.
But no mobile data. What to do?

some infos about the device:
h910
original state before I began: H91010I, Android security patch level: December 1, 2016
the h910 frequencies are definitely fine for carrier one or carrier two
Currently:
Device model: LG-h910
Android version: 7.1.2
LineageOS version: 14.1-20181128-NIGHTLY-h910
Android security patch level: 5 November 2018
Baseband version: MPSS.TH.2.0.1.c3 .... long ... [Sept 01 2016 13:00:00]
kernel version: 3.18.31-perf-g6662....
Build date Wed Nov 28 .... 2018
Build number lineage_h910-userdebug 7.1.2 NJH4 ...
Earlier (see below) I could get the *#546368#*915# menu (which should now have become *#546368#*910# right?), but now nothing happens anymore. Is that overwritten by LineageOS?
What I get now is *#*#4636#*#* with this info:

Signal strength: -103 dBm 5 asu
Voice service: In service

What else can I read out, to help you diagnose it?
Thanks!
what I have tried
some of the things that I have tried so far:
dirtysanta via JustRunMe.cmd script (finally worked when I had found out all these 5 hints)
LineageOS-14.1, quite some app install and configuration work, and then a TWRP backup.
... only days later (because ill always at home) suddenly realized: Oops, I have no mobile data!
bricked when trying to flash some stock ROM
(unpatched) LGUP refused any KDZ but this one "h910PR" (PuertoRico? Claro branded), so I flashed that. But then not even a carrier signal. And not dirtysanta rootable.
Patched LGUP - hint: specific path
Patched LGUP: Complete dump (of that dysfunctional state, but perhaps some of my original partitions are still in there?)
Patched LGUP: flash h915 KDZ "H91510e_00_VTR_CA_OP_1205.kdz"
dirtysanta, same as above, but with newer TWRP
TWRP --> h910 firmware "h910-10r.zip", see this thread. Resulted in faulty state, frequent app crashes; EULA crashing, so I could not even get to USB debugging settings. Gave up. Instead:
TWRP --> restored my previous LineageOS from above.
Whew, happy to have most functionality back after that horrible odyssee - but still no mobile data. Any ideas what else I can try?
useful pages
possibly useful threads and posts that I found while searching for solutions and trying all kind of things
complicated instructions to "fix signal and data (h910 only)" - not tried yet.
ARB *#LGMENU#*910#
patchedLGUP --> h915 --> TWRP --> h910? Tried that, but then lots of apps crashing, incl. EULA crashing, i.e. could never get back to USB-debugging; decided to restore back my initial LOS backup instead
h910 return to stock
perhaps flash modem and operatorlogging - but where to get them from, as I have no own dump from before.
*#*#4636#*#* = hidden menu under LOS
...
... = more to be added, unready
"after a battle, everyone is a general"
It would have been clever to do these two things initially, before I even started:
complete dump with "patched LGUP" (see hint above about the only allowed PATH for unpacking)
then I would have a copy of my whole phone now - but that ship has sailed.
(Anyone who can help me, providing me with some of the original partitions, please contact me, thanks!)
Then, as soon as I was in TWRP it would have been clever to do
a complete TWRP backup
I dimly remember to have actually tried that, and a lot of the partitions did not work to be backuped within TWRP, not EFS or anything else? (possibly because the dirtysanta JustRunMe.cmd method had flashed a 996-TWRP onto my h910 ? Or for whatever reason, ...) I could not backup them, so my earliest TWRP backup (more than two weeks ago *sigh*) sadly only contains ONE partition "system" which is the original system plus dirtysanta.
I do have a later EFS + firmware partition TWRP backup. Later = after LineageOS installed already. Without that backup, I would not have gotten the carrier signal back. But it stll does not seem enough to give me mobile data ... ? What am I missing?
What might help you to understand why I did neither backups: I would have never in my wildest dreams imagined that, more than 2 weeks later, I would still be struggling with this one limited task, to simply unlock & reinstall a phone. Sorry, I completely underestimated the complexity of this whole endeavour. My hint to you: Treat it like an open brain surgery on your only child. Yes, BEFORE YOU START, you want any backup imagineable, even if it takes you days to find out how exactly to execute that backup. This is not easy klte Samsung s5; this LG stuff here is a whole different ballgame. TAKE IT MORE SERIOUS. Do backups first!
May your phone not get wasted. And may my own phone perhaps still get saved somehow ... Thanks for any idea you have for that!
----
Edit:
oh wow, this looks SUPEREASY "partitions backup & restore" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.partitions = BACKUP EVERYTHING, SIMPLY FROM AN APP. Only works after rooting, but that should be the first thing you do then !!!!!!
In short: All working, but no mobile internet. Any ideas much welcome.

Yes.
But checked again now:
APN "reset to default". There were 6 different apn settings. I let the phone decide.
then I chose the one that their homepage explained to be the right one.
then I put the SIM into some stock ROM phone (where I got mobile data just fine with that SIM), wrote down all APN settings, swapped back the SIM into the v20, and entered a manual APN with those exact settings.
In all cases - No mobile data.
What can I try next?

Hmmm could be that your Arial plugs might be misaligned or not connecting properly though that's a long shot. I've bought a few of these lgv20s and one had a faulty Arial which I fixed through removing the bottom wedge slot of the phone and patching it up. Telco antenna is the bottom right gold plugs if I remember correctly. I also take out the mesh in between the bottom speaker which increases the speakers volume somewhat... But I digress... When entering the apn manually there is usually a setting that says to leave empty e.g 'authentication' ~none~ which you have to actually select 'none' not just leave it blank. That's gotten the better of me many times now...

So your running at&t phone? I flashed the alpha Omega Oreo 8.0 rom and it works beautiful. I did the dirty santa root using patched lg up to flash 915kdz then as soon as twrp is on the phone I flash straight to alpha Omega rom. No return to stock options because I'm lazy . I've done it to 3 v20s now and though the first root was timely...boot loops ect... It was only because the phone is a finnicky one to root.
The link for alpha rom. Make sure you have an SD card that's formatted to the specified setting. Don't make the stupid mistake I did with my 256gb SD card which I left in the phone while flashing the room and kernal........ Lucky there's a program called 'recuva ' which saved most of my filesystems but now the card is a jumbled mess of **** everywhere lol. Live and learn...

It also might be that your at&t apps 'permissions settings ' may need to be resset or maybe updated? I'm still slowly figuring out which system and AT&T apps ect I can safely remove which won't affect the phones various call function s for use in AUS. I had an interesting failure using debloater software which resulted in me apparently uninstalling something I shouldn't have which caused the second screen to stop working and thus a phone resset.

Also ... if the Aerial were the problem, then would not I have no cell reception at all? Sorry, but I don't understand phone tech well enough yet.

Good to know.
I have checked the APN settings again. Wrote it all down when that SIM in a 2nd phone, then input all information onto an APN setting on the sick V20.
The only such place is "Authentication type", and it has to be set not to "None" but to "PAP". (Or rather, I have just tried it out, it does not matter whether it is set to "None" or to "PAP" because both works, and it is set to "PAP").
All the other places either have a value set, or "not set", which is an empty entry.
How do APNs work in general?
I had always assumed I need only ONE of those APN settings (the one which is "enabled" via radiobutton). Is that correct? Or do I have to input all 9 APNs? I have just done ... Mobile Network settings ... Access point names ... three dots menu ... Reset to default. Now (on the stockrom-data-working-fine-phone) I see 9 APNs, seven of which have a radio button, and one of them is enabled. I only need that one APN settings, right?

Yes but no. Yes, is h910 hardware, but no, I am running LineageOS. See #2 diagnosis. However, I got there on a rather convoluted way, see post "#3 History".

Yes.
I might try alpha Omega Oreo 8.0 rom when I find the time for it. But while I was on that odyssee described in post #3 , I always tried, and I did not have mobile data nowhere. But perhaps it is worth the try, to also flash AlphaOmega, and see if it's actually the v20-LineageOS which is f***ing up the mobile data. In between I had also tried the October LineageOS instead of the November LineageOS, but both give no mobile data on my device.

I am not running AT&T, but LineageOS.
Which "permission settings" could prevent getting mobile data?
Where in LineageOS (or more general in Android) do I "reset all permission settings" ?
Thanks a lot!
For future reference this is where the mobile reception antenna is located. I'm swaying more towards thinking it's the liniage rom which is the 'root' ?of your problems.. download the Omega rom which is the same as your actual original phone. As long as you have twrp on your phone you should be good.

i lost data and signal after every new rom instal. I bought a V20 to use LineageOS, and "signal but no data" is not what I expected, but perhaps that is only me lol.
How can we get that information onto the official pages? So that people are warned before? e.g.
* the lineageos page https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/h910/install
* perhaps here too? https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/dev-cm14-t3509953
* where else?
Any ideas how to add information to that LOS page?
I have the exact same issue as you, I bought a brand new V20 and got it rooted with the very first guide by me2151 to then install LOS 18.1. Everything works but mobile data. Longer explanation in this post.
Did you manage to find a solution ? I'd rather get on some track from someone experienced and knowledgeable than to start reinstalling for likely nothing.

Hi everyone,
I frequently install new custom ROMs on my i337. I use Naver LINE as my primary messaging app, but your account is tied to your email and supposedly the device ID. If it doesnt match, it will delete your chat history.
I tried using Titanium Backup to restore my previous ID when putting in a new ROM but LINE still recognized the phone as a new device. Anyone have an idea on how to make the new ROM get recognized as the previous one?

Backup the LINE APP+DATA and SETTINGS (system apps). Install new ROM process whatever. Restore LINE APP+DATA. Manage Android ID, restore from backup (should be one option available). Click yes, let it reboot. Everything should be in LINE again in the new rom. Tested over 50 times as I am also a flashaholic.
Idk what went wrong with your method, but you didn't mention that you backed up and restored LINE APP+DATA before trying to restore the Android ID. If you already tried that... idk.
I think what I missed in this post is I didnt restore app data. I did exactly wgat you said on my flash last night and it worked! Does this work between different ROMs? Not just updates of the same ROM?

I can not say with ABSOLUTE certainty that it will always work, but it has consistently worked for me between numerous roms, OS versions, and different phones (ie, transferring user data from an old phone to a new phone).

Hi, TASL.
You may or may not be viewing any replies on this topic anymore, but in case you are, would you be able to explain the steps you have provided in as much detail as possible?
I am completely new to android and have never used Linux before either. I have been putting in some hard yards over the past few days and burned around 6 hours of trying to understand all the related jargon and acronyms (relating to backing up Naver Line) but it is starting to take its toll lol.. This is like learning a whole new language.
I followed some of what you have said but there are areas I could not work out no matter how hard I tried.
I.E. SETTINGS (system apps). There are many places where the words settings are inside the OS I found. In the OS itself, inside Naver Line etc... I have no idea where to find it.
"Manage Android ID". What is that and how is it done exactly?
So, if you or anyone else for that matter could please write a (Literally) step by step guide that would be just awesome. Because I have failed many attempts thus far and yet I will keep on trying. I can't see that light at the end of the tunnel just yet.
NB: I will add though, after weeks of trying I finally succeeded in installing a ROM on one of my androids. That was just HELL!! I'm not giving in though! :good:
From an old bloke, cheers for the understanding...
This process requires ROOT and Titanium Backup:
1. Select "Backup All System Data"
{

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Select "SETTINGS" Storage is the only one I think you need, but back up both anyways (as pictured)
**The above steps will backup your Android Device ID, which LINE requires to be identical to the restored data ID**
**After you have backed up LINE and SETTINGS and done whatever it was that required you to move your LINE app**
1. Select "Restore All Apps With Data" and check LINE (app+data)
2. Navigate to Titanium Backup's main menu, scroll down to "Manage Android ID ..." which should bring up a window with an option "Restore Android ID from a backup" which when clicked should show one backup... click that, it will prompt you to restart, restart... done.
I'm not the best instructions guy, but let me know if that helps clear up the process.
backup issue
Hey TASL,
A big thanks for the effort you put in there.
I am going to give it a go again and I'll post my experience with it.:fingers-crossed:
Through my previous attempts with this (using two other site/posts to help or confuse) I had ended up downloading SQlite manager, Titanium, Bluetooth File Transfer, Easy Backup, FX explorer and FX explorer root add-on. You can see I was going down the rabbit hole there..
Back. I've been out for a few hours training. Been back for 30 minutes. Started on backing up of Line and camera. The new phones was in a 'Building app data size....or something or rather for around 5 minutes. Then changed to a screen report showing 'Overview of app storage use ' window.
Obviously I am not sure if this is supposed to happen.
Then I tried to 'Manage Android Id'.......No can do. I need the 'Donate version' of Titanium it says. Hmm..I couldn't find the donate version so I suppose I would have to pay the $7.50 for the PRO version to get this to work.
I'll get back when i've come to a solution.
Ok. I finally succeeded in backing it up onto the new phone. The only issue here is that When opening Line I need to enter the password 'twice'. Also a message appears courtesy of Line, telling me that I have accessed this account on another device therefore and that all the information will be deleted.
At this point I just tap back instead of tapping on the 'OK' button.
This probably came about because I had installed Line onto my new device and opened it before using this backup guide. As the above message is what I saw when I had done that. This is a bit of an issue as I will need to step carefully least I accidentally hit the 'OK' button and then having line remove all of the chat.
Bummer.
What a huge oversight by Naver Line in not incorporating a chat transfer option. Seems like an awfully stupid 'think tank' idea from the suits in the oval office. Perhaps they know something I don't.
Again thanks for the guide TASL. This will definately help in future and next time I'll get it right on the first go. Cheers
Just an update to my user experience.
I have removed the Line app and re-installed from the market.
Not only was it tedious to tread carefully around the 'OK' confirmation button from line I couldn't send text messages either.
So I have failed in getting this too work.
The household is getting a new (but second hand) SG3 very soon so I will try the method on that device before activating line on it.

Screen turns off during call, won't turn back on
This is the first rom I've installed in a while and this is also the first rom installed after rooting.
I am using the SPH-L720 on NG2
After flashed this rom and the sprint framework, whenever I make a call the screen shuts off, like it's supposed to.
My problem is that the screen won't turn back on.
Power button, home button, tapping the screen, nothing seems to work.
Am I the only one with this issue?
Is there a fix out there for this or should I just try and reflash?
Great rom. Stable and have found no bugs since the release. Is there a way to infinite scroll the homescreen and apps panel? And also.. I saw some mention about build.prop edits for the model but didnt see a difinitive answer. Is there a way to change it to sph-l720? It doesnt make anything not work but it takes the rom from perfect to almost perfect lol. Anyway thanks dev!
I'm also getting the no sim card error, on top of that I am unable to connect to LTE. I have flashed this rom three times with full wipes in between. installed the sprint framework. I have LTE on other ROMS. Is anyone else having this issue?
It rocks
Best rom i've tried in a while. Battery lasts about 2 days for me, great performance, no glitches found so far.
Little question, under Developer options, I can't seem to find the advanced reboot options menu. I know there is one under interface > Reboot options, but that one reboots right away and I want it on the menu while clicking the power buttom.
Thank you developers for this awesome rom.
Battery Life
Can someone post screenshots of this ROM's battery life? I have an SPH-L720, and I am trying to decide if I should wait for the TouchWiz 5.0 Samsung Update.
GSM on Samsung Sprint S4
I like to try this ROM, I'm not using CDMA with this phone,, will the GSM works well with this ROM? Thank You,,

Proximity Sensor
Nevermind, it was a problem with my proximity sensor. I edited build.prop to disable it and it works now.

Pretty much everything working fine here. I love the ROM. My only issues are the following:
I had to turn on LTE in the settings and reboot the phone before it would connect to LTE, but it does fine now.
I'm also getting the NO SIM CARD on lock screen issue as someone else reported, but LTE wouldn't work at all if it really had no SIM card.
The other more major issue I have is that I can't mount folders to the storage/emulated/0/Android/obb folder. A lot of games keep huge files in that folder, so I like to keep those files on my SD card and link them to that folder. I couldn't use FolderMount or create symbolic links just to that obb folder, while other folders link just fine. I tried a lot of different things, but nothing lets me link/mount properly inside this ROM's obb folder. Reading through the FolderMount support thread, I found this: h**p://www.devasque.com/foldermount/kk-support.html They said to have my kernel dev (or ROM cooker) look there, and I believe that is now you
Thanks for putting this all together! Still a great DD even without mounting to the obb folder.

Maybe long press on the notification then tap the app info on the right and check block notifications. I haven't had the Phantom VM but I know when I was on an older Kitkat Rom it did the trick

How to Return to Stock?
I want to try this on my SPH-L720 Samsung Galaxy S4 Sprint phone currently running 4.4.2 Stock TouchWiz Firmware. Can someone point me in the right direction how to get back to Stock after flashing a custom ROM like this? I want to be able to return to my phone's former state, meaning I can get OTA updates when Samsung releases 5.0, no root permissions, and no triangle upon booting. I've done ROM flashing on the S2, but I've read many comments with others having problems going back on the S4. I think those problems are with the AT&T and T-Mobile models, yet I am new to this and want to play it safe. Here's what I've found: qbking77. com/development/how-to-unroot-and-unbrick-the-samsung-galaxy-s4/ Thanks!
Model number incorrect
I followed the instructions exactly, and I do have Sprint network access, so this may just be a minor thing, but my model number is showing as GT-I9505G instead of the SPH-L720. Is there a way to fix this? I tried using the suggested XML file and putting it in the data folder and rebooting but no dice there, either.

Thank you very much for the work you put into this. I don't have my D5 yet (should arrive before weekend if i am lucky). I'll happily flash this rom as soon as i have it and report back.
I'm so glad we have the last firmware update in the new custom rom, too. I wasn't able to use the latest watchfaces because they required the new firmware already for counter-clockwise rotation features.
I just installed the new rom over twrp like in the instruction. I wiped system, dalvic and cache only, didn't wipe 'data' though and didn't lose any apps/data. As far as I can see it works good, the watch got really warm and laggy at first but I will give the system some time to 'settle in'.
At first the recovery didn't find the 'backup' to restore. I had to put it in the directory ...\TWRP\backup\0000000000000000 . I discovered this by making a little backup from the old cache ( just a few MB) over twrp to look in which folder it will be put in. Sherlock
Thanks for the great work!!!
Thanks again mate
Out of interest - did you decide to stay with mailwise because it is a lighter client?

I know Loki didn't put this in his instructions so it's not absolutely necessary but:
The problem with this approach (not wiping everything) is that if you do experience issues down the track, it makes it much more difficult to pinpoint the cause.
Another serious point is that when you move to a fairly major update - which this is - a factory reset of the watch is best practice.
I would say even if you use the SP Tools version you should factory reset after the first full boot.
About recovery not seeing the data to restore - that's why Loki normally gives the whole folder structure starting with "TWRP" as top level. It also contains a small file which recovery looks for when it boots.

More information please.
Did you do a full wipe?
SP or TWRP install method?
Did you check your APN?
Have you checked that the "screen off = data off" setting is not the problem?
Which band does your sim use for 3g 850 or 2100 ?
PS in future these reports would be recorded under the "bug report" tab.
Cheers

Thank you for the advice! Of course you are right that a full wipe would be better but I did't want to setup everything from the beginning again. My watch actually works fine now and I don't experience any issues so far. I promise that in case of any problems with this rom I will do a full wipe and a clean flash first before bothering anyone here
It's all good. If it's working well then that's what it's all about.

Yep. Even with nano gapps, I'm down to less than 200MB free space in system. So at this point, every MB is starting to count. I'm even looking at removing any launcher watchface that can be duplicated with a clockskin except for the default.
I can never get the keyboard the same as it was in your last release. That was perfect. Is there a trick to it?
I have the folder on the SD card and the keyboard is invoked correctly but the layout with mic activation on long press is what I miss.
@pablo11 I'll have to get back to you one that, I'm trying to track down a more serious issue.

There may be an issue with the D5 base firmware that's causing this but both of you posts provide little information than other than "It don't work". In the future your posts should look something like THIS. They should also never be posted in general discussion but in "Bug Reports"

What's the likelihood of anything happening with the ZTE Maven 3? I understand it's pretty new but I literally can't even find any discussion on it.
I just picked the Maven 3 up today myself and I must admit I'm pleasantly surprised... It performs great considering it was only $30 brand new, and I love the fit & finish of it... Now just gotta try to be patient and hope for Lineage/ResRemix,TWRP,Root,Magisk,etc.... =)
It's apparently going to be $8 shipped from best buy on black friday. I think a lot of people will pick one up even if it were to be just an emergency phone.

No, I haven't found anything about it still. Hoping for at least roof, LOS would be a nice surprise.
I've found that QDLoader is activated in EDL mode (adb reboot edl; you will know you are in when the screen is off and nothing is happening) but I'm not sure how that's useful for us. fastboot and adb do not work in this mode. Volume down + Power button = FTM (field test mode) but I'm not sure what to do in that mode - you can use adb commands but you can't do anything special like mount system as r/w - no fastboot in this mode either. I also tried the ZTE Axon 7 tuliptool but that didn't detect anything (worth a try I guess). iRoot, srsroot, kingroot (pc & apk) don't root it in the FTM mode or regular OS. I've tried adb reboot disemmcwc thing to disable write protection but that didn't seem to do anything different. adb reboot bootloader only brings you to the regular OS. There is also a recovery, but that really only allows you to wipe data/cache and view logs, etc. (volume up + power).
There is an OEM Unlock option in the developer settings, but I still haven't found a way to get to use fastboot. Looking in the system, there are some debug scripts in the /system/bin folder, as well as busybox (toolbox & toybox included) which is interesting. The device is on 7.1.1 & security update "July 1, 2017" (any later exploits?). In "About", there is also a section called "Additional system updates" which seems to allow installing update packages from root directory on storage card?
I'm stuck there, as I'm not super knowledgeable in the art of rooting. Hopefully someone can figure this out!
Thanks for the information, Nick. I'm sure a lot of people got these for 8 bucks like I did just to play around with. I have no intention of putting a sim in it. I just want to use it as a music player with Google music. The main things I want to do are get rid of the preinstalled "locked" apps and unlock it to get rid of the activation nags. How did you get the developer options? When I tap on the Android build, I get this big N. For just over $20, I got a music player with 32 gigs for music. Not bad. I would love to get Aptx HD if we are able to get LineageOS or root it and install the codec but it's not a really big deal since I have it on my main phone. I just want to use this at work plugged in.

Maven query
First, am I permitted to ask a technical question about this model here? I couldn't find a thread for any sort of Q&A, and starting my own would likely take a week to get a response. If not, kindly point me in the right direction please?
Note: My question is about how to retrieve the encryption key as I adopted my SD card to internal, and now it won't read it suddenly. I believe a file named (expand%s.key) is what contained the key, and I'm not sure how it was deleted. This happened after using Zarchiver and compressing about 700 images into a .zip with ultra compression, 256-bit encryption with password. After it finished the phone rebooted and didn't read the SD card upon boot.
I'm working on a terminal-only approach to rooting using the linux shell. I've got 4 books on linux checked out from the library including a command reference that's about 800 pages thick. If there's a way to root using the command line, I'll find it. Success could take a week or two depending on how many hours a day I put into this. It's also possible that there simply isn't a way to root from the command line only. Wouldn't it be nice though?

It'd be nice if there were ANY way to root the Maven 2 or 3, I've tried pretty much every well know apk , without PC, & no root. Almost got it 1 time & started to try to remove some crapware & bam reboot.
I'm confused on the custom recovery / root thing. Seems like a chicken / egg ? Need root to install recovery but the root methods on Youtube all seem to start with them all having a recovery installed. You need to get a job but you have no experience, but you need experience to get a job...

If you want to have some basic data, the Freedompop LTE SIM shows up as an ATT SIM in this device, so it works, even w/o unlocking. can get up to 400 MB of data free per month, along w/free VoIP minutes. While that data isn't going to get you streaming, it's more than enough for some IoT stuff.
Heres a little video i made of the Maven 3 running antutu benchmark.
ZTE Maven 3 ( SIM Mobile Network) Not Working
I am trying to use a ZTE Maven 3 from AT&T(US) in Africa (gift from a friend), but the mobile network (SIM card) is not active after inserting SIM. I've tried to search available mobile networks but I get the error message "error while searching for networks" after it tries searching for about 10 seconds.
My first thought was that the phone is locked to the AT&T network, but it did not prompt for an unlock code. I have had to reset the phone several times just to ensure that it gets to read the network. NB. (I have the network unlock code and have tried using it on the phone through alternate means to no avail) Is there anything I'm missing? I'll be glad to get your ideas. Thanks.
I am working on one also, looks like it might be a while, device is pretty locked up. Spent most the day today with my kali box trying to find any weakness. so far all I have found is that can be hacked with reverse_tcp in metasploit, not much else yet. Played with some Dirty CoW but didnt get to far with that, phone just hard reboots when the scripts are executed. If anyone else working on this wants to collaborate send me a pm.

ZTE phone bootloaders are very secure, unless its part of the ZTE Open project, best we can hope for is a root solution, anything else is a pipe dream or is far far away.
Also not to crush your hopes, a majority of phones now show that OEM Unlock button even though there is not much you can do. Busybox is just toolbox. However that said, If you like I can get you a list of all busybox commands on the phone.

WOW! good deal.
Hi,
Is anyone else having a problem with Xfinity Mobile data? I can make phone calls, but I can't get any data connection. This was a phone I bought from Sprint, and due to their messed up unlock system, it got relocked, so I manually unlocked it by using this method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75994498&postcount=360
After that, the phone got unlocked successfully. It accepted a TMO sim, and I was able to update to newer firmware. Today, I decided to put it on my Xfinity Mobile line, and I just can't make data work. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
OK. I think I narrowed down the problem. APN setting has VZWINTERNET. It's supposed to be COMCAST.RSLR.VZWENTP based on what I read on the internet. The problem is, I can't edit or add a new APN. I saw someone else talking about this APN setting problem, and his was resolved with the April security patch https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...cant-add-edit-apn-all-sudden-lost-4g-lte.html
I have that security patch already installed, but my problem persists. I can't change APN. Any help would be appreciated.
It's possible Xfinity locks the APN settings or that it has something to do with yours being the Sprint version. I would power the phone down and remove the SIM. Power the phone on with no SIM card and when you are booted up go into settings and reset the network settings. Power down again and insert your Xfinity SIM. That should ensure that the new SIM populates all the network settings.

Thank you for replying. That did not work. I don't think it's Xfinity. The problem is that APN gets locked to VZW instead of Xfinity's APN, which is why data doesn't work. I can put a TMO sim card in it and it works fine, so I don't know that there is something wrong with the phone itself. If you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate it. I'm desperate to get this working.

In a Reddit thread, a user says you need to disable Enhanced LTE:
Under Settings > More > Cellular Networks, disable "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" and set "System select" to "Automatic"
Haven't tried it myself, but I'm thinking of switching to XM and would like to know how this works out for you.
Get your original Xfinity phone factory reset the original Xfinity phone put your Sim in go through activation. This should work for you this also fixes volte on Xfinity If your volte ever gets deactivated. Anyway from what has happened to my other phones sometimes the apn can get changed on the Sim and got carried over somehow. Resetting the original Xfinity phone will bring the Sim settings back to the Sim card thus fixing your apn settings.
(Another way is to use another phone to edit the apn settings)
I also have Xfinity mobile and it's working fine. Just sometimes my apn gets uncheck and I don't know why
If you messed with bands.
Also make sure you go and download hidden settings from the playstore if you messed with your bands and selected American bands you need to select automatic bands if you messed with radio information page settings.
I messed with bands and it caused phone calls to not work.

The Sim saves apn settings and I did notice the first time using this essential phone I had 2 options in the apn and I read carefully which one to select. It may have saved the incorrect information to the Sim. I did this once on a Moto phone and I thought if I put Verizon apns instead of Comcasts I could get better speeds. But I caused my data to stop working. I reset the Moto phone and u still had the problems. I looked for the apn for Comcast couldn't find it. Then I thought of either editing the apn using another phone or using the original Xfinity phone. But it does get saved for sure. I ran into this issue before and I'm pretty sure this will resolve the problems.

Yes. I manually sideloaded Beta Oreo build, even though my phone already had the official OTA Oreo on it. That fixed the connection issue altogether.

Wow. Glad to hear your issue is resolved. Who would ever think of going back to a beta build from an official build to fix a connection issue! I may try Xfinity mobile in the near future. Thank you.

Yea, it was just a desperate move lol. Glad it'll be helpful for others.
I had the worst time making the XFinity mobile work on Android Pie with the October patches in place and finally got it working. Basically, there was no way to edit the APN configuration even with root on the device via actual Android. What I did to fix this was the following...
-Followed the rooting procedure to get TWRP and Fastboot installed
-I then used "Termux" to copy the APN points configuration file to a writable location. In my case I copied the file from "\system\etc\apns-conf.xml" to a "\sdcard\Download". Keep a copy of the original file.
-I then simply copied the file over to my computer and opened it in NotePad++. I did a search for the following string in single quotes: 'carrier="Verizon"\n mcc="311" '
-This should pull up 5 results in the search and you should confirm that each of the lines has the mnc value set to 480, 'mnc="480"'. On each of the sections that came up, I switched the following variables as shown below...
apn="COMCAST.RSLR.VZWENTP"
authtype="0"
protocol="IP"
roaming_protocol="IP"
-Once you have edited the file, copy it to a writable location on the device, like "/sdcard/Download".
-This then requires rebooting into recovery mode with TWRP and you will need to make sure you have encryption and a PIN disabled on your device to make sure you have full access to the device file system.
-Within the main TWRP page, select "Mount" and you will need to have the "System" and "Data" partitions selected.
-Return to the main page and select "Advanced" and then "File Manager".
-Next, locate the original apns-conf.xml that you copied earlier. It should show up as being in "/system/system/apns-conf.xml". Click on that file, and select "chmod 755".
-Next, navigate to where you have the edited apn file located. Copy that file over to replace the apns configuration file at "/system/system/apns-conf.xml". Just make sure you have a backup of that original file before replacing it.
-Finally, reboot your phone into the OS and you should magically have Xfinity mobile working.
This took a lot longer than I wanted to spend getting it working, but I believe this is because of the carrier ID and MCC being shared with Verizon instead of a separate one for XFinity mobile which forces it to default to the first Verizon APN setting which doesn't allow this to work. There are other ways to edit the APN configuration file, however I found it was quickest to do the actual file replacement with TWRP since that gives you full file system root access.

You couldn't cut and paste the file back with a root file manager? Maybe a magisk module? And does this lock you to Verizon?

I'm sure there are other ways to get the file back there, but I found my approach to be a quick bypass for other methods of getting root.
Regarding Verizon, It would probably break a Verizon connection for a sim carrier code of 311480. However, since this post is about Xfinity mobile, this is the quick way I got it working. In the future I want to change the priority on the APN configurations which may allow Xfinity mobile and Verizon to play nicely. The issues that have caused this are Android Pie restricting people from changing settings on the phones they own and Xfinity mobile being either too lazy or cheap to commit to their own carrier code and provide that information to manufacturers.

Breaking a Verizon contract for sim carrier code would be a drastic move, considering.. The only money you have to spend is $5 on a Verizon prepaid phone card. Go into a Verizon corporate store and they will give you a sim, ( it's $20 if you don't go to the corporate store)
