Hello everyone,
My first post ever on XDA.
I got my old man a Nexus 6P a couple months ago and he was really happy. Yesterday it's audio systems just died out of nothing. He was babying it and nothing happened to the phone. He was using his bluetooth headset though if that's got something to do with it weirdly I don't know.
But so far symptoms:
-No audio from speaker, headphone, earphone, earpiece during call, during music, during video, ringtone, nothing...
-No mic input
-No video recording probably related to above
-Videos play but no sound
What I"ve tried to fix in last 24 hours:
-Tried unplugging the earphone jack
-Tried unplugging the cameras
-Tried rubbing all the little springy connections
-Flashed the whole bootloader, system, vendor, radio, boot to no avail
-Finally when I swapped the motherboard with my mom's Nexus 6P (which has all audio working), there was no sound again.
So the last bulletin I think proves it's not the casing, not the speakers, not the daughterboard ribbon, not the ribbon behind volume keys...
Basically strong sign that it's the motherboard, but as one last try, does anyone think there is something I can try? I'm puzzled why it would happen to the motherboard out of blue like that...
Anyway any help is much appreciated but if there is no solution I'll just bite the bullet and toss the motherboard, it's just not convenient where my parents live... Regardless the sharing culture on this website is amazing and there are so many crazy smart solutions all around it, it's super cool, thanks again, I appreciate it so much!

My XDA Mini seems to think that the headphones are still plugged in when they are not. Therefore I can't hear any sound come out of it unless I plug the headphones back in. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to fix it? I have done both soft resets and hard resets. I've had the phone for 4 months with no problem until now.
I'm sorry, I can't help you, but a have a very simular problem.
I used the antenna cable connector to get better reception, but when I took out the connector it seems that the MDAc didn't switch back to internal antenna. I've got nearly no reception (~10% as usual).
Maybe someone can help us both.
This may help;

I have the same problem, and I am currently just living with it (I just a headset most of the time), but I will send it in for service sooner or later.
WD40 didn't help in my case...
ej, I had the same problem, ie no sound coming out of the rear speaker. At first I thought it was a problem with the headphone jack plug. Then I realised it was the external speaker that was defective. When you have the headphones plugged in, you should still hear the ringtone from the external speaker when someone calls you. If you do hear a ringtone, then it's the headphone switch. If you don't, it must be the external speaker.
I sent mine back to Germany (mine is an MDA Compact). T-Mobile could not repair it and replaced it with a new one!
I also had the same problem with my XDA II, and no amount of hard resets would fix it.
Strangely, it fixed itself after a few days. It seems like there's a design flaw in the sound hardware across the whole range of PPC devices produced by HTC.
I wish they'd get it sorted out!

I lost the loudspeaker-sound in my Himalya. It works using headphones. I think it may have to do with another set of headphone I connected to it, which was not original. Perhaps it put the device on permanent headphone mode. But then again it might not have anything to do with that.
Is there a Himalaya expert in Berlin - Germany who might be able to help me with it? I dread having to send it to the official reapir center, as I expect it to cost a neck and a hand.
Happened to me when I received a call whilst listening to music. I pulled the headphones out before answering the call, and then answered it. I could here them but they cvouldn't hear me. If you plug the headphones in again and remove them it solves the problem. Well it did for me anyway
I tried that. I doesn't do it. It doesn't matter what kind of sound, if Media Player file is played of phone ringing, only the headphones work. I think I need a dotor.
I have read a lot about the problem in others threads. It seems the headphone-jack can get stuck, not making a contact, which normally is being made and which turns the XDA back to speaker mode, when the headphone-jack is pulled out. Hereto:
1- What does that mean exactely? Which part is that, in what part in the on-board jack? If it had been bent out of place, is it possible to bend the part pack (at best without having to disassemble)? (I tried the ramming in and out, no go).
2- I looked at the non-original jack I had used and it is about 2 mm longer than the original. Might perhaps that explain it? Is there a part in the back that could have been bent out of place?
3- If indeed this was the problem (if the jack had been bent out of place, one way or another), would the microphone work? I can record using the dictaphone and the micophone also works during a call.
When we had himalaya's it happened to both of our devices (my wife and I had one each).
It appears the spring in the speaker can come loose. I used to bang mine (pardon the pun) on my palm and sometimes it would start to work. Then we broke the speaker protection shield, and this made it easier sometimes and hard to fix in others.
When I sold it, my friend took it apart as it was out of warranty, and as he is electrically minded, he find the dodgy bit, and soldered it to the device, and now works perfectly.
Yes! Thanks Jasjar. It worked after a bit of beating.
I found a detailed instruction of how to fix it permanently in another thread. Sounds complicated and dangerous but eventually I must do it.

Sorry for kicking the topic, but this was the solution for me. I just poked in the headphone-jack with a little stick and tataaaa... my sound is back!
Sound lost problem
Hi all,
same happen to me, the sound stoped working (on my side it had nothing to do with the phone jack).
After the modifaication which is described in this forum i had still the same problem so i solder the loud speaker directly - still same problem...
After some time i flashed the device again, now it works, so on my side it was a software problem...
The device was 3 month out of power, but i think remove the battery and if the sound appears on startup (on first boot) but later not, then flash the os and it will work ...

And now it works fine!
He says he'll never put phones on it again... lol

Looking for more Info
Hi, please help me find which points in the MDAII Motherboard can I solder to disable the headphones and get the audio and mic back to the MDA.
After a while my headphone-jack is broken from the motherboard and now I only have the pin outs in it.
The device is working perfect, and I can use bluetooth headphones. I just don't have audio in the speaker and no mic without bluetooth.
I hope someone can tell me which of the red points en the picture can I solder to disable the headphones.
I just want to do this temporally until I get a replacement spare part for it.
Thanks
EDIT: 12-12-2007
I got it. Just joining 1 and 3 and you will get audio back to the PDA disabling the headphones jack.
Thanks anyways for reading this..
Did you find out what all the mboard pins are for the jack?
I have a dodgy jack and would like to take flying leads of the mboard jack to an external (easily changed) inline jack. Does any know what the 1 to 6 pins correlate to. I would like to still switch the audio via the external jack. Not bothered about the mic.
TIA.
has anyone had a issue with the headphone jack i got the phobe 3 weeks ago and in the 1st week the head phone jack gave me a static noise and it would skip songs and pause/play them also it also would activate Google assistant , I got it replaced and the replacement has given me the same problem and yes i changed the wires i was not using the same ones as the one prior to the replacement just want to know if anyone else is having this issue cause this has occured on 2 lg g6 i have owned in less then a month

Mines just started doing this. Is there a fix other than replacing it?
try other headphones?
This sounds like the audio jack problem from the LG G3. Do your headphones have integrated microphones? The LG G3's problem is, that using headphones without microphone produces the same behaviour like mentioned above. The audio stops/starts playing when twisting the headphone plug because it loses connection for a moment and therefore stops the music. Using headphones with integrated microphones solves this issue because of the additional pole for it in the headphone plug.
I have the same when i connect it to my car's amplifier via an aux cable

That could be it, I usually use wireless headphones in the gym but I forgot them when I went to the gym the other day. Also I noticed it when I use my Aux cable in the car.
Yeah i have that too!, it's like you're describing my phone.
Are it the ones with the dac?

Actually it's been said that earphones of same model with microphone have less clarity than without mic of same.

I made a post on reddit LGG6 sub with pictures regarding this issue. Hope it helps anyone who comes across this thread.
there's a head phone jack ?
I prefer blueteeth.
somehow i missed this thread before. I posted on here about my problem recently. Mine started having a problem back in May or June where it will loose the left audio channel when plugged in to the car stereo after some time playing. reconnecting the cable would help for 5-10 mins before it would do it again. hard to deal with when driving on the highway. Then it got to the point where bumping the connector would cause the google assistant to keep coming on or the popping noise in the speakers or making the songs pause or skip to the next one. I got a replacement and it's fine so far. So worrisome. And this happened on someone elses car as well and with 3 different aux cables. So that rules out a faulty car stereo or cable.

Well i went out of town today and the phone did good until i was a mile from home then the left audio channel started cutting out when playing music on Poweramp. Dammit. i unplugged the aux cable and plugged it in again but less then a minute later it started doing it again. wiggling the connector didn't make a difference. anyone have this issue? I don't know if it's related to the jack issue or a software issue. I just got this replacement phone last Wednesday. I"m an audiophile so it pains me that i can't use a "real" quality audio player on this phone without skipping or the audio channel cutting out like this. I never had so many problems with my other android phones except the motorola Razr HD i used to have.

Headphone jack problem solved
Hi all. I had the same headphone jack problem a while ago as described by the op, and i found this post //imgur. com/ gallery/ 5cou6 (should have https in front + fix the space, as i am a new member and not allowed to post outside link), followed the simple fix, and have never had any issue ever since. Hope it helps
Update: Ups. Just noticed that someone had already posted it haha. Anyway, try that first before you bring it to service center
Hello,
I have seen a few people with an issue where if the phone gets wet, audio completely stops, and apps that use the speakers or microphone act very odd. https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/nexus-6p-audio-playback-error-app-t3476592 this is one of a few posts with the same issue.
Essentially audio won't won't through anything but Bluetooth, and apps like YouTube, Play Music, Sound Recorder, Video Recorder (but not camera as is doesn't use the microphone) all act strangely, and different from each other. Play Music for example constantly loads songs then skips to the next. The Camera works great, but as soon as it is switched to video, it says "cannot connect to camera."
I'm trying to figure out why this happens, and how to fix it. Some have said that cleaning the microphone works, but that doesn't seem to help most, and didn't work in my case. The microphone is not replaceable on the board. Actually there are three, but the "main" one on the back seems to be the common issue, but may not be.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
My uneducated guess would be moisture in the connections causing circuit shorts when enabled. If you arent feeding anything to the speakers or from the mic, the connections dont short out because there is nothing doing.
After having the 6P apart twice, the best guess for a fix I would have is to disassemble it and disconnect anything that has a ribbon cable. You can disconnect the front facing camera, bottom speaker, etc. Then let the whole thing dry out and reassemble. NOTE: disassembling this phone is not for the faint of heart! I did it to replace my battery and ended up cracking the LCD panel in the process.

I actually have the phone apart. I've cleaned all the corrosion off of everything with 90% isopropyl alcohol. The phone wouldn't turn on when I got it, now everything but the weird sound issue works great. It's been disassembled for weeks and is definitely dry, so no short circuit. At this point, I don't think the phone can be saved, but maybe. Plus, I'm super curious about why this is happening.
As written here:
Hi guys, I think I solved the problem.
After a factory reset, my phone didn't play any sound from the speakers (neither the top nor the bottom), couldn't record anything from the mic, couldn't record any type of video with the stock Google camera ("Can't connect to the camera" or 0:00 seconds long videos) and YouTube acted weird sometimes.
I spent to days looking for a solution, and I understood that the problem was in the headphone jack. It remains triggered as if there were headphones inserted, someone resolved inserting and removing a real device in the headphone jack 3 or 4 times, but it was not my case.
I took the phone apart, physically disconnected the headphone jack and then rebooted the device. All the problems are gone! The sounds came back perfectly from both speakers, the camera can now record video and the mic is working. After this test I turned off the phone, reconnected the headphone jack, rebooted and still no problems. The headphone jack works fine too, and YouTube has no problems reproducing videos.
I even tried two factory reset and everything is still working fine! I hope to be helpful to someone, this procedure has solved my problem!
Alright i am going to make a new thread, i created an album on imgur and posted on reddit and in another thread here, but still have people asking how to fix it. Hopefully this turns up in google/xda forum search.

LG G6 suffering from intermittent disconnections, Google Assistant popups or track skipping? Simple fix for that, no need to send the phone in or have it replaced.
Side note: I am what some would call an audiophile/audio enthusiast, and I also work in the live sound industry, where setting up sound systems and operating them also requires me to play songs off my phone to keep you entertained at times. My ATH-M50x started to suffer from the above problems with all 3 cables and i was wondering what happened, apparently LG has bad manufacturing tolerances and this is the result. When the tabs get depressed, the intermittent connections cause the phone to go crazy, and cables with 4-pole/TRRS (meaning with a mic) tend to be
very slightly larger than the standard 3-pole/TRS jack. Hence other people mentioning that 4-pole cables working while standard 3-pole doesn't.
You saved me from sending my phone back.
Thanks 1000 times!!
I replied in the other topic already, but seems that one is dead.
Thanks a bunch for this wonderful tip, no more crackling sound when connecting, no more sudden voice assistant popping up. :highfive::good:
Oh my goodness, thank you so much, first my camera, then the audio jack, glad I could save the audio jack! It's a nice phone, but I feel like quality wise it's half way there compared to other phones. Thank you again!
Perfect!
Thanks man, it perfectly worked! You made my day!:good:
OMG ! thanks, i love you! I started with this problem after immersing it in the water. Then I noticed that the plug had been sulphated and I cleaned it with alcohol.
Thanks, thanks, thanks. I just before three days bought ATH-MSR7 and I was thinking that I have bad original audio cable. So problem is gone.
This worked for me and fixed my headphone jack, just encouraged the right hand tab out slightly and the intermittent connection is must more reliable.
Thank you sir
:victory:
thanks!!
You're a lifesaver.
A huge thanks again, my problem wasn't that serious but with the auxiliary cable just moving around a bit creating a buzzing noise while driving due to a loose contact was just annoying me knowing this phone isn't that old
Thanks man , from ??
