I got my 8525 in January and upgraded the rom in May. The last few days peeps have said they can't hear me and some weird stuff starts happening on the screen ie the bar just starts going up and down and the ie comes up.... I called support and they are sending me a replacement under warranty which is great BUT they made a big deal about if THEY decided it was dropped or liquid was involved I would be charged 500 bucks. I said fine because I know I have only had normal wear and tear...but now I started wondering what if they just say you broke it???? They already said I couldn't get it back so my queation is has anybody found them to screw you or???
d
No personal experience with warranty service, but if you've upgraded it to WM6 I'd advise against sending it in with that, otherwise you will be $500 lighter.
Nope only have the official Rom.....

I have had warranty replacement - same stern warnings as you. No problem. If you look under the sim card, there is probably a little white square in there - very small. It should be white. That is mostly how they determine if there is water damage. If it is white, you should not have anything to worry about - if it is pink/purple, you will probably get charged.
I've dealt with ATT/Cingular on a few occasions with my 8525 and 8125. I've never had a single issue with them charging me for the replacement.
How it usually goes is that I'll tell them upfront, and clearly, what the issue is. I'll describe in detail what I've done to fix it, i.e. hard resets, etc.
As long as you know what you're talking about and let them know that you're very proficient with the device, I think they realize there's nothing more they can do for you and accept the return in the condition you state it's in. The people you talk to aren't engineers after all, they work in a call center. No offense meant, but they're mostly scripted in what knowledge they have of the device. h

I believe you are correct as my call was very short. I told them right off the bat I had hard reset, soft reset, and they agreed to replace. I just started wondering if some yo yo would get it and just for kicks bill me the 500 and than how could I prove anything?? Thanks

Thanks to all for the information, I'll need to arrange a warranty replacement for my 8525, I have an unresponsive screen.
One question, What do they ask you in the phone call? I mean, number of receipt, date of purchase, acc number or what?
I bought my device from a friend but right now I live en NY and he lives in NJ so If he has to talk with att about the warranty I'll have to ship the phone to him, so he can ship the defective phone back to att.
Right now the 8525 appears as my device in the info online and I was wondering if I can do something from here or my friend has to talk to them directly.
Thanks again for the info and thanks in advance for any input.
No, you won't have to involve your friend. As long as you have AT&T service, you can get it replaced. It doesn't matter when or where you got the phone since it was JUST released this last November and it has a 1 year warranty.
Hope that helps.

Hi
I'm currently working for cingular warranty exchange (now ATT wireless)
And yes you can send the phone to warranty exchange and not be charged as long as there is no physical/liquid damage. However, with data devices, they have a clause where in they reserve the right to charge you if they see that the problem was caused by a third party software loaded into your system. This RARELY happens though. You can play it safe by saying you never downloaded anything and you only download from the cingular site if all else fails.

I don't know about USA, I had my TyTN sent to HTC repair center in UK and they asked me to sent them the original package with all accesories included.
They repaired it and sent me back my device (they did'nt replace it) in the same package.

Well, like 9 weeks ago, my cellphone stoped to work normaly, I called rogers to asked what happened. At first they didnt gave me a solution, they just told me to sent my device to technical support. After wait 8 days, I received a call to go pick up my device, when I was there they told me that my cellphone was blacklisted. I didnt understand why because i bought my celllphone at rogers in october. So they told to wait 2 business day to get unblacklisted. After wait more than 4 days, my cellphone was still not working so I decided to call rogers to ask. They told me again to wait 2 business day again because the mistaked was did for Asurion who is the company who offer the device protection services. Asurion put my device in the blacklist for error. Well guys then a lot of calls and chats and till now I dont have any solution and I still pay for my cellphone. Im really desesperate because I work with it and I already lost a lot of money. I just called yesterday to rogers and they told me that they can not do anything because this case is now in the president office. I called asurion to times and they told me the same, they cant do anything. So what to di guys? Hope you can help me. Rogers already gave 2 value packs for free, its 24 dollas. I paid for my cellphone more than 100 because me and my family have 4 phones with rogers. Its not ridicul what they gave me?
Hope you understand what i want to explain and hope you will help me. I will be here to answer all the questions. If someone are thinking that this device is stoled I can send proof that the device is mine. No problem. Thank you.
You're going to have to hope they get it off the blacklist. Changing your imei is illegal in many countries.

Amazon generally doesn't make mistakes like that and if they do, they have the means to properly verify the situation and correct it as needed. That said, if the story really is as you say it is and not some ill conceived scam, then surely they will help you out. If not, there is probably a very valid reason for their red flag. This is Amazon we are talking about here, not some crappy little generic internet retailer.
To my fellow XDA'ers- I implore you to not involve yourself in matters like this, ESPECIALLY when the account posting is so new with very little history (7 posts). Let him ask his family or friends for help, not random people he doesn't know on the internet. That's a huge red flag there. Don't let yourselves get scammed.
Ok, If you think I'm fooling people and convincing them for some bad work, I'm closing this thread.

Hi Xda would be really helpful if anyone could help with this one.
Bascially my cuzon bought a Note 4 on Ebay and when it came shortly after we discovered he was having major issues with the phone he was losing 3G and 4G and sometimes texts would go and sometimes they wouldn't.
Anyway we took this up with the buyer who said he would send us another one once he had received this one back. We sent the device back and revived the same one back i knew this when i compared the imei number. This was about 6 months ago since then the case has gone cold Ebay has done nothing and the seller and disappeared, after taking this to trading standards they have hit a brick wall. They are still trying at the present time but they have told us that we are stuck with the device.
When i spoke to Samsung about these issues they told me something interesting that the device was a none-UK device and im pretty sure non-EU.
So my question is this, is there anyway that this issue could be fixed. The device works brilliantly apart from that, i was thinking (Although not sure) Would flashing a UK stock rom work or anything along those lines.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,
Just wanted to post this out to help other people who may have experienced their LG G4 bootlooping. My device bootlooped last weekend. I had purchased it from a mobile recycling website, it was refurbished, it had 505 serial number, I also had the bootloader unlocked and was running Cyanogenmod 14.1.
I contacted LG as I thought I had nothing to loose, they asked me for proof of purchase and they repaired my device within a week and send replaced the motherboard and now the serial number is 611. No questions asked about bootloader or custom rom.
I reported it on the Monday, they picked it up on Tuesday, they dispatched it on the Friday and I received it today (Monday). I was very impressed with the turn around, so if there is anybody in the same situation, try sending it to LG and you never know your luck!
I am based in the UK and I arranged everything with LG over live chat.

Was it under warranty? If not, how much did this cost?
guys pls upload somwhere service papers
Only clean imei. thanks.
really? Are they repairing unlocked devices? Sounds awesome!
I just got my phone back today i can concur. But when i got it back, the bootloader was locked again. so i've been trying to remember how i rooted it last time.
Well, if they're replacing the motherboard I'm guessing you don't get any of your original data back off it. New motherboard = new ROM chip with fresh, stock data, including bootloader.

They are legally obliged to, regardless of bootloader status.
Every device/electrical good sold in the EU has a 2 year manufacturer warranty as standard (regardless of what retailers tell you). If you can prove the device was faulty at the point of sale, in this case that's easy as LG have admitted a manufacturing defect, it doesn't matter what software modifications you've made, it's on LG to fix it.

LG asked me for the IMEI/Serial number. I provided this and they accepted the repair. To be honest with you I have no idea whether it was under warranty as the device was refurbished.
No cost, totally free and turned around very quickly

The UK doesn't fall in to that ruling I'm afraid - we're covered better by the Sale of Goods Act.
Same happened here a few weeks ago. Sent it off on Tuesday and received on Saturday fully working

Here in the UK I got this response after sending in my proof of purchase:
"Having looked at the supplied proof of purchase, the item listing and the individual seller, the unit is out of the box when sold as such appears to have been resold to yourself. As such, our manufacturer’s warranty does not extend to cover second hand, refurbished or re-conditioned handsets, therefore we will be unable to book this in for a repair."

I even forgot my proof of purchase but by the time I told them, they already sent it back to me working
In sweden , just last year they would claim, their units would not be affected and my claims was baseless. As if we would not have EU based units and 505 would just be a coincidence... ****ers...
