Older Head-units supporting Android Auto and Apple Carplay? - Android Head-Units

Hi everyone,
I had a quick question. I want to know if you all know which older head-units can be upgraded with an software update to Android Auto and Apple Carplay?
I seen a few online by Pioneer that offers the upgrade. I wanted to see if there are any more......
The ones I saw so far were by Pioneer AVIC-4100, 7100, and 8100 NEX
I'm not sure if anyone already posted about this......

What to do? I have two Android HUs

Hi People,
I have two Android HUs. I have a brand new still in the box Eonon GA6163F and currently have installed a Joying JY-UL128N2. I first purchased the Eonon but have seen so many issues with it's performance so decided to get the Joying but not a fan of how it looks in my car and prefer the Eonon as it was made more the car.
I tired selling the Eonon on eBay but people offered silly low offers.
Is there anyway to upgrade the Eonon to improve performance? I read the thread about upgrading RAM but I don't have the skills for this or know anyone that does. Is there a SOM that I can purchase or silly questions use parts from one with the other?
Thanks for any help

Assuming the EONON is a MTCB/C unit
1. Get the latest 5.1.1 ROM from here
2. Root with Kingo root
3. Enter settings, Apps, ALL tab and disable all Google apps
4. DON'T update Google Maps, newer versions require Google services
5. Get the apks for your preferred apps from an apk repository like apkmirror.com
With these simple steps you will have a 5.1.1 unit as fast as a 4.4 one.

Thanks for the info. So you think the the 1GB Eonon will be around the same speed as the 2GB Joying?
Does anyone know if the Eonon is a MTCB/C unit? I haven't installed or unpacked it so I cannot check.

I've sold a couple of HUs on Craigs List and got my asking price - but these were removed from service, not unopened.

Best 8.0 HU & Ford Voice Control

Hi guys. I want to upgrade my Ford Galaxy (2011) to an android head unit. I've noticed that a lot of new octa core, 4gb RAM units running Android 8 are now out. Please could I have some personal opinions on the best of the bunch. I've looked at Pumpkin, Xtrons, Eonon etc.
Secondly, does anyone know if Ford Voice Control would still work? I'm assuming not for music etc but I'm hoping that it would at least for dialing phone numbers handsfree.
Thanks in advance

First off, anything you see that says "8.0".... take that with a grain of salt. The chinese way is to mislabel older things to pretend to be something newer. In fact, I would be seriously shocked if you see something with GENUINE 8.0 from china in less than a couple of years. They are *always* 2 years behind.
Secondly, and the dead giveaway on this, is that Android 8.0+ includes some very car-centric features. The UI on it looks very similar to Android Auto. If you don't see that, then its NOT Android 8.0.
THIRD, there really wasn't much changed in 8.1 over 8.0. Nothing that would make building it any more complicated than running a repo sync followed immediately by a make. There is nobody in the entire world who is going to be using 8.0.
Want to try something really fun?

REAL Android 8.1-ish (actually from the master branch, which is somewhere between 8.1 and "P") in your car.
look around on youtube to see what others have done. i have installed a new 8.0 4gb/32gb in my ford kuga (escape) and also installed mtcd dialler for voice dialing and it works fine. the steering wheel controls works too. all good
Can u tell me brand and model?
Thanks

I installed a TEYES CC3 in my BMW E46 from 2003 and it's a fantastic Android 10 car radio, the screen is fabulous, the sound is really really good. Otherwise you look it up on Youtube. https://www.teyes.com.au/products/t...ord focus&_ss=e&_v=1.0&variant=37995060101316
Note the above comment "teyes" is actually a "FYT" unit for which there are many "brands" - resellers OEM and badge them. There are alot of bugs with these units.
My suggestions (tldr; Avoid Greybox Chinese origin Android and purchase a genuine Android auto unit)
If you're hobbyist, Chinese origin greybox Android might be OK. Accept the reseller will make all sorts of claims about the unit (including Android Auto support) and compatibility with your vehicle.
There will be bugs and issues to work through. In the end you may have to accept these bugs as the reseller stops communicating with you and you turn to xda for support.
Note there is limited support and few active developers. We don't have source code and mods are typically workarounds.
Then there is genuine Android Auto. Refer Google website for list of genuine makes and models. https://www.android.com/auto/compatibility/

[Android Head Unit] [CarPlay] [Chinese] [8227L]

hello guys.
I've ordered a long time ago this android head unit: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/329..._list.0.0.2bc4586aWLTEcq&gatewayAdapt=glo2isr
I have the 2GB + 32GB.
of course, the fake 8.1, and all that crap.
anyway, I've already installed some other firmwares over time .
for now. I have some firmware i've installed from here, 10 android version without HIFI.
my main question is: can I make this device support apple car play? in any way? that works great (really not fine but great, without any lags ).
after many times that I used apple car play in other cars, I just feel that is a very big gadget that I must have!
I've tried to download some "Car play" apps online, but my iphone don't recognize anything..
if someone have some firmware / update or something that works with it ,with any other cool stuffs like DSP/split screen, that will be amazing!
thank you very much!!

General question on Android auto head unit chinese model 8227

Hello,
i recently purchased a new (but old) car that is equipped with an android auto head unit model 8227. i found out after the purchase that it is basically a chinese knock off ( as i understand it)
i'd like to link my phone to it so i can use the maps app as well as possibly stream music from the phone to the unit.
i tried using the android auto app from the play store but it is not detecting it, and the Tima app that seems to be recommended is poorly rated (im even suspecting malware).
Also android 8 is quite old, but the unit seems stable even though it lacks a dedicated equalizer. (i found one in the music app, but the app itself is not very functional)
I'm not sure upgrading it is the best path here.
do others have experience with this unit? and how have you linked your phone to it ?
cheers.

Op, these are not Android Auto. Given the low spec, suggest better off buying a new unit. If wanting genuine Android Auto, refer to googles list of officially sanctioned headunits (none of which are Chinese knockoffs)
that's what i was my feel as well. thanks for the feedback
