Best VR Headset? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

What will be the compatible VR Headset for Oneplus 6T? Want to buy one and I am confused about it. Please help?

I bought the Google Daydream for $50. I would not spend that much, the low resolution on 6T sort if kills the experience. Really needs QHD at minimum for proper VR. That said, I still like using it.
HILARIOUSLY enabling Google Daydream support breaks stock camera video. HILARIOUS because GCam works fine.

Interesting. I tried my Daydream that came with my Pixel XL & I got a message saying the phone was incompatible, then it exits. That's from the Daydream app. Maybe another app works?

You own a OnePlus 6T...
Incompatibility should never stop you... Make it work...

[Q] Gear VR - is it worth it?

Hey, I don't have the Note 4 yet, but really interested simply for the Gear VR.
My main concern is, is the resolution enough to comfortably (and enjoyably) watch a full HD movie on it?
Any thoughts? I am actually dying to know (without making an expensive mistake of course)!
Thanks.
not worth it. best to wait until we get actual decent 3D goggles with high res screens for each eye.
the only good experience ive had with 3D was with two 4K high res projectors with horizontal+vertical polarization and polarized glasses. worked extremely well.
It depends what you expect. Resolution is about 720p. If you into watching movies or technology lover then is a must. Otherwise you can live without. I got mine and I like it. For a long time we cant expect product what will satisfy everyone.

Hey! that's an entirely different technology and an unfair comparison! right? that's not immersive 3D.

That's true, but can you comfortably watch an entire movie; does it feel as comfortable as watching a 720p movie on YouTube, or are you bothered by the pixels?
For me is ok. I can watch whole movie laying in bed and looking at the ceiling. Pixels, hmm if you think about them and concentrate on them, then they are there. If you into movie then they are gone. You need to realize that picture bever going to be perfectly sharp but that is the way how optics work. Phone is only about 1.5" from the face.

The Gear VR does indeed come with an adjustment dial; however, I just leave it on the setting closest to my face because that seems to be the best setting [for me].

Although everyone's experience it different, I do not have an issue watching an entire [3D] movie with the Gear on. Is it the most comfortable thing though? Probably not :silly: The pixel issue or screen door effect (or whatever it's called) is definitely there and I won't deny that, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest unless I intentionally look for them pixels

Personally, I think the $200 price tag is nothing for someone who can afford a Note 4.
Think of it like this: $200 for a full 360 degree experience with games and a cinema mode that mimics a screen size that feels larger than anything that can fit in a typical house.
In the end, the decision will be entirely yours.
Have u tried Google cardboard? There are quite a few apps that support it. You can watch 3d trailer from YouTube. The effect is quite good. However, you still able to see pixels on note 4. I guess gear vr will be the same

I actually installed google carboard app on my note and use it with gear vr. It is not the same. Google carboard experience makes me feel like im ready to throw up while oculus app gives very smooth experience i can enjoy for hours. Gear vr has gyro build in and being used by oculus app while carboard relies on phone sensors.

This is an interesting discussion - I am not pixel hungry and I will not go hunting for pixels, however, I want to experience an immersive 3D movie or a 'cinema like effect' when watching a 2D video.
e.g. we can comfortably watch a movie on any laptop reasonably from a distance of 1/2 a meter, providing the experience compares to this, I think it would be ok.
I guess what we have to think about is, its not just the screen thats 1.5" from your eyes, the screen is also somewhat magnified which will add to pixel visiblity.
Its a shame there is no where to try out the Gear VR... I guess thats the only way of knowing for your self and being satisfied. Its expensive overall, for a relatively new craze.

There are several different viewing modes when viewing movies with the VR Cinema, including one that is a virtual movie theater - this is the mode I use when viewing 3D movies because I feel the virtual environment tricks me into believing there is depth.
& I would much rather view movies with the Gear VR, assuming that the video is of high quality.

There are Samsung stores that allow you to test out the Gear VR? I did not even know of their existence until recently stumbling upon an article about it. Not sure if we have any in America S:

The Mi 5s lacks of OIS

What do you think about that? Is that really important? My hands are very shaky tough, I have a z1 compact now, and I can't really get clear photos at night.

I have the original MI 5 and now I can't imagine life without OIS....
Night pictures are significantly better, video shooting, when held by hand is better, and overall photo blurriness is lower.
However the dual cameras have some advantages too, like on the huawei P9, but as seen on the redmi pro, xiaomi hasn't done much to make the second camera count...
The MI 5s is a better phone than the MI5 as hardware goes, but imho the dual camera setup is just a gimmick for now
Why would they omitt ois on the regular 5s? So the mi5 had it?
Mi5 regular has it yes
Are you 100% sure, the normal 5s (not the 5s plus) lacks OIS?

I wouldn't completely agree on this. The combination of colour and BW sensor produces better night time photos, as BW sensor is much more sensitive and when combined with colour info from the other sensor it can produce a better overall image in challenging lighting conditions. If they've implemented photo app as they should, results should actually be better.

What's interesting is that Google Pixel with the same IMX378 (without OIS) competes with the iPhone 7, thanks to its software engine. I am thinking... it could be possible to import their engine to mi5S? It's something like camera app related or deeper?
If you want good 4k video it's a deal breaker. I have the Mi5S and made a comparison against a S6 Edge+

Comparing it side to side one sees the difference, but looking at just MI5S it seems good just as well. I wouldn't worry too much. 5s uses Sony's sensor. A very good one.

It depends if you make video in 4k or 2k. In 2k you have electrical image stabilizer (EIS) working, which is a help. In 4k you don't have it though. For photos it's also disabled.
As the Mi 5s (currently) runs on android 6 and the google Pixel on 7.1, there is no chance to port to image engine at the moment. Only time will tell if that changes in the future.
This is a deal breaker for me.
I really thought I found the perfect phone.
But seeing how shaky videos are, IDK what to do now...
In my country, the 5s is about 350e, it's new, not many are selling it yet.
But the 5 is about 260-280e and there are a few sellers.
I love the 1080p 120fps, but the lack of OIS on the 5s is killing me.
Should I get the regular Mi 5?
Should I just swallow the fact that the 5s doesn't have OIS?
I hear it's EIS but only for 1080p and only for video.
I've seen photos, I'm confident I won't mind in that area, but the 4k OIS, or lack of...
Do you guys think I'm making this too much of a problem when it's really not?
I was searching for the perfect phone that was also not too expensive. That doesn't charge for the name.
This is really making me sad... Almost had it.
Do you even have something that can play and display 4k videos? I don't, so I don't make any 4k videos in any case.

I do...
LG 4k OLED.
I paid big money for it. Would hate to see shaky video on such a nice TV.
Imagine sitting down with someone, watching videos from travelling or something, and seeing how shaky your phone camera is...
When I spend big money on electronics, I expect them to provide good quality.
However, I dislike spending money on brand name. That's why I don't want to spend x2 more on a phone by Samsung, or similar.
Xiaomi is 1 of those brands that doesn't really make you pay for the name.
My TV is different, since, when I bought it, it was 1 of a kind. Truly outstanding quality. OLED was exclusive to LG.
Also, my monitor is 4k.
That's why this is a deal breaker for me. The lack of OIS on Mi 5s.
And that's why I'm really torn apart, whether to get the Mi 5. It's older phone, but the CPU isn't that big of a difference. It's like 5% difference on energy savings.
However, the bigger pixel size, looks to be good and photos are better, even without OIS and even in low light, on the Mi 5s.
Still don't know what to do.
I anyway wouldn't film with my mobile, for that I have a camera which also has built in zoom function But I know what you mean.
The Mi 5 is also a good phone, also it's only a bit older than 7 months, which is still very new. You might want to check out the new Oneplus 3T or Meizu phones, maybe they have an OIS.

I feel the same, I'm happy with 2K EIS.
Maybe a clever Dev will find a way to unlock EIS on 4K, it sounds very possible.
I feel many people are waiting for the grey version to become available again, once they have shipped we should see more development for this device.

Love my ZTE Axon 7 but ...

So far I felt that Axon 7 is great, not just because of what you get for the price tag, but also just raw future-proofing myself with good hardware + daydream capabilities.
My wife just got the new Pixel phone.
I think the pixel's camera is just freaking amazing, beyond any camera I saw in previous phones (asus/samsung) and camera quality is the only issue me and others have with the ZTE Axon 7.
Yes I installed an external app "Snap Camera HDR" which is not bad.
Am I just overreacting here ? thinking about replacing the phone, paying a lot more but getting the best camera I've ever experienced.
Or .. maybe a FW upgrade is still able to fix some of the Axon 7th issues, especially low light.
Has anyone read about plans to improve the camera ?
What do you think about Pixel vs. Axon 7 with regards to camera ?
The pixel better have the best camera since it's $900+...
Who knows, the camera app might get better with nougat
I remember that the HTC M9 was rubbish with his 20mgpxls camera and they managed to improve it with updates so it's possible.
For me, if i want to take great photos, i use my Samsung NX500 camera.
Of course i want my phone to take decent photos but i never look at them elsewhere than on my screen phone so not a big deal.
Plus, i guess most people just upload their photos on social media and that's it

I really thought about it but cant see paying 500 bucks more for a 128 GB pixel XL over the Axon 7 just for a much better camera.
I will wait until next summer if there is a reasonable phone with a bigger battery/camera.
pixel is overpriced. xiaomi mi 5s got the same sensor as pixel - Sony IMX 378.
I'm completely with you Op. I think this is a great device but the camera does make me ask the same question. I usually own one device at a time, for a period of time and u like it to be a one stop shop. This had everything i want except a decent camera and it does bother me. I just don't know how important that is just yet..!

Totally agree with you. You can grab a T6i with the Canon Printer Rebate bundle for 500-600 during this Holiday season which can last for another 5-6 years easily. In my opinion, its not worth spending another 500 just for the camera alone.

LOL thats sad... So many people are excited to buy a ****ty phone that records audio in 1950's mono sound... Wow. Awesome
Gotta be a idiot to want a Pixel.. Its a Toys R Us cell phone for people who like to spend money...
BTW. I returned my Axon 7 within a week.. Got a Xperia X Performance. Not even goonna look back... Axon could have made a nice product but stopped just short of it..
Same here. Couldn't justify the cost of of the Pixel for the camera. If it's an important event or whatever I carry a real camera.
This phone rocks. I find software is a bit lame and not up with the times.
I'm used to the camera now... And like the guys are saying i use my nikon if i want to take shoots. Just a bit of extra lighting in the night and the pics suffice. Software is a growing gripe 😣

was going to pick up an axon 7 but they are sold out everywhere. even backordered on amazon.
newegg doesn't say they are backordered and for the couple of days its 350 bucks instead of 400 .. but you do have to deal with Newegg and I have heard people have been having issues with them
Newegg has some dope ass deals

I ordered from them just to get the headphones. Unfortunately since I have a Newegg warehouse in my state I had to pay taxes on it.
If you care about high quality camera so much, get a dedicated camera device. Even Pixel will not beat a DSLR. I wouldn't pay difference between Axon7 and Pixel just for camera.
Axon 7 has a great camera under good light. Low light is a whole different world. My s7 edge murders my axon 7 in camera. Everything else this phone can do better. And it's cheaper. I purchased mine from newegg and it was a defect. Now I have to send it in for repair to ZTE. Glad they'll take care of me unlike newEgg ignoring ass. No return or exchange edit: HOWEVER if you turn on the night mode option and have a tripod to hold the phone really steady it takes a great night picture. It is possible.

isnt the lg 360vr compatible with other phones besides the G5? you would think so. I think VR is still a year away anywhere on phones. Everyone is going crazy over the daydream vr, but why? what games are even out for it? Just looks like a bunch of "tech demos" to me so far. I wouldnt stress over it till its established and theres actually games for it.
The VR experience on a phone with LCD screen and its slow refresh rate is far inferior compared to Amoled screens. I would not bother with VR on the V20. On the Samsung S7 edge and note, I did enjoy VR. Tried it on the HTC 10 with LCD and the experience was dismal.

Yesterday I bought a 360 VR (LG-R100). no apps, no market, no games just able to play 3d videos, some tech demos. No support for cardboard apps, no support daydream apps. out of focus with low resolution. Just don't buy...
So I see this has not been commented on in over a year. I just received the LG 360 VR and the quality of the glasses is not as bad as reviews state.. Shooting 1080p @ 120fps ?

Dear s8 users & future s8 users
It blows my mind knowing the fact that in 2017 a freaking flagship phone from Samsung the mighty s8 does not have an option to shoot 1080p at 120fps. For videographers its a must.
It shoots freaking 4k but can't do this.
Honestly I bought this phone thinking it would have this... but I am completely lost here.
Any way on this guy's. What do you think.. is there any workaround currently
Please anonyone correct me if I'm wrong, but the capabilities solely depend on the sensor (which is last year's by the way since the S7 had the same one), so your only option is filming 60fps 1080p, then adding frame interpolation using After Effects or software like SlowmoVideo.

That's not the point. You have a feature you MUST have and spend 700 bucks or so without checking if the phone can do it?
It's like complaining that it doesn't have a 4k display but should have because Sony has had it for years, or that it doesn't come with stock Android but Google did it for over a decade.
Samsung decided to leave it out for a reason. No Need to complain about it. It's not like it's false advertising or so... Unlike the ufs thingy...
