good morning I'm new in this good forum my question is you can enable the 4g network or lte for this line sprint my s5 only works with the band 3g
Thank you for your attention
Can Only say this.... (seeing how we all would need a bit more actual Info)
Is there LTE from "Sprint" in your area?
Do you travel outside your "area" a lot?
You stated "sprint my s5 only works with the band" However, IS this phone a true "Sprint" or are you on a different Carrier? (e.g. whom do you pay for your service?) ( There are several fewer, smaller/newer, Carriers, that actual Run on Sprint 3g, and not LTE...)
What is the actual set up that you are working with? ( Info on the following is needed. ---- Rom, Kernel, Magisk, Magisk Modules, SSU, Exposed, etc.)
The Easy way,- just "Edit" your Q, with all the info.
I am sure that once you update your Q. you will have a correct answer. Again, there are smaller Carriers that do use the same phone and Sprint's 3G network. Those are not actual able to use 4g or LTE! Might really get into major headaches trying to get out of a Brick!
Just stating Facts.
Thanks

I'm a Cellular South user who's reallllly lusting after the Epic 4G -- sadly it looks like it's going to be the only Galaxy S slider released. Once the phone is released and rooted, would it be possible for the phone to work on non-Sprint carriers? I've currently got a HTC Hero, and I know for the longest time our ROMs were based off of the Sprint RUU.
Just curious if this is plausible, very likely, or not a chance in hell.
Thanks,
DrHogie
Sure it will be possible just like the Hero was. 4G won't be possible, but the phone will be able to at least make calls until you figure out any of the other stuff needed for data and market.
How compatible do you think this phone would be with MetroPCS? Also, I heard that LTE could be added with a firmware update on this phone, or at least phones like it. Is that true? If so, do you think it might work on other future 4G networks, like that of Verizon or Metro? Sorry for all the potentially silly questions, I've never shopped for a CDMA phone before.
LTE uses a SIM card I believe so without the hardware built into the pone, you couldn't use it on that kind of network.
I read a blog with an interview of a Sprint higher up saying that they could potentially change the technology of 4g quickly and cheaply in places that currently have 4g. However, I don't know if that means another set of GSM 3G vs CDMA 3G like we have now. Maybe it would be a CDMA LTE that doesn't use a SIM?
Hopefully they just leave well enough alone. I know the technology will be different at Verizon (LTE) and T-MO(HSPA+), but differences usually foster growth for the best to keep up. I guess that would also eliminate a roaming data possiblity.
Who knows...lots of questions.
LTE isn't CDMZA based, it is its own beast.
This is where I read about the SIM card http://gizmodo.com/5590530/leaked-documents-and-lte-sim-show-verizon-4g-launch-is-imminent
Wikipedia is more info if you search LTE about the technology.
I have an Evo and I really want the tunderbolt. If I can somehow "put" it on sprint can I still use 3g? Do they use the same bands is what I'm asking.
Yes, they do. I used to have a fully functioning Sprint touch pro operating on Verizons network. But good luck getting either carrier to activate the others phones. I know Verizon closed that loophole years ago.

As it was said, the MEID / ESN could theoretically (and illegally lol) be modified to emulate a separate device. The phones themselves have very similar hardware in the fact that they can operate on either network. The 3G chipset includes two bands -
the 800MHz 'Cellular Band' which is preferred by Verizon, and
the 1900MHz 'PCS Band' which is preferred by Sprint.
It operates as a standard switching band unit, as it will operate in hybrids between bands and protocols (2G/3G) as it scans for networks.
To fully adapt a device to a different network environment, extensive and thorough programming is required, along with good relationships with people on the 'inside,' or people who can get a foreign device activated on the new network. Another option would simply be to pay for a Verizon plan, but operate the phone itself on the Sprint network by flashing a divested PRL, which tells the phone to primarily use Sprint's backhaul, or network, to carry a Verizon customer's traffic - or even vice versa.
Unfortunately, though, the 4G experience will not longer be. The 4G bands on the devices differ at the hardware level, so there is no possibility of transferring the device for use with foreign 4G networks.
I just signed up with Straight Talk and activated my SIM card. Part of the reason I left T-Mobile is because I can only get Edge where I live. I have friends in the area, who's phones I've unlocked and setup for Straight Talk. They all get 4G on their phones but I can only get Edge. Before I wollow in my sorrow, will someone please tell me if they are able to get 4G, 3G or HSPA on their T-Mobile MyTouch4g?
Is your APN setup for straight talk and have you tried any other radios? I didn't have problems with hspa or 3G as long as everything was set up properly. Though hard to say without some details.

I can't remember properly, but I confused myself
I think I read that
- The Glacier doesn't support 4g
- The Glacier does support it but it either shows up as H+
But I don't know which one is right. I'm stupid lol.
Good questions. I forgot to mention that I have tried several suggested APNs as well as the official APN settings as described in the instructions that came with the SIM.
One thing that struck me last night while doing some research is that Straight Talk may use T-Mobile and/or ATT towers, depending on where a user is located. With T-Mobile, I was only able to get Edge. This is still the case. My friends' phones were generally ATT phones. Do you think my phone will only operate on the T-Mobile towers?
Nightmare, I haven't tried other radios. I was looking into that a little last night and wasn't sure if it would do any good or not. I'm really not sure what using different radios would do since I've never done any research on it. But I am glad you mentioned it because it makes me feel like I should look into it more.
"The Glacier doesn't support 4g" - I think you're right.
Also, it wouldn't matter if I got an ATT compatible SIM vs a T-Mobile compatible SIM, would it? My phone is unlocked.

Yeah I think the glacier only supports t-mo's bands. I'm not entirely sure of the exacts, but I know they've been posted before. It doesn't support true 4G but hspa+ is somewhat known as a sort of "almost" 4G. I never looked into it much because the device showing H instead of 4G never bothered me much, as long as the signal, etc. functioned properly.

If what I remember is correct, no. Its a matter of hardware/radio in that case. Sucks that its sort of just a luck of the draw with straight talks towers (if that's true), seems that it would make buying a device without knowing what towers are used in your area, beforehand, a pain in the ass.

tmo-nerd here
So I have a tmobile glacier. We get a really jazzed up 3g they play off as 4G and will show up as H+ next to your bars.
I'm not sure where exactly you live, but I just uploaded through adb fastboot Radio - 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19 from http://d-h.st/S9t
Be sure to download an MD5sum checker. Installing a radio is an easy process as long as you check the MD5sum, otherwise BRICK.
Here is the exact link if you want to try other radios. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115197
Please read this before all the flaming post are posted. I have read enough discussion on this board to know there is no chance of it. How Google locked everything down. How ever, we could maybe find a turning post with this message.
This was posted on Tmobile blog:
http://multimediacapsule.thomsonone.com/t-mobileusa/t-mobile-brings-voice-over-lte-to-seattle
Tmobile is turning on VoLTE in Seattle. I will try to explain this as best as I can since I work in the Industry and atm Tmobile. You can read further techs in the blog post. But simply, Tmobile is putting its Voice network on its LTE network.
As you know, our LTE devices, operate on all (US) GSM/CDMA/LTE Bands but voice calling we were always locked out of (because of Google). You can see if you are using a regular smartphone, if you place a call, your phone will swtich from LTE to 4G service. The current standard. But with Tmobile and ATT rolling VoLTE out, our phones will stay on LTE provided you are in the service area.
Inside these cabinets there used to be two devices that handled each technology, GSM and LTE. But i just started seeing Tmobile roll out a new devices that carries both of these technology in the same unit, providing this capability. I can tell you NYC and the Boroughs roll out is wwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy behind. We have completed 1500+ LTE upgrades around the city and i just started seeing the new device about 3 weeks ago. So i can tell you that Tmobile has alot of sites to go back and retrofit in order to make this work in NYC. ATT will be done in NYC before tmobile, because they are getting ready to upgrade their LTE network but they will install the newer device at the same time. ATT should be ready by years end. Tmobile, will probably turn it on by end of year as well but the service will be very scattered.
Now i wonder if some devs with deeper knowledge of these devices and programming could turn these devices into a phone. As of right now, only a developer in Seattle could work on this (For Tmobile). And where ATT has turned on this service. Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. So maybe there could be hope on the LTE devices. God speed developers.
I have read a lot already on this site about my issue just wanted to clear up a few unanswered questions.
I am looking to switch from Verizon to t-mobile because of prices and terrible reception where I'm living in Riverside Ca. So I know that I can simply put in a t-mobile sim and change to the correct gsm settings and get cell reception (correct me if I'm wrong) but what about getting LTE from t-mobile? I have looked to see if the new 700 mhz band covers here and Ventura County Ca. (where I am when I'm not in Riverside) and it does so I should get LTE without having to put in a custom Rom, correct?
I'm a novice when coming to roms (plus a failed attempt) so i would like to avoid them as much as I can. Will do it if I have to though... All about saving $$$$
Thanks for the replies.
@mjmjpfaff
I know what your saying about saving $$$ phones these days are almost the half of a old car/price of a motorcycle.
If your Verizon phone is not simlocked and also has support for the LTE bands which T-Mobile is using then it's possible to get LTE working without the need to buy another phone. If it's mentioned on internet on multiple sites that the G2 supports that LTE band then you can get it without a custom rom.
In my eyes it's possible to have working LTE from T-Mobile on your verizon phone, but to be 100% sure I would contact Verizon support about your question.
I also had many fail attempts with custom roms first but after you get how it works, you can flash anything as smooth as butter:good:
you could also wait for a VS980 G2 user who had the same issue as you but I think that it would take you more time awaiting for a reaction from somebody since not many people are browsing the Q&A section.

I found this on another thread:
"I just switched from a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 to the G2 since all I can get from it with t-mobile is H+ speeds (about 4mbs-6mbs). I inserted the t-mobile sim into the verizon g2 and it automatically switched to global mode and I then went in to edit the apn settings to fast.t-mobile.com. 4G LTE is working just fine on stock rom kitkat update (I'm in L.A. suburb). Speeds range from 15mbs to 30mbs+ depending on where I am in the city. Here are some screenshots"
This guy is pretty much in my area and sounds like he did not do anything other switch in a t-mobile sim...

I will DM him to get some more insight.
Thanks for your reply.
I'm using my droid mini on tmobile and am getting LTE speeds. You should see them if you're in an area where the network was refarmed to 1900mhz
Keep in mind the fastest speeds you will see is 21Mbps unless you swap for the Tmobile Verizon which goes up to 42Mbps and higher.

What area or state are you in if you don't mind me a asking?
Chicago area
Hi I too am using t-mobile on a VS980 and with CM11 and Cloudyg3, I am able to get LTE through their automated APN settings!
