Please read this before all the flaming post are posted. I have read enough discussion on this board to know there is no chance of it. How Google locked everything down. How ever, we could maybe find a turning post with this message.
This was posted on Tmobile blog:

Tmobile is turning on VoLTE in Seattle. I will try to explain this as best as I can since I work in the Industry and atm Tmobile. You can read further techs in the blog post. But simply, Tmobile is putting its Voice network on its LTE network.
As you know, our LTE devices, operate on all (US) GSM/CDMA/LTE Bands but voice calling we were always locked out of (because of Google). You can see if you are using a regular smartphone, if you place a call, your phone will swtich from LTE to 4G service. The current standard. But with Tmobile and ATT rolling VoLTE out, our phones will stay on LTE provided you are in the service area.
Inside these cabinets there used to be two devices that handled each technology, GSM and LTE. But i just started seeing Tmobile roll out a new devices that carries both of these technology in the same unit, providing this capability. I can tell you NYC and the Boroughs roll out is wwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy behind. We have completed 1500+ LTE upgrades around the city and i just started seeing the new device about 3 weeks ago. So i can tell you that Tmobile has alot of sites to go back and retrofit in order to make this work in NYC. ATT will be done in NYC before tmobile, because they are getting ready to upgrade their LTE network but they will install the newer device at the same time. ATT should be ready by years end. Tmobile, will probably turn it on by end of year as well but the service will be very scattered.
Now i wonder if some devs with deeper knowledge of these devices and programming could turn these devices into a phone. As of right now, only a developer in Seattle could work on this (For Tmobile). And where ATT has turned on this service. Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. So maybe there could be hope on the LTE devices. God speed developers.

I got a HD2, replacing a Hero last month and am VERY excited about the Evo.
I can't seem to find a mention of Australia anywhere, I saw that the UK was apparently missing out as they don't have a 4G network but Vivid Wireless has just been launched in Perth here in Australia running a 4G Network and is currently on its way to coming online in other major cities.
So what do you think?
Will the Evo be coming to Australia?
I will end up importing one if it doesn't but I'd rather not have the Sprint branding (I'm that much of a purist)
if u import it how are u gonna use it? coz i thought it doesnt use sim card (correct me if im wrong)
But i really do hope this phone comes to australia
Not likely.
The EVO runs on the 4g network at Sprint. Perth is the only city that has a 4g network AFAIK (vividwireless.com.au), but its not linked to a cellular network in any way so a phone on this service would be unable to make phonecalls...
It does still have EVDO but that's slow and makes the phone pointless to release among Australia's market.
I dont know about the EVO using SIM cards but I was under the impression that it can function on 3G as well as 4G
The Evo, as a CDMA device released for Sprint, will not use a SIM card. But yes, the device will be able to function on both 4G and 3G. It will search for a WiMAX (4G) connection, and if it cannot connect, it will then search for a EVDO (3G) connection.
I have a feeling they will have a SIM card for the phone. Otherwise it wouldn't make for a great world phone Verizon has SIM slots in some of their phones in order to be a world phone on GSM networks.
I think the same will apply here. Knowing HTC they will follow up with a phone that will be equivalent in a next HD3/HD4 release for 850/900 networks.
They are truly moving the whole phone market at the moment. They are the phone company to beat in regards to style and innovation.
I do like the Samsung Galaxy S as well. But I have become attached to the Sense UI and that is one of the main reasons I do not want to get the Nexus One for AT&T. I will pay a little more to get the one from Telstra is AT&T doesn't release any news of a better android phone by April 27th.
I am due for an upgrade or I will move to Sprint for the EV0 4G which I think I will get anyways.
I have the Tmobile HD2 and the lock ups pisses me off even with several of the other ROM's I have flashed.
Oh well can't have everything. I might return the phone. I have a few more days.
this phone will not work in Australia. it is not a world phone and was developed for Sprint to steal business from other US carriers. there is no SIM card and if the 4g in Perth is LTE instead of WiMax, data won't work there either. EVDO isn't compatible in any way with GSM. Most likely, this phone won't be able to be flashed to work on another CDMA company here in the USA. Sorry, I know GSM is a world standard, but Sprint here provides the best service/price without a doubt and average speeds are better than GSM here because of how the GSM companies spread out their towers compared to the EVDO companies. this is an amazing break for us on Sprint since our phones generally SUCK. Even the Pre which debued on Sprint turned out to be a flop because Sprint had no standards for software or hardware and the first phones released fell apart by just looking at them the wrong way. at least this time, the phone is based off another phone (hd2) but better and running Android.

It's a shame that it uses the CDMA network instead of GSM. This is the only credible challenge to iPhone so far. I'm dying to see it coming to Australia. My only concern is still the accuracy of the touch screen. Hope that HTC has sorted this out by now.
Yeah it's a real shame this isn't a world phone. It packs a royal punch.
The Desire isn't too bad a competitor to the iPhone though. Why not consider that?
I'm a Cellular South user who's reallllly lusting after the Epic 4G -- sadly it looks like it's going to be the only Galaxy S slider released. Once the phone is released and rooted, would it be possible for the phone to work on non-Sprint carriers? I've currently got a HTC Hero, and I know for the longest time our ROMs were based off of the Sprint RUU.
Just curious if this is plausible, very likely, or not a chance in hell.
Thanks,
DrHogie
Sure it will be possible just like the Hero was. 4G won't be possible, but the phone will be able to at least make calls until you figure out any of the other stuff needed for data and market.
How compatible do you think this phone would be with MetroPCS? Also, I heard that LTE could be added with a firmware update on this phone, or at least phones like it. Is that true? If so, do you think it might work on other future 4G networks, like that of Verizon or Metro? Sorry for all the potentially silly questions, I've never shopped for a CDMA phone before.
LTE uses a SIM card I believe so without the hardware built into the pone, you couldn't use it on that kind of network.
I read a blog with an interview of a Sprint higher up saying that they could potentially change the technology of 4g quickly and cheaply in places that currently have 4g. However, I don't know if that means another set of GSM 3G vs CDMA 3G like we have now. Maybe it would be a CDMA LTE that doesn't use a SIM?
Hopefully they just leave well enough alone. I know the technology will be different at Verizon (LTE) and T-MO(HSPA+), but differences usually foster growth for the best to keep up. I guess that would also eliminate a roaming data possiblity.
Who knows...lots of questions.
LTE isn't CDMZA based, it is its own beast.
This is where I read about the SIM card http://gizmodo.com/5590530/leaked-documents-and-lte-sim-show-verizon-4g-launch-is-imminent
Wikipedia is more info if you search LTE about the technology.
Do you think hd2 owners who have at&t will get to use tmobiles wavelength and finally get more than edge network from this happening??
For reference if new to this subject at&t and tmobile both have an EDGE network on the same wavelength so on an unlocked tmobile hd2 one can use the slow 2g internet connection of at&t, but the 3g networks run off of different bands so an at&t # can't connect to any 3g whatsoever, with at&t's purchase of tmobile wouldn't at&t have to utilize tmobiles 3g wavelength in order to still provide 3g and 3.5g to everyone with tmobile phones that aren't compatible with at&t's current network? If so then I'm personally benefitting from this and finally getting a decent mobile data speed on my tmobile phone with my at&t network
Please don't bash at&t here, I know they suck, I've used their service for quite some time now, I'm just looking for opinions and facts on this matter
and I know euro hd2's already pick up at&t 3g, I'm talking about tmous hardware
From what I have read it seems that in a year or so if this deal is accepted by the FCC at&t will reuse and refit tmobiles network towers/equipment to use there 4g LTE network and give it a boost while removing T-Mobile service altogether causing us T-Mobile 3g/4g users to get new phones that work on AT&T's data network so in your case I highly doubt it there really isn't a benefit for AT&T or T-mobile other then T-Mobile users will be able to have different range of phones (mostly iPhone) I really hope the FCC denies this deal not only does it kills another service provider option limiting us to 3 major companies and forces people escaping the high price of service from sprint, Verizon, and At&t (I've been on them all and left because of price and QOS) but also makes AT&T top dog just because they bought out another company
Yea I read about this yesterday. Highly pissed off. I can't stand at&t. Crappy phone signal, high prices, and crappy customer service. I hope this deal does not go through. Just like when sprint was supposed to buy tmobile. Hopefully it's just a rumor.

Actually I have read that its the exact opposite......AT&T has planned to upgrade all of Tmobiles service towers to the 4G LTE, leaving all T-Mobile Branded 3g phones unable to access

yeah, about 5 minutes after i posted this i saw the article stating that at&t is decommissioning tmobile's 3/3.5g towers to use them for their LTE, too bad at&t is already selling "4g" phones (ie the atrix and the inspire 4g) with no capability of utilizing TRUE 4g via LTE later on... anyone else think at&t will re-release said phones as LTE devices for $50 more than the hspa versions? i cant wait to switch to verizon personally, but im waiting for a htc pyramid compatible with verizons 4g network to switch
I received a letter from tmobile if I wanted to attend a meeting/conference for San Jose, Ca becuase my current phone service will be upgraded.... not removed....
Is this confirmed yet? If so, I am going to be HIGHLY pissed off. I HATE AT&T with a passion and refuse to use their service.
Is it possible to unlock my HD2 and my fiancee's Galaxy S Vibrant to use on Sprint or Verizon?

No, only for gsm networks, which is now going through an approval process to become a single gsm network, not confirmed until the fcc gives the word though so keep your fingers crossed!

No Tmobile and AT&T use sim cards and use totally different frequencies
If the deal passes I highly doubt that the T-mobile name will continue for long. Especially since both carriers operate on the voicestream network. This will combine T-mobile's few towers with ATT's many towers. But as someone mentioned earlier niether of these two have real 4G. It ticks me off when I see comercials calling it 4G. Only verizon is rolling out true 4G in LTE.
And in case you haven't heard. T-mobile was going down hill. They were losing money. There were talks of Sprint buying them at first. So it may be a good thing with ATT buying them up.
MOD EDIT: Any questions regarding the merge should be directed in the original discussion thread ~TheRomMistress
This thread is about one and only question. The whole reason for my question is that my wife has a full upgrade at the end of this month and I want to be the damn 4G mhz band is going to last...
What will happen to our 4G band during this merger?
Please links to anything, ill also be trolling for anything I can find and posting it here.

in the next year we will see if T-Mobile gets acquired.
AT&T's plan for T-Mobile is to take their towers and spectrum and use them to reinforce their 3G and then roll out HSPA+ and LTE.
When they finally flip the switch, your G2 won't work anymore theoretically because it only works for 3G on 1700/2100, which AT&T does not. They will more than likely have backwards compatibility for quite a while before they shut down the ability for 1700/2100 3G T-Mobile phones to access their network. At that time when they choose to stop using 1700/2100 for 3G I'm sure that there will be a transition plan for them to move users from their old T-Mobile phones to new AT&T phones.
I think by the time AT&T finally switches to drop all of 1700/2100 3G support for T-mobile, the G2 will be quite old news. We're talking a year before the acquisition even becomes final, and then they have to start in with their transition plan. We're looking at a long way off before this is happening.
NEW YORK -- AT&T Inc. said Monday that if its deal to buy T-Mobile USA goes through, T-Mobile subscribers with "3G" phones will need to replace those to keep their wireless broadband service working. But there will be plenty of time to do that.
Dallas-based AT&T said Sunday it had agreed to buy T-Mobile USA for $39 billion. If approved by regulators, the deal would close in about a year.
AT&T said that some time after the closing, it plans to rearrange how T-Mobile's cell towers work. The airwaves they use for third-generation services, or 3G, will be repurposed for 4G, which is faster.
That would leave current T-Mobile phones without 3G. They would need to be replaced with phones that use AT&T's 3G frequencies. Ralph de la Vega, AT&T's head of wireless and consumer services, said this will happen as part of the normal phone upgrade process.

pretty much our phones wont work and they will offer us phones that do work so they can avoid grandfathering our current plans

Note that this suggests 1700/2100 LTE.
I realize that the g2 will be old news but that doesn't mean for that when I purchase a 4g phone this month for my wife I don't want the 4g to work in 12 months...

I have been finding a lot of mixed reviews on this phone.
My SO is looking for a reasonably priced phone and plan, to replace her qwerty text phone. She is currently on the Verizon network, and gets decent coverage for phone use and text. Data is basically a non-necessity.
From what I looked up on the Samsung website, this phone doesn't appear to use the Verizon network, yet Walmart/straight-talk seems to list it as being a Verizon phone.
It just doesn't seem to add up, based on the frequencies I show listed in the specs.
I've done a lot of googling, and found mixed answers from people via the phone, but can't get a definitive answer on the coverage.
Would someone be so kind as to let me know if this is truly on the Verizon network, while under the Straight Talk plan, and has the same coverage for calls and texts as a standard Verizon phone would have?

These are the bands the S975L uses:
LTE: Bands 13; CDMA 1x/EVDO Rev.A: 800/1900MHz
As you can see on this page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S4#Model_variants
The Verizon network makes use of the same bands. So yes it should work.
Just my 2 cents......
Hello,
I have this phone you speak of. I purchased it directly from the Straight Talk website. It arrived using the AT&T network. I'm located in Central California near Fresno. I'm new to cell phones and the networks/protocols they use so please excuse my inability to provide more indepth information. Hopefully this "2 cents" will provide atleast a little help..
