Hello!
I bought a EP online, but the power button its damaged,it press it self. I managed to root the device and deactivate the press power option by putting a # before the number of the key.
That worked now the phone is not pressing the key multiple times(it does but the action its null)
The problem its that the continuos Hold of the power key its making the phone to be rebooted, even after the power key its "DEACTIVATED" Is there any name for the action of reset that i can deactivate by doing the # thing?
please help!! this is driven me crazy..

if you blocked the long press also how would you turn it back on?
It sounds like the button might be highly sensitive so if you could protect it from the slightest pressure it might stop turning off, try modifying a thick heavy duty case like this one (eg remove button on case so phone button is recessed)

some old Samsung phones had power button problems, some people were able to fix by banging phone on table. The ph1 buttons are all on a single strip subassembly, so might not work like old Samsungs & they would have a seal also. But banging the edge on a table you'd have to be very careful if you tried that with this phone as glass & ceramic right up to the edge, so could easily crack screen, they are about USD70, and probably not easy to remove, judging from the iFixit video, though fixez got it off without delamination.
But your best bet is probably a repair shop.
I've done key remapping on samsung, maybe here is same.
There is generic.kl file and you can remap there any key.
Don't forget to set same permissions back.

So, the power button on my 8525 popped off; while I can get at it with the stylus, that's a pain in the arse for normal operation.
Any way to map another button (such as, say, "PTT") to assume the functionality of the power button? Or any other similar work-arounds?
With a broken power button, is there any way I can get my xda2 into bootloader mode so I can change the ROM?
i doubt it unless you take it apart and shortcurcit the to points that the powerbutton is connected to
would prob be easier to put in a new button then i guess
I may be wrong but doesn't the power button actually put the phone into suspend mode?
Would it work to map the "suspend" function to another button (like the calendar button)? Or does a hard reset only work with the usual specific hardware buttons?
no it's not the only function
clicking on a suspece software shortcut
while reseting the device dont result in a hardreset
I have a solution. i have the same problem. Get a paperclip, and insert it into the hole where the power button should be. Slide it in until your device turns on/off. Then hold it there carefully, and press and hold the ACTIOn key and the reset button.
Works for me!
I looked for similar topic but couldn't find it,I can't use power button on my hd anymore,it got broken beacuse of pressing it very often during day to turn the screen on and off...I was wondering if there is an application to assign power button function to home key so when pressing it the screen turns off and on?
Hi, having the same problem, POWER BUTTON is defect/broken, it doesn't have a resistance when I push it in. I can still switch the device on and off, but I have to press the power button hard and the power button does not feel spring loaded any more.
Are there more people having this issue and is there anybody haveing it send for warranty repair already?
Mine is a German O2 device.
Thanks

I just bought a used hd2 yesterday, and it came with magldr with ultimate droid rom 3.3. I found out that none of the physical button acts as a Menu and Back button which makes navigation and menu access very hard. I even changed roms but still same thingn
My question is, is hd2 don't map physical keys as menu and back? Or is my unit actually defective? All the buttons work though, only that the Window and Home button does the same thing while Back and End button turns off the screen.
Thanks in advance!
Update: I have manage to get the menu (window) button working, but the back button is more trickier.. it seems thatt the physical button is actually pressing other keys.. in this case when I pressed the Window button for menu.. it will actually press the Home button which will bring me back to home screen. And for the back button, its actually pressing the End button, although I did manage to get it to press its back button, but its quite difficult. Does anyone knows how to fix this?
reply back button
I think that u may have a faulty back button or that dirt got under it thefe are guides on here xda that show u how to fix back button etc but it requires you taking phone apart and you need to read guides totally and follow steps there are also guides on youtube as well. It also sounds that the buttons might have been remapped there is an app called button remapper that allows you to change what the physical buttons do like the phone button back button etc do in other words you can change what every physical button on your hd2 does like for example the volume keys you would be able to change to back button etc. Read about button remapper on google before attempting to use app hope this helps you.
That's a common issue in the HD2, probably your device is defective.
Don't bother with the warranty, replacement and all that stuff since the back and menu aren't required for flashing or entering bootloader mode.
Just download "zMooth" app from market. (Pro version will give you End & Search)
I would prefer fixing the physical keys as they are important functions that is required in order to navigate around. Any links to how to fix the buttons? I think they are just misaligned because of prolong usage. Because multiple tries proves that it can still work.
Update: I have seen the official tutorial video for disassmbling the HD2, to just replace the keypad flex ribbon requires one to go very deep inside the phone before you can actually access the flex ribbon for the keypad. Now i am thinking twice to repair the physical button, let alone give an unofficial service guy to replace it.
@Marvlesz
I have installed zMooth, nice app.. but take some time getting used to. thanks!
or you can try a cm7 rom and use the tablet tweak soft keys in the options.
u can use button savior to replace all buttons .. it's a must have for me ..
Does anyone know if physical button problem such as mine are caused by the wear and tear of the flex cable or is it because of the plastic buttons itself?
I know we still need to press the power button But is it possible to have a soft button for power down/ reb00t instead of pressing the Physical button for a few seconds?
it could help to prolong the Power Key which is might also be the problem for those non responsive screens :silly:
Terminal Emulator.
type "su", then "reboot" for reboot. Want a shutdown? Reboot, but take the battery out after it reboots.

On WM6.5.x I have used utask almost since I got the device brand new & used the extra soft button for power off & shutdown thus hardly ever used endkey button & power up from standby was normally windows key for me as that was best key for my handling of device.
Also my device has had light use & physically gentle use too but still the display issue has occurred.
Having spoken to our device supplier (we have over 20 HD2's) his opinion is even without use the ribbon cable to digi bonding breaks down as he seen same issue on never used old stock after a few days or a months use ...
Hardware quality of the HD2 is a long way from what HTC use to be ...
Poor digi, Mainboard BGA soldering/thermal control & speaker issues are way too common ...
there exists a touch-based solution for android also...i forget the exact name but it was widely distributed with gingerbread android builds in the time period when devs had not yet figured out the hd2 key mapping to bring up the power menu more than once with the end call key.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using xda app-developers app
Download Quickboot (reboot) app from play store and put it on your home screen. It brings up a power menu for re-boot, power off, recovery etc.
Also try screen lock and off app. It turns off the screen. To turn the screen back on, use any of the hard buttons.
I use both these to save using the hard buttons.
^ hey it actually works, tnx :good:
