And it's looking like the RAM management really is better for us too. I'm able to swap through 9 apps give or take without any of them reloading. Definitely couldn't do that before. It only took the release of the Pixel 3 to get them to fix it.

I won't update since I'm about to receive another Pixel 2 XL (the old one is breaking).
Is it ok to update on the new one and then factory reset rather than installing with adb?

Absolutely it is. Let it update via OTA, then factory reset, then unlock the bootloader. If those were your intentions

I dont know if it is the problem with my phone or with the wall charger ... My pixel 2 xl no longer charge with fast charging ... It does not charge at all
My wall charger is a delipoo with power delivery 2.0 and since the update my phone does not charge at all , i have to use a regular charger

I noticed that too. It turns dark mode to always on in developer settings. Something tells me that's intended tho because it only makes pulling the notification bar down dark when you get notifications. So it makes that dark to for when you get texts. When you change back to light theme, it all changes back. I use light theme during the day and switch to dark in the early evening. And it all ties together nicely for me.
kernel-version is at 4.4.116 , build on october 11th. Is this correct?
Anyone notice an actual difference with that faster camera capture?

Nopes. Camera isn't really updated to be honest. Just placebo.

Clear storage of Google Services Framework and Google Play Services. Restart and the update should drop right away. I sideload the ota but my wife is struggling to get the updates since September... This method works for her phone, after the restart the update immediately start downloading. She's with Vodafone UK though.

Pretty sure this is a bug. If you turn dark mode ON and open the contacts app dark mode stays ON. If you open Messages app dark mode gets turned OFF. This break the AA experience. For example, my AA will turn ON dark mode at night but as soon as I receive a text message it disables it causing unwanted brightness in my car.
Got the update on my phone too, but I also switched to another Pixel 2 XL since old one wouldn't charge fast.
Feels definitely snappier. Maybe the update from Oreo to Pie messed up something and I didn't realize, because it was fast anyway.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if upgrading worth it. Also my girlfriend wants to buy a pixel and we were waiting on the 3 to see the changes, however for what I've seen I don't think worth the upgrade or buying the pixel 3, pixel 2 still performs perfectly.
My question is, all those feature pixel 3 will have since it's software wise we will have it also in our pixel 2 right ? That smart call, top shot and night mode ?
Also that notch... Ewks...
Anyone have any opinion why I should upgrade to pixel 3 and give this 2xl to my girlfriend or should I just keep it and buy her a pixel 2 instead and keep the money ?
Cheers
I assume the features are all coming to 2/2XL as well. And the notch is a huge deal breaker for me...
I'll skip all notch phones and wait for notch free flagship... maybe in 3 years??? :"P
Depends on disposable income. You got the bucks get the 3. Give your gal the 2 she'll love it.
That's what I'm doing with the Mrs. If you're strapped for cash keep yours and get her a Pixel 2. Can't go wrong either way.

Nope.
https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-3-google-pixel-3-xl-minor-features/
read down to this:
Pixel Visual Core Changes
Next, a Product Manager confirmed to us that the Pixel Visual Core has indeed been updated. Until the device’s kernel source code is released, we won’t know exactly what new functions have been added to the HAL. However, we’re told that the Pixel Visual Core is now actually used by the Google Camera app for Google Lens suggestions, HDR+, Top Shot, Motion Auto Focus, and Photobooth. That’s most likely why the older Pixels will get support for Night Sight and Playground but won’t get support for Top Shot, Motion Auto Focus, or Photobooth – they don’t have the newer Pixel Visual Core.

Anyone know if the pixel 3 USB port is still incapable of video out?

No Pixel 3 XL minor spec's for me. Be staying with the Pixel 2 XL which has plenty of updates left in it!
I grabbed the 3. It's essentially a more ergonomic Pixel 2 XL with a better screen, better front camera(s), wireless charging, IP68, better speakers, and another year of support.
OG Pixel to Pixel 2 XL was worth it to me but the Pixel 2 XL to Pixel 3 XL not so much
Staying with 2 XL
I'm really tempted to get the 3XL because it's BOGO at verizion but I'm resisting the temptation . I like the better screen and sound but the 2XL is still a good phone and don't really see a big jump in performance. Plus "some" of the new features will come to the 2XL so I think I'll hold off until next year when it's more of a upgrade.
I'm not buying another pixel if they stick to such a huge notch. "Designed by Google" - yeah, no ****. It'll be exact same phone in terms of looks as I'll hide that notch anyway. So a little better screen, speakers, camera ... Wireless charging I don't use anyway, never use it for deep water diving anyway ... Useless.

Useless to you. It's all subjective. Try out the OnePlus 6T.
I ordered the 3 XL cuz I just at like changing phones every year. But I also have a 2 xl and snapped out of zombie mode and cancelled my order. The 2 camera is still amazing. This phone is fast as hell. I like root even if it's not too needed these days. It just didn't seem like an upgrade worth $1000 for.
Oh yeah....and I HATE gesture navigation.
I don't really see the 'upgrades' with the Pixel 3. All the features announced are pretty much coming the the Pixel 2 and the notch is a real disadvantage, so why bother?
Sticking with my Pixel 2XL for couple of years, still functions flawlessly. Let's see what the Pixel 4 holds...
What "should" have been the Pixel 3xl... will be the Oneplus 6T!
I will not upgrade, I don't see the updates as worth the money. And in general I feel that the pixel phones are overpriced compared to the competition...
I ordered the 3 xl. Since I've been paying more than needed on my payments for my 2 xl, the 3 xl with the stand will be pretty much the same payment. Got it for the better cameras as I use mine a lot, also the wireless charging, and the better screen. I checked one out in a Verizon store, and the notch does NOT look as bad in person either. Though, if any devs make it so you can partially hide it instead of fully, I'll be all over that.
Probably will upgrade but truth is the pixel 3 is a very weak effort by Google. I should probably just call it a lazy attempt. I know some tech YouTubers have been saying that the effort is in the software but at least apple actually did a proper upgrade to their internals and software, not a half baked one .
I'll use it for a week and see how I feel about it.

I see the Pixel 3 an "s" year for the Pixel but better than what Apple's done. Things the Pixel 3 has that the Pixel 2 doesn't have or won't get:
Better processor, screen, speakers, wireless charging, wide angle lens for the front, photobooth, top shot, super res zoom, motion auto focus, lens suggestions for Google Lens, and Titan M security chip.
That's a bigger difference than the iPhone X and the iPhone XS.
That being said, I don't think any phone is worth getting for a yearly update. Getting the latest and greatest on a yearly basis just makes everything incremental and less significant of an upgrade. And going from one 2018 to another 2018 is just a lateral move which is even a bigger waste.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Have you seen the XS? It's amazing. Feels better, looks better, runs better. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. Battery life optimized to where you will drool. I'm not going there but..
Edit.. it's getting close. I'm not rooting these days there are no roms to speak of the. Wear OS is sketchy vs I watch or whatever they call it. Talk me down. I shouldn't have gone into the store and compared. The notch in the iPhone actually looks good. WTF? That being said I'll probably get the pixel 3 on BF. Probably..
Hi I'm looking to change my pixel 2 xl cause of performance issues alot of lag and delay
I was thinking of Mate Pro 20 but I changed my mind after reading honest review on XDA-Developers
Is it better choice to get one plus 6t instead
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I got a 2xl and waiting for my 6t, which will be delivered tomorrow. Considered the pixel 3 but it's just a rerocked 2
I'm coming from a pixel 2xl. I was looking for something new because i started to feel apps were closing out too fast and reloading too often.
I started adding more apps. Mostly security camera and home automation apps. I wanted to see if having more RAM would help. I didn't even have any interest in the pixel 3 since they didn't upgrade the RAM
So far I've been pleased. Apps stay open longer but it seems it takes awhile for the phone to know which apps you use the most.
Battery life has been noticeably better but not by much
In screen fingerprint scanner isn't as fast as the pixel but the face unlock on the op6t is blazing.
I miss AOD and I'm surprised how often i use the squeeze for Google Assistant.
OnePlus gestures blows away both of Android navigation options. I'm happy to have the extra screen space.
Surprised how well the OnePlus screen compares to the pixel. There are more color options to adjust for your liking and the OnePlus seems to get a tad brighter. The pixel looks sharper on higher res content but barely and only if you stare.
OnePlus camera is okay. I'm not a huge picture person so the OnePlus is passable for me.
Pixel feels lighter and is easier to hold. Less fingerprints because of the material on the back of the pixel.
Right now I've factory reset the pixel to see if i can recover the performance. I bet it will be smooth again.
Hope this helps

Coming from the pixel 2xl. The 3xls notch is disgusting compared with the price of the 3xl brining not a whole lot of new things make the 3xl a definite pass. It's unfortunate that this was the fastest phone I've ever had but in a year I've reset it 4 times due to extreme lagging and slowdown recently. Battery life dropped by almost half as well. The only redeeming quality is the camera but I am willing to give that up for the time being.

Yes. It's just a repost of the one from the 6 subforum.
Functionality is the same on the 6. Same things work, and same things don't work.
We can only use the 6.1 mods. Older 5.x versions won't connect to the camera on our phones.
Currently my rooted 6T has been playing backup to my un-rooted T-Mobile Note 9 (on Oreo) but I keep feeling tempted to go back to the 6T as my daily. Then after a couple of weeks I start to miss the Note 9. I use a Bamboo Tip on the 6T so the S-Pen envy stays at a minimum when using the 6T but then small things like Samsug's calendar app (that I can't get to work on the 6T), the Note 9's brighter display at its halfway brightness setting, WIRELESS CHARGING and the purpose-built stereo speakers (although the 6T's single speaker is quite loud).
Those are just things I'm actually struggling to define but when I'm one device I'm missing the other and visa versa. Is anyone else crazy like me with this topic? Maybe I just have commitment issues. Shut up! You're not my ex wife! Jokes aside, I keep switching back and forth between my 6T and Note 9. Is anyone else doing this with other devices? How do you deal with the itch to keep swapping phones? Thanks for sharing!
I switch almost weekly to my Pixel 3 XL. There are things I like about both phones.
Well I made a complete switch today from the note 9 running pie to the 6t yeah I miss the brighter screen and the screen being a bit bigger horizontally but that is about it, I love how has this thing is a bit faster than my pixel 2 xl running pie.
Let see how the battery holds
Ok...maybe I'm worse and a bit of an idiot but....I'm currently paying on and dont laugh when I say this but s8+,x2 lg g6(one for the wife),s7 edge, note 8 and one plus 6t
right now the note 8 one ui pie beta
and one plus 6t is what I'm going back and forth with
but I'm currently running note 8 as the whole system is dark mode out without customization apps but then I'll start to think about my oneplus which is by far the most stable phone without lag i have ever used so yeah it's a toss up
I'm the same I have a S9 and the 6T that I switch between I mostly use the 6T but about once a month I switch to the S9 for a couple of days then back to the 6T. My biggest issue with the S9 is it seems small to me because I have big hands and the 6T feels just right. I like the S9 features but like I said the size bothers me which I should have gotten the S9+ which would have fit my hands better and maybe I would stay with that one since I like the S9 features.
No AOD means no OP6t for me (I'd have one otherwise£ but I do switch between note 9, 3 XL and xs max. I hate it but I guess that means not one of them tick all the boxes.
Xs max to use the apple watch
3 XL for camera and vanilla android zippyness
Note for all round and extra storage (over pixel)
Or maybe I just need help!

I have and on McLaren model stock, and they do have a magisk module for it on the regular 6t
I use the 6T then switch back to my iPhone 6s when the 6T does something that irks me. Today I pulled the SIM because I get sick of my cheek selecting the drop down and clicking icons. The proximity sensor works fine when I test it but for some reason my cheek will do crazy stuff. Time before last my cheek dragged the notification shade down and selected airplane mode and disconnected me from my call.
This silly stuff just does not happen on my iPhone.
Why not just root and switch roms? That's what I do when I get bored of the phone
I hop between my 6T modded and my S9+ Modded. Why? Front mounted stereo speakers are so much better for gaming. Performance is identical and sadly, even without root on my S9+, I've achieved nearly the same amount of necessary customization. I came back to OnePlus for the freedom and dev-friendliness but that seems to not be a thing anymore.
Well I'm just glad I'm not the only one, and here I was thinking I had a real problem, almost started drinking full time to cope. I have the note 8 and 6t. I got the 6t day one from tmo, one of 2 in the area from what I was told and have used it for a total of about 1 month. I use my note 8 for work as there is no better work phone and on the weekends I was using the 6t until I wanted to use it longer so start using it after work on the way home while driving but needed more of it so in the morning to work as well. After a week I said I wanted to save the battery and could just use the note as it does everything, so back in the box went the 6t for about another week or 2. Then I told myself I was just going to use it for Christmas for pictures and then put it away until my birthday in April. Well I ended up using both for pictures for about 2 weeks until I rooted the 6t with McLaren edition. Did that for about another 2 weeks and went back to the stock rom while still placing it back and forth in the box for a day or 2. Keep in mind I'm starting to think I'm going crazy and I really mean it. I had a 6s plus in the mix but sold it on Christmas and I thought that would help, it didn't. It's now been 2 weeks and I just today, I swear to all of you, I have been using the note 8 for the past 2 weeks and this morning i placed my 6t in my backpack thinking I would use it for the ride home but have yet to turn it on because I really want to make it until my Birthday. I'm so glad I'm not the only one like this, I really mean it. Thank you for this post.

Kills battery I think though. Samsung, Google and LG have shown that a native AOD can work without too big a battery hit, LG even managed it on an LCD!

I swap between the one plus 6t and the Razer phone 2. Used to swap between OnePlus 6t and pixel XL 2 but found someone who wanted to trade my pixel xl 2 for the newest Razer phone and I couldn't pass up that $400 savings deal as I paid $300 for my pixel XL 2 and the Razer phone 2 retails at $699. Love having a fast flagship in OnePlus 6t and a media/gaming giant in the Razer phone 2 with 8 Gb Ram and a 120 hz refresh rate!

yeah , me , i use oneplus 6t one day iphone xs max one day , i like the speakers from iphone ,
if i got a service day i will pick up oneplus 6t because i do tweaks install apps from black market and hacks ,
if a got a heavy day i will get the iphone xs max ,is the just do it phone for me ,
love the apple pay and speakers and the display, the brightness for my iphone stays at 30 procent,
with oneplus 6t i need to boost the brightness up to 75-80 procent to be easy redable and no , is not because the screen protector
is just the way oneplus tweaked ,
also what i like is how easy to use is the device , the fact that i got the flashlight in the lockscreen for iphone and
the first page on the left on iphone is imposible to reproduct on another devices
for me the first pick is iPhone XS max and 2nd pick is oneplus 6t
I can controll everything with my iphone xs LIFX light bulbs ,sockets on off ,and all of them they are there on first page
if you try to add the widget on oneplus first page witch they name it shelf ,they don't fit they are oversize or
the shelf did not show all the info , so for me android is not so polished seems to be unfinished , is not made to be compatible
thanks for reading and sorry for so much explanation

Looks the same as Samsung aod. That's why I called it as such
I'm on the fence about coming back to samsung. I'm so used to being rooted and doing what i want but i hear now you can do most of that now without root. Main thing is blocking ads throughout the ecosystem and blocking apps from accessing the internet.
Will i gain more than i loose upgrading to the S10 plus?
Come back just for the OneUI .
It's a game changer.
Thank you Samsung.
Not that informative but thx?
I came from a 3XL and I went back to the 3XL. The hardware is great (except the fingerprint sensor, it stinks), but the software just doesn't work for me. Every time I give the S10+ another try I'm just annoyed with it. The Pixel experience is just better for me. My S10+ has been relegated to backup phone status.
disappointed, stay with the 2XL. battery life worse, smoothness of the software are worse. pixel experience is the best.
Sorry for kicking this topic but I'm curious about your experiences.
I have been using a Pixel 2 XL for 1,5 years now (and Nexus 6P, 5X, 5 before) and moved to a S10 3 weeks ago. I honestly don't know for sure whether I am going to stick with the S10 or not. It has it's advantages; especially the wide angle camera is one, but also memory management is much better. I never did a factory reset on my Pixel 2 XL though and went from Android 8 > 8.1 > 9 > 10 so that might be better after a reset.
I have tested several apps and actions but they are equal in terms of speed. The volume rocker of the S10 is located so annoyingly high it irritates me nearly every day and it is also on the incorrect side. I am used to the fingerprint scanner in the display and don't think it is better or worse. I tested the S10 one next to the one of the 2XL and the display of the S10 usually wakes up quicker. Battery life is comparable (I think) and of course the S10 is smaller, which is also an advantage. But the main camera is worse (especially sharpening and noise reduction are way, way too agressive) and some of the apps you can't change. I am using an Exynos version, but I don't think that will make much of a difference. Oh and why the hell are there so many holes in this thing at the bottom?
Anyone who made the same step from a Pixel 2 XL > S10 who'd like to share their experience?
I went from 2xl to Xperia 1 to S10. I loved my 2xl and I also liked the Sony but bought S10 for two reasons. Dual SIM which I need for work and size. I simply don't get why the phones have to be absolutely huge these days, S10 has a perfect size for me. I love stock android so had to make few adjustments to the UI but that's not a big issue. Camera is comparable to 2xl although not had much time to play with it yet. Battery life sucks at the moment but again, still early days, hopefully it'll get better.

To me it's just, Pixel 4 or Pixel 5/6. I don't have any other replacement for my Pixel 2.
Though I'm starting to consider moving into a custom rom. I'm a bit tired of Google adding so many services to Android. I don't want that much AI in my life. I love 50% of the features they have (like At Glance, Google Feed), but I don't use the other 50%.
In every Android version if they saved like 5% battery life, they added new services that consume 6% of it. So they never truly improved in that area. But now they will have to, because they need to maintain Pixel 4 working fine for at least 3 years.
IPhone 11 pro.. After 8 years of Android...
The Pixel 4 is awesome. My battery last all day. The Radar is pretty sick ! I feel like many of the reviews are extremely bias. Squeeze works extremely well. All around its a dope phone. I feel like Google did extremely well and the poor reviews are mostly nonsense. To speak to the small battery it doesn't really matter. I feel like Google is trying to actually solve battery problems as opportunity to grow and not just slapping big battery's in a phone. It's also half smart to release Solo on a device to the XDA community. Let's be real here most of the software innovations in Android happened right here with Cyanogen XDA and a hand full of Devs that the blathering reviewers look at as features that did not exist let alone main stream before XDA before Android. Face unlock works in the dark, in the ****ing dark.
To late already got a pixel 4 and love it.

Same, Pixel 4 Oh So Orange
I'm waiting till Black Friday to see about giving my wife my Pixel 3a XL and getting a new phone. It will likely be a Pixel 4 XL (if the sales are just stupid crazy) or a Pixel 3 XL. If neither of those are compelling enough, she'll likely just get a Pixel 3a and I'll keep the 3a XL.
So I'll definitely be getting another Pixel phone, it's just depends on which one offers the best deal.
I have a PIxel 4 and it is GREAT. Is there any purpose to this thread?
i got the pixel 4 for free but if it cant fix the battery life for me im going to be using my pixel 3xl for sure and give this to a family member or something. i usually always have the XL line but my 2xl is still running good and the battery is still better than the 4.
I got an 11 Pro instead of the Pixel. After a week of random problems I had enough so it's between 4 and 4XL for me. None of the reviews mention how the Pro's wide angle is a gimmick except maybe for video.
hello,
i have pixel 4 from 5 days, prev pixel 2, my wife has pixel 3.
Unfortunately, battery it's worse than pixel3, give me aprox 3,5 SOT, Total 12h live, motion radar off, 90hz off, dark theme on....
