Hi guys, what app would you suggest as general kernel management app and why?
I want to buy ExKernel manager or FK kernel manager.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.exkernelmanager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
Is there any big difference between these two?
Thanks.

EX because I'm using the ElementalX kernel.
Generally speaking there are no 'the best', as it depends on your individual needs. They them, try Kernel Adiutor and make your own opinion.

I personally think if you want a lot of different tweaking features go with exkm, if you want something simple and easy to use, go with FK. Depends on what you want to do.

I`am using the stock 4.2.2 rom and Franco kernel r147 and batterylife and performance is great. Franco also offers good color and sound control. Screenontime is about 5 hours but it also depends on the user setup and usage off course. Btw benchmarks don`t mean anything, real life user xperience is what counts

1. No you don`t have to wipe the device, just flash the kernel and install Franco Kernel Updater from Play and set it up.
2. Rom`s you have to try for yourself, there are plenty AOSP an AOKP roms out there.

I recommend the 4.2.2 Nightlies, these are the latest releases with the latest tweaks and options. You can download and install kernels from within the franco Kernel App from Play. Your device beeing slow can also be caused by ongoing background processes like apps, widgets and syncs that strain the cpu.

Try undervolting, start with -50mV and if all goes well lower each step with -25mV. Undervolting reduces heat and thermal throtling issues. Just press the thanks button to thank someone that helped you

Look in custom kernel settings somewhere at the botom, there should be something about sound setttings i`am sure. Not on Franco atm so don`t know the exact location. Or look on the Franco kernel thread and use `search this forum`in the top right section for sound control.
Try this kernel, it is modified Franco kernel with Faux sound options http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272140.
thank youuuuuuu

Can anyone advise the best app to adjust settings on the 6p stock kernel? I am using kernal auditor and it seems to work ok. From the app store comments, it looks like Trickster doesn't work well with the 6p? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Any/all should have the same feature set more or less in the stock kernel. I prefer ElementalX and Kernel Aduiter

Hi Guys. Has anyone here used both Ex and Franco kernel manager? If you have I would like to know which one you prefer and why. I am looking for a universal kernel manager which gives me great customisation regardless of which kernel I use and full featured. I am currently using Blu kernel but not liking Kernel Auditor or MTweaks. Any recommendation on other apps is also appreciated.

I prefer EXKM because of it's clean UI, the integrated features and its fast and not overloaded with unnecessary stuff.
But as with everything else: it depends on the personal taste.
I like them both but with EXKM you have more control I feel. In the end its up how you feel they do for you.
Thanks guys. I looked around on other forums as well and people seems to be leaning towards EXKM as well. Looking at the screenshots it does look cleaner as well.

Hi guys,
my initial intention was to write down a guide/tutorial on kernels for Oneplus 5. But I don't know anything about kernels for mobile phone. Therefore i would like to ask you for your help. Or just pleasse if someone could answer my questions, believe lots of people have same questions.
I searched the forum but found nothing satisfactory/
1) Why should I use custom kernel?
2) What is custom kernel?
3) There are 10+ kernels for oneplus 5, how do I choose one? What are main differences betweem kernels?
4) If I have custom kernel, do I need to install Advanced Kernel Tweeks or Kernel Adiutor apps?
5) What these apps c an do?
I am keen on customizing my phone a lot. But kernel questions bug ne,Thanksfo reply!

You should have asked the 2nd question first but NVM.
1.Depending upon the kernel you use, custom kernels can provide better battery life and/or stability and/or performance.e.g Flash kernel focuses on stability,Franco kernel focuses on battery life,blu_spark focuses on performance.
2.A custom kernel is a kernel which is customized depending on the needs.
3.For better real-life performance and stability,I would suggest using Flash kernel or the "New kernel"(found on 1+5ts thread, compatible with 1+5)
4.Flash kernel and the "New kernel" are flash and forget types, you are better off flashing and forgetting them. However, you can use EXKM or Kernel adiutor to tweak the settings. The only setting I change is I change the I/O scheduler to Maple, that too using a script file.Hence I don't use any kernel modifying apps.I don't use AKT,you can give a try tho.I've heard that AKT for Oreo has bugs so I won't recommend.
5.You can change governor's,clock speeds, schedulers, block wakelocks blah blah blah....I personally don't recommend you to change the settings. The best settings have already been set by the devs as default settings.

Battery life is good enough.
@vector88 everyone that asks this questions i recommend to read that guide how governors are doing their job and why they are essential for good balance of battery life/performance: https://androidmodguide.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html
