anyone else that is using a unlocked phone on att with the medianet plan know if there is a cap i no its "unlimited" but i heard there was a 5gb cap is that true? because if so i went over that 5gb tonight and was wondering whats going to happen..
Has anyone been able to switch to a 4G unlimited data plan (in the NYC area)? If so, details please. I'm having issues.
There is no specific "4g" plan, it's all just considered the data plan. If you want unlimited though, you can easily get the medianet $10/$15 plan as your phone is not one AT&T provides. You'll get all the benefits of "4g" a.k.a. HSPA+.

Seriously? I thought there was a 4g unlimited plan, along with an iPhone unlimited plan, and 3G smartphone unlimited plan.
Anyway, I have the iPhone unlimited plan and thought I could upgrade to the 4G one just to get faster speeds.
I'm currently getting the H+ signal and maxing at 3.3 Mbps download but averaging at 2 Mbps. I thought I could go faster...
There's no separate plan, its all the same data plan. Do some tests at night to check faster download speeds when the network is not so congested.

Just wondering, what's the difference between the $10 plan and the $15 plan? Never got a straight answer as to the differences of them.

Dude, that is just our area, highest I've ever hit is 6.5/7 (and that was once, ever). It'll get better as we get different modems too.
The $10 is for the ones who pay the $30/month family unlimited messaging plan, otherwise it's $15.
Will I at least be able to get regular 3g speeds or do they throttle you even more?
Bad. Very, very, very, very bad.
I work for a retailer and I sell a hell of a lot of T-Mobile. You will be down to edge and from then on, it's pretty unusable. Their HSPA+ is brilliant in my area. It rivals the speeds of VZW's LTE here... But running on 2G is horrible. If you're on a classic plan and can afford to shell out another $10 a month, I'd just go for the truly unlimited data without any throttling. I mean, that's if you don't feel that 2 GIGs of HSPA+ is enough.
I'll be going with their $30/mo plan with 5gb of 4g data. You have to really try to go over 5gb of data lol

If you're spending $30/month it's unlimited now. There is no throttling on that plan. Th only 5GB plan they offer is $35 and that gives you the mobile hotspot feature. So, you should be good either way! I love the anti-throttle that they have going on. Definitely worth the extra $10 over the 2GB plan if you ask me.

Hate to burst your bubble but if you read the fine print on the $30 Monthly 4G it says first 5GB up to 4G speeds.

found out that they throttle you to 2g speeds.

Really? I'm going to check that when I get in to work today. I've read the fine prints on our new "TRULY UNLIMITED" brochures and the new contracts and I don't recall reading anything about that. I wouldn't put it past big magenta, though. Seriously.
I do know that the old contracts read something about "To provide a good experience to the majority of our customers (blah blah blah) up to 5GB." At our meeting a few months back about this, we were all told to make sure we're switching customers off of their grandfathered unlimited data plans that had the 5GB cap and move them to the newer ones.
Then again, I'm at a retailer that does VZW and AT&T as well, so I could be misinformed when it comes to that. I'm definitely going to have to look into it more.

Monthly4G plans are prepaid. Truly Unlimited Nationwide 4G is only offered on postpaid accounts. Assuming the OP is talking about a postpaid Truly Unlimited Nationwide 4G account, then there is no (advertised) throttle. As described here:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Packages/ValuePackages.aspx
"There are no limits, no overages, no worries—you never have to keep track of how much data you use."
Monthly4G accounts will throttle to EDGE speeds after you use up your allotment of 4G (ex. "*First 5 GB at up to 4G speeds").
I wonder how T-Mobile's plans will shake up next year when they get rid of contract plans altogether and introduce LTE.
I went over my throttle limit once, when I move houses and didn't have broadband for a month. Throttle is slow.. Slower than edge. About the same speed as dialup.

I was really impressed when I heard that Simple Mobile uses T-Mobiles frequency and SM also have HSPA+. What I really didn't like was the fact that their 3G is really slow . Before throttle my speed would be 12 down and 2 up, after throttle it would stick as 0.23 kbps down and 0.10 kbps up. My question is how is the 3G on T-Mobile? I heard that they increased the speed on 3G for T-Mobile. I'm really considering of doing the 50$ plan for T-Mobile (i use up a lot of minutes). If I get throttled how fast is 3G? Is it as close as their HSPA+? I dont mind the 3G speed as long as its good enough speed. I know they have the 30$ plan with 5gb of data, but like I said I tend to use up a lot of minutes.

What plan on SIMPLE do you have? While $40 is 250 MB High Speed data, then throttled to 2G, their $50 plan has unlimited High Speed Data.
It they throttle you on the $50 plan, I would call them and ask WTF?
If you need tethering, then switching to T-Mobile makes more sense.

T-Mobile users get priority over simple users. Something to consider.
How do you know if you're being throttled on Verizon on an unlimited data plan?
I am already at 5GB with my new GN3 because of video streaming.
Is there any way to censor/block throttling?

I average between 17 and 19GB per month on unlimited (without tethering) and have never noticed a slow down due to high usage.

Doubt they throttle at all, my friend from here uses 100+ gb of data month, never said he's been throttled.

No throttle.
If I remember correctly... The FCC slapped Verizon with a $1M fine a while back for trying to charge limited users for tethering and trying to throttle speeds on their network. Because of the spectrum they use for LTE it isn't allowed by federal law and they signed agreements to that fact.

I do about 60 gb a month and have not been throttled.

This is awesome news. I won't hold back my streaming now.
The sharing of your GB usage really helps.

Doubt they throttle unlimited but they try to get to lose it as best they can i had unlimited and when they switched over my phone they sneeked in a special step putting my number on a basic line temp so my data would be lost so i lost unlimited got it back i used 100+ a month because it was faster then my wifi they did not like that
If you have to ask this question, they're throttling you.
Only way to really know is to do speed tests randomly throughout the month to see what kind of speed you're getting.
no throttle.
did 116gb this month. record high for me. lol.
I notice certain places on the Web are slower than normal
I work from home and download big files which was at normal speeds up until just a few weeks ago
Now I cannot download big files because of how slow my connection becomes
People even on Verizon website notice
