Does anyone maintain some type of comparison of the various kernels? Like what is the same, what is different, advantages of one over another?
okay, how about a thread explaining what to look for? Maybe a noob's guide to Android Kernels?

Im trying to find info or better yet a tutorial on how to mainly "port" android, say from a CM nightly over to HD2. I have a bit of experience with coding older motorola phones, so I believe I have the capabilities of learning such a process.
I have read the threads about linux on HD2, and read up on the links that are in it. thats mainly about kernals. nothing about taking an already developed android ROM and making it work w/HD2.
Is there any info that I can read up on, or if anyone wants to give me some info it would be greatly appreciated.
Devs dont really look in the general section do they?
.... well, pretty much everything, from flashing roms to boot screens.
Most of the instructions, both here and modaco and other sites are well documented, but arnt easy for the layman to follow or to know why one does something in a process.
Id like to see a blow by blow guide with commented out notes so us noobs can get a grasp as to whats happening.
Perhaps with a clear difficulty level to show whats tried and tested and whats at an alpha stage for eg the cm mod vs pauls mod to stop fopk getting unstuck.
Comments?

Would be nice to have a list of all the various mods and roms for the Vega with links and tutorials. There's a thread like that on Modaco I think, but I believe its just related to Paul's mod and usb drivers.

you'll prob find quite a lot of stuff coming from me in respect of lower end stuff in the coming weeks - tutorials and the like. I've been concentrating on my defy recently but am going to put that to one side and concentrate on the vega for a while. I have observed and understand fully there are alot of new people to Android and its well needed.
Hello all
Modaco and here have always had alot of great advice, but for utterly new users some terms etc are diff to understand.
I know that flashing a rom isnt for the faint hearted,, but with a device like the vega, which is essentially crippled without pauls rom etc itd be great to get a simple guide to make this devce wha it could be.
Btw apologies for terrible spelling, but the stock vega keybioard is a pain.
Looking forward to any unbiased guides.

Would anyone make a sticky thread with comparison of the main roms out there? Main features, what's not working, purpose (speed or max features), build on, and so on.
We newbies in rooting field would be very grateful for that.
either make one yourself... or... PM moderator for it.... this aint the place for putting up questions....
I remember coming from the HTC Blackstone forum, they had an excel sheet with all roms and their benchmark results. This is ALOT of work and you have to rely on other users.
Also you want to keep track of what rom does or not?
And also do you want to include different kernels??
Sounds like an ambiguous but an "not done" project to me.
But hey, if you could spare the time, go ahead.
I will even submit benchmark results from the roms i'm using.
First of all, there is one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916431. Although, it's lumped in with other info and it needs to be updated, you can ask in that thread to remind the op that it needs updating.
Second: enjoy!

Ok, I think we need more Kernel devs.
We only have a few, and the only one I know on the top of my head is OdiemanSAM. I am trying to learn now aswell.
When developing Ice Cream Sandwich, we need more kernels.
So why am I making this thread? We will use it as a central for kernel knowledge, so people wanting to learn will know where to go. Also, ask questions here. Also, post with more links, and ill put it in the OP. Thanks.

I have already had experience with building cm but not building kernels....I imagine it is quite similar though. Do you have any links related to building kernels?
I would personally love to learn how to build kernels....I have been dying to put together a new kernel for gingerbread that integrates the features of all the kernels we have in our g2 section. All the governors as well as the under -volting abilities are my top priorities.

I would like to flash a ROM any suggestions and good guides I should use?
best is too much to ask. there are none that are better than any other....
it is 110% user preference, so read thru the threads... figure out what features you want and then compare what is "best" foe you
I agree with the above post its mainly user preference as to which one you should pick as different ROMs have different features. I would also suggest checking out the PH1 Telegram group as well since you will find not only help with flashing and other problems you may encounter. You will also find other things which you may like including some ROMs not posted on xda. The link for it if your interested is https://t.me/EssentialPH1DEV
