I never had a previous OnePlus so I can't confirm how it compares to the previous OnePlus.
I do have a Note9 and it is significantly weaker than the Note9.
However, I don't find it bad, someone on Reddit described it as similar to plucking a guitar string which I find to be pretty accurate.
For me it reminds me of my old LG V20
It's pretty bad compared to a Samsung phone.
The last time I had a phone with a vibration motor this weak, I had to leave the audio on so I could hear when notifications came in. Smartwatches weren't a thing back then so today the motor is tolerable since anything important comes to my watch.

So I just got the Nexus 10. I played around with it for a while and I love it. This is my first tablet and I was a bit surprised by how much vibration it had when the sound was anywhere above 50%. I know these speakers are suppose to be pretty powerful (in terms of tablets). Has anyone else noticed this? I guess I just want to make sure my device isn't defective.
Light&thin + powerful sound = vibrations.
Yes, I noticed it too, but there's no way around it if you want to stay on the light&thin (and cheap) side.

I figured as much. I wasn't really complaining, I just wanted to make sure nothing was lose or defective.
Physics wins again!! Damn resonant frequencies
Can't wait til I get one of these next week hopefully -- Is the vibration disturbingly bad?

This is my first tablet so I can't rally compare it to another. Let just say that I "noticed" the vibrations and it kinda shocked me how much there was. Is it horrible or distracting? Not really. Esp if you keep your fingers closer to the edge of the tablet. Plus if your playing Need For Speed it kinda adds a touch of realism.
This is for those who have received there Nexuses (Nexii?)
I've owned HTC (Nexus One) and Samsung (S3) so as far as haptic feedback I'm curious if it's comparable to either HTC or Samsung regarding preciseness/strength. Samsung is very quick but feels like a small weight spinning quickly whereas HTC feels stronger like it's a bigger weight spinning slowly. I'm not sure how to explain it better... but those of you that have used each brand will have experienced the difference.
Samsung's just feels cheap compared to my Nexus One. It's almost too fast and a little spazzy.
Sorry to seem picky but it's just one of those things that gets under my skin if it doesn't feel right.

If haptic feedback is what you like, trust me, look no further. N4 is flawless in that area.

Does the feedback strength vary for anyone? Sometimes it feels strong and other times it feels weak and sometimes I get no feedback at all

The feedback is great IMHO. The website ifixitDOTcom says the vibrations is produced by a "linear-oscillating vibrator motor" which I think lends to a more precise and controlled feel.

Mine is almost non-existent somtimes. I have been looking around for an app that will let you to adjust it on the fly, as the settings simply allow on/off. I prefer a more robust haptic, than what stock offers.

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Moto Z, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Moto Z is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
So far better than expected. Coming from Galaxy Note 7, and I like this phone so far. Jury still out on battery life, but I had low expectations for that to begin with. (Unlocked T-Mobile)
I'm using the Chinese version but flashed the european firmware to use the google services. My last phone was moto x 2014. I'm happy with Z's fingerprint and camera(just compare with moto phones), and also the excellent design and build quality. Battery life is a little better than the new x as I expected, so there's nothing to complain about.
I'm coming from a TMo note 5. How's the battery life for you?

Also coming from Note 5 (but ATT not TMo) I have to say my Screen on time is way higher on the Moto Z. Note 5 battery life really wasnt that great.
I am coming from OnePlus 2 (flashed official CyanogenMod 13.0). I seriously miss the notification LED - please don't get it wrong - I know there is this "wave your hand over the screen notification" - but I found the notification LED to be more convenient.
Secondly, I am unable to setup Moto voice assist. I live in a place with lots of steams and bustles (24 hours) and the device is unable to measure the echo (or whatever it's called) - showing lots of error warnings (please don't advice me to go to a jungle to do the setup)!!
By the way, the loudness of ringtone and/or notification is pathetic (even @ 100%)!! Now imagine the horror - low loudness and without a notification LED - I am sure I have quite a rough and unpleasant ride ahead...
Battery life is okay-ish for me - leaves me with a 15%-18% juice when I return home at evening (I charge it 100% every morning).
Screen is the main reason (and that SoC sd820) - I am still liking the device. I am not yet sure whether I "love" the device - but I definitely like it.

Current version of Moto Display sucks. For some dumb reason they removed breathing function that would show notifications without the need to wave your hand.
Install Missed Call Reminder. With that you can at least configure screen to flash a notification (or camera leds to flash) when there is a missed call or message:

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the app did not work at all on my device!:crying:
If I could have a iota of the idea that Motorola got ****tier with Lenovo, I would've opted for an LG G5.
I read on Motorola forum that the low loudness of the ringtone and the notification is a software issue and can probably get fixed with an update. Can anyone please pour in their inputs?

Weird, it works fine with my Moto Z (eu-version).
Btw. I have had no problems with ringtone or notification volume been too low. Only problem is that their volume control is linked, but that is Google's "bright" idea (but Lenovo should still have made them separate like few other manufacturers do). I modified my favourite ringtone files to play at a little lower volume so now notifications play at the same level.

Mine is an Indian version; even then, do the version(s) differ drastically? Probably I am doing something wrong. The thing is - when I am trying the demo mode ("try" mode) - nothing actually happens - no flash, no screen lit-up, nothing.

That's odd. It's definitely listed under Moto Z Play -> Moto Z Play Guides, News, & Discussion -> Overall love
As far as battery life, it's by far the best battery life I've ever had on a phone. If you're a heavy user like I usually am during the weekend, then you get about a day and a half and roughly 10ish hours of SOT. If you're one of those people that uses a phone to do phone things primarily, doesn't play games etc, you can get a few days worth of battery out of it ez. This week (bc of thanksgiving) has been sporadic with me.
I miss the LED too - and don't understand why they removed the 'breathe' display. I love the phone, though - and I'll love it even more when they fix the 'quiet reminder' issue.
I come from a Moto G 2014/ Xperia Z2.
My Z2 just stopped working last september and since i bought my gf an Xperia M5 for her birthday i asked her to lend me her G2 2014, Sim reader was busted but costed me 2 dollars to replace myself, installed CM14 and stayed there for 2 months. AT&T offered me both this and the Huaweii P9 Plus but i went for the Z Play.
I like others miss the notification led from the G2, but i have since installed Chronus and I'm using the active display feature alongside chronus for quick updates on notifications. I'm a power user and heavy on the camera so this phone doesn't disappoints at all... I don't feel the urge to root it or install a custom rom since the interface is just so pure.
Only complain i would kinda say i have is the fingerprint reader. It's not that it doesn't work properly... it's that it is a bit...slow, t least compared to the one on the P9.
Battery is above golden truly. Yesterday i used the phone all the day long, and the went on a full 6 hours of screen time on spotify at a party, i arrived home with 57% of battery, obviously I was very much impressed.

It would be really useful if you could adjust the time of the "breathing" display when a notification arrived... It's a real super device but it needs one or two things to change...

Wow, that's disappointing. OPO's vibration motor is already weak as it is.
While you're at it, how is the flash LED's brightness compared to the OPO's? I hope it's not the same disappointing outcome.
Its softer than the OPO?
Geez, thats terrible
My Axon 7 vibration is more audible than feelable. When vibrating it sounds like a clarinet or other woodwind making a low note. As a result I can't leave the Axon on vibrate when I'm in a movie theatre or other silent place.
hi chaps,. Had 7 pro for year, and haptic feedback on this was absolutely brilliant, moved to 8 pro, and so far left disappointed,. here's the quote from xda review-
It’s a niche subject, but I mention it since I’ve been spoiled from great haptics on iPhones. Many users prefer to disable their vibrations, but I find them pleasant to interact with on a quality motor. What irks me is that last year’s OnePlus 7 Pro had excellent haptics. They were strong, controlled, and they didn’t make much of an audible sound at all. And I would happily take the “weaker” motor if it meant a silent one.
This year, OnePlus says that the vibration motor in the OnePlus 8 Pro is 11% stronger, which I haven’t really noticed from typical usage, but now there’s also an audible

haptic feedback yes, vibration intensity for calls , texts etc, no, vibrator is stronger , but haptic feedback is somew flawed
Came from s10+ and I prefer the haptic feedback from OP8 pro. In my opinion it is so much better and tightly controlled.
That's disappointing. Would have fault it would be as good if not better than the 7 pro
There's differences in opinion in this thread. It's all over the board.

In precision, strength or both? Can you comment about any sort of audible noise coming from it that shouldn't be there?
It produces a sound, but actually I wasn't aware at first that it wasn't simple sound coming from the speakers. It felt very natural to me, to have this sound accompany small vibration when typing. Overall I would describe it as water droplet falling into water. But, it is very silent.

For both. I think its a little bit louder than the iPhone and the sound is a little bit higher, but it depends on the action and strength.

Hi bro at this time i have a iphone xs max and u know the haptic on this device is amazing and i'm thinking to get a new device from android and i searched that oneplus give u a fantastic android experience but what u say about op8 pro u give me littile confuse about this phone cuz i really like the haptic feedback
so do u prefer i get the op7 pro over 8pro especially for haptic feedback??? can u please help me with this?
Best regards
I wouldn't get the 7 Pro over the 8 Pro just because of the sound of the vibration. The vibration is stronger, but it's a bit "louder" / more audible. As one here said you could think that it's a sound that is coming out of the speakers. To be honest except of this the 8 Pro is a better device in every regard. Ok, I also prefer the more subtile edges of the 7 Pro for the side back gesture, because the feeling swiping over the edge is a bit "hard", but I will probably get used to it.

If you're looking into great haptics on an Android phone, you can also check Pixel 4.
Also, the software experience is the smoothest you can get (for an Android phone), and feels refined. (and that's coming from a long-term oneplus user)
Personally I prefer the haptics from pixel 4 over oneplus 7 pro (both tested)

I agree the haptics are a bit better on the pixel 4 XL compared to 7 pro
A bit late but I think, while the vibration is actually better on the OP 8 Pro, it is delayed. And this lag absolutely ****s me up while typing.
I'm seriously thinking about returning it and switch back to my s10+ which has worse haptics, but at least it's accurate.
I had this problem with every Oneplus phone I owned, and it's just sad. Now that they went full on flagship it would be better I thought, but nah.
have the pixel 4 xl and the 8 Pro, I think the pixel 4 xl "feels" better and is a little stronger, but only marginally. what bugs me is the noise the haptic on the 8 Pro makes. yes it does sound like it's coming from the speakers, but it's not which is even more frustrating.
