gcam port works wonders - Razer Phone 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

I posted this in the real life review section as well but that kind of gets buried. The gcam from bsg(https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-bsg/) for the mi 8 works wonders on this thing. Takes camera quality from truly bad to right behind my pixel 2. i made a post on reddit where i posted a cropped comparison of stock v gcam v p2 in a lowly lit room of some carpet. Carpet is a good test just like grass for comparing fine details. https://www.reddit.com/r/razerphone/comments/9rv2ed/google_cam_port_quality_vs_stock_app_vs_pixel_2/ . Same results can be seen from the front facing camera as well its like razer isnt doing anything special with algorithms just if it takes a picture its good enough when the hardware is capable of so much more.

Do you mind posting a few more pics if possible in different scenarios? Also, is the Gcam super slow or anything?

I will definitely post more today and I'll leave them full sized as well instead of a cropped section. Right now the version I am using only works with hdr+ on so it takes maybe 1 second to save a photo. The trade off is well worth it but hopefully either an update to the port or a better one comes along so hdr+ off works too.

Awesome, thanks man! The Gcam does make a huge difference. I'm excited about picking one up soon. I'm just holding off to be sure it can be rooted.

Thanks for the tip. Its a night and day difference using gcam vs the default cam.

good to hear. I just wanted to try and get the word out that the camera is not actually as awful as all the reviews say it is. I mean yeah with the stock app the quality is awful in any scenario. With the gcam port it can keep up with my pixel 2 xl which is not a bad place to be. this phone is too good to be overlooked because people dont know about the google cam ports.

Just tested, massive difference. Appreciate you posting this!

Doesn't this thing have the same Sony sensor as the Pixel 3? If that's true, all of Google's fancy machine learning they did for that phone becomes pretty much directly applicable. So it would stand to reason this phone could benefit quite a lot more than others from GCam ports.

Yeah this has the same imx363 that's in the pixel 3. The LG v40, Poco f1, mi 8 and others also have this sensor. Too bad no reviewers will review this with the gcam port.. instead they will keep telling everyone the camera is trash

It's a good first step, probably the most stable gcam on a Razer ever.
That being said, ZSL and Slow Motion do not work.

Can confirm major difference.

Confirmed. Major difference. Roll my eyes when people say the camera is "trash". Compared my OnePlus 6 to my Razer Phone 2 w/ gcam. Razer phone 2 looks better imo. Here are some pics.

Shooting in raw gives pretty decent results. Gcam doesn't seem to expose any pro settings though so I think I could do better.

it would be dumb if reviewers start doing that. And that would make the phone makers lazy. It the manufacturers work to make it a out of the box wonder, not a third party enthusiast who looks after it and makes it work the way it should.

The thing is the phone is being slammed for a bad camera. so people dont buy it thinking the camera is bad when its just the app. Reviews should make a side note can greatly improve the quality by trying a 3rd party. Your comment is like saying google chrome (or any other stock google app) sucks on a pixel device like there arent any alternatives to use instead. imagine reviews "the browser is laggy dont buy" then install firefox its fine. i know for a fact if i didnt know about google cam ports after watching reviews i probably would not have bought it or if i did i definitely would have returned it after seeing the trash first hand.

While your idea fundamentally works, not everything is black and white. You are on XDA, and that itself says a lot about you. I can easily say that if you have doubt about something, you look it up on internet first then start talking with relatives about the doubt. There is a huge demographic who is not going to bother with all that nonsense. They will just buy a phone, go to play at the very best if something nags. They will keep complaining about it for the rest of their lives. Saying its software's fault is stupid. Don't you blame Sony for their unremarkable performance in camera department even though they have the top Sensors embedded in them?

I actually kind of agree with this. Messing with modded apks is probably beyond like 70-80% of users and it's actually kind of dangerous the less you know what you're doing. I know for a fact I can squeeze the best out of hardware I buy, but I wouldn't be able to recommend this phone on camera performance to anyone else. Especially when they can just buy a Pixel 3.
A good point though is that unlike with the previous Razer phone there is at least no hardware limit. This means Razer has massive headroom to improve their software for a better out of the box experience. And since this device is their only shot currently, they're kind of obliged to not give up. Unfortunately it means waiting.

thats why i say they can mention something like "if you want to fiddle and understand some risk you can greatly improve it if not get something else" instead of flatly condemning it. I sadly dont have hopes of razer improving the cam quality would be nice if they did. Everyone had hopes of essential fixing their cam quality after them saying they would... nope didnt happen. And yeah no i wouldnt recommend it to anyone for camera performance unless i know they are capable to know the risks and whatnot when it comes to a modded apk.

i kind of sounded like an ass with my reply didnt mean to. i just mean they can mention something like "if you want to fiddle and understand some risk you can greatly improve it if not get something else" instead of flatly condemning it. to be honest i always forget sonys exist and that one i never understood but they deserve the flak since they make the sensors and have a camera division so thats kind of a different thing. i give razer some slack for having a crap camera app since they are relatively new to this. Sony doesnt deserve any slack. razers ceo and his "top engineers" as he calls them do need to step it up not easy but it can happen. And it technically is the software at fault just saying. They can fix it and everything will be good in the world or they can leave it like its current rotten potato state.

[Q] Nexus S owners, convince me to get this phone!

Hi Nexus S owners,
So am I am torn between the Xperia Arc, or Nexus S as my next phone.
I want to know some real stories here, what do you love about the nexus S, what is not so great?
I made a list of pros and cons of the device, tell me if there is anything I should add
Pros:
seems very stable
updates delivered in a timely fashion
no bloatware
fast
larger internal memory (than Arc)
Cons:
only 16GB storage
camera is not as nice as the Arc
Here are some things I would like to know:
Is there better camera software in the app store that may improve the stock camera?
How is the screen in bright daylight?
In my head, I am leaning towards this phone, mostly because of the lack of carrier/manufacturer "bloatware", and the fact that I will get updates straight from Google whenever they come out. But the main thing that is holding me back is the camera. I am a photographer, and always like to have a camera with me. I can't always carry my DSLR, so I need something that can function as a half decent P&S.

You should get whatever you want, I'm not going to try to convince you. But I will answer your questions
Camera software: Vignette is the best on the market. It takes fantastic uncompressed pictures and improves ANY camera hardware in my opinion.
Sunlight: I have never seen another phone that is as readable in the sunlight as the Nexus S. The SAMOLED is tailor-made for this. It's miles ahead of any other screen technology when it comes to sunlight visibility. It's one of the strongest features of the Nexus S.
Thanks!
I am merely looking for real user experiences. I still need to go to the store to play around with both of the phones.
Thats good to hear about the sunlight visibility. How do you find the camera on the nexus s? Does the vignette app add touch to focus?

Yes it adds touch to focus
I have the SLCD screen on the Nexus S, I've never seen a screen this amazing. It's fantastic in broad daylight, actually, it doesn't even matter in where you use it, it's always legible.
The camera is good, for a 5MP it's really good. It has no digital zoom though, beware, some people want that feature

The camera is very good. It takes better photos than any other mobile device I have owned (2nd would be Evo 4G which was not bad at all).
Your idea to go play with the phones is a good one. I was only mildly interested in the Nexus S until I was at Best Buy one day and they had one and I got to hold it. There was no turning back. I knew then there was no other phone in the world for me
the version here in canada is the AMOLED one. Digital zoom is not an issue at all
My current phone is a SE C905a, w/ 8mp camera. Camera is a big deal to me, but from what I have seen in reviews, it's not too bad. I even compared the camera's on gsmarena between the arc and the nexus s, and they seem comparable. Minus the fact that the Arc has 720p video
well, despite of low specs, camera is really good, i can't compare with arc camera, but i'm coming from a desire hd (what was announced as best android camera by that time) and i prefer nxs camera, mainly because shots in dark places that is way better, but also, camera in DHD is mostly for still life, because it blur with any movement.
16gb is enought for me, (i used to have 8gb in my dhd it was never full), and now, with google music, the decision must be based in your data plan, if you have an "unlimited" one, you have no problem at all! Said that, i can tell you: what is avalaible for storage is only 13,3gb, don't ask me why.
about screen sunligh, i can't help you, since i have a 9023 (with slcd).
another thing: i really think you should get both in your hand and decide, most things are not in specs lists, they are in how you fell with the phone. eg, i really hate 'haptic feedback' in nexus s and i loved in DHD and that is a thing i can't know without get it in my hand.
and some more things, nexus is a pretty device, looks nice with the screen off, all black, like a monolith. the cuverd screen is really beautiful (besides let it good upon your face).
BUT, the main reason i bought it is to escape of the "race for the best device of the week"... you know what i mean.
sorry for typos and bad engrish! =o)
I got this phone cuz it's Google Nexus series.
There are of course better phones out right now like the Galaxy S2 i believe with dual core or what not. When I got my NS last December, it was a pretty good phone, but if you keep holding out for something better, you'll never buy anything.

You definitly got a point. A recently cleaned Nexus S is almost a guaranteed buy (or sell, whatever pov ). One of the best looking phones while in stand-by.

If you care about getting the latest android within a few days after being released, NxS is the only option. Beside that and the pretty looks I think Arc and NxS are pretty much on the same level. If you can't decide because of looks or the immediate updates, compare the price, still no winner, flip a coin, I think you can't go wrong really between NxS and Arc.
--
Btw, the non-720p videos (scaled to 720p) shot with NxS look way better then most 720p vids from other smartphones.

I do care about the updates, it seems SE has been doing better since the whole thing with the X10. But who knows how long that will last!
I love the looks of both phones. They are totally different looks wise, but both appeal to me. I think making these threads is actually making the decision harder for me! lol, I thought for sure I was going to get the arc, now I am on the fence again...

Worst thing to do when you bought a technical device. The moment the money has been spend stop looking for alternatives/replacements, that's a vicious circle

I know!
I think I am going to go tomorrow to play with both phones, I still have a week or so until I can get either one...I am becoming obsessive..
Don't make the MISTAKE I did...choose the Nexus S for the love of GOD. Do NOT buy the Arc.
I walked into a Rogers Store thinking I knew how the Arc would handle and feel, playing with a dummy phone WRONG. I bought the thing cash for $700 after tax and a $19 case.
I go home, fire it up and instant regret.
I will list everything wrong with the phone in my opinion:
1. Multitouch is retarded. When you try it out go into gallery and try to pinch to zoom around pics...it will not behave correctly.
2. If you can access the browser, go to a web site that allows you to pinch to zoom and just set your finger tips on the screen motionless...watch as the screen vibrates and goes crazy.
3. Screen is too thin and long. I found typing to be really bad, and SE removed speach to text from the Arc stock keyboard. Also the Arc keyboard is not multitouch.
4. The build quality is much worse than the Nexus S. The back door creeks and makes noises almost everywhere you touch it.
5. The screen IMO looks washed out, but sharp.
6. On 3 bars I dropped a call 5 times in the same call! WTF is that?
7. Arcs screen SUCKS. Its mineral glass with a thick plastic "shatter proof film" on it that not only gets scratched up too fast, but makes the screen a finger print, smudgy mess. Horrible.
Anyways the Arc is so bad I actually took my Arc (that I just had dropped $700 on 2 days before) and traded it for a used/mint Nexus S and I could not be happier. My only regret is that I did not buy the Nexus S first.
Sure the Arc has some nice features like HDMI out (I found useless really) and it does Video nice (I find the Nexus S takes better pics personally)
Go Nexus S or you'll be sorry...I can PROMISE you that...

Wow, this kind of things is always in the back of my mind when thinking about either one.
Do you think it was the firmware you were using? Not saying you are wrong, but just wondering.
The camera thing intrigues me, on the gsmarena camera compare tool, the nexus s did look a little better at 100% crop. Check it out.
The arc seems to be fuzzier, there is a loss of detail in the 100% crop.......
I will check all that stuff out when I go to physically use the phones, hopefully today.
I hesitated and I finally went with the NS. Reasons:
Unlocked bootloader means custom ROMs
Always up to date software
Fast smooth UI with no carrier or OEM crap on it. I'll load my own crap thank you very much.
This phone will be useable long after SE ditches support for the Arc and relegates it to the scrap heap.

I don't think you will regret it.. the general attitude I see, and share, is that once you own a Nexus device you really don't want to own anything else. I came from an Epic 4G for example, so the hardware between that and my Nexus S 4G are literally identical. However, the Nexus S runs circles around the Epic which is crippled with the TouchWiz framework.
You really just can't beat AOSP the way Google intended.

What Samsung is doing: Nokia offers $100 rebate for Lumia 900 software bug

I love my SGN like anything but issue with black background is too much and it seems Samsung is not even bother to have a word about it which is effecting almost all SGN devices.
Samsung is not just letting down it's reputation but somewhere it also effect way things being handled in Android world.
what problem are you talking about? My Note is running flawlessly without any problem and I think the majority of us have a perfectly working device. Maybe you have a faulty device??

well then you might be unaware of the issue yet. check the below post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430847
it is basically color rendering issue when seeing video having black background in dark room (few other related issues with black background as well).
99% of people who look for a problem will find it..even if they did not previously know such a problem exists.
I have no expectation that the SGN is color accurate.. No phone i ever have had has been, or ever will be, nor is any computer monitor for that matter.
I think the SGN is more than perfectly acceptable for its intended purpose.

I don't know but there are far too much people complaining about small things about the Note these past weeks and this is becoming quite annoying! Each time I come to the "General" part of this forum, there seems to be always someone bringing up something every week.....I mean, how picky can someone be with a phone? It is working correctly right? Games/Movies/Camera/Internet/Musics are playing correctly? So, what's the reason to complain and to create a NEW post for something we already know??

Trying to justify buying/switching to another device that they know they will later regret.
I call it the witch hunt. Every phone has issues. Ics fixed banding issues but now we have to find another "flaw". Please name 1 device better than the galaxy note overall. And don't mention gimmicks like quad core.
Just because Nokia doesn't have a back bone and teamed up with windows phone, guess what, its still a windows phone lol.

I love my screen, either I'm totally oblivious to these errors, or my note is fine. I watch videos all the time and never seen a problem, games are fine black backgrounds are fine. Not that I know what banding and black clipping is, but if it was that bad surely I would notice something wasn't right?

it was not to let anyone know about the issues it was rather to highlight Nokia's strategy vs Samsung. nothing to do with SGN, i also see it as best.
it seems interpretation would be what you want to write rather what comment means actually.

I am supecting this problem only existed in the early batch of SGN manufactured.
Both of the two white SGN I bought early this month don't have this screen defect. I even double checked before this post to make sure. Maybe they revised AMOLED panel already?
In a very dark room with screen intensity set to 71,335% and a small fairy waving a magic wand and chanting the theme song to Rocky I get banding with a downloaded, ****ty encoded divx movie and it really bothers me. Nokia is giving away free monies for a totally unrelated issue so now I feel entitled to free stuff from Samsung.
Oh, and my LG had 4 capacitive buttons and my Note only has two, I'm let down by this obvious design error so now I want even more monies and freebees.
So what that Samsung doesn't admit to this problem (that to me isn't even a widespread problem)? Would your life be any better if they said, yeah, you could have slight distortion in dark scenes? Would you be healthier? Would the love of your life suddenly call you when Samsung says something about banding?
Gorilla glass being prone to scratching (duh, it's glass...), slight distortion under very specific conditions, yeah, XDA is getting better every day.
Every phone has it's flaws but still, this is by far the best phone I have ever had.

The big difference is that Nokia is a company in crisis and is haemorrhaging customers, whereas Samsung is not.
This makes for completely different approaches in strategy.
If Nokia was as healthy as Apple or Samsung, no doubt it wouldn't be offering any such rebates!
For me, the whole black clipping "issue" has disappeared since I moved to an ICS based ROM, and (more importantly) reduce my dependence on DivX encoded AVIs. However, even before that, the SGN was still the best convergent device I've *ever* had, and I've had a lot of them!

What rom are you on now? moving to ICS Stunner did absolutely nothing for me, clipping was still there just as bad.

why ive caved and decided i WILL get the SGSIII

well it seems everyone is making one of these lately, so i figured i would too.
Why i considered passing
first off, as most of you, i was pretty disappointed after Samsung's release.. i heard about this barrel-less, 1080p HD AMOLED Plus display, a tall order indeed, but with Samsung's track record, and complex to beat Apple in every area, totally believable! the Galaxy Nexus released half a year ago attained 720p, so the obvious next step was 1080p, especially after Samsung made that 2048x1536 iPad3 screen for Apple.
Samsung had announced their A15 processor, and everyone started going quadcore, so while i wasnt making any bets on it, i was hopeful for a quadcore A15, instead we got the quadcore A9.
onto the design, i had no gripes with the look of it, short of it didnt look like the rumored barrel-less look. im pleased with white, but shocked theres no black
Not waterproof =[, i know it was a stretch, but early rumors suggested we may see a waterproof Galaxy phone here. sadly not the case
Lastly, i was hopeful for the Xenon flash
basically, we didnt get this

Why i Reconsidered
Screen
while its very disappointing, it IS an upgrade from the SGSII, just because of sheer pixel density. 720 pentile > 480 RGB
Sound
the SGSIII will be the sound phone of the year! with an amazing Soundchip with DAC, and one of the first to use APT-X LOSSLESS Bluetooth Audio Streaming! my car's new stereo will be very happy!
Better FASTER Camera
while the MP hasnt changed, the sensor of the camera has, and now with zero shutter lag, finally! the picture i see when i snap a shot will be the picture i get, not whatever happens 1 second after.. cant tell you how many great shots ive missed because of this
LED Notification!
finally we get to have an LED notification. with my SGSII ive had to use BLN, and if you know anything about BLN, youll know it rapes your battery. no more choosing between notification or battery life.
Processor
while ive never felt a lag with my SGSII processor, the one area that can always be improved in browser speed. this is the biggest thing quadcore will affect. and a faster browser means a happier me. it will also increase battery life, since ill be spending less time waiting for pages to load.
Support
while its debatable other phones (which will not be named lol) may pose a serious threat, nobody has support like a Galaxy phone. Devs are all over Galaxy phones, and with people like supercurio spreading his voodoo goodness, and Team Hacksung adding their custom AOSP roms, we have lots to look forward to.
New Software Features
while these will probably be ported to the SGSII, its safe to assume theyll work a lot smoother on the phone theyre intended for.
Battery Life
im not sure if well actually see improved battery life, as my SGSII has the 2000MAh extended battery, but im hopeful new hardware will be less energy demanding.
LED Light
yes i said LED Light, i can tell you my SGSII has the brightest light ive seen on any mobile, and i currently own the HTC One X, and the LED is very weak. i use my phone as a flashlight all the time, and my SGSII reads just over 90 lumens using my LUX Meter. i expect the SGSIII will have the same LED, i doubt it will have weaker, and i am hopeful it will have better. (if anyone knows let me know)
NFC
i dont know if ill ever have a chance to use this in the US, but i LOVE the idea of using my phone as a creditcard. like something out of an anime! (any Eden of the East fans out there?)
Something New
im very happy with my phone, but its nice to treat myself to something new every once in a while. god knows we all could use it. it seems the SGSIII will be an improvement in every area of the SGSII
If that picture was a real SGS III....
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Minor correction to the first post - the S3 isn't the first to use Apt-X. The Razr and the One X both have it (as does the iPad3 and several of Apple's computers).
Screen
I don't really think a jump from 720 to 1080 is really going to be that noticable on a smallish screen like what the SGS III will have. I don't tend to look at my device under a magnifying glass. Though on a tablet it would definitely make it sharper.
Camera
Xenon flash would be nice, but it was a bit much to hope for. It will be a step up from my Evo 3D, HTC screwed up the camera on that device. Mp doesn't make a difference if it is a good chip.
Processor
I have my Evo 3D on a custom ROM overclocked and it is running really smoothly. Two extra cores is nice, but the right processor will do right if it is a dual core. I won't be too disappointed if we don't end up with the Exynos here in the states as long as the chip is comparable.
Support
I'm looking forward to an SGS and getting good support from devs. My Evo 3D has been a hassle...
Software
Looking forward to the interesting opportunities with the voice control. I don't care too much for Touchwiz, but there are other launchers that can be used (plus custom ROMs.)
Battery
Newer hardware does tend to be less stressful on the battery even if it is more powerful. I manage my radios well so I'm not too worried, though I am a bit concerned about how the voice control will work with that. I'm not sure if I like the idea of my phone waiting to hear me say Hi Galaxy! because that seems like it might drain the battery.
All in all I'm ready to go up to the Sprint store and tell them to take my money. I was kind of hoping to see a ceramic body, though I am ok with the design they came up with. Looking forward to the AMOLED screen and the decent combination of hardware.

With that statement alone it shows you didn't read the rules of XDA, and why your supposed to post in existing threads about the same topic, and how posting multiple threads of the same BS just clutters and makes it harder to find information. can i ask, why are you even in the SGS3 section if youre not here to gossip? the phone isnt even out yet, so clearly youre not here to get support. everyone whos here is here because they want to share their personal opinions, chitchat, gossip, convince themself to get the phone, or try and convince themself not to. nobody is here for development, troubleshoot, or get support of any kind, so if seeing other humans interact is offsetting you like it is, i suggest you come back after May, when the phone is actually released. till then well continue to talk about the pentile display, if the camera is any good, is the sgs3 better than the htc one, and whatever the h3ll else we feel like. so you sir can have a nice day, and let us have ours.
My reason is because I will get more re-sale value of my SGS2 now than in 6 months time (Nexus) or 12 months time (SGS4).

Um, his concern isn't with chat/gossip/whatever over the phone, he's annoyed with all the individual topics bring created starting out with "why I chose/ordered the sgs3" or "why I hate the sgs3." It's called forum etiquette 101.
The point is... when there are already nearly IDENTICAL topics, post there instead of starting a brand new one just to stay a new topic. Helps to keep the General section somewhat manageable enough to navigate.

It seems like people tend to forget things that aren't specs! I think the current processors are fast enough, and the updates are minor (SD800 vs SD801), so we should wait for 64-bit to see a jump perfomance wise.
The recent picture leaks reveal new speaker design and more rounded edges on the phone. The screen could be better calibrated. Perhaps better resistance to heat aka longer 4k recording. I think there's quite a bit to work on. Wireless charging?
And we should take in concideration that the Z2 came out some 6 months ago!
May be Z2 will has unique features or better camera sensor or better build quality.
And maybe a higher mp front facing camera.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Of you ask me - that's not enough to call it Z3 but OK...we'll see.
BTW, I think we don't have to wait 808 or 810, S805 will be and would be something you will expect now.
Sony built Z1 with new 800, then they built Z2 with overclocked 800 - S801... What now, they will overclock overclocked 800!?!
They, obviously can't follow 6 months cycle...

i agree there is a lot that could be better on the Z2/Z1 -- it seems that Sony is edging towards a perfect iteration of Xperia Omnibalance. the issue is that the Z3 is really what the Z1 should have been!
also hoping that there will be better speakers (but judging from the size of those speaker holes, not holding my breath), better heat dissipation for 4K, and less chance of self-cracking glass. better camera algorithms for HDR, 20MP automatic, etc.
wireless charging? that would be cool, but i'd rather see Sony get a magnetic charging port that doesn't fall out.
SD805 would have been expected, so that's disappointing. but maybe 32GB/64GB variants?

64-bit performance will be negligible FYI; it's unnecessary for mobile products. Just as a QHD screen is on a ~5 inch device....

The first iteration might not improve the performance much, but it will continue to get better.
Calling it unnecessary for mobile products is making the same mistake as an IBM Senior Engineer did back in '68.
He said "Yeah, microchips, but what... is it good for?", and as you can see microchips are good for plenty of stuff.
Or another example of the same mistake is Ken Olson, President of Digital Equipment Corp, 1977 whom said "There is no reason anyone in the right state of mind will want a computer in their home."
There is always a reason to make better, cheaper, faster and more mobile computers.
Edit:
Oh, I just noticed you have an iPhone 4, that's why you are ignorant.

Your comparisons are so unrelated to the topic at hand that it just blows my mind. You literally just fried my brain with your nonsense. You should have used some car references in there as well to drive your excellent and well thought out point home. If you new a single thing about 64 bit architecture, which you clearly don't, you would know that 64 bit even for computers is questionable.

64 bit SoC's will allow more than 3gb RAM in a phone too, that's probably the more realistic benefit at the minute (IMHO).

I'm considering buying the Z2 now, and it seems it really doesn't matter regarding performance. Am I going to regret not waiting it out?!
OT: I'm assuming the "major" differences are going to be physical and UX. Sony has chosen a bumpy road trying to impress every half year. We really can't expect a revolution each time (and therefore not making the previous model obsolete)

Funny that you didn't have any better argument than "Lol".
But since you think 64bit is unnecessary why are you using 64bit on your computer?
I call it now, your argument is going to be something like "phones are not computers".
It's absolutely true that we don't need or use many things on our PC, phones or tablets...
But that doesn't mean we don't need it, or if you like, it doesn't mean it's not good for industry to grow...
I'm sure I'm not the only one who is not using 100% of any device, that's perfectly normal...
But...
First step will be 64bit architecture then it'll produce less heat, less heat means happy camera users, happy camera users will lead to something else...
That's industry and it's perfectly normal to go forward...
Someone said why QHD screens...well because that will sell devices...
Should they add CRT into Z3 plans?
Yes, we don't need many things but I like to have new and fancy things...
To be honest I don't need 4K recording on my phone but I like to have it
Back to topic...
Totally agree with statement that Sony can't build (not only Sony) and release revolution every six months but it's not cool to sell devices for 1000$, devices that are finished...
Z3 will be finished Z or Z1 - someone said that and I believe that's, sad but, true...

Pure nonsense. I understand meaning of your statements, but this one is just simply not true.
If Sony does refresh their flagship as per EvLeaks tweet, then they're are going to piss off a huge portion of the customer base who bought into the Z2, me included, they seem to be going down the same road that HTC went down, re-releasing minor spec bumped versions of their flagship devices because they didnt cover all angles with the initial devices.
HTC have just won back their customer base and regardless of sales, they have the best Android phone out period, with the M8 they got the formula 100% correct and they are seeing a positive return, Sony has been playing the developers friend and that has opened up doors and they have grown a loyal fan base but they should be careful of this business practice where they do what the did with the Z > Z1.
The life span on a flagship is already down to 11 months maybe and cutting it shorter is going to piss people off and they will take their business elsewhere, while Sony doesnt have the capital expenditure problems that HTC has since Sony is a multi dimentional corporation but this 6 months refresh cycle with see them run at a loss in the long run.
I'm happy with my Z2 and would love for it to be the top dog till the next Mobile World Congress.

Haha...you shouldn't take everything so serious...take a deep breath and remember... We are on forum, not in North Korea...
Everyone has right to day what he/she thinks it's right...
If you really understood what I wanted to say, you won't be writing something like that...
I actually know what I'm saying and don't need to ask Google for opinion.
BTW - don't take everything from Google and wiki for granted...
I just simplified long statement....
If you want or need long version why it would lead to "cooler" cpu and device I'll write that for you...
I'm not talking about higher frequencies, I'm talking about new and better architecture and benefits.
And yeah...It's not problem in cpus, it's problem in OS (to add more RAMs)...
But one lead to other and it'll eventually lead to faster devices, powered with better chipsets, more RAM and less heat...
That all ends with happier users, or grumpy ones, like you...

Seems all these phone companies are just greedy these days, rushing out different models!. The z2 ain't been out for 5 minutes! photo's on a leaked z3 is ridiculous. They shouldn't be allowed to bringft these flagship phones with minor updates so quickly!?

I think it is going back...

Got my OP5 yesterday, just used it for less than a day but I think I am returning it... The following are the issues I have:
1. Wifi hotspot not working with Echo Dot. It can connect but can't play any music.
2. Battery life is not at all impressive... I started using it this morning at around 8am, and by noon it's down to 50%... That's my normal usage... kind of disappointing.
3. Picture quality not impressive... and don't like the camera app that much. Also saw that 4K video is very shaky without OIS.
So, maybe hang on to it for a few days before sending it back... Who else is returning?
BTW, what is the best way to ship it back (from San Diego to LA, I suppose)? I assume I need to pay for return shipment, and I probably want to have insurance to cover the cost of the device...
Contact OP to arrange a return. I have read on the forums that someone has already done this, and OP arranged a return label for the buyer.

What phone did you use prior to OP5?
I think #1 will be resolved. #2 may need a little more time to determine battery longevity. 24-48 is not enough.
Camera will probably get better. Video on 4k is a lost cause. TBH, 4k on any phone camera right now is not worth it. Buy a real camera for solid 4k footage.

I come from Moto X Pure, need to charge the phone every now and then even when it is new, and recently the battery is dying, I just have someone replaced it and now it's working fine. I will play with it a few more days, but the hotspot thing I am using it daily so it's troublesome, and don't know when or if it will be fixed. The weird thing is that I could tether my ipad to it and get Youtube and stuff alright.
Haven't gotten mine yet but have a question on the hotspot issue. Is this the normal hotspot that you would share your connection with say a tablet ECT? or something different? I use my hotspot everyday mon-fri to watch vids on my tablet during lunch. is that functionally working? or is the problem just with the echo dot?
also just my 10 cents on the 4k video. I'm not a YouTube vlogger and have no need to do anything in 4k so that is a non-issue for me. And like said above, 24 hours it not enough for a battery test.
I came from a OP3, and might be sticking with it to be honest. Prior to my OP3, I had a LG G2 (D802).
If I do send the OP5 back, I might be considering the LG G6.
My order still hasn't been despatch, and we are now into day 3 passed the despatch date (as my order despatch date was/estimated for 23rd June!)

The issue is very peculiar, affect only the Echo Dot, otherwise it seems ok. However my old phone Moto X Pure has no problem tethering my Echo Dot... I would think the WiFi Hotspot is a standard feature of the OS...

I like the fingerpint sensor in the front... LG G6 has it in the back. Actually the OP5 is very good in that regards, fingerprint sensor on home button, and then capacitive buttons for back and recent, saving some screen space, so although it's 5.5 inch, effectively it is comparable to my 5.7 inch Moto X Pure....
Just installed another system update... let me use it for a couple more days and see if I change my mind...
Got mine Saturday, I like it so far, only thing I will say is the edge from glass to frame doesn't seem smooth. I don't know if it's my phone of if they are all like it though.

You do know there is a screen protector on it right and the screen is only 2D not 3D and I believe everyone's it like that it should look like the screen is a little bit tucked in the frame

Yes the screen protector doesn't cover the whole glasss and it's the bit from the edge of glass to frame that just isn't smooth like the OP3T I have. It's almost like the glass is sunk too far in to the frame causing a slight lip to it.
I'm deciding whether or not to RMA mine; I am coming from OP 3 and the change isn't that large to warrant 589.00$ so far. I'll decide tomorrow.
I kind of like my OP5. But I come from OPO,s quite an update for me.
I'm slightly surprised a few OP3 owners have upgraded to the OP5. Apart from the camera, I just can't see the reason for upgrading. Its not as if the OP3 is slow, has bad support or has a major hardware issue.
To the OP3 owners who have upgraded. Is there really that much difference? Is the difference worth the money?

I do not even see the need to upgrade for the camera.
Sure, a wider aperture sounds better in lowlight and the second sensor with zoom and portrait mode is a nice addition.
But apart from the camera reviews (some don't even sound that good), all comparison shots on the OP3 look as good, sometimes even better than the OP5. The sensor has the same size, so we still see the same slow shutter-speed in lowlight which will cause more blur due to handshake and the missing OIS. Even in daylight (especially with HDR) I've seen shots which were heavily postprocessed waterpaintings because of handshake.
This device certainly has less value for money compared to the OP3 back then. It's still affordable, but you basically get what you pay for.
If Samsung e.g. built a device with the same specs, it would probably not cost that much more after a short period of time.

I had issues connecting PS3 controller to phone, I couldn't get it to work nor via BT nor via USB. It seems that they not included some drivers in OP5 kernel, so I installed first available custom kernel which seems to have all standard drivers and now I have no problems connecting PS3 controller via BT and USB. That may be can solve your problem too and other problems related to connecting to external devices.

Yea, I compared 3T and 5 photos and 3T has way more details even in low light. OP5 details are all watercolored. I see no point in upgrading from OP3T. But as I come from Galaxy S4 I will probably keep mine OP5.
Coming from the oneplus 3 I can honestly say it's an improvement, loving the oneplus 5.
