[Q] Nexus S owners, convince me to get this phone! - Nexus S General

Hi Nexus S owners,
So am I am torn between the Xperia Arc, or Nexus S as my next phone.
I want to know some real stories here, what do you love about the nexus S, what is not so great?
I made a list of pros and cons of the device, tell me if there is anything I should add
Pros:
seems very stable
updates delivered in a timely fashion
no bloatware
fast
larger internal memory (than Arc)
Cons:
only 16GB storage
camera is not as nice as the Arc
Here are some things I would like to know:
Is there better camera software in the app store that may improve the stock camera?
How is the screen in bright daylight?
In my head, I am leaning towards this phone, mostly because of the lack of carrier/manufacturer "bloatware", and the fact that I will get updates straight from Google whenever they come out. But the main thing that is holding me back is the camera. I am a photographer, and always like to have a camera with me. I can't always carry my DSLR, so I need something that can function as a half decent P&S.

You should get whatever you want, I'm not going to try to convince you. But I will answer your questions
Camera software: Vignette is the best on the market. It takes fantastic uncompressed pictures and improves ANY camera hardware in my opinion.
Sunlight: I have never seen another phone that is as readable in the sunlight as the Nexus S. The SAMOLED is tailor-made for this. It's miles ahead of any other screen technology when it comes to sunlight visibility. It's one of the strongest features of the Nexus S.

Thanks!
I am merely looking for real user experiences. I still need to go to the store to play around with both of the phones.
Thats good to hear about the sunlight visibility. How do you find the camera on the nexus s? Does the vignette app add touch to focus?

Yes it adds touch to focus
I have the SLCD screen on the Nexus S, I've never seen a screen this amazing. It's fantastic in broad daylight, actually, it doesn't even matter in where you use it, it's always legible.
The camera is good, for a 5MP it's really good. It has no digital zoom though, beware, some people want that feature

The camera is very good. It takes better photos than any other mobile device I have owned (2nd would be Evo 4G which was not bad at all).
Your idea to go play with the phones is a good one. I was only mildly interested in the Nexus S until I was at Best Buy one day and they had one and I got to hold it. There was no turning back. I knew then there was no other phone in the world for me

the version here in canada is the AMOLED one. Digital zoom is not an issue at all
My current phone is a SE C905a, w/ 8mp camera. Camera is a big deal to me, but from what I have seen in reviews, it's not too bad. I even compared the camera's on gsmarena between the arc and the nexus s, and they seem comparable. Minus the fact that the Arc has 720p video

well, despite of low specs, camera is really good, i can't compare with arc camera, but i'm coming from a desire hd (what was announced as best android camera by that time) and i prefer nxs camera, mainly because shots in dark places that is way better, but also, camera in DHD is mostly for still life, because it blur with any movement.
16gb is enought for me, (i used to have 8gb in my dhd it was never full), and now, with google music, the decision must be based in your data plan, if you have an "unlimited" one, you have no problem at all! Said that, i can tell you: what is avalaible for storage is only 13,3gb, don't ask me why.
about screen sunligh, i can't help you, since i have a 9023 (with slcd).
another thing: i really think you should get both in your hand and decide, most things are not in specs lists, they are in how you fell with the phone. eg, i really hate 'haptic feedback' in nexus s and i loved in DHD and that is a thing i can't know without get it in my hand.
and some more things, nexus is a pretty device, looks nice with the screen off, all black, like a monolith. the cuverd screen is really beautiful (besides let it good upon your face).
BUT, the main reason i bought it is to escape of the "race for the best device of the week"... you know what i mean.
sorry for typos and bad engrish! =o)

I got this phone cuz it's Google Nexus series.
There are of course better phones out right now like the Galaxy S2 i believe with dual core or what not. When I got my NS last December, it was a pretty good phone, but if you keep holding out for something better, you'll never buy anything.

You definitly got a point. A recently cleaned Nexus S is almost a guaranteed buy (or sell, whatever pov ). One of the best looking phones while in stand-by.
--
If you care about getting the latest android within a few days after being released, NxS is the only option. Beside that and the pretty looks I think Arc and NxS are pretty much on the same level. If you can't decide because of looks or the immediate updates, compare the price, still no winner, flip a coin, I think you can't go wrong really between NxS and Arc.

Btw, the non-720p videos (scaled to 720p) shot with NxS look way better then most 720p vids from other smartphones.

Thats good to hear about the camera. It really is one of the few things holding me back from the nexus s vs the arc.
I do care about the updates, it seems SE has been doing better since the whole thing with the X10. But who knows how long that will last!
I love the looks of both phones. They are totally different looks wise, but both appeal to me. I think making these threads is actually making the decision harder for me! lol, I thought for sure I was going to get the arc, now I am on the fence again...

Worst thing to do when you bought a technical device. The moment the money has been spend stop looking for alternatives/replacements, that's a vicious circle

I know!
I think I am going to go tomorrow to play with both phones, I still have a week or so until I can get either one...I am becoming obsessive..

Don't make the MISTAKE I did...choose the Nexus S for the love of GOD. Do NOT buy the Arc.
I walked into a Rogers Store thinking I knew how the Arc would handle and feel, playing with a dummy phone WRONG. I bought the thing cash for $700 after tax and a $19 case.
I go home, fire it up and instant regret.
I will list everything wrong with the phone in my opinion:
1. Multitouch is retarded. When you try it out go into gallery and try to pinch to zoom around pics...it will not behave correctly.
2. If you can access the browser, go to a web site that allows you to pinch to zoom and just set your finger tips on the screen motionless...watch as the screen vibrates and goes crazy.
3. Screen is too thin and long. I found typing to be really bad, and SE removed speach to text from the Arc stock keyboard. Also the Arc keyboard is not multitouch.
4. The build quality is much worse than the Nexus S. The back door creeks and makes noises almost everywhere you touch it.
5. The screen IMO looks washed out, but sharp.
6. On 3 bars I dropped a call 5 times in the same call! WTF is that?
7. Arcs screen SUCKS. Its mineral glass with a thick plastic "shatter proof film" on it that not only gets scratched up too fast, but makes the screen a finger print, smudgy mess. Horrible.
Anyways the Arc is so bad I actually took my Arc (that I just had dropped $700 on 2 days before) and traded it for a used/mint Nexus S and I could not be happier. My only regret is that I did not buy the Nexus S first.
Sure the Arc has some nice features like HDMI out (I found useless really) and it does Video nice (I find the Nexus S takes better pics personally)
Go Nexus S or you'll be sorry...I can PROMISE you that...

Wow, this kind of things is always in the back of my mind when thinking about either one.
Do you think it was the firmware you were using? Not saying you are wrong, but just wondering.
The camera thing intrigues me, on the gsmarena camera compare tool, the nexus s did look a little better at 100% crop. Check it out.
The arc seems to be fuzzier, there is a loss of detail in the 100% crop.......
I will check all that stuff out when I go to physically use the phones, hopefully today.

I hesitated and I finally went with the NS. Reasons:
Unlocked bootloader means custom ROMs
Always up to date software
Fast smooth UI with no carrier or OEM crap on it. I'll load my own crap thank you very much.
This phone will be useable long after SE ditches support for the Arc and relegates it to the scrap heap.

I don't think you will regret it.. the general attitude I see, and share, is that once you own a Nexus device you really don't want to own anything else. I came from an Epic 4G for example, so the hardware between that and my Nexus S 4G are literally identical. However, the Nexus S runs circles around the Epic which is crippled with the TouchWiz framework.
You really just can't beat AOSP the way Google intended.

iPhone 4........its a joke!

Hi guys.
Havnt been here for about 2 weeks coz I recently had my upgrade and i upgraded to the iPhone 4! Ok, dont start flaming.
I was torn between the galaxy s or the iPhone and thought, what the hell, i have already used WinMo, Symbian and Android but never had an iPhone, so thought lets see what its all about. Guess what? I actually hate it!!!
Ok, so there some things on it that do work better than WinMO such emails, and maybe the appstore is better than marketlace, but overall, its just so boring!!!! I have jailbroken it aswell but its still nothing like our favourite WinMo.
I havent and never will get rid of my HD2, infact, i still carry it with me to work and still play around with it. I even show off the HD2 more to my colleuges(sp ) than the iPhone(coz its boring).
Man, its so easy to just drag n drop files, music, pics etc on our HD2s but with the iPhone.....its such a long procedure that i only have a few of each on it!!
So, the point is, that I didnt miss much (nor anyone) by not having an iPhone and probably will never miss anything coz winmo, in a nutshell, is way better!
But i am now stuck with this.I might even change my sims around and make my HD2 the primary device again and stick my PAYG sim in the iPhone.....as a back up!
I just wanted to share my experience so please guys, dont start flaming!
I haven't had any experience with the iPhone 4, but I can say the same is true from me with the last iPhone. I bought one last month just to play around with, and it actually seemed a little boring compared to my HD2 and my Android phones. It does certain things better, and some of the apps such as the Chase Bank app are the reason I wont get rid of it, but other things just seem complicated compared to the HD2. I hate having to connect to iTunes for every damn thing. I have my HD2 synced with iTunes, but on a number of occasions I just click and drag photos and music onto it. Its very convenient.

Has anyone tried or own the Galaxy S (UK)? Is it worth me selling the iPhone for it?
Bigger screen, super AMOLED, Android, Hummingbird processor.......... probably can choose my own ringtone too! .......

Looks - very sexy
Feel - very good build
Speed - ok......could be a bit faster though.
User friendlyness - Not really
retina display- To be honest.......i dont see much difference really. Im starting to feel it was just a sales technique! Nothing magical about it.
Web surfing- actually pretty good, quite fast.....but screen too small!
Videos- watched "2012" on it.....looks ok.Again, nothing magical. But, Youtube video quality isnt the best even on wifi. Can not beat HD2!
Photos - Got to admit, is very good. Inc the camera.
Volume - Personally, i find the system volume too low. Sometimes i miss new messages and email
Emails- better than WinMo ( i know, hate to admit it!)
Messaging - couldvr been better if we could threaded or not.
Eye Candy? - Nope....unlike the HD2
Personalising/customising - should i even bother?
Annoyingness- Magically Unlimited!
I played with the T-Mobile Vibrant yesterday, and to be honest I dont think I would trade my HD2 in for one. The phone was pretty cool, but I was not really impressed by the screen. It did seem pretty responsive, but the major drawback to that phone was it felt so cheap. It was really thin and light, but it felt like I could easily break it if I dropped it. Its still a nice phone though.
@ rumz82 someone has smeared a Iturd on your sig please remove it lol

Friend jut got an iPhone 4 too and I've been playing with it... The screen is good, indeed can't distinguish the pixels even from close... but IMO it's such that it feels a bit "artificial" on photos. It displays web sites at full width, but the HD2 does that too. And while when doing it even the smallest text is still readable thanks to the resolution, it's so small you'd need to have your phone 4 inches from the eyes. If that's the revolution...
All in all, I'll take the HD2's larger screen any day. So much more comfortable in actual use.
There are cool things though. Especially the camera is very very good. UI is even more smooth, and everything just works, no reboots, no hacking around etc. I really like the new hardware, but it would just need to have the HD2's screen.
Still might pick one up for some time tho, even if that means selling it again after a couple of months, seeing how these things sell like hot cakes and are sold out everywhere it wouldn't be too much of a loss.
nice thread here
DN41
About 3 weeks before the release of the iPhone 4 I read all the new press releases and decided I wanted to replace my HD2 with one. A lot of friends have the 3GS and they look like a lot of fun. I had the original iPhone and the 3G for a few months.
I pre-ordered 2 32gig iPhone 4's... one for me and one for my fiancee.
The release date arrived and the pair of them were delivered to my work.
I opened my one and started playing. I downloaded some of the apps / games that I'd seen friends playing with that had made me want an iPhone in the first place. From the start before anyone had mentioned signal issues, I had a poor signal.
My fiancee saw my iPhone and decided she wanted to wait for a white one - so I immediately put hers on eBay. A nice sale of £962 - and I sent it to South Africa!
I got it on the Thursday afternoon, and I took it into my local Apple store on the Sunday about the dreadful reception - and that it had a random bit of plastic sticking out of the screen. The 'genius' tried cutting it off, and then replaced it.
At my work, my HD2 gets a 3-4 bar 3G signal. The iPhone got an 'O' signal - which is the worst possible. My main use of a smartphone is having decent internet at work - and using this O connection was hopeless. This was the same whether I had the phone on the desk or in my hand. My workmate has a 3GS and when the 2 sat next to each other on the table, his (same network) had 3 bars of 3G and mine had 2-3 bars of O.
I carried on for a few more days, and eventually finished Angry Birds!! Once that was done, I struggled to find anything worth using the phone for. I noticed on the Saturday (6 days of owning my seconds one) that it had a big scratch on the screen and a couple of small ones - despite it being in a soft case all the time, So much for the scratch proof glass!
The proximity sensor wasn't working properly, so on Sunday (a week of ownership) I went back to the Apple store again, and the genuis gave me a third one.
Fearing it would scratch again, I ordered a Zagg full housing skin for it - and went back to using my HD2 again. I left the iPhone 4 for 2 days - then decided I didn't really want it anymore! The signal was useless at work - and wasn't much better at home (where I use WiFi anyway).
I stuck it on eBay at night with a Buy It Now of £995 - and in the morning it was sold. Sent it to Finland this time!
Now I'm back to my HD2. I had decided I would buy something else with my iPhone 4 profits (just over £650 after eBay / PayPal fees) - but after a bit of looking around I decided my HD2 is as good as anything else out there.
Yes, the iPhone is easier to use in that the touch screen works much better. The typing works much better on the iPhone with the spell check and predictive text. The new screen DOES look amazing and watching movies on the screen was great. Apple have finally made their phone include all the things that have been missing over the last few generations... but it is still lacking some stuff. If the signal had been decent at work, then I may have held on to it... but I'd have kept my HD2 for my bought WinMo apps. I really liked the size - it was just that fraction smaller than the HD2 which made it sit slightly better in my pocket. The battery life also seemed to be better in the iPhone 4.
As the white iPhone seems to be on an endless promise - my fiancee got a Sony Ericcson Xperia X10 Mini Pro today... and is very happy with it so far. I've had a play with it and it seems to be a very nice 'little' phone. If they make a slightly bigger one with a decent screen resolution it might be worth considering.

if you can't use your smartphone cause of NO 3G reception (while you should have reception) what's the use of a smartphone ? i heared all the rumors about the reception problem @ iphone4 but that it would be that bad in real life usage ?? EPIC FAIL!! and that for a phone prized like a gold plated pearfone 4000..(at least that you would expect for a phone with no use ;P
In the netherlands we call it the aaiphone Translation: the caressphone, please don't grab me to hard or else suffer reception loss/call drops xDthe wordplay is funnier in dutch though

That is one of the disappointing aspects of the iPhone 4 besides no doubling of storage to 64gb for music. I skipped the iPhone 3G so I skip the iPhone 4 because the next iPhone will be better. I don't understand why it sells so much

Not quite!
£995 + £962 = £1957
The iPhones COST £599 each - so take £1198 off that = £755.
My PayPal / Final Value fees must've been about £100 in total - as the listing cost was about £1.30!

Bottomline
GS3
Better Photos in regular lighting, and better color reproduction
Better Audio
Better Video
Better Speaker
Better GPU/CPU
Better Battery Life
Better Software
Better Gorilla Glass
Better Screen
+ Removable Batteries
+ SD Card Support
HOX
Better Photos in Low Light
More Instagram like filters...
Better Looks (They say, but this is subjective even in this picture above the GS3 looks much better personally)
More at GSM Arena
EDIT: Made some changes and corrections
I expected as much.
I believe that the key point here is that all of those differences you've listed are marginal in most areas, but having a high quality feeling and good looking phone is very important to me.
Unless those differences were huge (let's face it, they aren't), I'm struggling to look past the One X for myself.
The amount of times I'll pick up my phone and enjoy the feel of it absolutely blow away the zero times I'll care about the camera being 1% better or the phone loading a web page 000.1 second quicker.
Why can't Samsung use some intelligent designers? They really are clueless at this stuff. They've managed to make TouchWiz look even worse as well, despite adding some nice features.
+
Better Storage
Removable Battery
Just read it
SGS3 is amazing
It's way way better than the HOX
haters gonna hate, where are everyone now?
GS III is purely awesome
The battery life test here is what is the most interesting. AMOLED screens use up more power than LCDs at bright colours, so it's expectable to see the S3 have only a slight margin over the HOX. The video test is the most interesting one; that's just pure obliteration beyond the 300mAh advantage. Expect the device to have on average a much better screen-on time than even that that if you optimize for the AMOLED screen, Samsung's default skin isn't quite nice in that regard. So much for Nvidia's +1 core.
This thing is proven again and again this year's best goes for samsung !! No more pointless discussion on which is the best.
GS3
So the GS3 won in Performance, Display, Battery Life, Sound Quality, Camera, Memory and most other things, in other words it mopped the floor with the One X, HTC fans are not going to like this,
Something else im impressed by is the Galaxy S2's performance in the benchmarks and Camera, absolutely incredible for a device released over a year ago, Samsung built an absolute masterpiece there.

Lol I was reading that and I thought it's either deja vu or I've read it before
Well colour me impressed Samsung, gonna be hard deciding between the two... still don't like Touchwiz though (tried it on an ICS S2) let's see if the newer version is good enough.
Always loved touchwiz, even tho i have an P990, im sure any software issue can be fixed eventually, im more concerned about the physical issues that it may bring.

To me the home screen flinging didn't really respond to my touch, as in no matter how fast my finger moves, once I lift it it glides at its own pace. It's not very satisfying. Or maybe it was just my friend's phone that's like that...
About the defects (if that's what you mean) all phones will have some when they launch. I wait a couple months for them to iron things out.
It is extreme subjective. I have hold my buying decision when One X launched and waited for the announcement of SGS3. I still prefer SGS3 to HOX for switchable battery and microsd. They are with the same surface material. Sense UI may be better and I get used to it for years. Just wait for the arrival in my place to buy SGS3.
This is obviously a hot topic in the One X forum also. Here's what I posted there. Keep in mind I'm deciding between the two after a week or so with the SGS3. I also came from a i9100 and have a 3G UK G-Tab 10.1 so I'm no one's fanboi.

Hmm, not really. The closing of the article summed it up best...
"Anyway, back to where we started. Two superphones, one Android crown. The HTC One X managed to come to the market first, while the Galaxy S III is a little late, but has plenty to show for it. We're tempted to play it safe and split it equal. The HTC One X: this is what a droid flagship should look like. The Samsung Galaxy S III: that's what a droid flagship should perform like. But that won't be fair to either of them. They didn't get where they are by playing it safe.
It seems obvious that the Samsung Galaxy S III wouldn't have raised as the new standard-setter without a powerful challenger like the One X. There's no consolation prize here, no second-best. A fair fight and a win-win for Android."
Some other things that struck me as relevant...
"The HTC One X is encased in a polycarbonate unibody (Gray or Black), which is matte in appearance and pleasant to the touch. The Samsung Galaxy S III is covered in glossy plastic (with Blue brushed metal look or pure white), which is durable, but not quite as nice to hold. We're not impressed by its looks either.
"On the other hand, Samsung's design allows you to change the battery allowig you to use a spare one to extend battery life or replace an old burnt-out battery with a fresh new one. Oh, and there's a microSD card slot too. Not that HTC couldn't have put a card slot into the One X, they just decided that 32GB should be enough for everyone (and it probably is)."
"Of course, not all of them are deciders. The S-Voice is a direct take on Siri, but it really fails to live up to expectations, while the NFC-based media sharing over S Beam has limited application for now. Pop-up play will rarely be used while Buddy photo share borders on useless."
So what does it come down to? Personal preference.
1) Is a removable battery and SD card slot important? Buy the SGS3.
2) Is design, construction, and feel in the hand important? Buy the One X.
3) Is low light picture and video important? Buy the One X.
4) Are more detailed pictures in bright light important? Buy the SGS3.
5) Do you like the vivid (I'm being kind) colors of AMOLED? Buy the SGS3.
6) Do you like a brighter, non-PenTile display, with more accurate color and better detailing? Buy the One X.
7) Want a better browsing experience and more audio and video codec support? Buy the SGS3.
8) Are you an avid gamer that'll be pushing the CPU and GPU regularly? Buy the SGS3.
9) Do you like TouchWiz? Buy the SGS3.
10) Do you like Sense? Buy the One X.
11) Do you listen to lossless audio over $300+ headphones or a home system that cost several thousand dollars? Pick the SGS3.
There's other differences that may matter to people but those are the main ones. I knew the SGS3 would benchmark better than the One X when I bought it. The reality is, as it stands today, the power of Teg3, S4, and Exynos-Quad are wasted because the OS and apps aren't able to tap their power. Other than bragging rights you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart performance wise; they'll "feel" the same.
My views on the main features...
1) I like the LCD2 display on the One X. After using AMOLED for a year the realistic colors, the lighter look because black backgrounds aren't used to save battery, and increased display brightness are all nice for a change.
2) The One X camera h/w is better than the SGS3's. It shows in low light settings. I'm hoping s/w tuning in future updates makes it a better all-around performer. I wouldn't ditch the One X over the camera as they don't strike me as that dramatically different from each other.
3) Audiophiles probably never considered the One X once it was announced that the SGS3 has a Wolfson DAC. An audiophile would cut off their arm before listening to compressed formats like MP3's or on anything less than high grade equipment. That makes 95% of us “non-audiophiles.” And a real audiophile would question the use of something like a smartphone as an audio output device anyway.
4) Did anyone who bought the One X not know in advance it had fixed storage and a non-replaceable battery? I'd like those features; I think anyone would. But I really like the design of the One X and if it had to look like the SGS3 in order to have them I'd pass.
5) Other than the graphics issues which are big, the One X's launch has been pretty typical from a QC perspective. I'll bet anyone here the SGS3 launch looks the same (sans graphics issues) and that display consistency will be one of the biggest *****es on their forum. The SGS2 and GN launches were far from great.
So, the short answer to OP's question, nothing in that review has changed my opinion of the One X. Look at it this way, the SGS2 crushed the Sensation. In less than a year HTC launched a phone that made GSMArena consider splitting the win. That alone is pretty impressive. Of course, YMMV and I clearly don’t expect everyone to agree with some of my comments.

I stopped posting on the one x section, after they started calling me a troll. I don't know what exactly a troll is but I posted on 3 threads with with the words "galaxy" on the title. Im not going there to start a new thread or whatever and never have. Now that the dust has settled, lets be the bigger man.
In my own opinion these guys don't realize just how many of us have mp3 collections we want to pack on our phones. Not having the ability to get my mp3s on board makes the htc piece a non starter all by itself unless it can offset this by having an apk that makes naked supermodels spill out its guts on command.

They've managed to make TouchWiz look even worse as well, despite adding some nice features.

differences were not huge you say?
have you seen the video comparisons?htc's looked pale as compared to sgs3's.
and the most important thing that everyone waited and wanted to know was the battery life.
"here's a curious little detail about what people are saying that amoleds use more power when displaying whites compared to other screen displays.
"The two flagships were less convincing in the browser endurance test. The HTC One X shut down just 4 hours and 18 minutes into the test and the Galaxy S III went on for 5 hours and 17 minutes. We were actually rather surprised that the S III came out on top here, knowing how badly the predominantly white web pages treat AMOLEDs.""
"Audio quality
The Samsung I9300 Galaxy s III turned out to be one of the most talented musicians around and managed to edge out the One X in the audio output quality test."
not huge difference my ...
This seems to be nearly flawless victory or smackdown (for the SIII, except screen and body imo), the photo sensor even trump the iPhone 4S. Glad to see the the audio quality is decent, that is a big factor for me.
I still don't understand Samsung decision to not use 5x5 icon rows in the home screen.

Maybe it's time to move on...

(Not sure whether this should be posted in Q&A as this topic is not quite related to questions about the arc.)
I've had my arc for, what... 13 months now. The warranty expired about a moth ago. I'm not really the type to change my phones often as I'm not your typical rich arse. My arc, as my tapatalk signature may propose, is quite cracked (I posted pics in another thread) and I doubt I could get a good price for it. But that aside. I'm here to ask you about which phone I should buy next.
My needs have become quite... needy (lol). I have quite a few apps running constantly in the background plus add the widgets on homescreen to that and sometimes a needy foreground app (which basically kills all my other apps). I can't even run the Walkman app for longer time because it just gets killed in the memory for some reason (if I turn off my screen). And sometimes all my apps start closing/restarting, including my launcher, for I don't know what reason. Sometimes my phone is so unresponsive that it's ridiculous. I couldn't answer a call today because the phone app was killed in memory (lol). You might say there's something wrong with the ROM I'm running or something else. Maybe ICS is not the best choice and more of a downgrade on arc if there's some heavier multitasking. But for me, downgrading to GB is just a no-go. Maybe I should give the JB a shot. But doubt that do much of a difference to me.
Don't get me wrong. I like my arc. It's got a very good design (awesomely crappy housing quality aside) It's probably pretty good with a moderate multitasking on GB. But I just feel like I need some more power. And I'm not talking about quads here. A phone with 1GB of RAM and a dual core would probably be more than enough for me. (though today such phones are quite outdated, haha)
So what would you recommend? I'll just help you out a bit and say that there's no way I'd go with a Samsung phone. Also, it has to be Android (no WP, iOS, Bada, and whatever else there is). And expandable memory is a must, as well. Might add something more if I remember.

Do you want to stick with Sony or will you consider other brands as well? There's a lot of good high end phones from LG, HTC and whatnot (I'll exclude Samsung in this case). Sony did announce three new phones today at IFA (Xperia T, V and J) which retain the arc-like design if you're willing to wait. And there's the Xperia S, P & U, but I'd personally pass on those with what's coming out and what is out right now.
It's really hard to recommend one phone tbh; play around with whatever you can and buy the one that you like best.

I'm considering other brands as well. Though I have to admit that Sony retains the look and uniqueness, while for instance HTC phones all look quite the same. But I'm willing to bare with the not so unique HTC style if the housing quality is good. But there is one thing with Sony phones that kind of makes me step away and ask myself if I really want to get one again. And that's the screen glass. The arc's screen glass is literally scratch un-resistant. Sometimes the fact just annoys the heck out of me. In comparison to HTC Desire HD, the screen glass of my arc is really horrible. I'm starting to like HTC, whether I liked that fact or not.

Then get Xperia go
Its supposed to be ultra resistant, and its dual core 1GHz.
I can't really advise you which phone to get, because I don't know you screen size preference and budget.
If its in your budget i would recommend a Galaxy Nexus.
1 - Latest android updates
2 - Good Design
3 - High Durability
Just a recommendation
Wait a little........maybe for the google sony nexus.
If it's not coming i'm jumping ship to nexus anyway.

Ah, should've added some more info to the OP. But really it was 3 am or something like that and I was already half asleep (lol). I don't need it to be ultra resistant. I won't be throwing it around. I just need it to be of "normal" resistance. Dropped my boyfriend's phone (Desire HD) a couple of times, it also went flying and fell on the floor and all the things that might happen when your hands are not really that steady. It got no scratches and it took no damage to the housing. While if I did the same to my arc... well, uhm... it would probably shatter all around the place, lol.
About the screen size and resolution. Well, anything between 4.2 and 4.5 inches with resolution of the arc or higher. The budget is not very limited as I've saved some money (just don't suggest a golden phone with a couple of diamonds ). I can also get a tax-free product (which would then be the normal price back there in the States... yeah, my country loves to add to the normal price, lol). For an example, the Galaxy S III in free sale (without a contract, not locked to any carrier) is around $840.

Have you removed the fabric pre-applied anti shatter screen protecter? This scrathes easily and I removed mine after 1 year and now I have a perfect glass screen which is super responsive, allmost like a new phone. Never used any screen protecter as I dislike the poor touch sensitivity.
Please try to install the latest SE stock ICS ROM 4.0.4, this has improved significantly. I cannot say anything about the multitasking, never really been an issue, but for stability stock SE ROMS are perfect. Allways used stock ROMS and never missed a call, this is priority number one with high reliability as it is also my work phone. I am confident that Sony engineers very well know how to optimize the software but some here from xda would probably disagree

Yeah, I removed it as I was annoyed by it. But still, the screen just shouldn't get scratches out of the blue (I never put it anywhere where it could get them, and the scratches were already there even before I first dropped my phone). And the housing quality is so poor that I'm literally shocked how they could even sell it for such a price (was around $650 a year ago). And I'm not talking about that tiny little crack everyone complained/complains about (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28003272&postcount=606 - I didn't throw it around for fun to get this "sexy" look, dropped it a couple of times from a very low height).
Well, I don't know about how heavy your multitasking is. I'll tell you what runs on my phone all the time (when the phone is idle, otherwise some or all of these will get killed to make space for a memory hungry app):
AquaMail, IMO messenger beta, Clipper, Color Note, Avast, Nova launcher, BetterBatteryStats, Battery Drain, Volume Control+, Smart Keyboard; widgets: ADW Widget, Aix Weather, UCCW, Elixir 2, Meta widget, stock Browser bookmarks, TuneIn, Minimalistic Text.
Some of them will get killed in memory to make space for something else so not all of them run at the same time (they're mostly in "restarting" state). And now imagine opening an internet browser or a game. What will you get? Instant background app genocide. Even the keyboard dies or freezes.
I think I really need something more.

Might look around some carrier stores to try it out. But I'm not sure whether it has on-screen buttons or capacitive touch buttons. The first one is a minus for me.
EDIT: checked it out. On-screen buttons.
Hmmm, currently. Have the S, and has dropped it so many time, and it still ok. My old arc housing cracks the first time it falls
But my recommendations is get the V or the Arco S.

Stay with SONY, as you won't find better design anywhere. Yes, there are some let-downs from time to time, and yes, the hardware specs are not top-notch, but overall, Xperias are the sexiest smartphones out there, so it's not that painful to sacrifice some performance for the sake of good design and appealing UI...
Also, even we (Xperia phones users) complain a lot about some software and hardware unperfections, the other manufacturers are struggling with these or other things too. There is no perfect phone, believe me. I know that because when I collect all my friends in one place, there is wide range of smartphones on the table, from Iphones, to HTCs, to Samsungs, to SONYs (this would be me), and all of them are having some issues.
From terrible lags, to battery drains, to housing mailfunctions, to this, to that...
And let me be more concrete here... My friends Iphone 3GS is lagging so much that it's ridiculous, and my friend is not advanced or heavy user at all. Few applications here and there. My Arc S feels like warp 9 speed when I use it after his phone. And other friends HTC Evo 3D on ICS is also lagging so much (an dual-core phone, remember), that I don't feel my Arc S on ICS is overperfomed at all by that phone... And battery drain is ridiculous on Evo 3D for example, and picture quality is uncomparable with Arc S, cause we have tested it so many times. And so on, and so on...
The point is, you won't find perfect phone out there, and you won't find so dominant phone, that you'll say, ok SONY is ****, I won't be using it anymore.
I'm tech freak, and I play with alot of smartphones on daily basis, and I would hardly change SONY as my favourite smartphone manufacturer.
And yes, like in your case, Samsung is totally out of question. I would never use such crappy and uninspiring design and UI. Market share means nothing to me, and current two market share dominant smartphone manufacturers are both astronomically overrated, and I would never use them before my Xperias.
If you decide to stay with SONY, there is really wide range of new NXT line Xperias to choose from. From S to P to new Arc successors presented few days ago, T, J and V. I don't know, I just can't resist sexiness of Xperia phones.
Sorry for huge post. Pozdrav iz Sarajeva.
Reading your posts, I'd recommend the LG Optimus 4x HD. It's very fast and reasonable priced compared to the One X and SGS3. The design also shouldn't be too bad. Please look for some reviews and keeps us updated!

Yes, I do know that there is no perfect phone out there and, probably, nor will there ever be one. I have to admit I even thought about buying the One X, but I've read a lot of posts about its horrible battery life. So I moved on and put this one aside on the "maybe" shelf.
I checked out some of the new Sony phones, and was sad to notice the on-screen buttons on most of them (I really dislike such buttons). There are maybe two with the capacitive touch buttons, but one has only 512MB of RAM. The other one, however, is Xperia SL - what's the Arc S to Arc, that's the SL to S - a bit of an upgrade. I pretty much like all the specs, so this one might be one of the candidates.
I don't mind long-ish posts as long as they have something good written in there. Pozdrav i tebi iz Zagreba.

However my white Arc S has broken plastic upper-right and lower-right, if I break it somewhere else again and become annoyed I'll probably buy the cover, 24$ is ok price. Lol I wish there is a metal housing for Arc .
My ex-phone was Motorola Milestone (metal+rubber+hard plastic), on its subforum known as "Chuck Norris's phone", it is literally a tank and now I have to watch out on Arc S cause its plastic is so vulnerable... I have it 1 month and soon it'll look older than 3yo MM :/..
Sunbriel, why not on-screen buttons? Never had problems with them on MM, but they were not literally "on screen" (Galaxy Nexus style), just touch buttons under the screen. I hate physical buttons on Arc S...
@Sunbriel i Mr_Torture, pozdrav iz Splita .
If you have some patience left, wait for new "curvy" Arc-like Xperias to come to our market, as they will probably lower down current NXT Xperias prices. Xperia S or SL or P for example... I know you said you don't like on-screen buttons, but we will all have to deal with it in one moment, when we decide to change our Arcs.
If your bugget allows you, wait for this sexy beast to appear on our market, and go for it:

Just received my Xperia Z - Thinking of swapping it for the HTC One

Heya, I tried to put as much information in the title and although I could easily write a wall of text here I'll try and keep it short and sweet
I was wondering if this type of topic belonged in the Q&A section.. But I believe it is more of a general discussion topic rather than something which can be solved
Please note that I am not asking which is the better phone or trying to start another flame war.. I'm just going to list my thoughts and hope that some of you can share yours!
Baseline facts:
Sony Xperia Z - Unlimited data £26pm (LTE later this year)
HTC One - Unlimited data £28pm (LTE later this year)
So, I received my Xperia Z today and to be completely honest I am not blown away by it at all (Which is actually a first for me as every phone I have ever owned has astounded me in some fashion).
I decided on it due to the overall price and the screen size (bigger is better) thinking that both were evenly matched
Okay, strait to the point.. Here is what's bothering me:
The screen size - Comparing it to my Nexus 4 (With the onscreen buttons hidden) a 4.7" screen is almost identical to a 5" screen with on screen buttons.. So one of the advantages over the HTC One is null
As the HTC one has dedicated buttons
The look - Maybe it's because I had my heart set on the HTC one or maybe its because I fell in love with the curves of the Nexus 4 but.. This just looks like a slab (Covered in fingerprints)
The feel - The phone actually kinda feels sharp / awkward when I hold and use it in one hand
Rooting worries - I've always ended up rooting and flashed every every android phone I've owned.. But I've read some horror stories about losing features (DRM and Bravia Engine). I really don't want to lose these as they are one of the few "WOW" factors this phone has
This is one worry that I'm sure could easily be put to rest by someone here
Battery life - Granted, I have been playing with it for most of the afternoon but it's lost a hell of a lot of battery in a rather short space of time. I'm not usually one to moan about battery life as I routinely charge every night but I need my phone to last all day with mid-heavy use
Notification Lag - Strangely enough while using Google+ auto-backup / instant upload feature my nexus 4 is getting notifications much faster (Minutes) than my Xperia despite the fact that the Xperia is the one uploading (Thus not in deep-sleep). Is this something anyone else is experiencing?
Speaker position - In a word.. Annoying. I've covered it more times than I can count and I've only used it a few times
Internet Lag - It seems to take about 5 seconds to switch from "H" to "H+" and then to start sending / receiving data leaving me staring at a blank page for a while.. Could be an issue with my network but I'm just throwing this out there.
Finally just general factors such as less power (Poorer specs) to the HTC One.. Almost every review site I have seen claims the HTC One is just "Better", even the camera on the HTC One is "Better" according to most of them so the Xperia really falls short on every mark.
Now the reason I posted this here is because I want to hear the opinions of those who actually own an Xperia Z and to get your opinions.. I already know what answer I'd get if I posted this over in the HTC One forums
On a side note I got one of these packaged with my Xperia Z:

It's still sitting in the box along with my contract simcard, headphones, charger and screen protectors as I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them. Its a nice touch though and defiantly a plus point :victory:
I was planning on buying a bluetooth headset anyway, this one even has NFC and a much "higher-end" product than I would consider
Thanks to everyone who read this topic, I'm really not asking which one is "better" or trying to start any form of a flame war. I just want to know your opinions.. Would you switch? Why? Why not?
And please, please, please list out some positive features of the Xperia Z as I'm seriously disillusioned here
I'm talking about features, gimmicks, accessories, anything to make it standout!

- Screen size: Can't really say anything about it since I came from the Note, and compared to that, the XZ is "a lot" smaller (Depends how much a lot is for some people)
- The looks: Just a matter of ones opinion. For me the XZ is the best phone I've seen thus far.
- The feel: Yap it could have been better
- Rooting worries: Totally bs. You will lose the things you mentioned when you unlock your Bootloader, but you don't need to that for root. And by saving your TA partition before you unlock your BL for the first time you can always re-lock it to get BE2 etc back.
- Battery life: What can we expect from a 2300 mAh battery, for that "small" capacity it's actually quite good. (Removable would've made it even better) Since the new FW the battery life has gotten worse for most people I think.
- Notification Lag: ?? No clue
- Speaker position: I Guess I'm one of the few that it doesn't bother, I use my speaker like.... once per month? Why do people complain so much about it. Listening music through such things is already bs if you're a real music lover, the only thing I use it for is like my ringtone when I receive a call. But most of the times I'm not holding my phone in my hand when I'm receiving a call so I have no problem there.
- Internet Lag: Once again no clue there.
It's a good topic you made, purely based on your own opinion, but because of that reason I also wonder why you made it in the first place.
It doesn't really add anything since (like I said before) it's purely based on an opinion.
Edit:
P.S. I also wonder why they didn't put like a dedicated button for the camera on the XZ.
You can say because of the water resistance, but the phone already has 3 buttons on the side (vol +/-, power) so I wonder if a fourth one would've mattered that much.
I also wanted to buy a HTC One instead of my XZ. The main reason why I went to the XZ is because the XZ looks in my opinion ofcource more like a buisness phone. The reason why HTC One dropped away from my list is also because it doesn't have an equalizer for my taste. As for me, I don't have a facebook nor any other social media account, so the UI of the HTC wouldn't be any handy for me. Can't say anything about the batterylife of the One because I never actually used it longer than a few mins, but the XZ's batt life is really crap compared to my Arc's. But I've managed to get it all along with automatic app killer and closed alot of apps and dimmed the screen a bit. The specs are good enough to run everything smooth, we're not going to play crysis on it. Browsing is fantastic on this phone, never lagged on the websites I browse. The screen is simply amazing especially with the new firmware. The smallapps is really something I really got used to it, can't do without them anymore. Videos and pictures are for some not good enough, but for me it's brilliant. Just need to play with the settings of the camera and got the most amazing pictures ever. Walkman and other Sony dedicated apps are also good.
Don't get me wrong, I also like the HTC One, I just don't find the htc handy enough. The Htc sense it just nothing for me, just eats alot of memory. The speakers ofc beats the XZ's speaker, but that's something nothing to worry about. Just use the headset, nobody wants to listen to your music.
As for built quality, XZ feels very solid in the hand. Drop the htc and u get the screen in pieces because the glass is edge to edge. And the Htc doesnt feel really premium quality in my hand. It has something of a toyish feeling in the hand.
Just an advice, go test the HTC One out in a local store like I did. Compare them to eachother, and you'll see what I mean. However, it's still your opinion and taste to buy the better one you think of. They are both very good phones, and blast the hell out of samsungs plastic toys.
Edit: Just browsed at thr HTC One topic and I'm actually glad I've bought the Xperis Z. Build quality sucks they say. Screen cracked easy in pocket and camera screen cracked etc. The battery ain't wow either.

Thanks for your comments!
Yeah I don't use the speaker for playing music but if I hear a new song or find something funny / amazing on youtube I instantly want to share that with friends and family.. What's easier than just whipping out your phone?
Thanks for clearing up the root worries, I read a few horror stories and thought it may not be worth the hassle.
This is kind of a selfish topic as I only created it because I have less than 7 days to send it back if it isn't right for me. But hopefully with people sharing their thoughts / opinions like yourself this could help other people facing the same problems!

Thanks, I'll definitely try-out the HTC One instore. Who knows, it could feel worse to grip than the Xperia Z! I have been tweaking the camera and it's taking really nice shots even in poor light, I'll take it on some trips and see if the battery can keep up
I hadn't heard about the issues people have been having with the HTC One

Well that's just it.. All the review sites have given me plenty of reasons to switch to the HTC One, I really hate making any decision with only half the story..
As I know I'll regret it if I ended up with the wrong device for me
The screen size
i came from iphone and previously even smaller phone, so first impressions were like ''OMG 5 inches way too big'', after using during some couple days, it fits to me naturally. the weight balance and thickness make it less big it really does
The look
i am not degrading HTC, XZ is simply more beautiful, i agree with others, its one of most design smartphone ever seen
i had a Sony Ericsson W880i before, somehow it reminds me it has some similarity between these
i honestly dont understand why people find HTC One as brilliant design, it just look pretty normal, maybe its because of full alu
actually i prefer square design over curve's one. One has some curve in its shape.
The feel actually it could be as better as worse, square design does not give good hand grip
that is the other side of the coin
Rooting worries if you were willing to root, you should accep the fact of avoiding guarantee, why not? lemme explain, rooting it will be at your own risk, Sony wouldnt prevent you from further issues with root like bricking, bugs... if you brick ur phone for good, dont go crying to Sony, that why they make such decision about DRM
anyway be patient, some developers will fix it and find safe root instruction in order to save DRM (i think it s possible to save it even if phone was rooted)
Battery life on average, all latest smartphones on the market have pretty same battery life according their use of customers
an user who spend day and night on social network, notification, playing game, LTE network etc will drain battery dratiscally
battery life its a matter of use, define your needs in order to find good setting for
Speaker position yes it could be a trouble if you dont use earphones for listening music as exemple
it does not bother me at all since i m using SBH20, NFC and wireless speaker
Internet Lag i didnt get any lag on internet, everything is fine
final advice for you if you focus on aesthetic and design, definitely XZ is for you, otherwhise HTC has its own interface Sense and i know many users like it
Trust me OP, switching to the HTC one would make you happier, the display alone is out of this world. The Xperia Z is a decent phone but I feel like it competes with last year`s phones like the Butterfly/DNA, LG optimus G and Galaxy S3. It doesn't not compare to the galaxy s 4, HTC one or LG optimus G pro in my opinion.

I don't think so that the battery life is crap. Yes it can be improved a bit like the HTC one gets 6-7 hours of on screen time with a marginally smaller battery than the Z..here's my result

Sigh, don't be a dink. Give it a rest.
OP, I've used both phones. Battery life is definitely better on the HTC, but it's nothing special. I would get an extra 15-20 minutes out of the HTC. As much as I love the design and build materials of the HTC One, I had some pretty severe gaps all over the phone. A buddy of mine has one as well and his isn't much better. The camera on the HTC is great in low light, but leaves a bit to be desired in good lighting conditions, which is where I take the majority of my photos.
I love the feel of the Xperia Z. As nice as the HTC One feels, I think the XZ is the better built phone. I worry about the glass back on the XZ but I think it's sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of day to day life. There isn't much the Z does a lot better than the One (except water resistance and arguably camera), but for some reason I like it a lot more than the HTC.

If you can ignore the bad camera and build quality of HTC One why not?
And I can get 6 hours of screentime at %40 brightness.

Sorry but camera fails at photos taken at broad daylight and panoramas vistas etc. 4mp doesnt cut it I have seen it with my own eyes. It may be good at low light but fails at outside photos.
And HTC One has very bad manufacturing. Just read how much problems the buyers have.
BTW I was a HTC phone user before. Not biased or anything. I was considering buying HTC One too. Now I am glad I didnt.
since I bought my Xperia z i have been considering this. I had a chance the other day to go for the HTC but I thought leave it.
I have had a play in store with the one.nothing initially impressed me about it, the screen was great but the Xperia screen is good too and bigger. I don't really like sense either. I couldn't gauge the sound quality due to the noisy environment but I guess that and the camera are the killer points. that's the only two things that would make me switch.
say what you want about the megapixels but I've saw some shots from the HTC one and they look great. the main thing is the quick shutter speed and brilliant low light performance.the Xperia z shutter speed is average at best and low light performance abysmal on the latest Rom.
the speakers on the Xperia z could be better and I always like good sounds quality on my devices.
but then you have to look at it from the other side too. build quality on the z is great, there's been many complaints about the HTC one build quality. when you have a phone for 2 years the build quality needs to be top notch. I guess most devices should be okay but when you hear the stories about gaps you do get slightly put off.
also the Xperia z is waterproof which could save the phones life some day and the stamina mode does help battery life quite a bit plus the rgb notification led is a lot better on the Sony.
as somEone said previously battery life is currently around the same for the top phones just look at the users posts about the phone you'll find out. design is personal preference.
you get used to each phone in the end tbh, they all have things that stand out for them. personally I can live with the sound quality but they need to improve shutter speed and low light performance I'm still on.434 and I might keep it that way.
Well, if I agree that HTC is a better phone than Z in term of hardware but not by much. I also had a dilemma when choosing Z or One but ended up choosing Z as I think it has better design and much cheaper in my country
Screen: Screen is definitely better on One but Z's screen with BE2 when viewing movie is better in my opinion. I really don't care about viewing angle and it isn't as bad on Z as I thought before (maybe my unit got good viewing angle).
Speaker: Yeah, nowhere near boomsound on HTC but it is loud enough. I can use it to view Youtube with my friend with audible audio.
Speed: Sense 5 is fast as hell, I would say that it is the fastest phone on the market right now, it is even faster than Galaxy S4. But most regular users don't really need it, XZ is plenty fast enough
Feel: I don't like the feel of One, although it is thicker than Z on white paper, the edge thickness is only half of Z's which make holding feel weird. Moreover, the buttons on One is the worst I have ever used. The power button is hard to press as it is so flat and place on top of such a big phone like One, volume rockers are also flat as well.
Battery life: I guess it is slightly better than Z. Maybe you will got 1 hour more of screen time.
my workmate has just got the HTC one and is having major problems with it, honestly really glad i've got the xz.

you don't like your Z1, here is the solution

I have had my Xperia Z1 for a week now and I love everything about it, the camera quality is the only thing that annoys me, but hopefully its a software issue and will be fixed soon, apart from that, the phone is stunning and if the time went back I will go with it again.
This is purely my personal opinion and I can see that there are people in this form hating the phone and wish to swap it with another one if they could. Thats why I made this post because the form is full of topics about how someone hate something about this phone and there are not many "useful" informations for the current or future buyers. anyway, what this article is about is that there is no phone is the best ever, Phone A might have better screen, phone B have better camera, Phone C has better battery ... etc. Every phone has its advantages and disadvantages, you would understand if you go and visit forms of other phones, I just went to the note3 form and guess what??? people there complaining about poor performance

and the phone has just been launched. iPhone 5s users also complaining about different issues so there is no perfect phone that does everything well
I am not bashing no-one and I am not happy because note3 or iPhone 5s users are having problems with their new phones. But if you go to any form you will see unhappy users. It is YOUR responsibility to choose a phone depending on your needs, play with it and read reviews before spending your hard earned money. Sony, Samsung and apple try to show you that their phone is the best and after you buy it, they don't care anymore.
Fair enough , but I have the Note 3 ( octa version ) and have NONE of those problems.. the device almost feels perfect...right off the bat ..
I absolutely love my Z1 but it feels like Sony should have waited a little longer before releasing it.
IMHO these are the device's only issues.
1. The yellow tint from the screen. ( which strangely, the more I use the easier I find it on the eyes )
2.The Sudden black screen hang ( had it only once so far, but makes me worry about how reliable the device is, will my alarm ring ? )
3. Terrible cam performance On auto mode. (The cam only sucks on auto mode, especially in low light......but if you use manual mode it's quite lovely )
Hopefully these things can be fixed via an update .Or people will start returning their phones thinking they've bought defective pieces.Heck, I'm kind of wondering too.
If Sony can fix these things and fix it quick it could be the closest to a perfect phone. ( at least for me )
No yellow tint on my screen. Have not had the black screen hang but agree with the quality of photos. O2 has been rolling out the updates from Sony quickly enough, so the first two issues may have been resolved already?

I don't have the first two issues just the camera. But again the camera isn't the worse, when I compare mine to my wife's SGS4, mine open alot faster, here's take 5-10 seconds to open. The colors are equally good. The only thing is the noise in my pictures.

same as my wife's. I expected alot more from the SGS4 when I got it, but now I find my Z1 way better. Z1 performance alot better because of more powerful chip and lighter skin, Z1 screen Alot better, battery slightly better ... etc. Actually this is why I didn't get the note 3, I was considering both but after my issues with SGS4, I went with the Z1
No yellow tint on mine either, had a note 2 n was desperately waiting for note 3 thought give it a try on Z1 and I love it plus I am impressed with the performance its amazingly quick and so is the screen resolution and is water proof and a much better design, well done sony, not getting the note 3 now, cheers to everyone, enjoy ur Z1 guys

Please don't generalize. I love this phone too but mine does have the yellow tint. Fanboy behavior helps no one.
Those Note3 threads are hilarious. Either they're trolls or received defective devices or something, because I know what the Note3 is as I've had it for 5 days now and counting. They are complaining about performance in a device that currently tops the charts. Speakers? Well it's a bloody phone speaker, not a home surround system, it does as much or as little as other phone speakers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP5Ov4zcJE0). There are even threads complaining it's plastic. Really? Did you buy the phone, open the box and only then discovered it was made in plastic? There are a lot of jokers in these forums.
The Z1 seems to be a great device from what I've read and seen. Three of my friends will buy it as soon as it hits the shelves here, so I can't wait to get a hands on it and see what they think.
true true , I have a Note 3 and it is quite awesome , very little to crib about.

My point exactly, no phone is perfect (not even the Z1, note 3 or even iPhone 5s), every phone has its advantages and disadvantages. Different phones suits different people. Everyone should look carefully for what he/she like/prefer/want before spending their hard earned money.

+1 for this one. I chose my Z1 because I would love to take underwater pictures. And I love the manly feel of it, unlike the curvy s4 or note 3, no offense. And the bezels actually help me because I have big hands, it's easier to type and easier to scroll and hold. Unlik the s4 again which I accidentally touch the back key from time to time..
For the ones complaining about the speaker: go to settings, sound, sound effects, settings and tick xLOUD. Makes my speaker more than loud enough

If you don't like your Z1, Sell it to me, I will buy it at half the price

Ok now put a and b and c together and u got lg g2 muahahaha, i sold my z1 after almost three months and got this baby from lg and i never looked back... Much better in every aspect and let me tell all those saying that in manual modes z1 camera is better: I honestly don't care. I am an average user and i wouldn't know how to use the manual modes, and if i did i would probably own a big dslr camera for pictures. Lg ui may appear childish and overcolourful but hey it can be themed cause their launcher supporst themes and worst case u get another launcher from playstore. Knock-on to unlock rocks and u dont abuse ur power button and yes the buttons in the back are really convenient after a couple of hours of playing with the thing. Phone is smooth and overall user experience is way better than what i had with z1. Which leaves the z1 with only one thing and that is build quality (Which is not bad at all on the g2, it just doesnt have all those fancy materials), which again i'd trade for the pocketability of the g2 any day of the week. Did i mention the awesome battery life i get out of it?
I don't liked the z1 at all. When I was thinking about buy it, I stayed for days between z1 and note 3. Now I almost can't sleep thinking that I must had bought the note 3. What do you think about I switch z1 to note 3?

Funny, with me is the other way around, after using the lg g2 for a week(loaned) all i can say is that im happy to have the Z1
The lg is pretty awesome and the Screen is definetly better than the Z1(not rolfstomp better)
But the Z1 is just better in every other way for me, best droid I've ever used and I've tried a lot of them

Not sure I go through phones like crazy I've had the s3, g2, note 2, s4 and I will say this that if you want good battery life on a Samsung you have to turn off their 40 features that drain the battery and you never use those stupid features.
As for the g2 I had issues with the phone stuttering but the battery life was killer but I think I finally found my phone and that is the z1

I haven't had G2 so I can't compare it with the Z1. But I have SGS4 for over 6 months, I had nexus 5 for 2 days, I had the HTC ONE for over a month and I had iPhone 5s for over a month (these are just last year flagships). What I learnt is that you can't say phone A is better than phone B especially when comparing flagships, because it really depends on what are you looking for in the phone. if you want to get best performance, you will get N5 iphone 5s or Z1, if you want camera, you will get Z1 or iphone 5s, if you want feature, you will get SGS4, if you want quality you will get Z1 or HTC ONE (and probably iphone 5s) and so on.
from all of these phone, I will get the Z1 any day (if i had to choose one). But that does not mean the Z1 is the best phone in every aspect, it just provide what I want from my phone. However, I think the Z1 is either 1st or 2nd in almost all aspects. 1st in quality, useful features(not useless like samsung and doesn't lake feature like the iphone), battery, camera, performance (same level as nexus 5 and iphone 5s) and 2nd in screen(only HTC is better), speaker (only HTC is better)
