I purchased one of these last July and for the last month now whenever I have tried to turn the device on, I am permanently stuck on the 'Optimising system storage and applications...' page. It claims the updates will take around ten minutes but it has been several weeks now. I have tried a hard reset but holding the power button down for 40 seconds but on powering up again, just returns to the same page.
Can anyone assist please?
Did you try booting into recovery and doing a factory reset w/ cache wipe?
How do I do this please?

In order to execute a Cache Wipe, perform the following steps:
(1). Left hand holds both volume buttons down at the same time.
(2). While performing step 1 above, right hand holds the power-button down.
(3). Upon seeing "Amazon" logo on the screen, release right hand ONLY, while left hand still holds down both volume buttons.
(4). Upon seeing "Amazon system recovery <3e>" etc. on the screen, release left hand. Now follow the instruction on the screen to perform the "wipe cache partition".

So I picked an A7 last night at compusa. I tried to install the rom so I can run the google market place after rebooting it would just flash elocity on the screen and then reboot. So I got booted in to recovery mode and went to re-flash it with the latest firmware. Now when I power it on on the screen powers on for a split second and then powers down and I can't get it in to recovery mode. Well It's going back to the store to get exchanged. Any ideas on when I did wrong so I won't do it to the next one?
Only press and hold bottom power for 10-15 seg
Press and hold the power button for 15-25 seconds till you see the robot, then touch the home to enter recovery.
search: move up
return: move down
home: enter recovery
menu: select
MAKE SURE you clear the cache before and after ROM installation. You may have to do system wipe (factory reset) as well.

I did the same thing to mine. I did not clear the old data out before i flashed the new. After I cleared data out and reflashed it was fine.
Press power like you were turning on the device until the green lights come on
Release, then press (and hold?) power until you see "Hold Power for Recovery Mode" on the screen
Release, then press and hold power again until you see the recovery menu start to boot
It will reboot to an android with an exclamation point, this is the recovery menu
Then to navigate this screen, use HOME to display the menu text, Search = Up, Back = Down, Menu = enter.
go down and wipe data/reset
it will confirm thats what you want to do
then get back to menu and apply sdcard: update zip
it will do a little bit then go up to reboot system now
and apply and it
hope that helps
So I tried for several hours last night to get in to recovery mode. All I could do was get the screen to flash for a split second then stay blank. Took it back to the compUSA store today and they exchanged it no questions asked. So I tried flashing the mod again today something on the getting to the elocity screen and rebooting. But I got it back in to recovery reset it to factory defaults and flashed it to the newest firmware update and I was good. So the newest update comes with apps that can only be bought in the marketplace.. What is up with that?

I found myself in this situation a couple of times and factory reset + wipe data worked.
Just so we are on the same page, what I did is have phone completely off, press volume down and hold, then press power button till Motorola comes out, then release both buttons.
Android robot with yellow triangle comes out. Press the lower right hand part of the screen and you should see a few options on the top. Use up and down to select factory reset and wipe data, press the bottom portion of the screen to confirm, touch the OK a few times if you feel the bar isn't moving.
Then you should be prompted that your phone has been reset and you are OK to reboot.

but when I press in the lower right hand part of the screen, nothing happens.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
[EDIT]: Nevermind. I sbfed it. Everthing is working now.
My tablet was stuck on the blinking Lenovo logo and I took the following steps -
Shut down TPT by pressing and holding the power button
Pressed and hld the power button until the TPT vibrated
Kept pressing and releasing the volume up button until "Booting Recovery Kernel Image" appeared in the upper left corner.
A long list (in yellow) detailed E: failures to open, mount various things followed
Scrolled to wipe data/factory reset/ delete all user data.
Followed prompt to reboot system now
Tablet vibrated, static lenovo logo appeared and then nothing further happened.
I'd appreciate advice and or counselling as this is the third time I've had a similar problem!
Does anyone else's Turbo take a relatively long time to clear the cache in recovery? I've done it a few times now and each time it has taken close to 10 minutes. Other phones I've tried usually finish the clear in a minute or so? Is anyone else seeing the same thing?
Mine always takes several minutes. I've never actually timed it, but I would guess 5 or 6 minutes?
Mine takes about 20min every time.
IMO I think that a DT thing across the board, at least with the XT1254. I have 7 other friends with the DT and they all experience the same thing( and so do I )
It is a painfully slow process on the DT.
My maxx even in cm recovery takes 10 minutes to clear
Me too I think it's related to the recovery both are unfinished versions of recovery
How is anyone clearing the cache? Going by the steps online, I can't even get to a point to clear the cache. When it says click up to select, it just goes up to the option above. Hitting power just boots the phone. Can i have TWRP yet? - XT1254

When you boot into recovery press and hold the volume up button and tap the power button once to activate the recovery command list
same here on maxx 7/ 10 min
Same here. Not really an issue tho
What it takes to clear the cache and the cell is in operation ... the difference is that everything is done from the recovery while the other cell .. makes the second stage when turn on the phone ... still need to wait a while.
sorry for English

see post #9 in this thread,
Hold the volume up button and tap the power button once when you are in recovery
Yes it takes long to erase cache. I do it one a week.

I'm having the same issue. I follow the instructions to get to recovery to a "T" and still get the little "dead" Andy with the red exclamation warning triangle.
This is, of course, after rooting with mofo root.
EDIT: This is what worked for me - power off phone > hold volume down and power until fastboot loads > use volume up/down to scroll to Recovery > press power to select > once dead andy screen appears, hold volume up and tap (do not hold) power > recovery should load.
Recently I have updated the firmware to 8.1. by using Odin successfully. However, the Internal Storage was reduced to the half only. In trying to fix this, I reflashed it with 'Nand-Erase' option checked (stupidly!). Then everything gone wrong.
- Bootloop (Struck on SAMSUNG logo)
- No recovery
I reflashed without checking 'Nand-Erase' but still not working, bootloop.
Then I installed/flashed TWRP from Odin again. It was successful, but very sadly I can't do anything:
- Unable to restore backup
- No Factory Reset/Wiping Date, Cache etc.
- No Power off
- Unable to Mount
- Internal Storage show 0MB.
Have you ever faced this problem? Can any one help me please. I am really in need of your suggestion and advice.
SOLVED!
After browsing through lots of pages, I found a solution which works for me. Even though my problem has been solved, I will just put the solution here, in case anyone may face the same problem with me. Follow the Steps below...
Reboot into Recovery (Press volume up, home and power button at same time)
Phone will reboot, leave power button but keep holding other 2 buttons.
After you see android/system update installing screen, leave these 2 buttons
Wait for few seconds and phone will show 'no command' then press volume button 3/4times and system recovery will open
with volume keys go to "wipe cache" and press power key.
after that select "wipe data/reset" and press power key.
after that select reboot phone and press power key
now phone will go to Samsung logo screen and you may think that it is again stuck in bootloop
But no, wait for some time->for me it was less than 4-5 min
and you will see the installing apps and other messages on screen
DONE!
Be Happy
Very considerate for you to post that info up for others. Thank you.
