Hi all,
I'm going to install a custom ROM but wanted to ask a few questions first.
What's the deal with the camera? Camera quality is important to me and I've heard that custom ROMs can degrade the camera performance. What exactly happens? I don't think much of the stock camera app and so use Snap Camera instead as it has the ability to turn off noise-reduction and has way more features.
Will there be any difference using Snap on a custom ROM. Does HDR still work well?
More generally, what ROMs are good in terms of being bug free, smooth and recent Android version (7+).
Thanks
Oh, and if anyone could point me in the direction of a good guide for initial rooting and custom recovery for the 900F that would be super! :good:

Man, for me, the performance of Snap camera is better than stock, I was fear of the same, camera quality, but for me HDR and noise-reduction is much better than samsung's camera. Now I can't barely use stock roms without Snap, or Mi A2 Magisk module. It just don't have so many functions like stock one, but I don't mind for it.

Here, just make sure you're downloading files for your phone model, you can see it in "About the phone" on settings of your phone, thanks for who made that guide of the link
For the camera just use snap camera (default LineageOS app) and this mod https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-15-1-camera-supporting-60fps-120fps-t3809145
Also, for rooting G900F you just need to flash TWRP using odin and then the desired root solution, (i would recomend latest magisk)
Thanks both.
I've been using my phone on CrDroid first, then Mokee for about a week now and I think the camera is just fine.
I have done some comparison shots and there seems to be no difference between Snap Cam on stock and Snap Cam on custom rom.
The few differences I have found are in the denoising process. If you like denoising (and I don't), then the stock TouchWiz camera does a much better job of resolving detail and contrast than Snap Cam or the in built camera app of CrDroid or Mokee does. Denoising is pretty bad. However, I have recently installed Google Camera on Mokee and that seems to do a pretty good job with denoising. Alternatively you could just use an app like Snapseed to denoise photos you think need it, and get much better results.

Well the camera image processing software is also pretty good from LG and they also paid for the licences and Aosp is free so they don't have an amazing camera quality like from big company's who invest lots of money in those software.
Here are some tips I can suggest you,

http://d-h.st/xR7 ( Jishnu sur 3.5 Camera for CM)
More I can't really suggest. The only remaining thing you could do then is search on the wide web for an camera app which is good but it will probably go hard since most camera apps also on playstore aren't with advanced image processing as on the LG stock camera. If you are on Cyanogenmod I suggest to also take a look at the 3.5 camera from Jishnu sur maybe. And also the others
Goodluck:good:
P.S. I don't know or they all work good also with image processing etc since I still have to decide which phone I will get myself .
Why custom ROM camera cannot defeat stock ROM camera quality?
Because it can and does? Stock rom has awful side effects like aggressive sharpening and noise reduction. I hated it and had to mod my system files to get decent photos. Unless the custom Rom you are using has bad camera library files or something, I don't see why it wouldn't be a major improvement over stock.
I know some custom roms, like the pixel experience one, are supposed to have camera2 and HDR+ out of the box. Maybe it depends on the rom?

I have used pixel experience too, but i see almost all custom ROMs fails miserably at low light compare to stock ROM, may be some custom ROMs are using bad libraries..agreed!

Well , the motorola magic tricks aren't good at all .
Just look at the agressive noise reduction and oversharpening.
I think side loading the google camera app on the custom roms might help.

They aren't on XDA... yet. I wanted to add them to my camera mod guide here but haven't gotten around to it yet. Savitar is defcomg here on XDA. He's a pretty awesome source of information on this topic.

Can you post these mods here and also if you can ask savitar to mod camera lib callibration as pixel2, cause both got the same sensor and having pixel2 callibration will surely improve camera quality.

Actually, Savitar said the Pixel 2 calibration was worse than the one he's been using, aside from adc noise profiling and color calibration. The rest was unusable/ didn't enhance.
There's a thread where I've tried to gather relevant links and information about the camera here:

i've found and tried every camera app but it didn't like stock camera app. Can everyone recommend for me a camera app for g531H custom rom.
I just want a picture quality isn't square like anyother camera app. Sorry because my bad english :silly:. Thank you so much
I have the grand prime with a custom ROM installed on it, and it doesn't matter what camera app you're using because the quality won't get better, it happens because Samsung has closed the camera's source vendor and the others ROMs have to use the worse APIs for you to take pictures. Conclusion, if you want max quality on pics, get back to stock original ROM.
EDIT: I was wrong about that?
Actually the drivers are same, even in custom ROMs, the camera app really matters because it depends on how the image is processed by the application. For Gran prime I recommend you to install Lineage's camera (available on apkmirror) and turn off the 'Denoise' option which makes the image to look Sharper.
Hi, is it possible to extract the camera app that comes with the Xiaomi.eu ROM to install and run as an independent, standalone app without having to unlock the boot loader, root, magisk, etc.?!?
The xiaomi.eu ROM camera app comes with a lot of better features and in my opinion it produces better pictures than the camera app that comes with the official Xiaomi MIUI 10.2.26.0 PFAEUXM ROM.
Thanks!
Best regards,
Lars

Have you tried using anx camera (google it and download. It is flashed by magisk and replaces the system camera, unless you disable or uninstall the module, at which case you revert back to the ststme camera. Better backup in twrp before just in case something goes wrong. I tried it in eu miui and it worked OK)
I'm just curious what features you like better
I prefer the stock camera app to that on the eu rom(though I'm running the dev build)

I like the additional HDR modes (live and pro) as well as the dynamic pictures (aka live photos, I missed them since I had to forsake my Windows Mobile Lumia 950XL). Also, when comparing (pixel peeping) photos I prefer the ones coming out of the xiaomi.eu ROM's camera app. I think they just may have adjusted the JPG compression rate, but IMHO the xiaomi.eu ROM's camera produces pictures with more details, I've also compared them with pictures shot on a Mi 9 running the latest official global stable.

+1 :good:
I would love to get a non magisk camera for custom ROMs that can use all the lenses.
As far as I've seen, nothing on the play store can do it. There doesn't seem to be a standard even though practically all phones are adding multiple lenses.
Hey guys, I hope you're all doing well.
I've been wondering if there is any way to switch from MIUI to another room but retaining the same camera quality, I've tried with LOS 16, Pixel experience and xiaomi.eu with the anx camera mod, they're all really awesome ROMs but I've noticed that the camera quality is a little bit worse in detail and color than the stock rom one at best.
I'll be thankful if anyone could guide me in this subject.
Thank you for your time. Cheers.
Why don't you try a camera app with full manual controls?
Like Snap Camera HDR, it's awesome & takes great pics.

I've tried but can't get any more detail/quality than it has, most of them don't even let me use the 48mp camera. I've heard that it has to do with the camera libraries that aren't open source or something like that. But I would like to know if there's any custom ROM that has the same quality as stock or if there's any way or something to be installed to get that. Or if I'm stuck with MIUI if I want camera performance.
Thank you for your patience, I don't really understand these matters but I'm looking forward to learn by asking.

Yes, as I said in the first post, I already tried using anx camera but the detail in pictures somehow is not the same, I tested it side by side with a stock RN7 and a LOS16 RN7 both at the same time and there was a lot of detail lost. Maybe I did a bad flashing or something, I don't know, but this loss in detail is normal?
On a side note, is there a module or a zip or something that I can flash in order to make MIUI look more like stock? I don't like the inbuilt theming that it has, as it only reskins the system.
Thank you guys

Hello, first ... The gcam versions are great and much better than the stock cam because much more details in the pic. Big thanks to the developer.
.
I tested nearly all..from 6.1 to now 7, from all modders
.
But i only see a different in the awb and sharpness up to the lib.
So ..for me.. there is no great different. 7. looks for me like the 6.3 versions (picquality)
.
I miss really a pro mode with manual iso and shuttertime.
.
That together works for me in no versions from all modders. Is there a chance to get it. Like in the stockcam?
.
What you think?
.
Best greetings

GCAM way better. Huge difference to Stock or ANX...
IMHO the trCam 7.2 Mod is the absolute best right now https://t.me/RedmiNote7Photography
Better than Parrot's or Arnova
Don't install modded gcam. They make the phone run slow, takes up memory even when it's not used. Mi camera isn't bad anymore, after all these updates.

which camera are you using?
I had BSG version on my phone until 2 days ago. I'm not really a camera guy, I don't need 2 cameras on my phone. So I uninstalled. Then I noticed increase in overall snappiness, more free memory, and less storage cache. Also, as I wrote, stock camera was poor in the beginning but now it's not that bad after all these updates.
