So i was having the same issue , volume lowering to such low level it had me regretting purchasing this device .
Tried every Kernel , Rom which i could find but nothing -_- even altered some voltages and settings in kernel auditor
Most Kernel's help with decreased sound on low battery levels but this is something else ( Probably related to Hardware )
when i was about to throw this phone i tried the oldest solution - Pressing the Device Hard
Not just the speakers but even the screen corners damn i pressed hard the whole phone from everywhere
( Continued doing it for at least a minute )
Guess what guys Speakers are Boomy again
i have been playing songs & videos from past hour now and no volume drops :fingers-crossed:
Hope this might work for most of us
Good luck ^^

My speaker was working just fine the last few days and today, boom, got home and now it sounds like it's fuzzy and distorted. It won't play any songs at all almost, it's quiet and sounds like it's forcing to play. Anyone have the same?
tried restoring my first stock, fixed my wifi issue last time, but no sound fix still. what the hell happened...i opened the back and couldnt see anything. uninstalled volume+, but it wasn't giving issues earlier. Tried a new kernel but it was fine too, and that shouldn't affect sound? And if it did, the restore should have put it back? Not sure, might do a clean install of a custom rom and see what happens.
Your symptoms sound like what would happen if you blew the drivers. I'm not familiar with volume+ but I'm assuming it boosts the volume on your device past what the maximum volume in android? If that's the case it seems like it would be very easy overload the built in speakers on most devices as they are only designed to take a very small amount of power unlike dedicated speakers or headphones. Not sure why anyone would use an app like this(at least for the volume boosting function) as most devices have their volume limited for a reason. Even if the drivers themselves can handle more power, the amplification system in the device might not, which lead to clipping, something that in the long run can be just as damaging to a speaker as giving it too much juice. Exceeding the built in limits is just asking for trouble(Im not saying boosting a device's sound WILL blow the speakers, just that it very easily can).
That being said, if you were overloading the nexus speakers you should have heard a bit of distortion while listening to stuff and eventually they would have failed. If everything was working fine and then they suddenly stopped working, it's probably something else.

It worked fine at work, then went home and it got distorted. When I tried volume+, it never did anything anyway, so I never enabled it and eventually uninstalled it. Something happen in between, I did try a few kernels, but nothing in the threads said anything about ruining the speaker or sound. I flashed stock and nothing, still the same thing. Might have to RMA already :/
Hey Guys,
I have a unrooted nexus 7 which has been working fine until a month ago... It started with the power button no longer responding which somehow corrected it self. That sameday I'm watching a you tube video and the speaker buzzed for a second locking up the video, so I had to replay the video and suddenly had no sound... I played around with all the volume controls in the settings and had no success however the volume control for alarm and notification alarm did play a test sound when I moved the bar but did not increase in volume or decrease just remained at the same soft level no matter where I placed my finger on the control bar. But the headphones still work.
So I did a factory reset and it had no effect. I left the device off for a few hours and turned it back on and the audio came back like new, but after 15 to 20 mins it goes right back to the same problem I had since I watched the you tube video... No one else seems to be experiencing this so I think the speaker or something in the hardware has failed... I'll probably RMA but if any one has any suggestions, I'm all ears.
Thanks
I think you are correct about the hardware problem. When it's an hardware issue nothings better than RMA.
Hello there everyone.
I am working on few of problems faced by Nexus regarding its sound quality and other issues related to hardware and software. One of the device has confused me completely is been addressed at the end of this thread.
Mostly, according to my experience, the sound is very loud compared to its previous model of Nexus 7 2012 which had mono speakers while this is loaded with two stereo speakers. Using it in portrait mode has best sound experience.
However, if you try the surround sound option via Google Music, the sound isnot really loud. Just without it, I have noticed best performance.
Also, in MX Player Pro, I have seen that with good headphones, you can increase the sound upto 30 (rather than normal 15) yet you can not do the same whilst using the speakers. It could be due to codecs.
Overall, the sound is loud in a quite environment but hardly noticed in busy areas with background noises like streets. shops etc even on its full sound.
However, some devices do have a bit low sound which could be increased by modifying files a bit but this is kind of increasing your speakers output more than it is optimised to be used for. Thus, sound may break and might be distorted. I am trying to find a combination where an optimum balance could be achieved but I haven't been successful. (If anyone has these values, please share)
I havenot come across a speaker problem related to hardware where no sound was coming out of it. Although, few devices do have different maximum sound if measured in db (3 to 5 db on same track)
THE DEVICE
The device came without its top speaker working and after opening it up and checking the speakers, both speakers worked. I thought the reason, it was not working was due to software. I tried looking into it deeply through software modification without any luck.
One day, after heavy gaming out of curiosity, I just turned on songs to check if both speakers were working and viola, both were working out of no where without any software modification (I gave up and reset the Nexus to give it for warranty claim the next day).
I was overjoyed and till next day, both speakers were working perfectly until I did some heavy gaming again and the sound vanished after charging it (It got hot again during charging)
This has happened twice and today I was gaming with sound turned on and nothing. The device top speaker didnot turn on for a second even like two times it happened before. Both that time, my device was silent while gaming.
I suspect some wiring issue but still not sure, I am now a bit sceptical to open this Nexus again and void the warranty as I have already have taken the back lid off few times. I do not intend to heat it with soldering Kit as I have damaged Htc Sensation a while back doing that. Any Suggestions about this device in particular?
How have been your experience with sound quality and do share any mods you have find useful and have tested.
My phones ear piece volume is very low, i have no problem with speaker or headphones volume .
the volume is so low that if im not in a perfectly quite room i wont be able to hear anything.
I had earlier seen some post some where , it said i need to modify some value in build prop, the deafult 5 to 8 ,
i checked mine and it was 3, i tried modifying it and phone got systemui error and has to flash back the stock rom.
Any help would be appreciated
any one faced this problem n managed to fix it ?
it is dependent on :
-YOUR NETWORK quality
-SIGNAL intensity
-Your caller's network quality
-your callers hardware device (phone)
So it is really hard to tell.I have found it will get a little better with time (maybe just like speakers that get better after a few uses)
Unfortunately the earpiece in LG G2 is not of the highest quality at all (i have a ~5 year old Nokia N8 that sounds miles better and louder)
What you can try is to readjust your phone and push your phone as close as you can to the ear so it will better capture the sounds.
My media player volume keeps increasing and decreasing randomly and this is extremely irritating while listening to music. The only solution, albeit a temporary one, is to restart the phone every time this happens. But its just a matter of time before it starts randomly fluctuating again. Is there any solution for this?
Hi.
Maybe the problem is that your audio sources have different volume levels. In this case you should look for an app that use something called ReplayGain. I think Poweramp use it. I don't know about others...
Edit: just adding a link which explain it better than me maybe
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReplayGain
I had this problem on my 6P also. This just suddendly came after 2 weeks running on stock without any updates or anything. 1 week later still on same stock it got even worse. The fysical volume buttons stopped responding and I where only able to regulate the volume through software.
I then desided to f*ck the stock, root and use cyanogenmod/lineageOS roms instead and none of the problems have returned. The problems could maybe have been resolved just with a normal factory reset ? But overall the phone runs smoother and better than stock.
