Problem with my media player volume. - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My media player volume keeps increasing and decreasing randomly and this is extremely irritating while listening to music. The only solution, albeit a temporary one, is to restart the phone every time this happens. But its just a matter of time before it starts randomly fluctuating again. Is there any solution for this?

Hi.
Maybe the problem is that your audio sources have different volume levels. In this case you should look for an app that use something called ReplayGain. I think Poweramp use it. I don't know about others...
Edit: just adding a link which explain it better than me maybe
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReplayGain

I had this problem on my 6P also. This just suddendly came after 2 weeks running on stock without any updates or anything. 1 week later still on same stock it got even worse. The fysical volume buttons stopped responding and I where only able to regulate the volume through software.
I then desided to f*ck the stock, root and use cyanogenmod/lineageOS roms instead and none of the problems have returned. The problems could maybe have been resolved just with a normal factory reset ? But overall the phone runs smoother and better than stock.

Music Player Issue

Hi,
My HD2 has developed this strange issue whereby when playing music via the HTC music player...the volume control has stopped controlling the volume and now...changes tracks. I reset it yesterday and it was back to normal, ie pressing the buttons was changing the volume as expected. However this morning its happening again...changing tracks. I dont know if its meant to happen or not...but its annoying having to go back to the main menu just to change the volume. Anybody else getting this?
Thanks,
Hus
Yeah this started happening to me too. I'm sure it was working fine when I first got it but last couple of days when I hit the volume rocker on the side of the phone the volume bar comes up on screen and if I press it again it skips to the next track. Volume rocker does work when the phone is locked though but if you've got the music player open all the volume now does is skip tracks.
I just noticed that with mine too. The volume rocker DID control the volume. Now all it does is skip tracks. Very weird.
Edit: Tried the reset, and it's back to normal. I only noticed this because you mentioned it. Haha.
Soft reset? You didn't do a full hard reset?

I did a soft reset. And it went back to normal. Didn't want to hard reset yet, unless it becomes a major problem.
I reset it, goes back to normal and then reverts back after a little while - its so annoying. Its the annoying little bugs that get to you after a while.
mine is fine for now
i had mine for a week now and never experienced it.though i experienced it on my touch pro 2
Yeah, I keep hitting this issue. Haven't managed to work out whether it is random or whether a certain app is causing it. A soft reset fixes it each time.
Hi -- does anybody experience this problem:
You go to Music and it crashes Sense so it will automatically restart?
This is very annoying and so far soft reset does nothing to avoid it. Perhaps hard reset will do it, but anyone knowing how to resolve this without hard reset pls speak up. I would hate to do hard reset for a second time in a single day
They should name it non-sense instead of sense
Same issue here.Volume buttons change into skip track buttons after a while.

I had that problem on my Touch Diamond (I think - it could have been my Touch HD). It was some dodgy album art that I had on the storage card that was causing the problem. For some reason, the UI just didn't like it. Delete all the album art and let the music tab find it for you itself (or go without).
That may solve the problem.
Hi --
album art was downloaded via HTC audio manager. Interesting enough when you play the same song at shuffle mode it goes without problem. Audio Manager will only freeze at the song if you go to library->album->song.
Very strange issue indeed. Also audio manager crashes by browsing album in landscape mode when it reaches certain album (without even playing song at background). This may mean indeed trouble with album art, but the same behavior is when all album art is deleted and blank (no covers). Audio manager will still crash at the same songs/albums... All tags were edited with mp3tag so nothing disturbing there as well...
Anyone who has the same issue pls share of workaround. I was not able to find solution within this forum and elsewhere on the Internet, perhaps this will be taken care of future ROM development I hope?
I am having huge problem with my Loe
I have 16 GB micro SD card, I have formatted through the phone
anyway I have added about 200 mp3's when I try to play it takes ages to update library then phone become sluggish and gets hot
not happy @ all
thinking changing the phone I can not use my phone as a mp3 player
I got my HD2 today, tried to use the music player on my way home and noticed that whenever I started a playlist playing, if i locked the screen, the music would not continue at the next song once the song that was playing finished. This would only happen if the screen was unlocked. Anyone know a way around this?

Volume key is changing tracks in music player

Since installing ROM 1.66 I've noticed when I try to turn up the volume when playing music it changes the track instead. Is this an error?
I take it no one else has this problem then.
It is an error, yeah. I believe that HTC intended to have the volume buttons skip tracks under certain circumstances, like when the phone is in standy (for example). I don't know for sure - I'm just assuming that the functionality is there for a reason!
When it happens to me (which has been about 3 or 4 times in nearly 3 months), I just move off the music tab and then back onto it and the problem disappears.
Give that a go. If it works, it's at least a workround till it gets fixed proper.
Yes moving off the music tab does seem to correct it and when I've gone back to the music tab it now appears to be working. It's only since I updated to 1.66 this has happened.
Not a big problem but I hope they patch it soon.
Thanks.

Weird Audio Issue

I've been having a weird audio issue with my Nexus 7 and was wondering if anyone else was having it. I search before starting this thread and couldn't find anything similar, which leads me to believe the answer is 'no', but thought I would ask anyway.
So my N7 was one of the first to be released. For a couple months I've had no major issues. A little screen lifting, but not enough to make me send it back. Some issues with the screen (what looks like burn in, but goes away) which has been heavily reported, but again, I can live with it. Both of those issues are well known and common, but this one just started up.
Every so often, when my N7 has been sitting idle and in standby mode for a while and I unlock it, I hear a "click" sound from the speaker. It normally makes that sound, but on occasion it sounds weird and clipped. When this happens, I lose audio. The only way to regain it is to either reboot the device, or manually lower the sound to zero, wait a few seconds, and then raise it up again. The latter method usually works, but once in a while I have to do it multiple times before the audio is restored. When the audio stops, it doesn't matter if it's the built in speakers or headphones - nothing.
This problem seems to only occur right after I wake it up. In other words, if I'm using it actively and I have sound, the sound works fine.
Again, this problem only started occurring about a month or so ago, and is only sporadic. At first, I thought it might have something to do with a new app I downloaded, but I eliminated that variable.
It's not a major problem, but it does get annoying every so often.
My N7 is stock firmware with a custom kernel (Motley) and rooted (obviously) with CWM recovery.
The logs don't indicate any issues. And since the audio comes back with me turning it off/on (usually), it seems more like a software issue.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
Also, when the sound is working properly, it sounds great. No static or distortion or anything like that.
I have the same problem, at first i thought it was because of the kernels so i switch kernels from stock to motley then now i am on clemsyn. I do not know whether it is a software or hardware problem because my speakers sound perfectly alright, except the symptoms which you described.
My case is then sometimes when i unlock it, the normal click sound on unlock might be distorted and then for a period of time there will be no sound. The quick way to solve it is to plug in a headphone and then pull it back out, this will get the sound back immediately OR i can just wait for a while and the sound will be back. Again because of the speaker not having any other distortion during normal music playback, this might actually be a software problem, but it seems not many pple have documented this behaviour so hardware problem is also likely.

I think it could be a hardware defect with ours. Since you are the only other person to report the exact same symptoms, it seems to be rare. In my case, it occasionally happens even with the headphones in, so I don't think it's a speaker issue - more likely a sound card problem. If it was software, I think it would be much more commonly reported. Oh well.... Weird that it only started happening about a month or two after I owned it.
juz an update on my nexus 7 audio issue, i recently just flash franco kernel and the audio issue seemed to go away completely. i amnot sure whether its the overclocking or the undervolting that caused the problem but i am glad it is gone. Juz FYI.
I have a similar situation where the sound stops working randomly. It's rare, but maybe once a day. The volume buttons remain high but there is no sound. I have to reboot for the sound to come back. I am on Kaos Droid 3.8 Beta, with the Clemsyn Elite Battery Saving kernel.

[Q] volume always resets + headphones not recognized

I have two issues with my Nexus 4. I searched google and the forums for these issues and couldn't find anything related. I am running stock 4.2.1 with root.
Issue 1: My volume always resets. I use the volume rocker or go to settings and mute all the sounds on my phone. As soon as I get either a notification or a call (something that would produce a sound) the volumes are back at their stock positions. I have no apps installed that mess with volume or any kind of 'do not disturb' type apps. I use the stock Messaging and GMail apps. This is very annoying because I can't just put my phone on silent and expect that it will stay there. So I have to power my phone off while I'm at the movies, meetings, etc. Anyone else experiencing this or have an idea what could be causing this? Should I try a factory reset?
Issue 2: I just noticed my phone isn't recognizing when I plug in 3.5mm headphones or speakers anymore. It's been since mid December since I've used headphones with it. Today, I plugged in some 2.1 speakers to play some music and it would only come out of the external speaker on the phone. I then tried to use the headphones I was using a month ago and it also didn't recognize them. Could this just be a software issue or should I RMA?
My phone is in mint condition. Never dropped, never had liquids on it, etc. If anyone could provide me with some suggestions for troubleshooting these issues I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Then I have no idea, sorry. My other guess would be is that you're accidentally pressing the volume key in you pocket or something without realizing it. You could try factory resetting the phone. It can sometimes fox weird issued like yours.

have u check the adaptive option under the settings->sound->adapt sound?
Could it be that the adaptive sound is processing at certain point of time trying to give you the best sound that its think of?
Yes, I have experienced this under the following conditions:
-Phone just purchased, unrooted, completely stock. Playing music with PowerAmp with and without the EQ/Tone/Limit features, also happened with stock music app. The effect nearly blew out my eardrums once, but it happened several times. Music would play and very suddenly there would be a violent increase in sound, almost as if an EQ crashed. Sound went back to normal after I pressed the volume rocker in either direction. I am not so sure that this has to do with Adaptive Sound because I remember experiencing the same problem before and after i configured it. Overall, incredibly annoying and dangerous for my ears.
-Phone rooted, Viper4Android installed as a user app. The same problem happens using PowerAmp, Xenoamp and stock music app, but the increase is not so violent (not sure why, yet). Marginally tolerable, but still very annoying.
I have not found a fix yet, but still keeping an eye open.
That being said, my phone has music playing almost all day every day so I probably encounter the problem more often than others. I use earbuds, headphones and my car stereo. There is a Droid-Life.com review that mentions the issue and credits it to the phone's audio jack: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/01/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review/
See the subsection for Audio Jack Issues. Here is an excerpt:
"Then, after a few minutes without touching anything while at full volume, the volume just explodes and you are left deafened by the surprise volume attack."
I would be interested to see if anyone reports the problem when playing music via the phone's speaker.

[Update] Looks like this is not an isolated issue. My friend's wife also facing the same problem and she sent in to reflash the unit at Samsung Care Center and the problem just disappear. My friend told me factory reset doesn't help though.
I have exactly the same issue you have. Same XXUBMJ1 ans using the device for a month now. Unknown and just reported to Samsung and was asked to walk in to get advice.
