MCOC not working on October build. - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

I have tried many times to somehow fix this issue before posting but have literally no success. After recently updating to the October build, a game I play frequently called Marvel Contest of Champions, no longer works. The game will load, but pictures and graphics are missing, and quickly freeze my phone if I interact with them.
Anyone have any idea of how to rectify this issue? Deleting app data, and uninstalling does not help, neither does rebooting the device, or wiping Dalvik/Art cache in recovery. Even tried notch settings. I'm literally out of ideas here.

Sounds like the issue is the app is poorly built. And since it is app specific I would defer to the developer.

Turn off developer option, reboot and try again.

It has bugs like any game, but this has something to do with Essential's October release. The game literally works for me on any other build or Custom ROM - just not October.

I didn't think to try that, will do if I ever venture back to new-ish stock builds. Thanks for the suggestion.

Security hole in htc devices

Just saw this and figured I'd post

Sent from my Recharged EVO.
I am pretty sure that this has been mentioned around here. This feature has been removed from some rooted ROMs including MikG.
Apparently it's only in sense.

Is it enough to just 'freeze' htc iq & logger?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yea, I found this last night. I was the one who originally posted it here. The article on Android Police stated that the best option was immediate removal of the HTClogger apk. I did that, and got repeated force closes over and over, literally to the point of not being able to do anything on my phone. I had to pull the battery and restore to a Nadroid I made earlier, so just removing the apk isn't gonna work. I think it has to be built out of the OS, because the system keeps looking for it. I don't know how freezing is going to work either, but I think it would have the same results. I'm waiting on word from someone who knows better than me, and hopefully the dev who built my ROM can do something to get it out.
Not sure about being able to just wipe or freeze those services, but there are a variety of rom's that have them removed, or just go with an AOSP rom and problem solved.
don't forget to wipe..

I deleted HTCLogger.apk, got the force close messages, but instead of automatically reverting to a NAND, I tried a simple reboot first. It worked fine.

I did the same with the HTCLogger.apk and just renamed it to HTCLogger.apk.bak and did a reboot and it worked fine for me as well. Can we just freeze the CIQ?
Yea, I should have thought to just reboot....what an idiot lol....I've since uninstalled IQRD, HTClogger.apk, and HTC IQAgent, and restarted and all is well. I feel much safer and less spied on now lol.

Trouble installing 3rd party apps.

I'm trying to install some of the Humble Indie Bundle 6 games on my N4 and I'm running into a problem I've never faced before. The APK files download just fine, but when it comes to actually opening them to start the installation, it won't install. The button that says "install" does nothing when I press it. I checked in my security settings and "unknown sources" are allowed. I included screenshots of both these in the attached files. I even tried un-selecting the "verify apps" option, in case the humble bundle app had been removed from their white list for some reason, it still won't install.
I thought it might be a bug with the Humble Bundle beta app so I tried to uninstall and reinstall it, but it too is getting stuck on the installation. It downloads just fine but it won't install. I've tried rebooting my phone, still no luck. I'm on the latest Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Has anyone else been getting this problem, or does anyone have any idea on how I could fix it? I didn't pay much for the games but it sort of sucks to have bought them and be unable to play any of them like this.
I'd like to try with some more third party apps to see if it's all of them, or if it's just the Humble Bundle APKs that are causing me trouble (if it's the later I can probably contact Humble Bundle and ask them for assistance), but I'm not familiar with those. Could someone please recommend some good safe ones I can test out?
My humble bundle beta installed fine. So at least you know the app should work. Sorry can't help you more. Hopefully someone else has a solution. Silly question... have you tried rebooting?

are you running paranoid android? disable halo, or so ive read.
Any app that requires permission to draw over other apps can potentially cause what you're experiencing. Examples include but are not limited to:
- the HALO feature in PA ROMs
- Screen filter apps
- Other floating apps

Could any of that happen if I haven't rooted?
Also,
I've just tried to reinstall TubeMate, another third party app I like. It's APK also refuses to install, which probably means there's a problem with my phone and not just the Humble Bundle app. I'm starting to think I'll have to factory reset the phone, which is certainly do-able, just... not very fun.

Yes, this can happen without root access. I've seen your problem addressed several times in multiple forums and ALL of them is because of a floating app.
Look through your app list. Is there ANY app that, as a feature, floats on top of other apps?
Eg, Facebook Messenger, Screen Filter, Floating Stickies, AirCalc, etc
Just force stop them and you should be able to sideload apk's again.

The phone says 1.68 GB are free, but when I plug it into my desktop it tells me 1.57 GBs. So... somewhere between those two.
EDIT:
Found it... It was the Twilight app (no, not THAT Twilight... lol), it's an app that tints the whole screen a slight redish color so it doesn't hurt my eyes too much when I use the phone in the evening. That must count as a "floating". The moment I disabled that I was able to successfully install the APK. YOU SIR, ohyearar, have won a thanks.

Nexus 6p freezes when installing/updating apps please help

Hello guys, ever since I got my phone. Everytime the phone trying to do update an app or installing one it froze for a new minutes until the apps is installed. It was like that on stock and it is like that on every custom roms I've tried. I don't know if I'm the only one or not. Please help and thank you.

No, just for a few mns until the application is done updating/ installing or un installing Then the screen either hang or locked itself. Like the system did a soft reboot.

It's normal for a device to slow down or lag a little when installing apps sometimes, the screen locking definitely isn't normal though.
Even my does the same
Like it i update am app or install from play store and use a diff app say I'm on whatsapp then when the app is installing it will be freezed no touch works nothing but screen remains as it is

Even when installing app? That's odd. My note 5 doesn't freeze when installing apps or updating them
It's an issue with aosp package installer. You won't see it on other devices as the oems re-write that code.
It's mostly noticeable on anything FB puts out. As they are known for having the worst coded apps on the market.

So far I don't think there is a fix. Can't say about official Google. As I have not run a stock rom since I got my first device. If they have fixed it they have not pushed the fix to aosp which is happening more and more with google

Well as the custom roms sync their source with aosp, then Google has not pushed a fix if there is one. This is happening more and more. Google fixes something but doesn't push it to aosp so it stays broken in 3rd party roms until the devs find a fix
Has this been solved? It's happening to me.
facing same issue. Also my YouTube pause video whenever some app gets updated in background.
Noticed this along with horrible battery life due to system ui restarts or something in all latest may version of Roms. I went back to b29I or whatever "I" version stock rom. No problems since. Goodluck

How to stop ActivityManager killing apps due to "high power cost"???

By now you may have heard about Axon 7 killing music playing app issue, if you haven't experienced it yourself already. For me I'm having a similar or at least related issue. The phone would kill my game when I turn off and on screen. After some investigation, below is my observation
1. Doesn't happen all the time. After a fresh reboot, no killing for a while... but after some time using the phone, it starts to happen
2. Not app-specific: After playing a game heavily for a while, the killing starts... only for that specific game. If I play a different game, then only that new game gets killed.
This have driven me kinda crazy. A look at adb logs reveals this:
12-22 12:45:34.229 I/ActivityManager( 1752): Killing 23881:jp.co.happyelements.toto/u0a122 (adj 0): excessive high power cost :jp.co.happyelements.toto
What the actual f***??? Why would ZTE kill my "excessive high power cost" process *after* I turn on the screen (and not when I turn off screen, which was 5 seconds earlier)??? Has nobody in ZTE thought about that apps that has "high power cost" may not be actually "excessive" but totally within reasons and fall into the category of normal every day use?
And no amount of changing the native "power saving" options stopped this behavior. Back in the days I remember there was some root/xposed module that would whitelist apps from being killed by the OS but I couldn't remember the name. So now I have to ask help on how to deal with this idiocy.
Edit: My apologies... I just noticed I posted in the wrong section... mods please move the thread to Q&A section if possible. Thanks a lot.
is there seriously no solution?
This is intolerable

If it was that easy, then I wouldne be here asking about it would I?
Yep, have the same problem after trying the same things. Several apps (2 of which I use for monitoring blood sugar levels) will randomly stop updating until either re-launched or the phone is rebooted. I have disabled all power manager options to no avail. Whatever power management system ZTE has implemented, it's FAR too aggressive.
Disclaimer - I haven't pulled logcats, but your description of the problem matches mine exactly. Here's hoping for a fix in Nougat and/or a custom ROM, otherwise I'm moving to a different phone. The A7 has great hardware but the stock software is a bloated mess.
B27 does not have this issue (which is why I downgraded to it). Might be a solution for you until the next upgrade releases.

@whoiswes If you are talking about the xdrip app. I too want this app to work with this phone. I tried CM13 and had the app work for hours then at night it stopped working. I only tried it for one night so didn't try different settings. At least this is a positive sign once CM13 becomes more stable or CM14 is released. I heard the app won't work with B27 either.
Found a solution, though it needs root
Code:
pm disable com.zte.powersavemode
then reboot
This totally disables the power saving menu though

I made this xposed module specifically to fix the problem described in OP. If you have the exact problem, including the logcat message, then the module should fix it.
If you dont have the exact problem, including the logcat mesage, then go ****post in another thread.
My solution is to whitelist all apps in:
settings -> energy management -> app energy management -> option button (upper right) -> app protection list -> option button -> set all to off
But the problem is that this setting resets everytime you install/delete an app
Edit: Ok i just tried out manually setting all apps to "off", now it doesn't reset the apps when installing an app but the new app ist automatically allowed to be cleaned. So you still have to disallow cleaning for each installed app manually.
Just an FYI, I updated to the Cyanogenmod/Lineage 13 Beta by UDev and one of my problem apps has been running for 18 hours without a single hiccup. Trying the second problem app later today. Not a solution for this problem but from my perspective it definitely pinpoints Power Manager as the culprit.
@borijess - yeah, Nightwatch and xDrip are the 2 apps that I've had trouble with, and so far Nightwatch is working great on CM13 (1228 build).

Facebook crash on Android P

Every time I click on the comment button of a post the Facebook app crashes. Anyone else with the same issue?
With as crappy as the coding on Facebooks app is who knows. I have not seen this and I am on 9
Hmm, discouraging. I've cleared cache, deleted data, uninstalled and installed the app to no avail.
I am on totally stock unrooted 9
I am having similar lockups on multiple apps. Stock-unrooted aug 6 build of P and I tried a full device reset.
Not seeing any app issues same release of P ...hmm have you done a cache clear on the device? Meaning the os not indevidual apps.

I get exactly the same thing on my stock Pixel 2 XL since upgrading to Pie. However, it works fine on a Pixel 1.
I've tried uninstalling FB and re-installing and no joy.

Being out of the scene for a while, how do you delete the dalvic cache... ie how do you put the PH-1 in recovery, and do you have the delete cache in stock recovery?
Edit : I did put the phone in recovery mode but, as I expected, the stock recovery image does not have the delete cache option like a custom recovery. Hmm surprised to read that not even a factory reset solved the issue.
I've never used the FB app. Who knows what it is doing when you aren't using it, even if it is closed/stopped.
Better way...open your browser, instead of going to www.facebook.com, go to www.m.facebook.com which
loads the mobile version, and in your browser settings, you can always use the desktop version if needed.

More likely an issue with your Facebook account. Facebook has AI doing code corrections all the time in the background. They also sometimes fubar stuff and then correct it a couple of days later. This has happened to my account more than once.
Mystery of Technology... LOL, no, more like Bugs of Technology, and Pie just came out, so expect plenty of them until it matures a bit...
