So i read an article that starting in 2019 Verizon will be shutting down the cdma thru 3g networks pushing everything to 4g and 5g. I know developers have been trying to make volte and wifi calling work but no luck yet. With this in mind we will need to upgrade to run on those bands, any affordable ideas on replacements for the quark and why that phone? Thanks

They better start installing towers a little closer to each other. Or they will lose everyone that is in the 1x to 3g range.

I have the galaxy tab unlocked from tmo which I used without any problems recently in Germany. +1 Grand Master Silicon. LOL.
But seriously, yes I'd want a GSM model to be able to put in a SIM card, but only if it had all bands, not just 1900/2100 for T-mobile. I'd like to have it be capable for all bands but we can dream right?
They're already making a GSM Xoom, but its being released in Germany first. We already know the GSM exists its just up to Verizon to decide when to release the grip on Motorola's balls for the US launch.

There's a thread (... or two?) where people have been playing around with turning their devices into GSM devices, some with more success than others. I personally wish it had been released with GSM/UMTS (provided it's unlocked and quad-band) as I travel a fair amount to GSM countries and it'd be nice to buy a local SIM and use my Xoom there, too. If such a device is released for the US market I'll probably get one, if there's a large enough gap between that one and the Xoom 2 (or maybe that'll be the one they release as GSM?)
The hardware does appear to be there in the CDMA VZ version (the same chip is used for both, but based on what one hacker has done, there's apparently some minor remaining issues with the baseband code).
Just get an MZ601? They're quadband, and everything.

The answer used to be Sprint is CDMA not GSM so you have the wrong phone if I am correct. Sorry. But now that they have LTE....
LTE is the same functionally (not bands though) among carriers. You may need to call Sprint and see if they have some sort of blocking enabled for that device.

I am about to order one from ebay (h815). I'm not sure if that will work with tmo since it's missing the aws 1700/2100 3g band. Isn't that a necessary band for mms?
Also looks like it's missing lte 12 but doesn't matter since Chicago hasn't been approved for that band anyway and it'll be a while before that happens.

What are the differences between the F500 and the H815? Here in Australia, the F500 is approximately $100 more expensive than the H815 on eBay. Of course, it hasn't been released yet and I believe that, when it is released, it will cost around $900. ( -_-)
In Australia, if you're with Telstra and want the new 4GX network, you need the 815 or 815T. You need one that has 700MHz(B28) band, and it seems both of them do have this. If you're with Optus, the 815 is missing an LTE band and you'd be best going for the 815T.

I'm with the crappiest company; Vodafone. I didn't even know there were so many models of the G4. Thanks for that!
I don't use 4G/LTE. There's dodgy coverage in Perth and its suburbs (even just general 2G/3G) and I'm usually in reach of wifi.
I hope someone can make a list of all the models to make it easier to find the international model versus carrier models.

I'm in the USA, on Verizon. I got a note FE the other day (SM-N935L) and went to put in the sim card but it keeps telling me the mobile networks are currently blocked and to contact customer service but I can't do that because I can't currently make calls or have data. Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info to possibly help, just let me know.

Probably not,AT&T & T-Mobile are your best bets for using international phones on their networks & associated MVNOs.
Not trying to sound like a jerk, but,Google is your friend on the subject.
Here's a fairly recent write up giving a Readers Digest summary:

Yeah as stated above google helps you out tons when you are in the market for a new device. I never looked for international devices or non-carrier branded phones while I was with Verizon and Sprint they are CDMA and most unlocked devices are GSM. For me I just knew for most functions to work on my phone they had to have the sprint or verizon logo on them some where.
I have not looked back since I left both of the above companies because I feel I have so many more options now. There are others who have made the same mistake and I have seen their listings on ebay. There are lots of people looking for this device so at least you can get your money back by selling it if you need to. (swappa is a good option for selling as well)
Thank you for all the info! I thought it was CDMA compatible but I guess I was wrong.. :/ I need to check more before buying! Live and learn I guess... I'll probably end up reselling it.
Thank you for all the help!

My point is that Att knows that I have an Essential phone ( we installed the sims in the store) and in fact I have 2 of them on my account and they both use LTE. I have seen the H show up when traveling down I70 in Eastern Kansas but is almost always says LTE. Maybe I am misunderstanding the issue here. Here are my APN settings.
Edit: I also am set to Global under prefered network types. Where I live the Speed seems much faster than set on 4G/LTE from my speed tests 45Mb vs 20Mb not sure if that is scientific or not.

Yes while you could use the device on AT&T as many of have it was not a recognized device by at&t. If you gave them your IMEI they wouldn't recognize the device as an official AT&T compatible device. Why some people like yourself don't get the full AT&T experience like LTE. That won't be an issue now. The essential PH-1 is an officially recognized device by AT&T.
So do I need a new sim now? I've been messing around with settings and still can't get 4G.
Apparently mint mobile is dropping band 2 support which will degrade my already crappy reception further. I also don't get volte with them either despite the phone being capable of this. Any alternatives, or is this just a paperweight after the shutdown?
edit: I think I have the xt1962-5 model since I have dual sim. https://www.phonemore.com/models/motorola/moto-g7/
If you can switch to AT&T that might solve the problem depending on your specific model.

If you have an AT&T phone you can 611 and ask for advanced tech support.
There may be a work around like flashing different firmware but that's as much as I know.
3G is KIA... 4G LTE/VoLTE should be good till at least the end of this decade.

Thanks. This is the most tech savvy place for the moto g7 so hopefully someone here knows. I don't have a lot of spare time to experiment with different firmwares, but I currently have lineageOS 18.1 for anyone wondering if that's a solution (it's not). One could only hope these carriers get sued for rolling out proprietary volte provisioning like this. Totally uncalled for, and shame on motorola for not being upfront about this before I bought the phone.

It's a matter of limited resources. AT&T supports most of their variants and certain unlocked ones.
It caught me off guard too, but I lucked out.
It wasn't until both my phones worked that I was sure it would work. The transition was seamless.
