Hey all,
I really don't know what to do about my cell phone situation. Up until last week, I had an unlocked iPhone. When I heard 3G was coming to my area, I gave it to my little sister for her college graduation with the intention of getting the Mytouch when it came out. When I realized it would be the end of July for the Mytouch, I decided to go and get a G1 to try out for 14 days android and see if I really liked the OS.
Here's the problem. I love this G1. It's almost perfect. I had no idea how much I missed a hardware keyboard. I'm running a custom ROM and even have some of the HTC stuff going. It's ridiculous how far ahead Android actually is of everything else, and I was on an iPhone just last week. However after all the praise I can give it I have three significant concerns. The two are the usual, battery life and lack of 3.5" headphone jack. The third problem is how close T-Mo must be revising this phone, or at least will be to releasing another android phone with a hardware keyboard. Could that happen this summer? I think the only way I'd get a phone without the keyboard is to go with the i7500 or that HTC Hero. I text a lot, so I think I want the keyboard.
So, what would you do? I don't want to wait very long because you can easily get stuck always waiting for the right thing. But I also don't want to get a phone and next week hear that a new one is coming out very soon. So what do you pros think? Am I in a wait and buy area where rumors are swirling about the next phone, or should I just keep this G1? Would you?
Thanks for hearing my ridiculously long and thought out post, and maybe I'm thinking on this too much, but I use my cell all the time, it's actually a big deal for me.
Here's what I'd do, don't get stuck with a phone you don't love for 2 years. Yeah you could always buy one outright and pay $500 to get the newest and greatest but don't settle (at least too much). Samsung and Motorola have one coming out soon with a physical keyboard. When I say soon, by end of year probably.
I guess I could hold onto this one for the rest of the week and take it back. Maybe by then I will have heard something else about a new release. That Samsung one was supposed to be "very soon" but none of the leaked roadmaps look promising.
HTC needs to revise this G1, its got so much missed potential.

The G1 was the absolute 1st of not just a new generation.. But a PDA revolution.. With all its shortcomings it is still currently the BEST pda available in the US..

No argument here. Its a great device. The fact that my cellphone went off to tell me that someone replied to my thread and let me type out a reply very quickly on it speaks volumes to how it helps us organize and maintain digital lives.
Thing is, its painfully close to perfect. 3g expandable memory and an Android os integrated to google is awesome. It just falls short in style and entertainment (3.5 jack). It is the best option right now, but will it be the best option in a month or so? That's the 64,000 dollar question.
The 3.5 mm headjack isn't that big of a problem... just buy an adapter. 10$ at the T-Mobile store for an OEM one with built in mic, or on eBay they are sometimes less than a dollar.
3.5 headphone jack is ancient technology. This device supports bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP. Get with the times!
Hah. I didn't want to start a debate about 3.5 millimeter jacks. Doesn't matter what the opinions are anymore because as evidenced by the Hero, all HTC devices will have the jack in them. And its for the best I think. There are situations where you want to charge your phone and listen to music.
Its not about the jack though, its about the next qwerty android phone now, and I'm starting to think that will be a while.
How did the OP not get that miniusb to 3.5" cable? I received one with my G1 back in November-did T-Mo stop sending these?
Got it
I have it, it's just not very practical. I had the same problem with adapters on my old blackberry pearl. Back then we had a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. Very annoying actually and it turned me off to adapters as a whole. But even then you could hook it up to a power outlet and keep listening, and with the battery life issues on the G1, that is a very real need.
I hate to keep harping on that point, because I really love the G1 and it's not a deal breaker at all. Especially since it's clear HTC has conceded the point for their future phones. I really do like this phone and android a lot, I can't explain it other than if feels very solid, much more so than my old iPhone. I'm just looking at the outlook here and wondering if the better options are incoming.

Plus 1 on this one. Its all about Stereo BT.
But for me the G1 is perfect as far as the learning curve for the Android OS better than the lack luster of the iphone. I say its not for us to decide because in 14 days your going to return it what phone will you get before the myTouch comes out?
Anybody think Verizon will be kind enough to include a pair of Sammy headphones with our Note 3's? Unlike the empty spot in our Note 2 boxes, I would appreciate a new pair with the in line mic, like the other carriers get.
I know a lot of people have aftermarket ear buds etc. But personally I've been using the pair I got 2 years ago with the Galaxy Nexus. Honestly they've performed as well as any aftermarket headphones I've owned for listening to music. And they're especially convenient while driving (no blue tooth in my truck).
Anyway I was more than disappointed they weren't included with the Note 2. Looks like Sprint got them but ATT didn't. Anybody expecting them to be included? Or know yes or no if we'll get them?

According to the Q&A section on the Verizon page for the Note 3, it will:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...-note-3-white?checkedId=oneOrTwoYearPrice7193
Click Q&A, search for "headphones" and you'll see a question about it. A Samsung rep replied saying:
Hi Joey. Thanks so much for reaching out. Yes, headphones will be included upon purchase of the Note 3.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We're here and happy to help.

Here's hoping you're right. Kinda feel like we get ripped off when other carriers and other phones have them. Then VzW finds another way to shaft us, so they have a better chance at making a sale on beats...my opinion anyway.

If Verizon does remove them what do they do with all the headphones?! I watched the unboxing for a gnote 3 and it had headphones, but that was t mobile.

I'm a professional musician and audio engineer. I didn't buy them to use as normal headphones. I bought them to use for performing. Side benefit of them is that they destroy any consumer grade headphones on the market.

I'm not an audio engineer or anything.
My friends brother owns Aurisonics and he got me a pair of the ASG-1s which sound awesome i usually rotate between those and Bose QC15s when i travel.
The headphones that come with phones and ipods sucks and sounds crappy once you hear a good set.
Any pair of customs with 2+ drivers will blow your mind. They offer full isolation because of the custom fit. I regularly use mine as earplugs when I go shooting, to loud events, or when I simply don't want to listen to someone. (the cord is detachable). Another musician friend has a pair of 1964ears triple driver model. They're a lot more affordable and he says they sound fantastic. Nothing on the market offers the clarity and dynamic range of my 18s due to the 6 drivers per ear, but the price is drastically higher. If you have a few hundred dollars to blow sometime and music is important to you, iI recommend trying out a triple driver custom. You won't be disappointed.

If you have a set of custom IEMs with a removable cable, UE makes a cable with an online microphone and volume control for iPhone. To use on anything non android, simply swap the left and right cables.
*edit* anyone with multi-driver headphones, check the impedance of the drivers together before using them with a headphone device at full gain. Most of them are wired to drop the impedance giving more wattage out of the amp. For anything with 2 or less drivers per channel, that won't be an issue, but anything 3+ drivers, it can easily burn the amp chip out on a phone. With mine, half volume is usually so loud that it causes tinnitus, so it's not an issue for me. (with great in-ear monitors comes great responsibility.) take care of your hearing, because once it's gone, you will not ever get it back.

amen to that. I have a pair of Sure ear buds and everyone thinks I was crazy for spending $300 on headphones...when you put them in and they tune out everything else, even with no music on, they are worth every dollar. I wear mine to shoot as well. Plus sound quality is way better. Glad to see someone else be jammin too. :good:
Oh recently i have been doing a lot of travel for work..I have a huge pet peeve listing to people talk about their daily bs on an airplane, being able to not hear any people is a HUGE benefit.
Shure E2/E3s aren't custom, however. There's still a monstrous difference between pro-grade universals and customs, but the shure E2s/E3s are a good example of pro-grade multi-driver IEMs.

This is true they are not custom fit but they do a great job of noise cancellation at a fraction of the ones you posted. I just don't like big bulky headphones. Shures are not top of the line but they sure do beat the $1 headphones I see all the ifone idiots walking around wearing thinking they sound great because apple makes em. I have the bose noise canceling one but find myself only wearing around the house size they are PITA to take with you
Hi there guys,
as in title allready asked "From wich Phone you will jump to OnePlus One and why ?"
I will sell my Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE+ I9506 with Snapdragon 800 cause there is no Development an no CM10/11 support for it!
As the nature of a technique freak is that mostly tune/modify and want it adjust more personal likes and featurs...
In my opinion a phone who dont got CM support is a dead phone cause mostly if there is no CM support there is also no development for this phone! Thats my experiance in last 4 years!
..... well on Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE+ I9506 i had nothing of this ... + Samsung pushed their phones with NSA stuff like KNOX... that was the headshot overall!!!
So i will never buy a Samsung phone that is KNOXED... !!! Bye Bye Samsung!! It was a good time the last 4 years but with KNOX no more!!!
And the 5,5" Display and the Frame of OnePlus One is okay for me cause i also had a Note 2 before the S4 so i know the advantages and disadvantages of such "big" phones
It like you look through a big window instead of a small keyhole.... well thats my sense of taste for such of sizes
At least it was short journey at the s4 phone and i gained to 2 new great xda friends there who is and was willing to do something there Absolon and DeHAWK.
Ill hope Absolon and DeHAWK jump on OnePlus One too!!

Wow, All of you sacrificing flagship devices... I'm coming from a midrange device, the HTC Desire X. There is not much developement there and just now it is beginning to get CM10 support which is still buggy, so I'm looking forward to get a phone with good specs, recent software and hopefully good developement. Also I'm looking forward to contribute to and support this forum as soon as I can get my hands on this phone!

I'm coming from a HTC One, don't get me wrong it's an incredible device but if I manage to sell it for ~£200 I'll definitely buy the ONE. I'm hoping for more battery life however if I do I'll miss the incredible speakers... (Stereo Downfacing?!)
Edit: I can buy it in HK where the price for the ONE will be around £200

The problem is the speakers are placed on the bottom of the phone. Also the only advantage I can see from them being stereo is being louder due to constructive interference as I can't see much of a 'stereo effect' coming from speakers with that little separation...

That would be awesome thanks, I'm not expecting them to be as good but I hope they are better than the speakers on something like the S5.
id have to say id be coming from a Galaxy S4. i miss CM and im srsly debating on whether to get a N5 or not or just wait for the oneplus. although their contest sounds interesting to smash a phone...might be a fun time to head out to the WMA.
Coming from the Nexus 5. Crazy good specs for a cheaper price. 64gb is only 350 heck yeah. OPPO quality is awesome too

coming from a galaxy s2, never give up my s2 because with cyanogen it still looks like a new phone and all the features like monitor mode and things i put in it.. but the oneplus one it's just "wow" that spec for that price and already with cyanogen..
i'm gonna buy one for me and also one for my mother
Just bought a HTC One M8, but I have a fully working S4 lying around, so I'll either smash it if I get picked for the contest, or just sell it and buy the OnePlus One. So then I can say I have 2 1s. One+one. Wut.
I just got a brand new Galaxy S5 two weeks ago and if I was given a ticket to purchase a One+ today, I would do it in a heartbeat and sell the Galaxy 5.
The Galaxy 5 is a great phone but all the Samsung "chrome" is driving me insane.. and I don't want to root it because of Knox.
Note 3 att If I got picked I'd smash this Knox loving locked bootloader non development having paper weight in a second...and if not I'll sell it and buy one asap

You get used to a lower quality sound. I sold my HTC One 2 weeks ago to get a G2 and even though the G2 is louder the quality it's not nearly as good as the HTC one delivered. But as I said, you just get used to what you are currently using, don't let that stop your buying impulse .
I'm also thinking of selling my G2 and buying one even though I'm clearly not get it as cheap as others since I have to import it wheter from US or China so I'll be paying around 400-500USD wich I'm currently used to pay for my flagship phones here where I live ( that's considering that I import them not buying them from the mobile companies here wich totally ripe u off with prices as crazy as 1000USD )
From a Samsung Exhibit II. Yea, I'm quite due for an update!
Gonna jump from my HTC One (M7) it have served me well, but my body is now ready for a bigger screen, the OPO seems like a perfect fit, as I also love it coming with CM11S as the default rom.
I owned the phone for just over 2 weeks.
First of all, I like android because it's not IOS. I don't like Apple. The whole Apple company annoys me.
I used to get annoyed when I heard Apple where suing Samsung for copying there patents, so on and so forth.
I couldn't help but notice straight away how much the S6 looked like IPhone 6, especially at the bottom of the phone (speaker grille).
Then I started looking at what Samsung have done, they took away what made them stand out.
They took away removable battery, and give us a very average size battery, but push wireless charges.
Worst of all they took away micro SD card!!!! Wtf
Then Samsung ask for a ridiculous price for different versions 32gb.....64gb.....128gb....... That's what apple does.
I used to be able to pick up 64gb micro SD card on sale for about $30. That option has gone.
The battery life on the S6 is poor. Let's be honest, everything I read tells me to turn off all sorts of features to make the battery last longer. It's a smart phone. I might as well buy a Motorola RAZR flip phone.
I'm just so disappointed Samsung have taken a huge step backwards and become who they used to fight. (IOS).
The fast Charging feature is cool, only if you want to carry your wall adapter and cable round with you all day, just incase!!!! The branded Samsung wireless charger should have come with the phone, not a $59.99 extra fee.
The only thing I will miss is the camera. It was excellent. But that's it.
Touchwiz was still sluggish, I experienced redraws more than I should have, and I still found it bloated with battery hogging apps.
I'm sick of Samsung. This is just my opinion remember.

You just perfectly outlined all the exact reasons I almost didn't get the S6 to begin with. Every year I can't wait to see the next Galaxy S, and this year Samsung made an iPhone running Android. Even though I hate Apple, my iPad is a huge part of my work and personal use, so I decided that the S6 had failed enough that it was time to just switch to iPhone 6+ and join the sheep.
BUT... I didn't. And the only reason I didn't was because it was time for me to upgrade now and I didn't want to get the iPhone 6 with the new one coming in Sept., leaving me with an old phone for two years. (I don't know where you are, but remember that in the US most of us are on 2 year phone plans.) So I just got the S6.
And I'm loving it. And I know I'd love the iPhone less. But I hate supporting Samsung making bad decisions.
Sorry but this is such a useless thread. Everyone of your reasons were very well know before launch. Yet you bought it anyway. Non of that was at all a suprise. Sorry your unsatisfied but you knew what you were buying.

In my opinion they finally did something right for the first time in the last two years. People were always complaining about the build quality of Samsung phones. They finally build IMO a very nice phone, yes they did copy the looks of the iPhone a bit, but it looks great. One thing that did always bug me was the speaker being on the back of the phone. Now its on the bottom producing better sound when watching videos or listening to music.

None of the people I know that bought Galaxies had a problem with the build - it's always just been the iTurds that say how "bad" and "cheap" Samsungs are compared to their precious. I never had a problem or concern with the plastic body.
As for the new speaker placement, it's horrible. I'm constantly accidentally covering it just from natural hand placement when watching videos horizontally.

Countless reviews on YouTube where saying how debloated it is, how it's the best touch wiz ever!! Maybe the obligated to say that??!
However it still felt like touch wiz to me, lag, redraws.....
In Canada 32gb model costs $750. The 64gb model costs $860!!! That's what annoys me, I can buy a 32gb micro SD card for a third of that 110$ jump.
Samsung have copied everything Apple has done, and it's pathetic.

In Canada 32gb model costs $750. The 64gb model costs $860!!! That's what annoys me, I can buy a 32gb micro SD card for a third of that 110$ jump.
Samsung have copied everything Apple has done, and it's pathetic.

Right...because apple has 2k screens, ir blasters, a payment system with MST support, multiwindow, etc. Please, Samsung is way out in front and Apple is trying to play catchup. Wish a mod would come and rid of this useless thread.

Sorry but this is such a useless thread. Everyone of your reasons were very well know before launch. Yet you bought it anyway. Non of that was at all a suprise. Sorry your unsatisfied but you knew what you were buying.

Exactly what i was thinking. He knew the S6 didn't have a removable battery yet he bought it. He knew the S6 didn't have a micro sd slot yet he bought it. He knew the price of the S6 yet he bought then turns around and complain.

This, +1.
Gee... if only there were a way to ignore threads you don't want to read...
It must be so oppressive to have someone expressing their opinion.

Hardware wise yes it's way out in front but software wise Android as a whole still hasn't caught up to iOS whether you like it or not. Not everyone needs widgets and endless customization's on their phone, some of us simply want a phone that works out of the box without needing to root or having to wait months for an update to address the memory leak issues.

I started this thread because, I thought it might help people who are on the fence whether to buy it or not, I took the plunge and bought it then realized I made the mistake so I expressed my OPINION.
Also if this is such a useless thread don't read it....and better yet don't reply to it. (I'm the idiot)
Samsung has took a serious step away from its loyal customers by asking for more money for there devices and removing everything that made them special. You basically have an iPhone 6 running a bloated and ugly version of Android.
Once again my opinion, if you don't like it move on. Don't feel the need to be a keyboard tough guy and start calling names.
Childish.
I dont understand why they picked up S6 and then create a thread of their dislikes.
S6 features, pro and cons has been layed out prior opening sales and yet they still picked it up.

This is in hand experience, not prior sales.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.
What does eveyone think of One Plus ditching the headphone jack. Is it inevitable? Is it something that will discourage you from buying the phone?
What does eveyone think?
While it makes me sad and will inconvenience me... It won't discourage me from getting the phone. I feel like given how the industry tends to copy each other, it was inevitable.. but it still stinks..
Well...the last I saw was that there might be a usb C to 3.5mm dongle in the box.
Of course you could probably also buy a charger and audio/mic dongle to be able to charge while doing phone calls.
It stands between the iphone XR or the oneplus 6 ...........less likely that it will be this one if the headphone jack is gone.
The iphone comes not until late October so its likely that we'll wait and see what the Oneplus 6t has to offer too before deciding.
Already a thread on this.

There is absolutely zero excuse not to included headphone jack 3.5
There is absolutely zero tolerance to any phone maker about it.
I would have to look for another phone in this case.
It absolute deal breaker for me.
We already have trash Google, now we are going to have trash oneplus.
Retarded oneplus seo, you will get bankruptcy.
Don't have one on my current device. Don't miss it.
I've been wireless for years now. Don't mind the absence of it.
Haven't had one on my last few devices and now comfortable with out it...
DUPLICATE THREAD CLOSED
