Hi all
Now, i know this might seem like an odd request at first! "The N7 relies on wifi to get internet, so why would you want to tether it??" etc.
I use Power Controls and it has a toggle for wifi tether. when turned on, the n7 does indeed turn into a wifi hub. I can see it on my phone. As it stands however, i cant change any of the settings. Using Apex launcher i can make a shortcut in to the thethering and wifi hotspot in settings however all i get is a blank window
N7 can be turned into a mobile wifi hotspot for doing things like file transfers/sharing stuff that you cant do via bluetooth.
Eg, sending an app to a friends n7 via datasync (as an example!)
Anyone know if its possible to change the settings for wifi hotspot anywhere else?
Is there a quick way to start the Portable Hotspot (tethering) from the Notification Panel?, I've seen this on other Samsung phones, probably with Custom ROMs, thanks
I am trying to use foxfi on my g2 on pacman ROM and when I enable WiFi hotspot, I get a system notification that mobile hotspot is enabled. In the settings menu of pacman under data, I see that mobile hotspot is enabled. Does that mean I will be charged for the data that I tether?
The point of foxfi is to get around Verizons expensive plans but I am not sure if my device will report data usage to Verizon since mobile hotspot under settings must be enabled for it to work.
Thanks in advance.

Gurus,
I used "extended controls" app since non-rooted Galaxy S2. Note 2 and now Note 3 on t-mobile network to toggle Wifi hotspot on and off without any issue. I just upgrade to 4.4.2 and I can no longer toggle this feature along with GPS, bluetooth, and Airplane mode. I try to download a different app" power toggles" and still no luck. Nothing happens when I toggles either using EC or PT app. After resetting my phone to factory default I now have an icon "mobile hotspot"; however, when clicking on it, it leads to the wifi hotspot page where I have to turn on this feature. I google but haven't been able to find a working solution yet. Is there any app out there to make these features work in one click? I have unlimited 5GB plan with paid tethering option by the way.
Any help to resolve this issue is greatly appreciate.
i finally rooted my moto X pure. hotspot does not work on its own and i dont know how to edit the settings for it. So i tried looking for apps but some of them that i once had does not work.
Barnacle doesnt work
Wifi tether router gives a giant mcafee warning stating its a threat with Android/Bokbe.A!Gen or Malware for basic
FoxFi i have to pay 8 dollars for it when i didnt need to before
clockworkmod works but its usb tether
any other options?
Is your carrier restricting you from using your data plan to host a WiFi hotspot? Mine works just fine with no additional apps required. When I first turned it on, it made sure my data plan supported the feature then worked as expected.

Verizon?
Usually tethering is only blocked if you have an unlimited data plan

When you turn on the stock app, is there an error message or anything? The stock tether app usually works well.

should be able to just add this line
Code:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
to /System/build.prop
with a file manager and a text editor
Edit: removed strike code

yeah i tried that, doesnt work. thanks.
ill either unroot entirely or switch to another OS
use clockworkmod on a pc and make that pc a gateway for a wireless router (set pc ip address manually to something static) configure the router properly, then just connect all your other devices to that wireless router
UPDATE:
Wifi tether creator replied to my email saying mcafee has a false positive on it because its root, mcafee never tested it.
but what i did discover is this. when i played with the wifi tether app, they have the ability to allow tether completely wifi. in it contained was a LTE patch to allow tethering and it worked. if anyone is able to get the patch out, then jackpot we have tether ability

Right, the above build.prop edit eliminates this phone home verification. I've tested it successfully also on a cricket unlimited plan.
