Is there a quick way to start the Portable Hotspot (tethering) from the Notification Panel?, I've seen this on other Samsung phones, probably with Custom ROMs, thanks

During my recent probe to find the best way to tether my phone having access to all the settings i came across this little apk for the android phones which replaces the built in system.
Your phone must be rooted to use this file, i know some networks like sprint lockdown the tether options, this gets around that issue.
I dont know if its been posted here before or not, but i hope some of you guys may find it useful and the page is very useful info.

Try it on my note running midnote ICS 3.2. Doesn't work, my note freeze and have to reboot.
whats wrong with the tethering and portable hotspot setting in the wireless and networks... it is simple to use and works great..no root needed.... its on the stock rom...
If third party tethering app, then i say 'wireless tether' is better
It supports thethring via blutooth too, As well having mac security option.

Both my daughter's Macbook Air and my wife's Dell laptop have successfully connected wirelessly to my Galaxy Note and downloaded stuff from the Net. With H+ speed it is as quick as my ADSL+ connection at home!
It is so easy to setup ... Settings > Wireless and Network > Tethering and Portable hotspot. Make sure you choose a good password!
Hi all
Now, i know this might seem like an odd request at first! "The N7 relies on wifi to get internet, so why would you want to tether it??" etc.
I use Power Controls and it has a toggle for wifi tether. when turned on, the n7 does indeed turn into a wifi hub. I can see it on my phone. As it stands however, i cant change any of the settings. Using Apex launcher i can make a shortcut in to the thethering and wifi hotspot in settings however all i get is a blank window
N7 can be turned into a mobile wifi hotspot for doing things like file transfers/sharing stuff that you cant do via bluetooth.
Eg, sending an app to a friends n7 via datasync (as an example!)
Anyone know if its possible to change the settings for wifi hotspot anywhere else?
To address the "why" question first: Because I want to tether internet to my car which only support native Bluetooth (I have tried apps). This will allow me to get real time traffic in the GPS among other things.
So I have a Canadian TN-910W8 5.0.1 , the WiFi/USB tethering option are working but the bluetooth tethering checkbox is missing from the menu.
Is there a way (setting/file/apk) to enable it?
My phone is rooted, I am open to go to stock based rom ( I use the stylus, fingerprint, health etc).
Thanks!
My device model is sm-g955u. But there's no hotspot option in the notification bar and in setting no hotspot and tethering option.
Is it possible anyhow it will be enable?
Coming from Sammy that has offered a "Wi-Fi" sharing" feature for years I am really missing it on my OnePlus.
This feature allows you to keep your WiFi AND HotSpot on at the same time. It allows you to connect you Samsung to the hotels WiFi and then connect other devices (such as Chromecast) to your WiFi sharing Samsung phone that is using the Hotels WiFi and not your mobile data.
Does anyone know of a way to get this working on the phone? I have looked on the playstore but only found ones that work for a PCs.
Thaanks

Hey so it ends up the OnePlus actually has that already. Go to developer options and go to networking and you'll see WiFi coverage extend feature.

. Did you get it to work? I enabled this feature but as soon as I turn on Hotspot it turns off my WiFi. If I turn WiFi back on, it kills hotspot. . Maybe I am missing something?
Same here. After enabling that extend option, turning on hotspot still kills wifi.
Just curious... If your phone is on WiFi.. Why would you need hotspot? Why not just put the 2nd device on the same WiFi your phone is on...

it's for traveling purposes it's not so easy to connect a Chromecast to a hotel Wi-Fi. It's very nice to have your phone be your access point for all of your devices like your computer your Chromecast Etc. and especially with the Chromecast since it really isn't possible to do the login page on a Chromecast. With Samsung's Wi-Fi share feature it works seamlessly the Chromecast connect to the Samsung hotspot while Samsung is connected to the hotel's Wi-Fi and I can control all of the Chromecast casting right from Samsung
