Just doing one final check on this... - LG Stylo 2 Plus Questions & Answers

Am I right that there exists no method to convert gsm to CDMA on the LG Stylo 2 Plus MS550.

Some method might exist but it will likely be price prohibitive for a regular LG Stylo 2 Plus owner. It would be simpler and cheaper to just buy a new CDMA phone.

[Q] Could you use an T-Mobile or U.S. Cellular Varient of the LG G2 on Verizon.

Hello, I've been searching for the answer everywhere and can't seem to find it. I have two options, my first option is to buy an LG G2 with an broken screen for $70 and repair it for my person use. The catch is its T-Mobile, could I unlock the phone and use it with Verizon? My second option is that my friend has an LG G2 from US Cellular and is willing to mail it to me, is it any way of unlocking it to Verizon?

Moto E 2nd GEN XT1528 BestBuy sale

Looks like Best Buy (usa) has the Moto E 2nd gen (Verizon) on sale again at only 44.95, Grab one before they run out of stock.
cdma/gsm modes w/ sim slot - great phones for the price and can use on other providers.. once they figure out how to unlock bootloader and get some custom roms this will be a little gem..
Walmart has the same sale. I just picked one up for my wife.
Fry's has it on sale for $35. I got Best Buy to price match + $25 reward certificate + gift card = zero $ out of pocket

Bought one today for $44.99. In the middle of their wireless area, there was a cardboard PDQ shipper with two pegs for the LG Transpyre and two pegs for the Moto E. The labels for the Moto E said $44.99, but it rang up $69.99 at the register. Told them about the label and I got for it for $44.99. Might want to act fast; the sale may be over already.
Unlocked versions are on sale at Amazon:

Anyone try using GSM on a NXT1026 ? (Virgin Mobile variant).
I can't seem to find specs on this model# (or my Google-fu is just weak today).
Walmart has this phone for $40 currently.
more than likely it lacks proper bands for us gsm support like the sprint prepaid/boost versions since they all use sprint's network. better get the verizon one when it goes on sale again if you need something cheap.
Will they unlock XT1528? or is it one of the models they refuse to unlock?

No, you can't unlock the bootloader on the XT1528 from Verizon or the XT1527 from Cricket or Gophone (AT&T). At least not officially.
My XT1527 was unlocked from the factory, I may have made the mistake of putting a GSM Cricket sim card in there and screwing over my unlock though.
But no it wasn't the Cricket XT1527 version.

Whats up with the new LG X8.3 - 815 model?

I picked up the new X8.3 GPad from Verizon during the Verizon G4 promo launch.
Is this a special unique Verizon model because I figured it would be launching on other carriers or something? It has been a month and there are only a few threads on this.
It just seems like it is a super nice tablet that is flying under the radar. It has a new SnapDragon 615 processor, nice screen, stylus, full sized USB, IR Blaster. It is just getting no love.
The VK810 was the only carrier model too, and only for Verizon just like the VK815. The other variants of the VK810 are WIFI only and aren't associated with any particular carrier. I have no idea if there'll be other variants of the X8.3 or not.
Support for the VK810 is just barely there, but with the help of several devs I'm happy we have at least the amount of support we do. Since the VK810 and 815 are carrier-specific, it's natural that as many people won't get this tablet because only those with Verizon will get it, whereas the WIFI only ones get bought by everyone else.

Perhaps a dumb question about carrier models and custom ROMs

A co-worker has a lightly used T-Mobile G6 I'm thinking about picking up. Obviously this phone is too new for custom ROMs to be out there yet, and from reading here it looks like there are no custom recoveries either; but when that all starts to happen, will separate custom ROMs have to be created for each carrier variant, or will any ROM run on any carrier variant?
Pardon me if this is a dumb question. I'm coming in from the Nexus 5, which didn't have carrier-specific models. Thanks.
From previous experience there's enough difference between carriers to requirements different ROMs.

Good questions, I think most of the time this is necessary, but with the S7 for example it wasn't. This is my first LG too so we'll have to wait and see.
I have seen a few instances where two models have been compatible with one another. An old example would be the HTC Inspire 4g with the HTC Desire HD; the former was the domestic US models and the other was foreign. In another case, models both have bootloader unlocked and root available so the community choose to create roms compatible with both revisions.
I found the H850 and H830 (the LG G5?) had cross compatible development in some instances... Also, you could use Nexus 4 roms on the LG Optimus G once you completed the conversion process. I had the Optimus G and loved this capability!
Will it happen again, who knows.... we can only hope! I'm no developer, but just a rom junkie ;-p
But to answer the question directly: from the phones I've owned & read on the forums, you usually have carrier dependent roms. Now it seems more common to have no support on certain models altogether. This is why I sold my Galaxy Note 3 and now the LG G6 from at&t to get an unlocked T-Mobile variant.

All the 2014 Moto Quarks run the same custom ROMs.
Droid Turbo XT1254,
U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250,
Moto Turbo XT1225 (India), and
"international" Moto Maxx XT1225 (LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17).
All the way from Lollipop, Marshmallow, and now Nougat.
[ROMs][Quarks][List for Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo and Droid Turbo]
The phones are split between two different XDA forums, but the same ROMs are used by all the phones. The original CM dev @Skrilax_CZ made sure the kernel was cross-compatible, and it's stayed the way ever since.
The Quark was released at the same time as the Moto Nexus 6, and was basically 5.2" version of that phone -- but had a 3900 mAh battery! The Droid Turbo was the best known of the series, but I owned three of the Moto XT1225 as it has all the AT&T LTE bands. For some reason, Motorola changed the model names depending on country/carrier, but they all had the same hardware. The Droid Turbo was actually a CLONE of the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, with the same FCC ID and radio bands (LTE/CDMA). The XT1250 would run on Verizon with a Verizon SIM card because it was the EXACT same device. You could cross flash Verizon Motorola stock firmware onto an XT1250 to convert it into a "Droid Turbo" if you wished.
The XT1225 models had different FCC ID and radio, but still all the custom ROMs were compatible with ALL the Quarks, thanks to @Skrilax_CZ talent and foresight. And remains so to this day, even with a bunch of other devs now maintaining a variety of ROMs.
It seems the T-Mobile variant has a locked bootloader (which is not un-lockable). I'm guessing that will probably limit the amount of development for this variation of the G6. The only US model that is un-lockable is the US997 (not the US997 from US Cellular).

Yeah, I wound up buying unlockable US997s from B&H, passing up T-Mo's $500 buy-one-get-one offer with real regret.

Didn't realize the OP was that old. Whoops. Still probably good info to have on the thread.
Got mine from B&H too.

UPgrade possibilities

I presently run an LG G Pro and due to requirements of a new app I require at least android 5 or 6, I am presently on att and need to have root access and battery removeability. Which version of the Note 4 should I be looking to purchase? Has to be gsm capable, removable battery and be able to be rooted. I was looking at the lg g5 and v20 but cannot find a gsm capable version that can be rooted.
